WebLogic Plug-In Enabled
We use a product called Workbrain that has a Cisco Swithc with a virtual IP address for our application. The switch automatically load-balances its http sessions between 2 Apache Web Servers as a proxy that make queries against an Oracle backend. We currently have 4 servers in a BEA cluster. As far as I can tell the Apache Web servers are using the BEA Apache plugin. However, our BEA cluster does NOT have the "WebLogic Plug-In Enabled" option selected on the cluster. I am curious as to what the impact of not selecting could cause.
I ask because I have had some end users report that if they make a connection directly to an individual server instance that their response time is 3 to 4 times faster than if they use the virtual IP that load-balances between the 2 Apache servers.
Sure! Calling directly a server is more fast then pass through a load balancer and through a webserver and through (again?) the weblogic plugin (even if it's only a lib!!!)...
Moreover you could have performance problem if you use hostname instead of IP address, cause for every client call a DNS query must be executed.
One more thing... The only one load balancer algorithm you must use is the round robin, I'm not speaking about weblogic load balancing algorithm... But about hardware load balancer above the webserver.

WLS 9.1 bug with WebLogic Plug-In Enabled?
We are currently upgrading from WLS 8.1 to WLS 9.1. We use Apache HTTP Server 2.0 on Red Hat Enterprise 4 with the weblogic plugin. We have the plugin configured properly as the application functions properly except for calls to request.getRemoteAddr(). We have WebLogic Plug-In Enabled enabled at the cluster and server level. We verified MBeans reported true using the weblogic scripting tool in interactive mode. We see the WL-Client-Proxy-IP header in the request as expected. We've searched the newsgroups and BEA site and they mention setting the WebLogic Plug-In Enabled option as the problem. It doesn't appear to be ours.
Is there a bug or are we missing something else? If it is a bug, is there a patch? We have a workaround in place which gets the WL-Client-Proxy-IP header directly, but obviously this isn't the optimal solution for something that was working properly in 8.1.
Thank you in advance,

How to set WebLogic Plug-In Enabled through admi in weblogic server 9.2
Hi,
how to set WebLogic Plug-In Enabled parameter for cluster through admin console in weblogic server 9.2 ???
Actually i could able to find the option for individual servers. However i could not able to find the same for cluster??
is it through only by WLST ???
can any one please advice??
regards,
Praveen Kumar JWell, I don't know what you call a "BEA Admin", but please note that everyone here is trying to help.
Some of them are not working for BEA but are deeply efficient.
Well, for your problem, I started a 9.2.2 domain, created a cluster and found the "WebLogic Plug-In Enabled" option ...
In your console, in the "Domain Structure" window, click myDomain \ Environment \ Clusters
Then in the main page, you've got "Settings for myCluster".
On the very first page, "Configuration > General" tab, you should have the folliowing attributes :
* Name
* Default Load-Algorithm
* Cluster Address
* Number of Servers In Cluster Address
Go at the bottom of the page and under the last link "Number of Servers In Cluster Address", you have a little "Advanced" link in blue. Click on it and it will expand another part of the page.
In that new part, you'll find new attributes and the one you're expecting.
This time, it should definitely help. -
Hi,
I have an iis server having weblogic plug-in on it. It handles requests coming from an ISA server and forwards them to weblogic server working behind.
In a new architecture, I am planning to disregard IIS and connect directly through ISA to weblogic.
But I am not sure if weblogic plug-in can work on ISA? Does it work in this way?Sorry, this is not currently supported.

Apache - Weblogic plug-in - Segmentation fault. Please Help me!
Hi all,
Im trying to set up Apache weblogic plug-in, and im having problems with
that.
Im running Solaris 9 with Apache/1.3.26 (Unix) and Weblogic 7 with sp2.
Here is what i did:
I copied mod_wl_ssl.so from
/bea/weblogic700/server/lib/solaris/mod_wl_ssl.so to /usr/apache/libexec
Added entries in httpd.conf as
LoadModule weblogic_module /usr/apache/libexec/mod_wl_ssl.so
AddModule mod_weblogic.c

WebLogicPort 7001
HungServerRecoverSecs 300
ConnectTimeoutSecs 5
</IfModule>
When i access the url with out specifying port 7001 it's not working.
I checked the /var/apache/logs/error_log file. Im getting the error as
child pid 805 exit signal Segmentation Fault (11)
Am i missing anything here?
Thank you
RajaYou may want to check the certifications for Solaris 9 and the Apache plug-in at
http://e-docs.bea.com/wls/certifications/certifications/sun_solaris9.html#40366.
It looks like you will have to upgrade to at least Apache 2.0.39. We had to do
this on Solaris 8 as well.

I believe this is going to require more debugging such as attachinga
debugger(gdb) to Apache and getting a backtrace.
I suggest opening up a support case.

That's

I tested the same on a Linux Machine (Redhat Linux 7.1 on IA). It

How can i make things work?

Looks like it should work.
Let's simplify your test:
<Location /test>
WebLogicHost 127.0.0.1
WebLogicPort 7001
Debug ALL
DebugConfigInfo ON
SetHandler weblogic-handler
</Location>
Try with just that.
Another thing is that I am unsure as to whether we have tested
with
Solaris
9. This is SPARC right? Also, can you outline the steps you took
when
building apache? Did you use GCC?

That means that your apache instance is compiled with -DEAPI
and
should
use
the mod_wl_ssl.so.
Can you please try to set Debug ALL and get the log in
/tmp/wlproxy.log
and
share that?

Are you using modssl or any apache with EAPI compiled in?
Otherwise, you should be using the mod_wl.so.
As well, please set Debug ALL to see if we can get more

Should be OK. I was running that combination for a while and can't recall any serious issues during install.
I am currently running 8.0.5.1 on a Mandrake 7.2 PC. The install was pretty straightforward :
- Install compatability RPMs (I used slightly higher versioned RPMs than listed in the Oracle documentation);
- Install 8.0.5.1 s/w;
- Apply Oracle patch;
- Create dbs;
- Configure listener;
- Create the startup/shutdown rc script and links.
That's about it for the installation.
I haven't put the database to much use yet, so there may be other issues ahead :)
Oh, one thing to note on that last point is that you should have a look at how the /etc/rc.d/rc file operates.
Under Mandrake 7.2 it will look for a file in /var/lock/subsystem that has the same name as the /etc/init.d script before running the stop script correctly.
This differs slightly from what I see in the *8.1.7* documentation, so might be due to a difference between mandrake and the other distributions.
FWIW here is my /etc/init.d/oracle file.
#!/bin/sh
# chkconfig: 345 99 10

But I do need to use clustering and in order to do that
I gotta have the weblogic.httpd.clustering.enable set to true among
all other cluster related properties. What would be the point of using session persistence without
actually running your servers in a cluster ?
Right ??

Problem with SSL weblogic plug in and Apache
We're using mod_wl_22.so with Apache, and after some problems with the mod failing on startup it is now working. We can access the weblogic SSL page fine directly on port 16101 with no warning, when we try via the proxy we get a failure of server Apache bride --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
No backend server available for connection: timed out after 10 seconds or idempotent set to OFF. And in the wl_proxy.log there is a message that I think relates to the trustedcertfile in our http.conf file. We have a root certificate in pem format as the trustedcertfile.

Thu Jan 27 21:52:16 2011 <258812961651354> request [irm_desktop] did NOT process successfully..................I see that it is six months ago that I first posted this. Nothing has changed. When I use affixa to create a message with an attachment from my gmail account in firefox, the message is created in drafts, but the gmail window is closed and I have to re-open it. Not critical, but annoying.
Now there is a plug-in on the affixa site that is supposed to be designed for Firefox, and which affixa support claims should take care of this. And I've downloaded it twice. When you download it and open it, it says that it will be installed when Firefox restarts, and gives you a button to restart Firefox. But after you click that button and firefox disappears and re-appears, the affixa plug-in is NOT in the plugin list.
Please, somebody, HELP. -
Weblogic 8.1 Enable Load Balancing with Node Manager
Hi All,
Please provide any guidelines on how to enable Load Balancing in Bea Weblogic 8.1
I have configured *1 Admin Server* with *4 Managed Servers* on a single machine each having different port.
I want to setup load balancing such that any 1 of 4 ports responds when a central URL is clicked by the user.
Any guidelines are welcome.Review the document How to Implement Load Balancing on SAP BusinessObjects Planning and Consolidation, version for SAP NetWeaver

Multiple Apache-Weblogic plug-in configurations for the same host
Hi BEA,
I have a situation where I have more than one weblogic server/cluster both using
the same Apache to proxy. Reading the Apache plug-in configuration I gather that
below should work. In Apache (httpd.conf):
<Location /path1>
SetHandler weblogic-handler
WeblogicHost app1
WeblogicPort 7001
</Location>
<Location /path2>
SetHandler weblogic-handler
WeblogicHost app2
WeblogicPort 7001
</Location>
In this case the later Location of the two works fine and the other seems like
it is just not there. (If the two are switched the other works fine...) The thing
is that, if possible, I would like to avoid splitting the two locations onto two
different VirtualHosts (which works).
Does anyone have any ideas on how to solve this and still avoid the use of multiple
VirtualHost-definitions?
Is it due to a limitation in Apache module architecture that the configuration
above does not work or is it a design choice in the plug-in?
//GG
Gunnar,
I would post this Apache proxy plug in question to the
weblogic.developer.interest.plug-in forum

How to monitor WebLogic Server when enable the Administration Port
It works fine when use Listenport 7001, but when enable the Administration Port(9002), it does not work.
Maybe I should do something to set the system environment property, but how?
help~
Sorry for my poor English~
Thanks~HI,
If the admin port is enabled then you have to use these parameters to run any scripts
-Dweblogic.security.SSL.ignoreHostnameVerification=true
-Dweblogic.security.TrustKeyStore=DemoTrust
-The you can use Admin URL: t3s://localhost:9002 with Admin Port and Secure Protocol.
Example:
java -Dweblogic.security.SSL.ignoreHostnameVerification=true -Dweblogic.security.TrustKeyStore=DemoTrust weblogic.WLST application_status.py
Initializing WebLogic Scripting Tool (WLST) ...
Welcome to WebLogic Server Administration Scripting Shell

Come, Join Us and Experience The Magic… -
For several weeks we have been working with Oracle support to find out why our Firefox browser hangs for 20-30 seconds when connecting to SSL content on 10.3.6 WebLogic only when JSSE is enabled. It occurs when first attempting to connect to an enterprise WebLogic deployment. When JSSE is disabled the problem does not occur but JSSE must be enabled on WebLogic for our configuration. The problem also does 'not' occur when JSSE is enabled when using IE (8). In 10.3.5 WebLogic, the issue does not occur with Firefox but 10.3.6 is our preferred version and this is a major issue for us.
For the Firefox version, we used version 18 and 17 with no difference. Thanks for your help.Hi,
I did remove the entry and restarted the managed server, but nodemanager added the option again.
Regarding startup.properties, it doesn't have any ssl configuration:

the Insert bar in hotmail reply is greyed out and the icons such "Attachments" are not clickable. I am using Firefox 3.6.13 and have Silverlight 4.0.51204.0 enabled. What can be the problem? Also, in some instances cookies that store my address and other information that I need to populate when filling in online purchase forms on - say - eBay, are not working and I have to fill them in every time.
in mozilla firefox go to Tools/addons/plug-ins and '''disable silverlight'''

Apache 1.3.12 And Apach-weblogic plug-in
Hi,
I am trying to use the Apache-weblogic server plug-in
with Apache1.3.12.
I don't seem to be getting anywhere.
Has someone tried it?
I followed the apache-bridge.html instruction but
still couldn't get it to work.
If someone has already tried it and it works
can they share relevant parts of their httpd.conf.
ThanksCan you send us the lines you have added in the httpd.conf file. Also
please
go through the instructions once again and see what have you missed. It
is just a configuration problem.

I would like to put an Apache Webserver on the public side of a firewall and then connect to a weblogic server on the other side of the firewall. The firewall has port 80 shut off. Is it possible to configure the plug-in so it goes through another port in the firewall? If so, which setting in what properties file?Thanks in advance for any and all assistance.

As I understand it, the plug in talks on the weblogic ports you define in
the configuration file, not on port 80. Port 80 is for your web server. I
use iPlanet. In the iPlanet obj.conf file is the line
Service fn="wl-proxy"
WebLogicCluster="rat.bigballot.com:7003,hamster.bigballot.com:7003"
CookieName="wl1"
which says to talk to Weblogic on port 7003. Therefore, port 80 isn't
involved at all as far as Weblogic is concerned.
