Weird boxes in code view from Dreamweaver 8 to Dreamweaver MX

I have Dreamweaver 8 and my coworker has Dreamweaver MX. I
have an XML document save from Dreamweaver 8. When the document is
opened in Dreamweaver MX, there are alot of little boxes thrown in
throughout the code. For example commented code has a box after
each letter and each new line of code has a box at the start.
Here's an example of what I mean. (I will use "O " instead of
a box, because I don't know how to insert a box)
Dreamweaver 8:
<!-- Hello this is my code-->
Dreamweaver MX:
O<O!O-O-OHOeOlOloO OtOhOiOsO OiOsO OmOyO OcOoOdOeO
O-O-O>
As you can see this make the code virtually unreadable.
Does anyone know a way around this issue?
Thanks

I figured it out myself. For anyone else that encounters this
problem the solution is to. Open the document in WordPad and then
save it as a "text document". Then reopen it in Dreamweaver MX and
the little boxes are gone.

  • Weird box on desk top from ICal Info Window when using Expose

Whenever I use the info Window in iCal to enter some text in the Notes area, if I don't remember to click on the main window, or pretty much any other place in iCal afterward then when I use Expose to go to the desk top I end up with this wierd rectangle or square (composed of a thin white line) exactly the size of the text that I'd entered in the Notes section that is exactly the size of the text.
Is there any fix for this? Tiger is so appealing to the eye over all, one of the things I love about Mac, and that seems like a weird, ugly little glitch.
Thanks in advance for the help.

No, but I tried what you were saying and then yes, I see the little box that was around what I was typing in Notes is still on the desktop when I hit the F11 key. Cheers!

  • Dreamweaver CS4 Code View

Please excuse this question, but I don't know what to call
    it...
What is the red dash box in code view? How do I set it?
    Thanks much

The red dashed box is what you see when you insert a form on
    a page (INSERT
    | Form > Form).
    > I'm trying to figure out how to control it thought
    Dreamweaver CS4.
Sorry - I have no idea what you are asking here. Do you NEED
    a form on your
page? If you do, and you are wanting to alter the appearance
    of it, use
CSS. You do know that the red dashes are only seen when
    looking at the page
in DW's Design view, right? Or maybe are you asking how to
    change THAT
appearance? Like from red dashes to green dashes? Sorry - I
    have no idea
    how to do that.

  • Code View Wordwrap Bug

In code view window, with wordwrap, dreamweaver hides code characters on the right edge of window.
It only hides 3-4 last character of the largest line.
Is it a bug? Does anyone notice it?

I have also faced this issue where if code's line is large and WordWrap is enabled, then it Dreamweaver CS6 actually wrapped it but hides 3 to 4 characters which is not select able or even view able. See the attached screenshot, you will see Dreamweaver CS6 hides some characters of my line which is definitely something wrong with the DreamWeaver.
Can anybody found the way to avoid it..??..I cant allow the WordWrap to be disabled and scroll it with that pathetic horizontal scroll.

  • Opening in code view in CS5

A while back I posted a discussion seeking information about having PHP files open in code view instead of design view. (CS4).
I found out that I was able to tell PHP files to open in code view, but for some reason the creators of DW saw it fit to fix it so that if you force files to open in code view, then you could not switch to design view by any means.
As a PHP coder I rearely go into design or split/design view, but I do have an occaisional need to do so.
My question is, has this been fixed in CS5? In other words, can I have my PHP files set to ALWAYS open in code view, but still have the option to simply click on the design/split button and go into design mode?
    Thanks,
    Cy

I did as you suggested and this morning when I opened DW, then opened the PHP file I was last editing yesterday. The same thing happened. It opened the file in design view.
This particular file is a class and would never really be looked at in design. Nevertheless, though I NEVER put it in design, it opened it that way. So the argument that a file will open in the last view it was in is not valid here either.
I just don't get it. Everybody I have told about this agrees that it is down-right unreasonable to lock out the ability to chose Split or Design just because you told DW to always open PHP files on code view from the preferences. The idea wreaks of a bunch of programmers deciding on usability, which they evidently don't understand in their own little world. I've worked at a major software development company and I know far too well the mentality of programmers who develop far beyond my capabilities.
DW devs, please take note: Just because we want to force open a file in CODE view doesn't mean we don't want to switch to design view at some point for that same file. Forcing us to open files in design is like telling us you know better, and believe me, you don't.
It's really simple - Allow us to set a file type to open only in code view, but don't lock us out by disabling the buttons to switch to split or design if we want.
    Cy
PS: A pic of what happens when I force .php files to open in code view:
As you can see, Split and Design are disabled. WHY force this?

  • Why won't Dreamweaver code view allow me to select from all of my system fonts?

I am trying to change the font for my code view in Dreamweaver CC.  However, it does not let me choose from a list of all fonts installed on my computer...it just gives me about 50 or so random fonts (some of them glyph fonts which are completely useless in this scenario).  It doesn't even include basics like Courier.  I had previously been using CS4, and it allowed me to choose any font I wanted.  Any ideas?

I've just checked Dreamweaver CC on my MacBook Air. I don't know whether it lists every single font on my machine, but the list was very long. It certainly wasn't just a short, random list. Are you trying to change the Code view font in the right place?

  • Dreamweaver CC crashes when switching from code view to design view

I am experiencing a recent problem with a file I am currently working. When I switch from code view to design view Dreamweaver crashes and requests a shut down. Other files seem to work without a problem. This particular files has 3 cascading EdgeAnimation CC files that are selected by media queries. I can test the page online without a problem but not in design or live view.

Since your new page didn't crash, this leads me to believe that you have some critical errors and/or conflicts in your other page(s).

  • How do I stop Dreamweaver from replaceing " with È while in code view

Here is my problem (DWCS5 Version):
I open DreamWeaver and all is fine. I only use code view.
As I work I might open .cfm files, or even (it seems) open a browser - and when I return to writing my code, when I type " Dreamweaver types È
    " is typed as È
    ' is typed as è
The only way to stop is is close Dreamweaver and reopen. Then the coding works great for that file until I visit another file I opend or even a browser that was open. It's not every file that I open or page that I visit. I've yet to determine what is happening.
It feels like dreamweaver is somehow changing character sets.
For example, DreamWeaver is currently messed up replacing characters, but it works fine filling out this post.
    Help!

Have you tried clearing the cache file?

Alot of "just started happeining, weird DW behaviors" can be repaired by doing away with the cache file.

  • How do I change Dreamweaver CC default view from split to code?!

In Dreamweaver CC, everytime I edit a .html file it defaults to the split view; I want it to open everything in code view! I have tried EDIT>PREFERENCES>FILE TYPES/EDITORS and added it to the open in code view option. But when I do this there is no option to switch between code-split-design when editing the file. I just want it to open everything into code view by default. I never had this problem with any other version of Dreamweaver and its driving me insane. I am only trying CC but this is a deal breaker for me, I would rather keep using CS6 if I cant get this changed. Please help! Thanks.

This is Adobe. They are too busy adding really obscure features to worry about your ability to control the work interface simply.
    I too have this problem.
I think however, the best way would be for us to exchange lives as I have code view as the default and cant change that.
I think it would be simpler for us to exchange lives then it would be for adobe to fix the problem with their live cloud based software that you cant own and constantly reminds you of that fact by forcing you to register your product again and again.
No point in troubling their development staff who all seem to live in India even though I thought Adobe was a US company.
I hear they are busy with a module that allows people that use SASS and LESS at the same time as Fluid grids to make tea remotly thats dispensed via the USB 3.0 socket of any SkyLake equipped 14nm processor based laptop.
    Im holding my breath.
Meanwhile, i'll send you a letter with my address so you can move to my address and take up my identity and me vice versa. I think the letter will be faster than using this forum as I see this responce has already taken Adobe 2 years to ignore it and not sort it out.

  • Dreamweaver CS4 Start in Code View

How do I set Dreamweaver CS4 to start in Code View? Everytime I open a new file, it appears in Design View. I want to set Code View as my default. How do I do that?

That behavior is weird. I wonder why CS4 is so restrictive then. Seemed MX was more forgiving.
As for me, I use DW for its power in -- local development (Code View), FTP-ing, powerful search and replace across entire site, colorized view of my PHP/CSS/JavaScript syntax/HTML/etc., spell checking, code validation, source control with check-out, and a couple other minor features. I have never ever used design view or split view as I am a developer and not a "good" graphics and layout guy. I borrow and/or outsource that stuff to pro's.
So I push everything up to my Linux/Apache server and test view in FF and MSIE browsers from the web server. I develop on a Windows machine.
I guess I never trusted nor even understood the DW browser. What is it actually (rhetorical - no response necessary)?
If there was one feature that DW could implement that I believe would make it the cadillac tool of the century would be a "click here to view your page in:" and then have the page be able to properly display in the latest 3 versions of the Win-Firefox, Win-IE, Win-Opera, Mac-Safari, Mac-IE, Mac-FF and any other top/widely used browser. I know there are some web sites out there that translate a page into these views, but a tool/feature like that would make a developer's world truly heaven. Of yeah, what would the site also look like at selected screen resolution sizes and with and without JavaScript being turned on. Hmm, bet that tool would cost me a mint.
Hey, have a great day John and good luck with your DW!

  • ClearType makes fonts in Dreamweaver code view hard to read

I'm using Dreamweaver 8.0.2 with Windows Vista Business. As
you know, Vista has a feature called "ClearType," which is supposed
to help smooth out the on-screen fonts. It normally does do this,
but for some reason, in Dreamweaver code view, some of the edges of
fonts are cut off, making it very difficult to read at times. See
    pic here:
    http://www.klife.com/fontscutoff.jpg
I've tried changing the display fonts within Dreamweaver
(from Courier New to Arial, etc.), but it doesn't help. Actually,
Arial is worse. But here's what fixes it: turning off ClearType. I
haven't noticed ClearType messing any fonts up in programs except
for Dreamweaver. Why is DW doing this and is there anything I can
do to get ClearType to work with it?

You might want to try Clear Type Tuner. It is a Microsoft
    tool to let you
adjust your clear type settings to your liking. It was
    written for XP. I'm
not sure if they have a Vista version out yet, but the XP
    version might
    work.

Here is an online version, which I have not tried.

  • Dreamweaver code view letter spacing issue

    Good Morning at all,
This morning when i've started DreamWeaver i've seen something change.
As you can see in the picture below in the code view, the letters spacing is became really bigger than the normal.
In the picture below i've done a piece of code with my dreamweaver in the top and in the bottom with one of my friend.
When i try to change the font from the preferences menu (for example Verdana) the problem seems to solve but when i change again to Courrier New the problem return.
    What can i do?
For me it is really frustrating to work with this problem and I do not understand why it bothers me so much,
    Thanks for the help guyes!
    Manuel.

To change code formatting, go to Edit > Preferences > Code > Indent.  Then use Command > Apply Source Formatting.

  • Dreamweaver: code view - building links

Working in code view, does Dreamweaver have prefs to have the following behaviour with respect to creating links:
User selects some text in a sentence that will be the anchor for the link.
User selects an html file from the project file list.
User drags the file and drops it on to the text that will form the anchor.
    What happens:
The selected' text is replaced by the contents of the title tag in the html file that was dropped onto it.
What the user might expect to happen (because it's the quick and intuitive way to build links but no other editor appears to have this functionality, apart from Homesite):
The selected text becomes the anchor of a link to the file that's just been dropped onto it.
Is there a pref in Dreamweaver that allows me to change this behaviour?
    Mark

Is there a pref in Dreamweaver that allows me to change this behaviour?
No, but you can always select the text and use the bull's-eye icon to drag and drop on the filename, an even more intuitive way to make a link.

  • Dreamweaver CC automatically deletes code in code view and elements in design view

When I open a file in Dreamweaver, it automatically shows a * next to the filename - showing it has been edited.
Then often when I select some code in code view, or an element in design view (such as a table, an image, some text) it is suddenly deleted.
The problem is especially bad (happens without fail) if I am switching between programs. But also happens when I'm not switching.
I do not have this problem on a different user account.
I have reinstalled Dreamweaver three times now. Also renamed preference and configuration folders. Tried with a wired mouse and keyboard. Nothing has worked.
I can't think what I did to cause this. I installed MAMP recently - but have uninstalled it correctly I think.
I had an issue with one file in which there were about 30 Spry collapsible panels. I kept getting this warning:
"A script in file Macintosh HD:Applications:Adobe Dreamweaver CC:Configuration:Shared:Spry:DesignTime:EditingUtils.js has been running for a long time. Do you want to continue?"
I have to click 'yes' many times to get into the file, and the warning keeps coming up while the file is open.
However, my big issue of DW CC deleting code and elements happens whether or not this particular file is open.
So this may have nothing to do with it.
    Any ideas anyone?
Adobe's customer service has not helped. In fact, I have not even been able to get through to anyone on the phone - having waited literally hours listening to music, and getting shunted from person to person. And then their promised 'call backs' never happen.
    Thanks,
    - Greg
