Webserver on solaris 10

What is the minimum version of the Sun webserver that is supported on Solaris 10?
Also is there a migration path from webserver 6.1SP5 on Solaris 9 to a supported webserver version on Solaris10?
thanks and regards,
Vishal

You should use latest WS6.1SPx. For SPx level upgrade, you can install the new version in previous installation to get direct migration. We recommend you to use WS7.0 in Solaris 10 environment to get latest features. WS7.0 also provide a migration tool for you to migrate your WS6.x to WS7.0.

  • Passthrough from webserver to appserver

Has anybody successfully got SunOne webserver to pass requests through to an appserver on a different machine. I have read the documentation from Sun and added the following to the magnus.conf
    Init fn="load-modules" shlib="/iplanet/server6-2/AS7plugin/lib/webserver-plugin/solaris/iws/libpassthrough.so" funcs="init-p
    assthrough,auth-passthrough,check-passthrough,service-passthrough" NativeThread="no"
    Init fn="init-passthrough"
    and to obj.conf
    NameTrans fn="assign-name" from="(fortune/fortune/*)" name="passthrough"
    NameTrans fn="assign-name" from="(fortune/*)" name="passthrough"
at the top of the default object (I have deployed the fortune app from 6.5)
    and added
    <Object name="passthrough">
    ObjectType fn="force-type" type="magnus-internal/passthrough"
    Service type="magnus-internal/passthrough" fn="service-passthrough" servers="http://10.2.1.30:80"
    Error reason="Bad Gateway" fn="send-error" uri="$docroot/badgateway.html"
    </Object>
The server starts up O.K but nothing ever gets forwarded to the appserver it is still looking in the docroot of the local machine. The plugin library file is sucessfully linked in (pldd).
If I add an extra line in the obj.conf like
    NameTrans from="/" fn="passthrough"
I get the following reported in the error log.
[11/Nov/2002:11:03:28] config (28996): for host 0.0.0.0 trying to GET /, func_exec reports: cannot find function named passthrough
Anybody got any ideas? or actually has this working?

I realised what I have done! what an idiot I missed off the leading / on the redirection it should have been /fortune/fortune and not fortune/fortune.

  • Unable to forward requests from webserver

I am trying to set-up iWS 6.0sp4 to forward requests to the application server but I always get not found as the webserver is just looking at its own document root. I have deployed the fortune ear (from 6.5) and can access that via the application servers own http server perfectly well. I have added the plugin package to the webserver and added the following into the magnus.conf
    Init fn="load-modules" shlib="<install_dir>/lib/webserver-plugin/solaris/iws/libpassthrough.so" funcs="init-passthrough,auth-passthrough,check-passthrough,service-passthrough" NativeThread="no"
    Init fn="init-passthrough"
    and to the obj.conf
    NameTrans fn="assign-name" from="(fortune/fortune/*)" name="passthrough"
    NameTrans fn="assign-name" from="(fortune/*)" name="passthrough"
    ObjectType fn="force-type" type="magnus-internal/passthrough"
    Service type="magnus-internal/passthrough" fn="service-passthrough" servers="http://<application server http listener>"
    Error reason="Bad Gateway" fn="send-error" uri="$docroot/badgateway.html"
    </Object>
The webserver starts up without any errors but never forwards any requests what might I be doing wrong?

I followed the instructions found in the App Server 7 documentation and everything worked fine.
The instructions I followed are in the document found at this link:
    http://docs.sun.com/source/816-7156-10/agplugin.html#17655
    Just FYI...
I also checked with Sun about why this process is now necessary and I asked about what happened to the web connector from 6.x. Sun had this reply:
The Web Server Plug-in is the new web connector. It just hasn't been wrapped with an installation yet ... which is why it is tedious. The old Plug-in for 6.5 would ultimately have the same type of obj.conf entries. I'm not sure if there will be an installation wrapper for it once the Enterprise Edition is released.
The Web Server Plug-in is different right now in that it doesn't 'know' about multiple instances yet. These are capabilities that will be introduced in the Enterprise Edition in March. Of course, that doesn't stop you from having multiple instances of the web server talking to multiple instances of the app server. It just means that the web server instances have to be directed to the app server instances rather than discovering them.

  • Does not Redirect to requested page

    Hi,
We are trying to deploy Sun Access Manager with Policy Agent 2.2 on Sun Application server 9.1 and Sun WebServer in Solaris.
I have detailed below the steps followed by us to deploy on Solaris 64-bit machine.
We have the following two machines. (Both are 64 bit Sparc 9 Machines)
    1. solaris9.tricipher.com
    Following is the configuration.
         Sun Java Application Server 9.1
Sun Java System Access Manager 7.1
Steps performed while configuring the Sun Java System Access Manager 7.1.
    1.     We created a policy named "TriCipher Policy".
    2.     We created a rule named http://sol9test.tricipher.com: 80/TC/welcome.html
and allow for both GET & POST.
    3.     We created the subject named "TriCipher Subject" and select "All Authenticated Users "option with it.
    4.     We created the user named "tricipheruser" and password.
    5.     We created the agent named "tricipheragent" and password
    2. sol9test.tricipher.com
    Following is the configuration.
Sun Java System Web Server 7.0
Sun Java System Access Manager Policy Agent 2.2 for Sun Java System Web Server 7.0
Steps performed while configuring the Sun Java System Web Server 7.0
    1.     We deployed a .war file named "TC.war". This file contains the simple html file (welcome.html)
    2.     We installed the above specified policy agent, which created the file "AMAgent.properties".
    3.     While installing the policy agent we specified the agent name "tricipheragent" and its password after encrypting it.
When we tried to access to protected URL from the windows machine of same domain it redirected us to the login page of the Sun Java System Access Manger 7.1 as expected.
We entered the username "tricipheruser" and its password, it verified the user details and it forward the request to the browser with the desired URL, however, and it shows a blank page.
We have checked the web server log and found the following error. "Failure for host 10.66.8.15 trying to GET /TC/welcome.html, func_exec reports: HTTP2302: Function
validate_session_policy aborted the request without setting the status code"
We have identified that the error is at validate_session_policy (PathCheck is the node), which is called in obj.conf at the agent in the web server config folder. (Attached herewith the modified obj.conf folder)
Further we have tried the following too:
    1. Tried with IIS Server with the policy agent deployed. However, the
    result is same.
    2. Secondly we removed all policy agent and configure the Sun Access
Manager such that, on successful login in the Sun Access Manager it will redirect to www.yahoo.com page. It works fine.
    3. Thirdly we modified the configuration, such that the successful login of Sun Access Manager will redirect to our site i,e.
http://iis-02-tricipher.com: 80/login.html. Now we are getting blank page.
In order to identify what is coming in the http header; we have installed "http live Header" in Fire fox browser and found that there is an error HTTP/1.x 500 Internal Server Error. We could not find the reason for this.
    Looking forward to your help.

    Hi,
One thing that could help is to look at the info in the agent logs, first increase Debug Logging Level, then restart the agent server and click thru your app, then look in agent runtime logs which should have more descriptive errors. For more detail on how to do this, try http://wikis.sun.com/display/OpenSSO/GlassFishAgentTrouble#GlassFishAgentTrouble-generaltips
You could look on this page, which is mostly based on GlassFish server but could help for other servers as well.
    http://wikis.sun.com/display/OpenSSO/GlassFishAgentTrouble
I have not installed either of the policy agents you mentioned. But with some of the other agents, like the Sun App server 9 (GlassFish) agent, it comes with a sample application, and I find that this is the best way to ensure your setup is good and you are following all steps etc. Once sample app is up, you can try your own apps with confidence.
Since you already have the SJSAS 9 installed, maybe you could create a new domain and download/install the SJSAS 9 policy agent on the new domain. Then try out the sample app?
Or if those other agents have a sample app then try it out.

    Sean

  • Oracle Instant Client is a memory hog?

    Hi all,
I am having (potentially) an issue that I need to confirm with folks out there. I am not a DBA - I have a decent understanding of SQL and have been exposed to several RDBMS's, but this is my first time developing in PHP specifically with Oracle in mind.
First, my setup (note this is for development, not production; ultimately, the final deployed environment will be 2 high-end SPARC servers (one for web, one for db)):
    1. DEV: Webserver running Solaris 10, Apache 2.0.52 and PHP 5.1.2 and Oracle Instant Client v.10.1.0.3 (note all versions except PHP haven been dictated by the customer). PHP is compiled with apxs2, postgres, sqlite-utf8 and oracle support (hooked into instant client).
    2. DEV: DB server running Oracle 10g on Windows 2003. Using stock configuration.
I have a PHP application using AdoDB for abstraction and Smarty for templating; also using Fusebox.
The whole setup as described above works flawlessly. I notice that the apache process(es) usually sit between 20-25M given the LoadModule configuration in Apache, and the extensions being loaded in PHP. Whenever I make connection to postgres, or sqlite, the processes stay within the described memory usage patterns above (so 20-25M).
However, whenever I attempt making a connection using the Oracle Instant Client (using either native OCI8 or adoDB calls, using both persistent and non-persistent connections), the Apache process jumps from a meager 20-25M to 85M+... I don't even have to do a select - just the very action of establishing the connection results in this jump in memory usage.
What I need to know is - is this normal? Is it normal for the client to have this size of a footprint on memory? If so, I need to ensure that the final deployed environment is capable of handling these kinds of jumps. If this is NOT normal, well, heck folks, I need some friendly pointers.
Any and all help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks,

I emailed the OCI team and got this:
'Basically, the data shared library, which is about 85MB, gets mapped to the process
virtual address when it is initially loaded by dlopen(). However, only the pages needed
by the application are actually mapped to the physical memory, and they get swapped
out by OS unless re-used. The data shared library is loaded as a shareable read-only
const data. Therefore, a process memory map should show that it is shared among all
    Apache processes.'
Some linking quirks on various platforms were ironed out pretty early, but on Solaris, if
you have metalink access, check out bug 4304233 .
There is an Instant Client forum at Instant Client

  • Web agent 6.1 support for apache 1.3.27

    Hi ,
Sun document says that identity policy agent 6.0 supports Apache 1.3.27 webserver on solaris 9. I have installed the Policy agent 6.1 for apache 1.3.27 on solaris 9 . • Migrating from ASP to JSP

Hi all, I'm new to this forum.
I'm currently evaluating a migration from IIS to Webserver 7 (Solaris).
Right now we have a bunch of Unix/BSD doing inverse-proxy on the Windows ones, and in order to simplify, I got this brilliant - that's sarcasm - idea... I promised more speed and security, without too much difficulty...
Next, I installed Solaris 10 on one server, and after setup webserver 7, I realized that it's not possible (at least at the moment) to install ASP with version 7.
I already was willing to work the code in order to adapt it from the Microsoft ASP to the Sun one.
So having to decide between go back to webserver 6.x or adapt the ASP code to JSP, I'm considering the last one. I belong to those who think a native solution is better than any pluggin or something like that.
So far, so good... but then I got stuck. In the whole application (in fact by my suggestion and insistence - my big mouth again -) we used the getstring method from ADODB a lot, which returns the values in the recordset into a formatted string, based on patterns. We can get XML, HTML table, JS arrays, etc. in the blink of an eye.
I tried to google it, but find anything in JSP that allows me to do this without any loop, the (BIG) improvement in performance (my main argument for the change) was dramatic once we take out the loops, and it allowed us to make deeper changes in the code. They can beat-the-damm-loop-out-of-me, if I try to get those loops back
Does somebody knows a workaround in JSP?

    Thanks for your quick response.
Usually there is no problem with use the output parameter as nvarchar in our Stored Procedures (mssql), in fact I was trying that this weekend as alternative, but this add complexity to the SP and drop the performance.
I guess I can take the time to optimize the SQL code, and maintaining backward compatibility for any other system that uses it, but there is a lot of another applications (desktop and web) that use those procedures, and the cost is overwhelming.
Is a lot better to reimplement the "while (Recordset.next()){" instead of mess with the backbone of our applications.
If there is no replacement for the ASP getstring, maybe I need to downgrade to webserver 6.x, (in order to install ASP) or try to implement some similar myself in JSP as a class or something, and test the performance.

  • IPlanet 6.0 WebServer error with Solaris 8

    thanks in advance,

I think you should apply the latest service pack, iPlanet Web Server 6.0 SP9, and the latest Solaris 8 recommended patch cluster.
    iPlanet Web Server 6.0 SP9: http://www.sun.com/download/products.xml?id=41ca136a
    Recommended Solaris patch clusters: http://sunsolve.sun.com/pub-cgi/show.pl?target=patches/patch-access
If for some reason you can't apply these updates, you can eliminate the error messages by disabling Web Server's statistics collection functionality. To do this, comment out any lines in the magnus.conf configuration file that mention perf-init or stats-init. For example, you would change the following line:Init fn="stats-init" profiling="on"To comment it out, add a # at the beginning of the line:#Init fn="stats-init" profiling="on"

Can anyone help? This is currently driving me nuts. I was able to
connect when I changed it to an application.
I am using the Iplanet Webserver 6.0 on a Linux 7.2 platform. Like I
said, sqlplus works fine, standard java application works fine but
when I change it to a servlet (which means it now goes through the

Does anyone know what the source code is trying to do at
    OCIDBAccess.java:1743 ?
    Thanks guys!

Tony, could you please explain me better the procedure that you wrote?
What are the boxes? My situation is similar:
    | ServerSocket (1) |
    | (192.168.1.100, 5555) |
    |
    |
    |
    |
    | Proxy |
    | Someone wants to connect to the ServerSocket (1) |
That is not true. You CAN do it but you need a box
outside the firewall with proper IP address to help
you. I am not sure if Sergio still wants the answer
today after more than a year from the original post (I
did not see the post until today when I try to search
for something else). Anyway, if such a box is
available (I call it 2nd box), you could first
establish a socket between the two boxes by HTTP
tunneling (I assume it is a http proxy). You have to
initiate the socket from the 1st box. Then start
another server socket on the 2nd box, forwarding the
traffic it gets from outside back to the 1st box using
the established channel. That is it.

  • Help!!  Please!  CF 8.0.1 Multi-Server/Solaris 10/WebServer 7

    Good afternoon,
I'm having a bit of a bizarre problem, and I cannot locate the root cause.
My environment is:  Sun E5220 running LDOMS V1.3 software.  I have a 4 processor node configured with Sun Solairs 10u5, Java SDK 1.6.0_25-b06 SE Runtime Environment.  JRun4 Updater 7, Coldfusion 8.0.1 and Sun Java WebServer 7 Update 5.  All of this is running in 64-bit mode.
JRun4 is apparently running correctly - or at least I see no issues there.
WebServer 7 is running correctly, and I find no errors.
ColdFusion is up and running and I can log into the system with no problems using the Coldfusion Admin Pages.
    All of that works.
I created a new site with a new web server config and instance called "rand"  (as in Research and Development).  The site comes up well enough.  I went into Coldfusion admin on the MASTER site and created a new instance there called rand.  I then did a WSCONFIG and added in the NSAPI in 64-bit mode (the -ws64 switch) and redeployed the configuration.  The rand website has a default document directory of /web/rand  and the CFIDE files are loaded into that directory.  I took a piece of test code and loaded it via:   http://rand.mydomain.com/howard/test1.cfm  and it did indeed display on the screen - HOWEVER - it did NOT get processed by Coldfusion.  Here is my source code:
    <!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Transitional//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-transitional.dtd">

    <body>

    </html>
    .....and here is my output:
    Here is some CFM output
    It reads as follows:
    #testparm#
Note that this is NOT processed by Coldfusion.
If, however, I take this same code and place it in:
/opt/jrun4/servers/rand/cfusion.ear/cfusion.war/test1.cfm  and then access it using:  http://rand.mydomain.com:8301/test1.cfm it will work perfectly and my output appears as:
    Here is some CFM output
    It reads as follows:
    this is a simple test
I've looked around everyplace that I know to look, and I cannot find this issue or a solution.  Does anyone have any ideas?  All help is appreciated.
and as always, thanks in advance!!

Hi Howard, Coupla things to try and trace the problem:
As I understand it you have a new JWS instance and a new CF instance [default instances for both are running OK] - new CFIDE is in the rand JSW instance
Connecting to JWS is easiest via the external web connector (wsconfig) in [JRUN-HOME}/bin - don'tuse the cf-connectors.sh or the applet
Your JWS instance isn't picking up the NSAPI connection so first delete the new wsconfig instance and check:
    1. {JRUN_HOME}/servers/rand/server-inf/jrun.xml (around line 440 is a switch for JRun web server <keep-alive>set to false
    2. {JRUN_HOME}/servers/rand/cfusion.ear/cfusion.war/WEB_INF/cfusion/lib/ - use Find to locate the /CFIDE mapping and change to your jws rand instance path
    3.  Check {JRUN-HOME}/lib/wsconfig - should only be a single folder '1/' containing jrunserver.store file
    4. Look in {JRUN_HOME}/servers/rand/cfusion.ear/cfusion.war/WEB_INF/cfusion/logs/exception.log for errors
    5. Look in JRUN_HOME}/logs/rand-event.log
    6. Restart CF rand instance
    7. change dir to {JRUN-HOME}/bin - run the fol :  wsconfig -server rand -ws iplanet -dir /opt/webserver7/web/rand/config -coldfusion -v -ws64
    Use the command line to run wsconfig {not applet}
    8. Once successfuly run, check - {JRUN-HOME}/lib/wsconfig/rand/ - you should have jrunserver.store and libjrun_nsapi.so (if no jrunserver.store} - cp from JRUN-HOME}/lib/wsconfig/1/
    9, Stop JWS
    10. Now you need to edit the JWS instance start script in {JWS-HOME}/web/rand/bin/startserv - and change the corrsponding line with this one:
    LD_LIBRARY_PATH_64="${SERVER_LIB_PATH_64}:${SERVER_JVM_LIBPATH}:${LD_LIBRARY_PATH_64}:/usr /lib/sparcv9:/usr/sfw/lib/sparcv9"; export LD_LIBRARY_PATH_64
    11. Start JWS instance
    12. Check that the CFIDE is working in that instance
    13. Check your test file in that instance
    14.  Grab a copy of your obj.conf andf magnus.conf files
If the web connector doesn't work first time - don't be afraid to use remove command and try again - it can be a bit touchy sometimes
Gimme a shout if this persists,
    Best,
    Padz

  • Will iPlanet WebServer-Enterprise Edition work with Solaris 8?

I think you should apply the latest service pack, iPlanet Web Server 6.0 SP9, and the latest Solaris 8 recommended patch cluster.
    iPlanet Web Server 6.0 SP9: http://www.sun.com/download/products.xml?id=41ca136a
    Recommended Solaris patch clusters: http://sunsolve.sun.com/pub-cgi/show.pl?target=patches/patch-access
If for some reason you can't apply these updates, you can eliminate the error messages by disabling Web Server's statistics collection functionality. To do this, comment out any lines in the magnus.conf configuration file that mention perf-init or stats-init. For example, you would change the following line:Init fn="stats-init" profiling="on"To comment it out, add a # at the beginning of the line:#Init fn="stats-init" profiling="on"

    hi,
Make sure that your network uses DNS naming.
This error occurs when a machine is not correctly configured to use DNS naming. The default fully qualified host and domain name presented during installation is not correct.
To successfully install, you need to provide a fully qualified domain name that consists of a local host name along with its domain name.
for example yoursystem is a host name and yourdomain.com is a fully qualified domain name.
    regards,
    saravanan
