WebLogic Portal 4.0 Hangs on startup

I installed the Weblogic portal 4.0 product today (Nov 9 2001).
I activated the license file (.bea) as described in documentation.
I tried to start up the portal server.
I entered the password for the weblogic server, this was ok.
The config.xml was loaded ok.
Then I waited for 40 minutes, with no further progress other than the message:
<starting weblogic admin server "portalServer" for domain "portalDomain">
I have 128 Mb memory, with a paging memory total of 512 Mb.
I have a Pentium 3 833MHz Machine.
During the 40 minute wait, the machine seemed to be writing to disk the whole time.
Any ideas? Thanks.

Hi.
I suggest you try posting your question to the weblogic.integration.interest newsgroup
- perhaps someone there may be able to answer your question.
Thanks,
Michael

  • Weblogic portal is getting hanged after a regular interval

    Hi,
    We are using WLP 8.1 SP 5 on a HP Unix environment. Our Weblogic instance is getting hanged and we need to restart the same. This problem is happing once in a 3 weeks time. From console we cheked that avilable memory for JVM heap is quite low when this happens. Below are the some of the log messages we have found in the weblogic log:

    Hi,
    Please find below my findings about the memory leak.
    Many (around 40 where max connection is 50) connection were created without they getting closed in a very short span of time. This caused the connection pool to be filled as rest of the connections in the connection pool were doing something else. Below is the log message:
    ####<Jul 4, 2010 12:24:01 AM GMT> <Info> <Common> <domainname.xxxxxxxx.com> <EXL> <ExecuteThread: '4' for queue: 'default'> <<anonymous>> <BEA1-39390F6683087D485CB1> <BEA-000627> <Reached maximum capacity of pool "portalPool", making "0" new resource instances instead of "1".>

    This caused all the threads handling request to the application hanged.

    69 of 70 threads hanged and logged this error message
    Also, other Weblogic modules (EJBs etc.) were not able to release connections due to this connection leak problem.
    <Jul 4, 2010 12:31:13 AM GMT> <Info> <EJB> <domainname.xxxxxxxx.com> <EXL> <ExecuteThread: '15' for queue: 'default'> <<anonymous>> <BEA1-38C90F6683087D485CB1> <BEA-010051> <EJB Exception occurred during invocation from home: [email protected]106df27 threw exception: javax.ejb.TransactionRolledbackLocalException: EJB Exception: ; nested exception is: javax.ejb.TransactionRolledbackLocalException: EJB Exception: ; nested exception is: weblogic.transaction.internal.TimedOutException: Transaction timed out after 502 seconds

    These hanged threads and EJBs caused the memory leak in JVM heap.

    So, what might cause this JDBC error. Is the problem at Weblogic end or the database end? It seems that the connections are hanging due to this JDBC error which is causing the connection pool to be filled up. Subsequently threads are hanging which leads to memory leak.
    Please help as this issue is reoccuring again and again!!!

  • WebLogic 10.3.2.0 hanging at startup after "The server log file is opened."

    Hi,
    A WebLogic 10.3.2.0 server is hanging at startup. There are no error messages. The last command in the startup window is:
    "The server log file <log file dest> is opened. All server side log events will be written to this file."
    I think the next line should be:
    "Security initializing using security realm realm."
    Any ideas on what could be the issue? For instance what resources should be accessed at that point of time? There is sufficient space left on the (virtual machine) disk. The VM configured with 8GB memory. Could it be performance related still?

  • Weblogic Portal 9.2 Startup Error - Linux

    Hi all, Thanks in advance for help in resolving this critical situation.
    Installed is Weblogic Portal 9.2 on a Ubuntu [Debian] Linux workstation. When I create a portal environment using default Configuration Wizard settings, ./startWeblogic.sh executes and I am able to reach the cosole without problems.
    As soon as I try to customize the configuration using Oracle drivers and corresponding username/password, I see an alert that reads:
    <b>This domain is configured to use the SQL authenticator security provider. You must load database tables in the "Run Database Scripts" panel or load the tables manually after completing the wizard using the SQL file located at ~/bea920/user_projects/domains/pDomain/security/SQLAuthenticator.sql</b>
    I click 'OK'. And 'Done'.
    When I attempt to start Weblogic, it fails with the following stacktraces:

    Here is what i have tried:
    1. altered the username and password in boot.properties
    2. deleted boot.properties and manually entered the username and password at WLS startup [as seen in the stacktrace].
    3. created a default-settings portal environment that started weblogic, then used the console to chenge the settings to my customized values. Restarted the server and it failed with the same stacktraces.
    Please please help. Our team has exhausted its knowledge of trouble shooting this situation. This forum is my next to last result.
    Thanks again.

    I too was facing this problem initially but on windows machine. This problem occurs because p13nDataSource is not configured and its still pointing to the POINTBASE data base. Point it to Oracle database and then test the connection. Once the Connection Test is sucessful go to Run Database Script. Select the correct version of Oracle i.e. 8i, 9i or 10g. Then select on DataSource from in the top left corner. Only two DataSource needs to be configured. cgDataSource-nonXA and p13nDataSource.Select these Data Source one after another and Run the scripts once this is done u can configure the WLI Domain.
    This is done once configuring the WLI Domain.
    I would post the corrective measure for the Domain which has been already created. If the issue is blocking u can create a new domain:-)

    I just read this thread: Re: Problem starting maneged server FAILED_NOT_RESTARTABLE , but I didn't find any solution to my problem. I really hope that someone can help me, because right now I'm really desperate and hopeless.
    This is my first Oracle Weblogic Portal/Server 10.3 installation.
    I haven't seen this kinds of problems with Bea Weblogic Portal 8.1.6 and my remotestart configurations are very similar between the 8.1 and 10.3 installations.

  • WebLogic Portal 10.3.2 EmbededLDAP Export Failed

    New domain created in WebLogic Portal 10.3.2. 11g
    In the Admin Servers log file, I see this error:
    <Mar 1, 2010 7:06:23 PM CST> <Error> <EmbeddedLDAP> <BEA-000000> <Database Export Failed: null>
    I don't see this in other domains, just this newly created one.

    You may want to go to the domain (top of tree) in the admin console, then 'security', 'embedded LDAP' and play with the 2 options of "refresh replica at startup'" and "master first". I don't have enough info on what database is referring to or your configuration but these are areas you may want to look into.

  • Weblogic Portal Admin Console is not displayed after the ear deployment

    Hi
    There is a Weblogic portal application deployed in the Weblogic Server 9.2 mp3 . The application is fine , when opened with the browser, but the problem is the portal admnistrator console is not opened.
    The application is deployed in a clustered environment with an Admin server and one managed server. The domain is configured for Production Mode and running in an Solaris environment.
    I had another similar kind of domain where the application is running fine and the weblogic portal admin console is also fine.
    The following difference is observed in both the server logs. I see that there is some problem with the initialization of /WEB-INF/beehive-netui-config.xml. The log continues with the messages like "< Pushing body text '" etc.

    how did you create this domain? Is this dataSource defined - portalFrameworkPoolAlwaysXA? is it targetted to cluster? did you get errors on startup related to this dataSource?

  • How to add Friendly URLs in Weblogic Portal?

    Hi,
    We are developing a portal using Weblogic 10gR3. Right now the URL's that are getting formed are very long which includes the nfpb, nfls, pagelabel e.t.c. The requirement is to have a very user friendly url something like http://www.x.com/portal/<<pageLabel>>
    The Weblogic documentation mentions something about URL compression, however unable to apply it for dynamic URL's. We have URL's which are formed on the fly from the WLP Content Repository
    Is there some kind of servlet / filter provided within WLP. I read somewhere about an URLTransformationServlet. But there was no documentation on its usage. Can some one share a sample code snippet with me. That would be really really helpful, as we are having a slight time crunch here.
    Any kind of help on this will be deeply appreciated. Thanks
    Thanks and Regards,
    Lilly

    As mentioned earlier, changes to the portal url is not provided out of box, the documentation link that I provided mentions a possible way of achieving this by creating a start up servlet, this may or may-not work in all circumstances. If the suggestions provided so far has not helped you so far, I would recommend you engage oracle professional services team to get assistance.

    While try to incorporate the URL navigation changes at
    our development environment we are getting exception Unable to render /framework/skeletons/bharti_skeleton/singlelevelmenu.jsp .
    I have also checked feasibility for the URL navigation changes provided and will not work for left menu

    WLProxy configuration falls under the weblogic server product hence you will have to raise an SR with that product to get any suggestions.
    Before that I would suggest you play around with the parameter I have suggested and see how it is impacting the url and then if there is any specific area you are stuck on check with the WLS team.
    Like I mentioned earlier, I do not know if this will completely meet your business requirement, but something you can look into.

    URLCompression servlet is the only option that weblogic portal provides out of the box to compress the URL of WLP. I understand this does not suite your requirement.
    The other option I can think of that can possibly help you achieve this is to configure any weblogic proxy plugin that you might be making use of, see the document
    http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E15051_01/wls/docs103/plugins/plugin_params.html#wp1143055 look for PathTrim, PathPrepend

    Hi,
    Even thogh after implementing the below changes,still we are not able to get the result. " nfpb parameter is still existing in URL ".
    Implementing URL Compression :
    To configure a webapp to use url compression, follow these steps:
    1. Define the compression servlet in web.xml; for example
    <servlet>
    <servlet-name>UrlCompressionServlet</servlet-name>
    <servlet-class>com.bea.portlet.compression.UrlCompressionServlet
    </servlet-class>
    <init-param>
    <param-name>defaultPage</param-name>
    <param-value>/index.jsp</param-value>
    </init-param>
    <init-param>
    <param-name>errorPage</param-name>
    <param-value>/errors/error.jsp</param-value>
    </init-param>
    <load-on-startup>1</load-on-startup>
    </servlet>
    2. Map the compression pattern; for example:
    <servlet-mapping>
    <servlet-name>UrlCompressionServlet</servlet-name>
    <url-pattern>wlp.c</url-pattern>
    </servlet-mapping>
    3. Add the token {url:compression} to the templates for which you want to apply compression.
    Please suggest on this ASAP.

  • Weblogic Portal Server interrupted abruptly error

    hi,
    i have an issue with weblogic portal server 9.2,
    At times my workshops get hang and i have to kill the weblogic portal server instance,
    the next time i start the workshop and try to start the weblogic portal server it gives error either that there is exclusive lock on the ear project or it says like the server was interrupted abruptly, and the server does not start,
    How do i solve such kind of issue, my server is not starting and i need to resolve such kind of error urgently,
    thanks in advance

    Hi,
    If the error is about the exclusive lock on the ear project it means you have made a lock on the resources in weblogic server admin console.You need to realase the lock from the console.
    Also if some unexpected error comes?
    Just apply the weblogic 9.2 patch before starting the workshop.You can find the patch at C:\bea92\workshop92\workshop4WP location.Run the WLWPatchInitialize.cmd script.
    This might be helpful for you.
    Thanks

  • Public url for weblogic portal producer

    Hi All,
    Can any one provide public weblogic portal producer url.
    i need to this for traning purpose.

    It's really pretty easy and quick to install WLP and create a WLP wsrp producer webapp -- all WLP webapps are wsrp producers by default. Just do:
    1. download from http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/middleware/weblogic-portal/downloads/index.html and run that. You'll probably want to do a custom install and include the WLP samples (leave everything else the same). No other installers are needed -- WLP includes a built-in pointbase database for development (and training courses).
    2. Follow the instructions on http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E15919_01/wlp.1032/e14252/toc.htm to get a webapp and portlets up and running. Be sure to do the Run Scripts part of the domain creation in the config wizard. If you forget, you'll probably get some errors on startup of the server, and you'll just need to run the create_db script in the domain directory.
    3. Access that WSRP producer as http://<server>:7001/webappname/producer?WSDL in a consumer webapp.
    It normal only takes me less than 10 minutes to get a domain, webapp, and some portlets going. Generally, it takes me longer to actually download and run the installer than anything else.

  • Slow response and access of Weblogic Portal Workshop 8.1 sp3

    Hi All,
    Environement : Weblogic Portal 8.1 sp3
    Weblogic Portal Workshop 8.1 sp3
    Windows XP
    Problem:
    When the application initially opens up in Weblogic Portal Workshop , the scanning takes too much time.At that time CPU usage is almost 100% with only Weblogic Portal Workshop running. Our application has a webapplication module whose build also takes almost 20 mins. After a build , the workshop hangs with 'Out of memory' error.
    Size of our application is almost 200 MB (source code with library files). The application also uses almost 60 .JCS and .JCX files.
    Solutions we tried.
    1. The RAM memory was upgraded to 2GB with a processor speed of 3.3 GHz
    2. We have updated the workshop.cfg with the parameter of -XX:-UseThreadPriorities -Xmx768m
    Thanks a lot in advance

    We have had some of the same problems with our 8.1.3 portal. The performance is terrible in Workshop.
    Unfortunally i dont have that much more advice then that you could try to split your application into several projects to reduce the strain on Workshop and hopefully reduce the build time.

  • How we can reduce the star-up time of weblogic portal server

    weblogic portal server takes 8-10 minutes to start on portal server
    can anybody suggest any remedy by which I can cring down this startup time bye 3-4 minutes.
    Thanks
    Ashish

    The reason portal server takes so much time is because in the background its starting many services and waiting for them to start completely.
    The services are - Autonomy search engine, which has 4-5 compoments, if you are using pointbase then it will start pointbase DB.
    To reduce the startup time you can disable autonomy, similarly you can use oracle or some other DB.
    Server opens connections at startup according to whats defined in JDBC connection pool configuration, you can tune this too.

    I'm a newbie in weblogic portal, so much documents for me on Oracle's website, but I didn't know where 's startup? please help on this :)
    1. Weblogic Portal: I could connect to jdbc datasource (using ms sqlserver 2005) and created database successfully. But I didn't how to my application can get data (from database), e.g. using portlet to connect? I'm really need to help to get data from db, and display it, please help understand it.
    2. I had a existing struts1 project (spring + struts1 + hibernate + ms sqlserver), this project could connect and get data from database. And I implemented the following guide on oracle's website, but I faced with so much problem, please help me clearly on integration struts1 in weblogic portal, what's required? if can, please step by step.
    Thanks in advance,

    Java Message Service (JMS) is a standard API for accessing enterprise messaging systems.
    And WebLogic JMS is an enterprise-class messaging system that is tightly integrated into the WebLogic Server platform. It fully supports the JMS Specification.
    Please refer to the following links to get more information on this and how to configure the jms resources:

  • Wl server hangs at startup

    Hi:
    I'm using WLServer 8.1sp2. It's been working fine up until a couple of hours ago
    when it started to hang during startup. Not sure if it was caused by an improper
    shutdown, but I have rebooted.
    Basically, I'm not getting any info at all out of log files or the system.out.
    It gets to one point, freezes and nothing else happens. Is there some sort of
    verbose option I can set to perhaps get some debugging information. Basically
    the server output stops at the line shown below:
    [java] <Jan 16, 2004 3:54:52 PM MST> <Notice> <WebLogicServer> <BEA-000327> <Starting

    If nothing has changed on the server in terms of config.xml changes then it sounds
    to me like resources. Are running a single instance or many within your server/domain?
    When a JVM starts up, it has certain heap sizes and port resources to grope. Perhaps
    there is not enough memory for the heap?

    Thank You

    I am not sure how you got into this state, but to clear it up you can edit the boot.properties file to enter (clear text) the username and password for the server (entered when running the Configuration Wizard).
    The boot.properties file is located in your domain at:
    <domain root>/servers/AdminServer/security
    Just enter the username and password in the file:
    username=myUserName
    password=myPassword
    WebLogic Server will boot up using these values and immediately encrypt the username and password in the file.
    An alternate approach would be to delete boot.properties in which case WLS will prompt you for the id/pw each time it is started/stopped.
