WebLogic Server architecture
I'm new to WebLogic Server and its architecture and wondered if you can actually do away with the admin server and just have managed servers that have all the web apps installed directly on them. I know you can run an admin and managed server on the same box, but was not sure regading the non-existence of the admin server altogether.

I wanted to see if I could cut down on the number of licences being used, since I have an Admin Server which is basically not doing much most of the time. Its sitting on a 4 way machine and since we have licences on a per CPU basis it would seem to be a bit costly. The environment I'm using is IBM AIX.
I did think about putting the admin server on the same box as managed server.

i have configurated a LDAP server using iPlanet and

Weblogic Server upgrade along with Forms & Reports
Hi Gurus,
I would need some help on upgrading one our Weblogic server from 10.3.2 to 10.3.6. Also, we have forms & reports ( version: 11.1.1.2 ) configured on this server and we would have to upgrade this to version: 11.1.2.1
Can you please help me or point me to a good document to do this.
I am a DBA and my weblogic experience is very little.

First, very smart decision to move to 11gR2 Forms - performance is much better in 11gR2. Customers i've worked with, are very happy with it compared to 11gR1.
Now, if you want to upgrade from 11gR1 (11.1.1.2) to 11gR2 Forms (11.1.2.1), I would do a new install. Simply because, there is no simple/straight-forward Architecture upgrade path from 11gR1 to 11gR2 Forms. And the installation will also be a clean isntall. Don't worry about your forms/reports source code, you can just recompile no problem in 11gR2 Forms.
If you want to do a re-install heres some things to consider:
1.) Update and/or Install an Oracle certified JDK - you can verify the correct JDK in the certification matrix provided by oracle: http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/developer-tools/forms/oracle-forms-11gr2certmatrix-519680.xls
2.) Verify your OS is certified with Forms 11gR2
3.)Install WLS in a new middleware Home.
4.) At his point, you should install the Oracle Forms 11gR2 Binaries Home in your new 10.3.6 Middleware Home.
5.) Optional: If you want the same exact ports as 11gR1 Forms installation - you'll have to shutdown all the 11gR1 Forms/Reports processes- OPMN Processes, WLS_FORMS, WLS_REPORTS, AdminServer.
5.) Run the Forms 11gR2 Configuration Wizard to install and configure a new Forms 11gr2 domain.
6.) After the configuration wizard completes successfully:
- Migrate over your formsweb.cfg/env settings
- Migrate ORACLE_HOME customizations
- Definitely install/configure webutil components
- Migrate over any other additional customizations

http://localhost:12080 (http port number 12080) ideally it should take me to
the BEA home page, but it is throwing an error in the log file.

AswarthaI had similar problems with my install of Weblogic 6.1 sp4. I am installing PS
HRMS 8.8 sp1
and PeopleTools 8.44 Patch 2 (Patch 2 is required for install) Peoplesoft sent
me Weblogic 8.1
with my new Tools 8.44. This version and installation is light years ahead of
Weblogic 6.1. If
you are able to load the new version of Weblogic and Tuxedo, it is worth it.
If not, you may want to check to see if your JAR file was installed correctly.
(The new version
of WL doesn't make you unzip your JAR files for the install.)
In the command line for unzipping the JAR file, make sure you type the phrase
EXACTLY as
shown IT IS CASE SENSITIVE. I messed with this for two hours until I saw that
I wasn't putting
a capital letter in one of the words where I should have been.

we have an applicaiton using weblogic 5.1 and Oracle database 8.1.6. Is that possible
to upgrade databse version to Oracle 9i without weblogic upgrade? If yes, what
JDBC driver should be used? Oracle 9.2.0 thin JDBC driver or weblogic jDriver?

we have an applicaiton using weblogic 5.1 and Oracle database 8.1.6. Is that possible
to upgrade databse version to Oracle 9i without weblogic upgrade? If yes, what
JDBC driver should be used? Oracle 9.2.0 thin JDBC driver or weblogic jDriver?
Is there any known issue with the JDBC driver under that architecture?
Please help.Hi. Any weblogic server can be used with any JDBC driver. Just upgrade the
JDBC driver to the latest/best one for Oracle9i, and make sure it's the first
thing in the server's weblogic.classpath (not the java.classpath). I recommend the
thin driver. Because it's all java, it is much more reliable. There is no known
issue with standard JDBC with that or any other driver. Some non-standard Oracle
calls which arer available from Oracle's driver classes are available through
weblogic, and some are not.

It works well with INQMY server, but with BEA I'm getting a lot of problems creating

Here are the steps we (used for internal testing) had to perform to get
IN-Q-MY adapter for SAP to work with WebLogic:
The wli.adapter.inqmy.sapr3.spi package contains extensions to the
In-Q-My J2EE Connector Architecture classes to overcome some limitations
in the base implementation classes. To get around these issues, we had
to extend their R3ManagedConnectionFactory, R3ConnectionManager, and
R3ConnectionFactory classes.
* The javax.resource.spi.ManagedConnectionFactory implementation
does not over-ride the equals and hashCode methods correctly. This
causes problems with WLS 6.1.
* There is a bug in their javax.resource.spi.ConnectionManager
implementation for non-managed uses of the adapter. Consequently, their
adapter cannot be used in a non-managed scenario.
* The javax.resource.cci.ConnectionFactory class does not support
the getConnection() method that does not take any arguments (it throws a
null pointer exception).
I am attaching the classes discussed above.

Is it possible to install PeopleBooks 8.51 on a existing Weblogic server which he used in setting up PIA? If yes, is there any specific documentation available for doing it?

How to configure the BI Publisher for High Availability using Oracle Weblogic Server. I have gone thorugh the following document on OTN.

You have to have a shared drive for CI,SCS abd DB on the shared drive something like SAN.
You will have HACMP the IBM Cluster SW shall be configured and installed properly.
You may need support from the AIX engineer to configure it.
DB and CI installation will be done by Basis normally.
Yes ,there is arequirement to install and db and OS Filesystems on shared drive.

Problem with links in deployed ADF application to Weblogic Server 11g
Hi everyone !
I have a query here, firstly, I have created an ADF application using Jdeveloper 11g and have successfully deployed (EAR file) onto the weblogic server.
However, after testing out the application, the linking within the application does not seem to work. Whenever I click on a link or button, the page refreshes but the result is not displayed.
What could have cause the problem?

1. Deleting a domain will not hold any references. But make sure that under your user_projects/applications also remove the folder that matches with your domain. Basically under user_projects folder you will see 2 folders named applications and domains. When you create a domain say mySoaDomain, it will crate a folder with the same name under applications folder also with few files like em.ear. If you do this, then you can crate a new soa domain and use the same old name.
2. NOW comes the most important thing. If you create a new SOADomain, at one point, you had to give details for soainfra and mds schemas. If you give your current existing db details (that was used for your old deleted domain), then you may still have the issues. Because the soainfra db may still have the instances for your old process.
3. If you really want to have a full clean soa domain, here is what you do:
a) Run rcu and drop the existing schemas for soainfra and mds.
b) Run rcu again and create above schemas again.
c) Now create SOADomain using config wizard and refer above clean rcu db and you are all set.
3. Under your domain root folder, just searh for files named with your workflow and you should see the .jar location.
