Weird Pop-up

I recently downloaded the trial version of PDFPen and a nightly build of Songbird. Whenever I launch these apps, I get very Vista-esque pop-up confirming I actually want to run these programs:
+"PDFpen.app (or) Songbird.app” is an application which was downloaded from the Internet. Are you sure you want to open it?+
+Firefox.app downloaded this file on February 2, 2008.+
Then Cancel/Open as choices.
It happens both under the admin account and as a standard user. Clicking the help link just tells me to be sure this is the application I want to run, and there does not seem to be a choice in the system preferences to disable.
I understand the need to warn me once, but every single time?
Thanks,
Mike D.

I think there is a button on those disk mount images. And controlled by Disk Utility, that whenever a .dmg is downloaded from the internet, it alerts you... but not when running the program other than the first time.
Trying to prevent auto-run no doubt. I was on a web site by accident, through a link, and an .exe started downloading itself without prompt and only becuase the download window showed up. Not going to affect OS X, but still malicious.

  • Weird Pop-ups

I've been getting these weird pop ups that say they are Apple utilities such as time and software updater wanting to connect to my system. The graphics look real cute and Appleish but I'm worried it's someone trying to break into my Mac so I always select "Deny".
    What's this all about?

They are most likely legitimate requests because it is rare for hackers to attack Macs. However, if you are suspicious, you can check these from your end.
For Time, use the System Preferences Date & Time pref pane and check the Set date & time automatically:, and select your region (e.g., Apple Americas). If the time changes after doing this, it was probably a real notification from the OS that detected your clock was off when compared with time.apple.com’s clock.
For Software Updater, select Software Update from the Apple menu in the upper left corner of your screen. If it says there are updates available, again, the pop-ups were probably legitimate.

  • Authorization error in sm59 with a weird pop-up

    Hi
I want to use a server proxy, therefore created an http connection in sm59 of the xi-system pointing to the ERP-System.
    My connection parameters
    Target Host: my ERP-System Host
    path prefix: /sap/xi/engine?type=entry (maybe receiver?!)
Service Number: 8084 (http port in smicm)
    User: XIAPPLUSER (with sap_xi_appl_serv_user)
After testing the connection a pop-up appears and asks me to enter my username and password again...
How can I solve this problem???

    Hi Gokhan,
You need to do the following.
    In your XI system,
Make a HTTP connection to your Business system.
Target Host = Host name of Business System.
Service No: HTTP port no of Business System.
    path prefix = /sap/XI/engine/?type = receiver.
USer name and password of a CPIC user with SAP_ALL authorization.
    In your Business System
Target Host = Host name of XI System.
Service No: HTTP port no of XI System.
    path prefix = /sap/XI/engine/?type = entry.
USer name and password of a XIAPPLUSER with relevant roles attached while it was maintained in XI system.
    Cheers

  • Weird Pop-up since installing Lion

Since I installed Lion, I keep getting a pop-up that says "There was a Problem Connecting to the Server. URL's with this type "file:" are not supported."  What the heck does this mean and how do I make it go away

A search in these communities for URL's with this type "file:" brings up many hits. Peruse them.

  • Weird Pop-up window asking for password.

I have an iPhone 3gs (I know, I know...I'll upgrade soon!) and lately a window pops up (constantly) that asks for my password for a Yahoo account that I don't recognize...am I being "hacked"? - or at least is someone trying?
    Kind of freaking me out.

    Hi...here's what the pop-up says...
    Password Required
Enter the password for the CalDAV
    account "Yahoo!"
I have no idea what CalDav means...or what it's for....I have no association with CalDAV - I can't seem to get rid of it. I have looked under all my settings and can't find anything with this name....

  • Weird Pop-up Magnifier Randomly Appearing

    Hi,
Starting today, I've been having a strange problem when browsing the internet with a pop-up, magnified window appearing when I try to click things. This doesn't happen every time I click something, but often enough to become a annoyance. I tried to add an
image of it happening to give you an idea of what it looks like, but my TechNet account isn't verified yet so I am unable to do so. To give an example of when this happens, when I tried to click the check box to agree to the terms ad service for this website,
this magnified window appeared and I clicked the check box in this window instead. It also has happened when trying to click on a link that a friend of mine posted on Facebook. It struck me as odd that it only started happening today.
Does anybody know if there is a way to disable this? Any help would be much appreciated.

    Hi,
Firstly, please follow britishdhez's suggestion to use clean boot to check if this problem keep occures.
According to your description, in my opinion, this problem probably caused by 3rd program that enabled any hotkey which conflict with Winodws hot key. Please check if any software was installed before this problem occures.
Please check IE adds-on if there is any plugin enable that might cause this problem.
You can try to start IE with no adds-on mode for test.
Open Run, type iexplore -extoff, Press
    Enter.
If there is any progress, please feel free let me know.

  • Macbook changes background on it's own and then weird pop up

I have never had my macbook change the background on it's own before, until tonight. I wasn't even gone that long and it didn't totally shut down it just logged me out but when i logged back in the background was changed to a default one.
I went to system preferences to set it back but when I clicked on 'Desktop and Screensaver' I got a pop-up of a 'Terms and Conditions' by "Apple". So confused as to why that would pop up when I clicked desktop and screensaver, I had already opened other applications but it only popped up when I clicked that. I'm worried about a virus or trojan.   I don't think my macbook updated itself while I was gone but who knows...I didn't see any evidence of that and I have the setting to not update automatically. I'm worried, any advice? Thanks!

May not be a battery drained issue, but it does seem power related. Have you 1) calibrated your battery, 2) installed Battery Update 1.2?
If so, read this, which suggests that if you have done the above and your battery cannot power your MBP, you should contact AppleCare. FYI, they extended the warranty on MBP batteries to 2 years.

  • Weird pop sound after upgrading ram and harddrive

I randomly got the pop sound after I upgraded my mac mini core 2 duo to 320 gb 5400 rpm harddrive and 4 GB ram (2GBx2GB).
The sound is like a plastic click (similar sound when I the wireless mice hit the aluminum wireless keyboard) and it's quite loud.
Everything works fine except the pop sound ,Im a bit worried.
First I thought it was the hard drive problem so I copied the 3 GB music from the CD to the newly 320 GB internal HD with no problem at all ,no pop sound or click sound.
Do you have any idea where the sound come from?
    Please help

I will try to swap the 80Gb back .
If the clicking sound disappear then it's the HD.
No, that's not the best way to test it. Leaving the new drive in the system, try and copy a large file to or from it. What that will do is keep the drive busy for the duration of the file copy, and let you listen for the noise. If the noise continues while the copy is taking place, and particularly if it increases in frequency, it would suggest a problem with the drive that is not a simple matter of self-parking - in other words, would be suggestive of a faulty drive that you would likely be best not to trust at all (in fact return it).
If the sound disappears while the copy takes place, then it suggests the noise is the self-parking activity, in which case as much as the noise is odd and even disturbing, it wouldn't suggest a fault or any real indication of imminent failure.
It should be said that many drives used in early minis made the most alarming sounds, yet are still in regular use with no unusual failure rate. Indeed, one of the manufacturers concerned (Seagate) indicated at one point that over time the sounds would change and grow less prolific, which in my experienced turned out to be the case. In your situation therefore, I'd continue to use the drive, ensuring I had an adequate backup routine of course, and see what happens!

  • Weird Pop Up Logo When Receiving Mail

Everytime I download new mail in Apple Mail, I get this very bizarre pop up logo:
    http://www.flickr.com/photos/47844619@N05/4385719129/
(Let me know if that link doesn't work, I'm new to flickr.)
It just pops up everytime I get new mail. I'm not entirely sure how to make it go away.

    Leah,
Create a New User Account, and as that New User try to set up this one Gmail account. If not familiar with setting up a New User Account, see:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=Mac/10.5/en/8235.html
This will be a useful test, and is not meant to suggest a permanent switch to the New User Account, but rather a test of the Mail application outside of your normal User Account.

  • Weird popping/screeching sounds when using alche

I am using an audigy 4 with alchemy audigy edition latest version. And no matter what game I set it up for I always get this random popping and screeching noises. Few games I've tried are Oblivion, Battle for Middle Earth 2, city of heroes. It almost sounds like hard dri've access. But that would be really strange because it only happens if I enable alchemy. Just wonder if anyone else has had this issue, its driving me up the wall. I've tried all sets of drivers the ones posted in this forum and official and none of them make a difference.

i saw on another forum that installing beta drivers for nvidia cards may work. i switched back to XP and still have issues... it appears to be a conflict with nvidia and creative when it comes to games. go figure!

  • Weird pop up after installing new drive.

I just changed my internal hard drive on my iMac G5. I migrated my content from my old drive, to an external...and then from my external to the new drive, using Super Duper. Now everytime I boot up my computer this screen pops up
    http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v653/mywhitenoise/Picture2-1.png
Is there an easy way to get rid of this?

    mywhitenoise:
I, too, use Camino, but have never seen a file like that. It seems primarily related to reporting issues. I don't know how it got where it is. If your Camino is performing normally, I am aware of no reason why you may not delete it. I don't think you need to remove or reinstall Camino, unless you are experiencing issues.

  • Weird one of those "allow" pop-up for less than a second, keeps coming up periodically....what is this?!

I am getting a weird pop up, it happens after i log in and then periodically as i am on my computer. Not at any time in particular, happens as I am surfing the web or using applications like iphoto. Its one of the pop ups that would come up to allow something, but its only up for maybe half a second, i can just make out the yellow caution sign that shows up on the allow pop ups for things. I tried downloading a virus software for mac and checking for viruses but couldnt find any. A bit stumped as to what this could be?
Any suggestions or thoughts are appreciated.

Yes it occurs when I am not using a browser, although I am not sure entirely if safari was quit or not however it has occured even when I don't have one open
I only have the one account, I just put the login on because I won't be using my computer all summer. So other than the guest account there is just my main one, and from what I remember it began happening before I did this
I have not tried booting in safe mode...although it would be hard to tell because I never know when it is going to pop up
