Weird issue - NSObject in Interface Builder Version 2.5.6
I'm VERY new to cocoa, so I'm reading "Cocoa Programming for Mac OS X" to learn. At one point, it tells be to drag the NSObject from the library to the doc window. I'm running Interface Builder v 2.5.6 (I'm on Tiger), so I have "Palettes" instead of a Library which I'm guessing is the same thing. But I don't see NSObject anywhere!
I imagine this is something really obvious since I can't find anything on this online. The closest thing I found is NSObjectController, but I can't connect it to anything. What am I missing?
Thank you in advance for your help!

The only problem I have with that is this seems like basic functionality...not a feature that apple added in a later version.
No one said it was a feature. Being 'very new' to cocoa, this may be only the first round of such surprises you'll have until you move up (IB 3.2.1?) and find out for yourself.

I assume you have tried a Product > Clean then Build. -
as the title says when I click on the .xib on the left hand nothing happens I just get the iphone screen and checkered background no interface builder.
Interface Builder is no longer a separate application. All editing functions are now integrated into Xcode 4.

Load Class in Interface Builder 3
Hello,
i am trying to get started with Cocoa after having worked a while with Xcode & smaller AppleScript based projects.
As my idea was to create a menubar-based (NSStatusItem) service app for myself i started with this tutorial:
http://files.semaja2.net/NSStatusItem%20-%20ObjC.html
Unfortunaly it seems like there was a change in Interface Builder regarding loading Classes from Version 2 to IB version 3
The tutorial tells me to (about the middle of the tutorial):
Rename the “NSMenu1” to “StatusItem”, following this in “Interface Builder” >>choose from the menu “Classes > Read Files..” now select the AppController.h >>file, Once the file has been read it should change out project view to “Classes” >>from here find the AppController item and right click on it and select >>“Instantiate AppController”:
I was able to follow the tutorial until there without problems but it looks like the Classes-Tab is gone in IB 3.x.
So i feel somehow unable to finish this small tutorial.
how would i do this step in Interface Builder 3.x ?
Any help is heavily appreciated.
Best regards

You're right, this has changed. I'm currently using IB 3.1.1 but I believe the changes appeared in IB 3.
Once you've done the "Read class files" and selected your AppController.h file IB should know about your class.
In order to instantiate your AppController in IB first go to the Library window and find the "NSObject" (it will appear as a blue cube). Drag one of these NSObject's from the Library window and drop it into your MainMenu.xib window along with the other icons that appear there (File's Owner, First Responder, Application... etc).
Now you will have created an instance of an NSObject in your MainMenu.xib file. And, since your AppController class is a subclass of NSObject (and IB knows this since you've had it read in your AppController.h file) you can now change this NSObject instance into an instance of your AppController.
Select the NSObject icon in the MainMenu.xib window then go to IB's Inspector window and click on the next to last icon in the top tool bar. This should change the Inspector window's title bar to say "Object Identity" and the Class Identity in the first text field should be set to NSObject. You should be able to type "AppController" into this field (or click the popup and it should show up in the popup list. Once you've done this it will transform the NSObject instance into an AppController instance.
You'll see another slight difference between IB 3.x and the tutorial when you do the <Control>-Drag between items to connect up the outlets and actions. Instead of finalizing the connections in the Inspector window like the tutorial says you'll get a small popup window right next to the item you're connecting to that will list the available outlets/actions you can connect to. Simply click the one you want. You can still double-check your connections in the inspector window though.

Variables in BPS populating the template built using web interface builder
Hi All,
I have a issue :
I created some variables in bps0 (under a planning area) based on Fiscal Year, Fiscal Year/Period, Posting Period, Cal. Yr /Quarter and Version.
Then I created a template using the web interface builder .
The end user goes and puts the varaibels in the SEM template and that will run the BW queries in BW (ABAP code has been written to popluate the values entered in SEM tempalte in to BW variable screen).
Now the problem is it works well for all values other than for #(not assigned).
What should be done to make it work even for #?
We do not have # as the value in master data for all the above info objects. We have # only for 0version and for the rest I can't even see the master data as it says " master data is not maintained" .
when I come back and look in bps0 then I see that the values entered in the SEM template are getting accumulated in selection conditionds in bps0 (when we click on the variable then when we see the selection conditions there it is getting accumulated)
Can anyone please suggest a solution to make the # (not assigned) work and to clear the selection conditions table after refresh of the SEM template?
Thanks
SriHi
You should create a BEX Web Query and integrate it in the upper level of WEB Layout.

Take note of the permissions repairs and if those are extensive, it may indicate a general health issue. Repairing permissions should help if there are many files in need of repair. Try the repairs first - step-by-step.
Be sure that your OS install is 'normal', meaning do not move and/or rename basic folders/directories created when the OS is first installed.

What can I do ? Thank you very much!!!I found this on stack overflow.com and thought it would apply to this article discussion for some users even though I don't understand how to revert the version (through git?)
I think this is a compatibility issue. I think the .xib has moved to Xcode 4 (as shown by the line setenv IBC_MINIMUM_COMPATIBILITY_VERSION 4.2) which Xcode 3.2's version of ibtooldoes not understand.
I think you need to revert to a version of the .xib prior to the update to Xcode 4."" -
Interface builder freeze on compilation
I have never been able to get iPhone applications compiling on my Macbook Air.. Now I decided that I want to find out why.. So I have spent the most of the day trying some of the fixes suggested on the net. But nothing works.
I am trying to compile "WhichWayIsUp" demo, but once the .xib file starts compiling the process just hangs there.
Also if I try to open the .xib in Interface builder, interface builder gives me the spinning ball
I hope that some of you experts out there can help me out?
My crash log looks like this:

Start there to be sure all fonts that are in play come out with a clean bill of health.
Don't hesisate to perform wholesale deletion of old and/or little used fonts - be skeptical of anything that has come from Office 2008, including those related to an Equation Editor installation.
By all means be sure any 3rd party apps are Snow Leopard compatible.
You can help to focus the problem by creating another user account named testUser and seeing if the problem still occurs there - this will help to identify if the issue is particular to your original account or system wide.
You can try deleting these plist files (~yourUserName/Library/Preferences):
• com.apple.InterfaceBuilder3.LSSharedFileList.plist
• com.apple.InterfaceBuilder3.plist
If you still have issues, consider asking again on the developer forums...

Good luck in any case. -
Interface Builder Crash on Startup
Hi,
I have installed the latest XCode 3.2.1 and the iPhone SDK for the first time two weeks ago. Right after installation, the Interface Builder has begun coming up with at least one popup window "Assertion failure". Sometimes there are up to 10 popup windows. When i click on the first one to "continue", the others disappear and only one remains (guess that is a new failure then).
I have already uninstalled XCode, renamed Developer folder and reinstalled, but still the exact same problem.
I'll simply post the stacktrace of the first message:
Assertion Message: Interface Builder encountered an error communicating with the iPhone Simulator. If you choose to file a crash report or radar for this issue, please check Console.app for crash reports for "Interface Builder Cocoa Touch Tool" and include their content in your crash report.

Can you help me?
Thanks in Advance,
Manuel M.I've also had the same problem since updating to Snow Leopard. Actually, to be more specific, Interface Builder would sometimes hang completely but after killing it, I would then get the 4 (or more) Assertion failure dialog boxes. This sounds like what you're experiencing.
At the risk of passing along bad information, I did find this and it solved the problem for me: http://www.cocoabuilder.com/archive/message/xcode/2009/10/20/31402
I renamed the version of the file located in /usr/local/lib and now IB seems to be working.
If you decide to try this please make sure to just rename the file. Even if I was an expert at troubleshooting IB (which I'm not) there's no crash log here to look at so you might have a different problem. I don't want to suggest something and wreck your system further. -
[iPhone Beta 6] Problem with Interface Builder
I cannot open xib files created using beta 5 after updating to beta 6. The IB just hangs. Also, I tried to create new xib file, but when I browser the library view to see the component, the IB also hangs. Is anyone having the same problem?
ps: I uninstalled xcode and reinstalled it. No success.Am also having the same issue, even when launching IB3 without loading a file.
I get a crash loading IBCocoaTouchTool....

OSX 10.8.5 + Pro Tools 10: Very strange issues - Firewire audio interface
I'm facing weird issues on my new system.
When I received my new iMac, I firstly used Migration Assistant. It didn't work well so I did a clean install. I installed the Digi003 drivers first, then PT, then all the plugins. Everything is up to date. Interface and computer are connected with a Firewire 400/800 cable and a brand new Thunderbolt/Firewire adapter. The computer is used for music production only and the hard drive is almost empty (not much data).
I know the Digi003 works fine as I used it with my former iMac which was a Core2Duo 3gHz with 4Go RAM running OSX 10.6.8 and PT 10.0.0. I used to set the buffer size on 128 to record audio. It worked well.
THE PROBLEMS ARE:
1- DigiAudioCore does not auto-launch anymore. If want to play a song with VLC, I have to manually launch DigiAudioCore.
2- PT stops (-6086) if I record with the buffer size set on 128. Buffer size on 256 is the minimum and PT still bugs sometimes even if there is only one track and no plugins in a 44.1kHz / 24bits session.
3- CPU spikes too if I have just a couple of plugins engaged.
4- I did some tests with an RME Fireface 800 and a Motu 828 MKII and I got the same issues (-6101). I still have to do a test with an USB interface.
5- Sometimes the iMac bugs when I open the System Prefs but it works normally after a few seconds.
I don't know what are the causes but it seems that there is a bandwidth problem caused by Thunderbolt/Firewire connection. I tried a brand new FW800 cable between the Fireface 800 and the computer but I got the same issues. Maybe the hard drive???
So now I really need some help to solve once for all these problems. I hope I don't have a do a clean install again!!!
Thanks in advance.

Triple-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select it:
syslog -k Sender kernel -k Message CReq 'Channel t|GPU D|I/O|n Cause: -' | tail | open -ef
Copy the selected text to the Clipboard (command-C).
Launch the Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.

The command may take a noticeable amount of time to run. Wait for a new line ending in a dollar sign (“$”) to appear.
A TextEdit window will open with the output of the command. Normally the command will produce no output, and the window will be empty. If the TextEdit window (not the Terminal window) has anything in it, post it — the text, please, not a screenshot. The title of the TextEdit window doesn't matter, and you don't need to post that. -

Cannot open nib - The application Interface Builder quit unexpectedly
Just installed the iPhone SDK and installed sample code. The Interface Builder will not start. At startup, the following message is displayed: "The application Interface Builder quit unexpectedly."
I've tried the standard Xcode SDK and it has the same problem. I've repaired permissions on the disk, to no avail. I'm stumped on this. Thanks for any suggestions.
Here's the first section of the crash report, showing the builds for Interface builder and Mac OS X (10.5.6).

As I mentioned, I have repaired permissions on the drive to no avail. I have also read older posts on the web referring to various preference plist files but those don't exist with this build of xcode.
I have also had older builds of xcode on this mbp and worked thru a couple of tutorials. Interface Builder from those older builds worked. I'm not sure were to get them, now, and I doubt they would have the iphone sdk included. -
Weird Issue : Difference in HTML/excel output and pdf/rtf output--Urgent
Hi There,
I am facing a weird issue. I created one rtf template. When I preview the o/p in rtf or pdf, everything comes up as expected. When I preview the same in html or excel, few rows come up as bold though they were not supposed to. What could be the problem ?
This is extremly urgent as the users primarily use the excel or html as o/p.
Thanks in advance.
Regards,
SaurabhHi Brett,
I am using Oracle XML Publisher standalone (not with oracle apps). The version is 10.1.3.2 . The issue comes up while previewing as well as when the report is run from the XMLP server.
