Weird metadata problem in the "copyright" XMP field

Hey,
This is a really weird problem and I can't figure it out why it happens...
Along the years I create some metadata presets where the copyright field changes as the year changes. For instance:
© 2008 Ricardo Amaral, All Rights Reserved
© 2009 Ricardo Amaral, All Rights Reserved
However, some photos from 2008 had the copyright after the comma in lower case, like this: "© 2008 Ricardo Amaral, all rights reserved". Now, every time I try to change only 'a' to 'A' in "all", or only the 'r' to "R" in "rights" or the other 'r' in reserved or even all of them, it doesn't work. Lightroom, automatically, renames it back for me in lowercase. I have no idea why...
What's even more strange is that if I change the year to 2009 or 2007 (probably others too) and now try to rename the 'a', 'r' and 'r' to uppercase again, it works, just because I changed the year from "2008" to something else. There's also another strange issue like this, you probably noticed above that I used the copyright symbol and not "(c)" and the symbol is what I'm using in the metadata copyright field. But if I replace "©" by "(c)", leave the year at "2008" and then try once again to rename the 'a', 'r' and 'r' to uppercase, it now works too.
This is weird right?
Basically, I want to have this "© 2008 Ricardo Amaral, All Rights Reserved" but Lightroom automatically renames to "© 2008 Ricardo Amaral, all rights reserved" when I try to fix it.
Any suggestions?

Ok, I'll explaing what I did...
And of course I did backup the lrcat file before doing any changes. Now that's out of the way...
What tool did you use?
Since I didn't want to install anything and since I use Firefox, there's an extension called "SQLite Manager", I used that.
Was the tool read-only by default, or could you just start changing data values?
Not that I noticed no. But I did noticed that when I changed something, it always asked me if I really wanted to do those changes and it even shows the query it's about to perform to the database.
How did you determine which table held the relevant data? How did you determine which *rows* held the problem pictures? How did you actually change the value - just type over and tab out? Did you need to do a COMMIT or was it automatic?
I'm not very database savvy and I find easier to just search in a text editor so I just exported all tables (there's an option for that) as .sql file format and opened it up in a text editor and then searched (case sensitive) for the string "2008 Ricardo Amaral, all rights reserved". Now, you kinda need to understand a bit of the SQL syntax (the .sql exported file are just SQL instructions to insert the data you just exported into another database) and look for the relevant tables and fields.
I found 6 references to that string where 5 of those where in the table Adobe_AdditionalMetadata in the xmp field. Those were relevant to "Copyright" metadata field in the pictures added to the catalog. I didn't change those manually.
The other reference was in the table AgLibraryTag and I have no idea what this table is for. But there were some rows relevant to the metadata presets you have for that respective catalog. I only had 3, for 2004, 2008 and 2009 (dry season between 2004 and 2008 lol). There's two relevant fields on that table, lc_name and name. For the lc_name, all words were lower case and that's what I believe the lc in lc_name stands for, so, nothing to do here. As for the name field, both the 2004 and 2009 were all as they should be, with the first letter upper case, the others lower. But for the 2008, it was "all rights reserved" instead of "All Rights Reserved". So I just fixed that.
No need to save the database, when you do changes to any rows to any tables, they are directly modified in the database.
After that, I opened up Lightroom, selected the problematic pictures and aparently they were fixed; the copyright field showed correctly. However, the specific fields in Adobe_AdditionalMetadata for those pictures were not yet fixed. To fix this, I just saved the metadata to the files and then read it back; this rewrote the database fixing everything.
Did you have any problems?
Nope, everything's working fine so far...

  • Problem with the path of field  in process

    Hi,
    We have a problem about data/FSFIELD_ too.
    To create the form we have used a wsdl connection.
    And when we make a process we have :
    /process_data/demandeForm/object/data/xdp/datasets/data/FSFIELDS_
    So we can't acces to elments of the wsdl form.
    When we execute the process nothing happend, so we think it's normal because we don't have acces to elements.
    We have tried to change the path :
    /process_data/demandeForm/object//data/form1/Body/getRequestState/in0,
    using the xml schema of the form ( form1/Body/getRequestState/in0 )
    and we tried /process_data/demandeForm/object//data/in0
    but this solution doesn't work.
    (in0 is the field name).
    Have you any idea ? please

    In the situation where no schema exists the process variable has no concept of the structure of the xml data that is being used. Hence it uses the FSFIELDS_ node as a placeholder for the root node. So if you know the path starting from the root to get to the node that you want then you can create an expression (by typing it in) that looks like this:
    /process_data/demandeForm/object/data/xdp/datasets/data/FSFIELDS_/rootnode/next node/next node/target node
    Or you can use the XPath ability to search for the node by using a double slash. Th eexpression woul look like this:
    /process_data/demandeForm/object/data/xdp/datasets/data/FSFIELDS_//nodename

  • HT3964 For the past several months my MacBook Pro has been shutting down. I get horrible video with marks and striations acress the laptop screen and an additional monitor and the weird video problems until the multilingual notice comes up saying to shut

    I used two monitors, and several months ago the MacBook Pro started crashing frequently. It seems like it might be overheating. Sometimes the disks seems to race. I leave the computer on most of the time and it sleeps when I am away, but when I come back in the morning it will have colored striations across both screens, and soon the multilingual announcement comes up that I have to press and hold down the power key.
    Also, when using a progam like Skype video, the video goes insane frequently, with Skype windows freezing, video freezing, Skype window cutting in half, and eventually the computer crashing.
    It seems to be a video problem.
    What do I do?

    I would take some screen shots of the anomalies and take the MBP to an Apple store genius bar.  I you cannot reproduce the display problems, the screen shots will at least give them a start point for an analysis.

  • Read specific XMP field

    My clients rename the PDF files that I send them for review. So when they send one back as "Approved" I need to figure out which InDesign document created the PDF. I have created a JavaScript that saves the InDesign document name into a custom XMP field every time the document is saved.
    Now, to make this as easy as possible, I want to create a menu item in Acrobat that allows the user to select it and have Acrobat display a dialog box showing the value of the custom XMP field. I have read the documentation, but it isn't very clear.
    I know that I can call 'this.metadata' to return ALL of the metadata, but all I want is "xmp:InDesignDocumentName" which is in the name space "http://ns.adobe.com/xap/1.0/"
    Anyone have experience digging into the XMP record?
    James

    I can't find details in the documentation on how to access extended metadata properties via the "info" property.
    i.e. from the following RAW XMP data, I am trying to retrieve the xmp:InDesignFileName value, which is in the "http://ns.adobe.com/xap/1.0/" name space.
    Any Ideas?

  • XMP metadata is not accepting the copyright symbol

    While using the ModifyXMP method to append the metadata with some custom text data, it is found that, if the custom text data is having copyright symbol, metadata modification fails. Error can be caught as, 'Invalid UTF-8 sequence length'.
    How to have the copyright symbol added in the XMP metadata?

    Hi Patton,
       Could you try the following code to add dc:rights value (© adbe)
      char xmpStr[] = { 0xc2, 0xa9, 0x20, 'a', 'd', 'b', 'e', 0x00 };
       meta.SetProperty(kXMP_NS_DC, "rights", xmpStr, 0);

  • Problems with the "Date Created" Metadata in Adobe Bridge

    Hi everyone.
    I am currently working on an electronic photo library for our organization.  Part of my mandate is to add a Date Created metadata on all the photos since it is very important to know when the photo was taken.  Some photos were dated since 1980s.  Since we do not have the digital version of the old photos, we end up scanning these and, in effect the date specified on the "Date Created" was the date it was scanned.
    I have the date of some of the old photos when it was taken, but for some, I only have the month and the year (sometimes, just the year).  Inventing a day and a month is not an option.
    Is it possible to enter a month-year or just the year on the Date Created field under Metadata?
    I appreciate your help.
    Thanks,
    .m.u.r.d.o.c.h.

    The problem is that dates are recorded in the file in different schemas. Bridge is displaying the XMP Date Created field which was likely derived from the original Exif date (probably DateTimeOriginal, but may be DateTimeDigitized). This will be the date recorded in the file by the scanner software at the time it was scanned.
    The IPTC Date Created field is handled differently. It seems counterintuitive, but if you work in the news business you will know that news photographers often use the IPTC Date Created field more like a "date submitted" or "date scheduled" property, so that photos for a particular shoot which may have been captured over multiple days will sort together.  Because of this, most image browsers will not update the XMP Date Created (or Date Taken) fields when the IPTC Core date is changed.
    You can edit the original capture date in various programs, which should cause both the Exif and the XMP Date Created fields to be updated. Two that come to mind are Lightroom and BreezeBrowser Pro (for Windows).  I've found that with certain images it is necessary to use both programs to get all the dates to line up.

  • Metadata and ePub export and custom XMP fields...

    Hi,
    Does anyone know of a way to add metadata apart from the fields that
    already are available in the ePub export dialog and XMP panels? The
    iBookstore requires a bunch of stuff that I can't find any place to add.
    This trial script that I've put together does add an entry to the DC
    metadata (as you'll be able to see in the XMP panel), but it is not
    retained when the InDesign document is exported. (I believe that it was
    from Tomaxxi's website that I got quite a lot of help for the script.)
    If I don't get any answers here I'll take this over to the scripting forum.
    Thanks,
    Ariel
    PS I hope the following script comes through ok. I've got to post this
    via email, which often mangles things. Apologies in advance if that is
    the case.
    myDocXMP = app.activeDocument.metadataPreferences;
    destNamespace = "http://purl.org/dc/elements/1.1/";
    destContName = "ArielsContainer";
    destNodeName = "ArielsSpecialMetdataField";
    nodeValue = "Great ePub!" ;
    myDocXMP.createContainerItem(destNamespace, destContName, undefined,
    ContainerType.ALT);
    myDocXMP.setProperty(destNamespace, destContName+"[1]", nodeValue);

    Hi David,
    Right. I also suspect that ID is "hardwired" to export only specific
    categories of metadata. And even if I can add to the DC metadata, it
    still won't come through on export -- that's my guess. But maybe,
    hopefully, I'm wrong.
    The script that I posted does add metadata to the DC category (as can
    been seen under the Advanced tab of the XMP Panel). But it adds it in a
    slightly funny way (as an alt container, and not an alt-text container;
    there's no scripting option that I can see for creating alt-text
    containers, but, on the other hand, I don't know what the difference
    between the two types is). Also, it creates some sort of weird array
    (hence the ).
    In short, the script doesn't prove that ID won't export additional
    metadata if it's added in the right way.
    I wonder what you mean by "adding custom metadata" in a non-printing
    story? Also, if that ends up in a .xhtml file that's not so useful,
    because we need it to land up in the content.opf file to be of any use,
    I think?
    Again, I'm not sure what PRISM categories are. But I did actually
    download the XMP SDK at one point, though I never really explored it. If
    your extra metadata exported to PDF, would it export to ePub as well?
    Did you try exporting with CS4, even if not with CS5.5?
    Thanks,
    Ariel

  • Can I create a custom XMP panel but using the exact same fields from standard XMP panels?

    Hi,
    I am new to XMP and not very technical, so please excuse me if this sounds like a stupid question!
    I have managed to create my own custom panels for Photoshop using the Generic Panel method with my own custom fields and they work fine. However what I need to do now is create a custom panel that uses the exact same fields from some of the standard panels. The reason being is that I have 4 fields that need to be integrated into another non-adobe system (Extensis Portfolio) that recognizes standard XMP fields, but at present these 4 fields are spread across different standard panels and it would be much easier for the user in Photoshop if they were all together on one panel.
    An example field is the "Additional Model Info" field that currently resides on the standard IPTC Extension panel. If I fill in a value in this field on a JPEG then open the the image in Extensis Portfolio, then the field is also filled in in a field called IPTC - Model Info, displaying a key of Iptc4xmpExt:AddlModelInfo.
    Is there a way I can take this standard field and use it on a custom panel, so that it can still be filled in in Photoshop and the value viewed in Extensis Portfolio? Sure I can create a custom panel and create a field called "Additional Model Info" but I can't figure out how to connect it to the corresponding field in Portfolio. I tried changing the  xmp_property name="Iptc4xmpExt:AddlModelInfo" but this just broke the panel.
    Is what I am trying to do possible and if so how and can it be done using the Generic Panel method?
    Many thanks!

    I am trying to do the same thing but with only the IPTC Keywords field. Searching everywhere but no luck.
    Thanks!

  • Problems with the 'Comments' field in iTunes

    First, sorry for my english (I'm danish).
    I've read a lot of threads here and everywhere else, but can't find a solution for my exact problem. I use Windows Vista and the newest version of iTunes.
    Most of my mp3 songs (35.000) are put directly in album folders to the folder 'D:My Music from another computer via a USB drive and the songs already have id3 tag information on them.
    I then add the albums to iTunes and most of my tag information is now updated in iTunes. Names, Artists, Genre, Year, everything is okay. By the way the songs have ID3v2.3 tag information. I see that in my Mp3tag v.2.42 application.
    But the problem is with the 'Comments' field:
    Those tags (originally put to the songs directly in the proberties of the song in Windows Explorer) will simply not transfer to iTunes 'Comments' field. And if I write something in the iTunes 'Comments' field this will not show up in the fields properties in windows Explorer. It looks like the 'Comments' fields in iTunes and in the proberties in the song are not connected at all!?
    I then found out, I could let iTunes convert the ID3 codes, but nothing happens except from when using v. 1.0 or 1.1, because then the comments tag are transferres, but unfortunately all the tags will only show 30 characters!!!
    And there's also a different story:
    A few albums though are put directly on my computer by using iTunes to import the CD. These songs have ID3 v.2.2 tags, so I guess iTunes import files in that format?
    And here it's a little different story. If I put comment data directly to the file proberties in Windows Explorer (after the CD's been imported to iTunes), the comments will show up in iTunes, but only as several 0 and 1 digits! On the other hand, if I put information directly in iTunes 'Comments' field it wil show up correctly in the file proberties! But it's only a few songs/albums that are handled that way.
    Well, bottom's line, I want to see my comments tags (which are allready there in the song's proberties) when I browse my music in my folders in Windows Explorer and I want to see the exact same comments if I go to browse my music in iTunes. That should not be a problem ... but it is not ...
    Can I please get a solution or at least an explanation, and hopefully in not too tecnical terms.

    I, too, hope someone will answer this! I am hoping to catalog my entire CD collection in iTunes and I want to include the storage box number somehow, thinking that "comments" would be a good place to do so. If I cannot do that I'll try to find a program other than iTumes to do it. Does anyone have any suggestions on this topic? ...perhaps I need to open a new thread?
    THANKS!
    Doug
