Website doesn't render properly on an ipad - looks okay on normal desktop computers?

Best wishes everyone!
Rookie at Dreamweaver but have created a website that looks fine on desktops, Apple and Pc but when viewed in pad doesn’t seem to render properly. Site is www.oakridgegroup.co.uk.
Any ideas on what I need to do to fix this.
Thanks,
mmc.13

Some good news for you is that the problem is not just for iPad's but for desktops too. If you make your browser window smaller than your wrapper, you see the same problem. This is good news because it's not a single device/browser issue and relates to the basic code.
The way you have structured the pages will forever give you issues as you have used positioning on almost every element. Couple that with what looks like different style sheets on some pages and you have a recipe for hair-pulling.
Some quick tips for you when creating a basic structure:
Link all pages to one basic stylesheet. This will make it easier to keep things consistent and for you to make site-wide changes. To go one step further, you could also copy any other styles (nivo slider) into that same stylesheet so you end up with one sheet in total. This will also give you a tiny speed increase in load time.
Don't use positioning for layout structure. It will only end badly. Use of floats is far more efficient and easier to keep a consistent structure. This will also play into your hands if you wanted to create an iPad focussed web site.
Don't set heights on every element. You have a height specified on the wrapper which is why there is a huge gap at the bottom of the page when viewing on either desktop or iPad.
Place all scripts either in the <head> section of the page or at the bottom of the page, directly before the </body></html> tags. I personally put them at the bottom.
Ensure all code is correct by running it through the w3c validator. This will keep you going in the right direction. Eg, you are missing the </html> I reference above. It goes at the very end of the code.
Sorry this doesn't answer your question exactly but the issue you see is one I have seen a few times recently from people using designer templates and positioning. Sometimes it's easier and better to re-work the base code.

  • Overlaid text doesn't render properly in the iPad

Overlaying text on top of already rendered areas causes erratic rendering on the iPad. These are NOT issues on Sarari running on my Windows 7 desktop.

Issue 2 - the overlayed text renders correctly but doesn't allow the rest of the movie to play.

Did you have any luck with the download? The link I sent you does not need to download using username and password.
Additionally I doubt if your company would know what your username and password is for SAP as you got to request SAP to get one.

When I compress my movie to quicktime, the audio doesn't sync properly, even though it looks fine in iMovie. How do I fix this?

Audio on the timeline, especially stream, tends to play very reliably. Is this project under any NDA or can you provide a FLA to examine? Let me know if you want to private message it and I'll shoot you a message.

  • Unicode doesn't render properly

    Hi all,
I have problem with Unicode. Air doesn't render Khmer Unicode
properly, but when I open the file in Safari and Chrome, it works
fine. If I'm not mistaken, Air, Safari and Chrome use Webkit to
render HTML. Why does it work with Safari and Chrome and doesn't
    work with Air? Any idea?
    Thanks in advanced.

  • Website doesn't load properly in Firefox and IR.

Does anybody know why my website:
www.clicktoneproductions.com doesn't load properly in firefox and
Internet explorer but seems to load okay in safari? This is my
first ever website so I'm not too familiar with CSS although I've
used Div Tags to contain all the links and used CSS for the
    background image.
In firefox/IR the background image either doesn't load at all
    or loads sometimes.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Start by adding a valid doctype and validating the page.
Also, why do you have a splash page that does nothing other than
open a popup? Many people will not disable their popup blocker just
to enter your site and the splash page adds nothing of
    value.

  • Devanagari/Hindi Text Doesn't Render Properly

I was so hoping that HIndi text would render properly with the 3.0 upgrade. Sadly it is still broken.
I encourage folks to report this:
    http://www.apple.com/feedback/iphone.html
Ideally it would be great to have a keyboard input method, but it is sort of embarrassing that the iPhone can't render web pages (like www.bbc.co.uk/hindi/) correctly.

  • A website doesn't display properly on iMac

    Hi
    I'm stumped.
I own both an iMac and a MacBook.
Lately I've been trying to use www.theknot.com and while the website does work, it displays totally wrong on my iMac (the middle section is sent way down the page or in a ridiculous way (see pic)
I looked at all I could think of (not a newbie, but not savvy enough to go look in the coding to look for errors there).
The one section from the site which displays correctly is one without a menu on both right and left. It's a blog. Here's a clue, I guess.
I tried with both Safari 5.1.6 and Firefox 13.0, with the exact same result.
But on my Macbook it displays perfect! I am using Firefox 12.0 on it.
So I downgraded to Firefox 12.0 on the iMac... no success.
Of course I also cleared the cache, closed the browser, and the computer... no luck.
I then removed all plugins, since it was the only remaining difference... nope.
I thought it could be a difference in display... altough I couldn't see how... I changed it from 1920x1080 to the ones similar to my Macbook's (1280x1024 and 1280x720)... Of course it was the same, just more blurry.
It doesn't make sense and I hate it when it doesn't make sense!
Of course I hate it even more that I can't use that website on my iMac!!! (or with a lot of hassle).
If someone knows what other setting I could've missed that can be different between the iMac and Macbook, can influence the website display in both Safari and Firefox, please do tell! :-)
    Thanks

BTW your picture does not show. I'd start by resetting Safari, Safari - Reset. Try that and clearing it's cookies, after doing both then restart in Safe Mode to clear some caches, then restart normally and try again.

  • A certain website doesn't work properly in Firefox anymore.

I used to use a website www.padmapper.com After a recent update to Firefox (I think 3 or 4 updates ago) I suddenly couldn't use the website properly anymore. It would load but some of the options of for instance choosing a price-range wasn't working. Instead of a display of numbers I got a display stating NaN. I tried accessing the website using Internet Explorer and the website appeared to be working fine using that browser. I am using the latest version of Firefox (36.0.4)

I checked the site out. Had no problem.
Make sure Java and Flash are enabled and up-to-date.
Many site issues can be caused by corrupt cookies or cache.

  • I have Firefox 23.0.1. Slidedeck doesn't render properly.

tateinc.com is my website. The home page uses slidedeck. It use to render fine but not anymore. I now have Firefox 23.0.1. I saw online that an updated slidedeck.jquery.js will fix it, which I downloaded, but it did not fix the problem. Please help.

Clear the cache and cookies, if that doesnt work, try to disable hardware acceleration, instructions below.
    CACHE AND COOKIES
The first step is to clear both cookies and the cache.
Note: ''This will temporarily log you out of all sites you're logged in to.''
To clear cache and cookies do the following:
#Go to Firefox > History > Clear recent history or (if no Firefox button is shown) go to Tools > Clear recent history.
#Under "Time range to clear", select "Everything".
#Now, click the arrow next to Details to toggle the Details list active.
#From the details list, check ''Cache'' and ''Cookies'' and uncheck everything else.
#Now click the ''Clear now'' button.
Further information can be found in the [[Clear your cache, history and other personal information in Firefox]] article.
    DISABLE HARDWARE ACCELERATION
You might need to restart Firefox in order for this to take effect, so save all work first (e.g., mail you are composing, online documents you're editing, etc.).
    Then perform these steps:
*Click the orange Firefox button at the top left, then select the "Options" button, or, if there is no Firefox button at the top, go to Tools > Options.
*In the Firefox options window click the ''Advanced'' tab, then select "General".
*In the settings list, you should find the ''Use hardware acceleration when available'' checkbox. Uncheck this checkbox.
*Now, restart Firefox and see if the problems persist.
Additionally, please check for updates for your graphics driver by following the steps mentioned in the following Knowledge base articles:
    * [[Troubleshoot extensions, themes and hardware acceleration issues to solve common Firefox problems]]
    * [[Upgrade your graphics drivers to use hardware acceleration and WebGL]]

  • Website doesn't display properly in Firefox. Web operator says use IE.

I logged into a website the other day and parts of the page display incorrectly in Firefox. The owner says "we don't support Firefox" Is there a way to tell FF to open the page automatically in IE when I type in that URL? This was an option in a previous version of FF but it's disappeared. Same problem occurs with my machine and the machine at work so it's not O/S based

You can look at these extensions:

  • Some text on websites doesn't display properly

Some text doesn't appear correct in Firefox (but does in IE). The text appears to get jumbled or scrambled but if I cut and paste the text from Firefox to a text file, the text is normal so it must be something in the display setting. The link below is a screenshot of Firefox.
Any ideas what is causing this?

This issue can be caused by an old bitmap version of the Helvetica or Geneva font or (bitmap) fonts that Firefox can't display in that size.<br />
Firefox can't display some old bitmap fonts in a larger size and displays gibberish instead.<br />
You can test that by zooming out (View > Zoom > Zoom Out, Ctrl -) to make the text smaller.<br />
    <br />
Uninstall (remove) all variants of that not working font to make Firefox use another font or see if you can find a True type version that doesn't show the problem.<br />
There have also been fonts with a Chinese name reported that identify themselves as Helvetica, so check that as well.<br />

  • The new iOS 7 doesn't work properly to my iPad (3rd versions)

Is it too rush to allow it for installation? Apple should test it securely before issue to public! I need to force restart my iPad always!!

The symptom you're describing could be either hardware or software related. The troubleshooting steps as follows are to start isolating the issue on both ends.
From a hardware perspective, start with an SMC reset and an NVRAM reset. You can also run Apple Diagnostics to see if it picks up any immediate hardware issues.
After that, if the issue persists, try things out in Safe Mode and in a Test User. These will start looking into software issues.
Of course, another option, if you want, is to return/exchange the machine for another one. The return/exchange policy with Apple is 14 days. Just to keep that on the back burner.
    Let us know the results!
