Weblogic specific annotations and features

Hello everyone, I'm considering the use of the WebLogic Server on my environment so I started reading some of it's documentation. I've not seen a lot but something that I've noticed immediately was the heavy use of proprietary annotations like @Policy, @WLHttpTransport and classes like weblogic.xml.crypto.wss.WSSecurityContext. I've liked lots of Weblogic features I'm not interested in getting specific with any vendor. I've seen some other Application servers and although they don't have many of the features Weblogic does they let you program the application in an agnostic manner. Obviously all of them have specific files to cover configuration which is not part of the Java EE 5 specification (like keystores locations, data sources, etc) but they don't impose you to use specific classes or annotations in code.
So I would like to know, is it possible to develop productively without specific elements in the source code (for example, using deployment descriptors for configuration) ?

As David mentions, usually the WebLogic proprietary annotations and features are there to address functionality not available by using standards, in your example the JAX-WS annotations don't have a standard annotation similar to @WLHttpTransport to my knowledge. Some of the time what is happening is that the annotations are used when deployment descriptors could be used instead. If that is the case, you can always keep your EAR / WAR clean of proprietary deployment descriptors and use a deployment plan (JSR-88) to keep that external to your application. When talking about proprietary classes like weblogic.xml.crypto.wss.WSSecurityContext that becomes a little tougher and if you really want to keep your code clean of proprietary extensions, you might have to use dependency injection techniques or similar and have implementations for each vendor you need to deploy to.

Hello.
Something that really bothers me about using EJB3 in Weblogic is that, in our projects (running in Weblogic 10.0), we need to configure Weblogic-specific settings in weblogic-ejb-jar.xml anyway. Things like work managers, JNDI names and security (the latter doesn't work if we just declare it in a spec annotation, we need to also define it in weblogic-ejb-jar.xml).
It's hard to understand the point of migrating to EJB3 when you can just do half the things using annotations.
Does Weblogic have extensions to help on that? I never found anything related to this for Weblogic 10.0.

The link is interesting, thanks. There are only a few weblogic-specific annotations, but at least it's a start. Unfortunately, it seems to only be available in 10.3.
About EJBGen, from what I investigated in the past, it would only work well with EJB2 (to generate the weblogic-ejb-jar content, you also have to use EJB2 annotations that were deprecated by EJB3 annotations - if you do this, you will end up with spaghetti code, in my humble opinion).

SOLUTION! (NO NEED TO RESET YOUR IPHONE SETTING!)
I have the same issue for the last two weeks. But i have already managed to solve the issue all by myself. When i go to Settings > Cellular > below the tab "use cellular data for:", i turned off some apps which i didnt want to use with cellular data. As soon as i go back to Settings, and then i went back to Cellular, the apps which i had switched off earlier, automatically turned back on.
Here's the solution:
Either you're using wifi or cellular data, first of all you're gonna hafto turn on the cellular data use for App Store. Once you have turned it on, go to App Store application. Update ALL the apps which have new updates available. If it asks you to log in your App Store, just do so. If there's something wrong with your debit or credit card information, it will ask you to update to a different card. Just do what it asks. Put in a new credit or debit card info and fill in the forms provided. The card you're using must be usable and has usable balance in it. Let's say atleast $10 to $20. As soon as it confirms your card successfully, the app updates will start automatically. Continue to update all the apps. After all updates are finished, go back to Settings > Cellular. Try to switch on or off some apps for data use and recheck.
Try it yourself! Have a nice day and don't put a blame on Apple for this.

How can I resize a pdf page content with annotations and highlights in Acrobat Pro while maintaining page size and annotation/highlight interactivity? I've tried to use the crop tool in Acrobat Pro (9) and the page does resize, but the highlights and annotations go all over the place. I specifically need to scale the page content smaller (83%) but maintain page size and annotation/highlight to content connection and interactivity.

An old trick (not recommended) would be to print to a new PDF with the page size selected but a scaling of the content. Only print the document, not the markup, to a new PDF. Close that PDF when done and reopen the old one (or maybe a copy of the old one for safety) and use Document Replace pages and select the new document to replace your current pages. You will then have to go back through the markup to locate it all correctly. There may be a more elegant way, but this may be the fastest.

I'm having a little trouble understanding the part about your password having to be reset. Why is that happening??
Let's start with Firefox's settings:
(1) You can configure the password manager feature on this tab:
orange Firefox button (or Tools menu) > Options > Security
There is a checkbox to enable/disable the feature.
There also is a "Saved Passwords" button to review and remove any passwords you do not want Firefox to keep.
That tab also has a feature to set a Master Password so that no one can use your saved passwords without knowing the Master Password. You may need to exit Firefox in order for Firefox to ask for that again.

(2) Site-specific permissions
If you want to use the password manager for other sites but NOT a particular site, you can configure that in the Permissions Manager.

After the page loads, use the search box in the upper left corner to narrow down the list to the site you want to configure. Highlight the site on the left side, and on the right side, choose Block under Store Passwords.
(3) Form autocomplete suggestions

Preview Release of WebLogic Portal 9 and Workshop 9

I would like to get my hands on a developer preview release of WebLogic Portal 9 and Workshop 9. I can't seem to find it online so I'm hoping someone can point me in the right direction. We're currently evaluating portal products and I would hate to decide against BEA based on the lack of availability of the forthcoming version.
Anybody know where a developer release of either of these two products can be found?

Weblogic 4.5 and Visual Cafe 3.1

Hi,
I am having a problem integrating Visual Cafe with Weblogic.
Specifically, it involves getting the Weblogic classpath modified to support
setting up a connection pool to an Informix database. If I start the
Weblogic server manually, I can set the server classpath appropriately to
find the Informix JDBC driver and my pool is setup properly.
However with VC, it starts the Weblogic server from the IDE and I have
not been able to get the addition classpath entries to find the Informix
driver. Is there a way to add additional classpath entries so that when VC
starts Weblogic it will find my JDBC driver? Or do I have to start the
Weblogic server seperately and setup remote debugging manually?

If you don'y use the symantec debug VM, it stands to reason that the debug
environment will not see your process in the VM. I can't help you with why your
WL crashes when you connect using the debug VM. Perhaps you could post some more
information?

 I was using weblogic 6.1 and as my organization wants to go for 7.0, we
 are in the process of evaluating 7.0 ver.
 WL6.1 javax.servlet.filter interface provides the methods doFilter(), setFilterConfig(),
 getFilterConfig(). We have an implementation for the Filter which also contains
 a private method init(FilterCongig filterConfig).
 In 7.0 javax.servlet.filter interface the methods are doFilter(), init(), destroy().
 Because of the obvious reason i have a private implementation of init(FilterConfig
 )in my code the build does not succeed. When i checked the java specifications
 from Sun site I found 1.3.1 and 1.4(beta) specs provide doFilter(), init() and
 destroy().
 Question is: Is weblogic 6.1, JDK 1.3.1 compliant, if so why there is not init()
 method in the filter interface??. (Otherwise its a bug)

6.1 did not implement the final version of the Servlet 2.3 specification, that's

whats a weblogic App domain? do you mean a workshop or server domain?
Yes theres a difference, these domains wont have Portal needed resources configured
Use the domain configuration wizard and you can create a new Portal domain or extend an existing one to add all the portal features.. look at edocs.bea.com for more info

Server Manager error 0x80070422 - Roles and features are not accesible

I cannot view Roles and Features in Server Manager on my Server 2008 R2 box. The error is:

I have looked at my services - but don't know what service to look for, everything seems to be in order.

Hi,
Please try to install Windows Server 2008 R2 Service Pack 1 directly and check the result. Service Pack 1 for Windows Server 2008 R2 includes all the
previous released Windows Updates and hotfixes.
If it does not work, you will need to copy these files from another working Windows Server 2008 R2 system to replace the corrupt ones.
Otherwise, you will need to perform an In-Place upgrade to repair the system.

BUGS and FEATURES REQUESTED. Please add to it.

I've been using the z10 for the past couple weeks and wanted to start a thread of comprehensive Bugs and Features Requested.
I've labeled Bugs by letters (A,B,C...) and Features Requested by numbers (1, 2, 3...) so that others can add sequentially.
BUGS
(Not listed in any particular order)
(A.) Contact App adds current date as birthday. When I edit my contact, the current date gets listed as the birthday in local contact.
(B.) Duplicate telephone numbers listed. Telephone numbers show up twice in my Contacts (e.g.., if I have the contact's cell saved in (000) 123-4567 format and the person has the number listed in Facebook, I get a duplicate entry of +10001234567).
(C.) Telephone numbers and emails are not actionable in Web pages. In webpages, I can't click on telephone number to call (e.g., I look up a phone number for a restaurant). I should be able to easily call or copy into the Phone App or E-mail App.
(D.) Auto capitulation for words on the word substitution list is wrong. For example, when the word substitution contains more than one word. I have "ru" change to "are you" but if the first letter is capitalized (R) then both words become capitalized words (Are You). I used to have shortcuts like "mysig" to create email signatures with legal disclaimers but I can't do that now.
(E.) Backspace delete doesn't work consistently. The Shift+Delete function seems only to work after moving the cursor. This feature is the Alt+Del action to delete words after the cursor.
(F.) All Emoticons do not list. Emoticons do not all fit on the the two screens (lists) of emoticons. I.e., two columns are missing from view and can be seen when sliding (swiping) between the lists. Also, sometimes when I select an emoticon, it doesn't correspond with the picture of the one I intended. I believe this error is related. As a separate note, there should be a way to see the underlying symbols of the emoticon. (Often times, other people don't have BlackBerrys so I'd like to know what symbols would be sent--my prior 9800 would show the characters as i scrolled through them).
(G.) BlackBerry keyboard doesn't always work in input fields. E.g., certain Web pages. (I found a work around; two finger swipe up from the bottom makes the keyboard appear)
(H.) Sent messages stay unread. This seems to be an issue when an app sends an email (e.g., share article). The email with the sent indicator (checkmark) stays bold and I have listed 1 unread email. I can't mark as read/unread but if I delete the sent email, my unread message gets cleared.
(I.) Contact already added but I get the option to add instead of view contact. For some contacts, I get the option to add to contacts in the action menu cascade when that person is already in my address book. This bug is for emails and text messages.
(J.) Cannot call from text message. When I hold a text message and select call under the action menu cascade, the OS opens up the phone app but doesn't call.
(K.) Composing messages by name. When composting messages, the input must be by first, middle and last name. It should be, instead, by string and include nickname. E.g., if the person's name is "Andrew B. Cameron" I must type the name in as such. I can't type in "Andrew Cameron" or "Andy Cameron."
Features Requested and Suggestions for Improved User Experience
(In no particular order)
1)      Option to reply in different ways from the Call List. Be able to select a name in a call list and have options to call, text or email the person. The action menu allows calls to other numbers but I can't choose to text or email the contact instead. Sometimes, I missed a call and want to reply via text because I’m not able to talk. (Long hold on the Torch 9800 trackpad button brought up the action menu allowing me to call, text, view history, add to speed dial, e-mail, delete, etc.)
2)      Option to reply in different ways from the Hub. Related to above, when selecting an item in the hub, have the option to contact the sender or caller with multiple different ways.
3)      Only show number once in contacts application. Tap on the number to bring up the "action" cascade menu with options to call or text the number. Why is the same number listed twice (once to call and below again to text it)?
4)      Timestamps for individual text messages. I can't tell exact time on individual text message if it comes in near the time of another text. All messages are in one "bubble."
5)      Ability to select MMS or text for a message. Sometimes I write a text longer than 160 characters and I prefer it to be sent in one message (i.e., MMS mode) rather than being broken into one or more standard text messages. I had this ability with my 9800.
6)      Send button should be moved for text messages!!! Why the heck is it right underneath the delete button?!? Or next to the period button? I often times have accidentally hit send when composing text. It's very annoying and embarrassing. (Also, what happened to the ability to hit enter for a return carriage to next line?)
7)      Bigger magnifying glass. My finger is often over the area I need to place the cursor. I find it difficult and erratic to place the cursor.
8)      Select all option. Add the option to select all text in action menu cascade.
9)      E-mail recipients and message headers. Difficult to tell if you are one of many email recipients. Can we have a way to pull the email down to see the list of recipients rather than have to click to expand the header info? I know this request is a little picky, but that's how it was done in the previous BlackBerry OS which I preferred; it is easier and faster to pull the e-mail down and 'peek' to see which e-mail box received the message, message status, from and to fields. This change would be consistent with BB's flow/peek rather than click.
10)   Browser navigation. Hold down back arrow to get a list of recently visited websites similar to a desktop browser.
11)   Dark/Night mode. A night mode (maybe in the drop down menu) to change all the white and bright backgrounds to black or dark which would be helpful when reading/viewing things at night in bed/etc.
12)   Number of contacts. Ability to see how many contacts I have.
13)   What happened to groups or categories? I'd like to have back the ability to filter or see categories and also a way to contact everyone in a category. E.g., family or friends or coworkers, etc.
14)   Shutter sound mute. I was at a wedding and wanted to take pictures during the ceremony but the shutter would was too loud.
15)   East Asian Language Input. I bought my parents two Samsung Galaxy S3 phones over the weekend because they need Korean input (and the Kakao talk app). (BTW, S3 is a great phone but I prefer the Z10 after having the weekend to use the Android phones).
16)   Ability to freely place icons on the homesreen. Currently, icons are forced top left-right-to-bottom. I prefer to space my icons out.
17)   Add a contact to the homescreen. I'd like to place a shortcut (similar to a Webpage) to the homescreen for a contact which will open up the contact. Android allows this feature and so did my previous 9800.
18)   Search Contacts by nickname. The contacts app doesn't allow me to search by, e.g., Andy, even if I have that as my contact's nickname. The previous OS allowed this type of search which was very helpful.
Finally, as a note, I've been using the BlackBerry Z10 for the past 2 weeks and it's a great platform. I just bought two Samsung Galaxy S3 phones over the weekend for my parents so they could use the Korean language input and related features so I spent a lot of time with the Android platform, setting it up and teaching them how to use it. The S3 is a great phone too.
I prefer, however, the way BlackBerry has done their OS 10 and the integrated management of messages.
It's too bad that BB doesn't have Korean input and apps like Kakao Talk or I would have considered it for them.
The BlackBerry 10 is a great platform and I look forward to the continual improvements that will only make the experience better.

I'm trying to come up with query report to show Inactive Item bought within a specific period and not sold within a specific period by whse and have stock
The report should show Item Number, Item Name ,Item cost,Retail Price [Based on a price list], Qty in Whse, Last Purchase Date, Last sale Date etc.
e.g item bought between 2011-2013 and have not been sold with the same date range or the last 12 months.

I need to uninstall my old version on itunes and install a new version, i cant uninstall from Programs and Features, a message keeps coming up saying 'The feature you are trying to use is on a network resource that is unavailable.' Can anyone help please

I have tried to just install the new version of itunes from the apple website, it looks like it downloads but after 5 minutes at the end of the install it says 'old version of itunes cannot be uninstalled, please contact support.'?
Is there anyway I can remove the version of itunes from my computer? i dont mind if i lose the music/content I already have on my itunes. I need to do this as i have just received the iphone 4 and need to install the newest version of itunes.

Unfortunately, this sort of trouble has gotten more complicated to deal with ever since Microsoft pulled the Windows Installer CleanUp utility from their Download Center on June 25. First we have to find a copy of the utility.
Let's try Googling. (Best not to use Bing, I think.) Look for a working download site for at least version 3.0 of the Windows Installer CleanUp utility. After downloading the utility installer file (msicuu2.exe), scan the file for malware, just in case. (I use the free version of Malwarebytes AntiMalware to do single-file scans for that.)
If the file is clean, to install the utility, doubleclick the msicuu2.exe file you've downloaded.
Now run the utility ("Start > All Programs > Windows Install Clean Up"). In the list of programs that appears in CleanUp, select any iTunes entries and click "Remove".
Quit out of CleanUp, restart the PC and try installing iTunes again. Does the install go through properly now?
(If you do find a clean download site for the correct version of CleanUp, please don't tell me where it is. Without wishing to sound paranoid (although I grant it does sound paranoid), there is a non-zero chance that posting links to download locations for the utility here at Discussions leads to that download location being shut down.)
