Weird Slow Connectivity Problem

Hi guys
We are facing a slow connection problem and we cant seem to find an answer
as to whats happening.
Our application has
1. An app server hosting EJBs , datasources etc
2. A webserver on different box hosting servlets and command classes.
3.A Sql server 7 database on a different box.
All these boxes are on a secured network ; which means that access to them
is given on a requirement basis.
We have JSPs on the web box which get a datasource connection from the app
box to run queries against the database server. Our problem is that even to
run a very simple query ; it takes a long long time (in order of minutes)
and the same query runs lightening fast in the test environment where all
the boxes are on the same network.
We use type 4 SQL driver. We initially thought that this could be a network
problem as it doesnt make sense that the same query runs very fast on the
test boxes. But the network settings seem ok.
The network settings are this way :
Appserver box has access to database server box.
Webserver box has access to Appserver box.
So you can see that webserver doesnt have direct access to database
server. Is it needed to run queries ; since I am taking a connection from the
appserver. How does the whole business of running queries work when I take a
connection from a datasource on an app server.
I had this question posted to the BEA weblogic customer support ; but they
really couldnt help me.
Any ideas would be appreciated.
Thanks
Pankaj Vij

This has many possible troubleshooting paths. You don't mention if this is a workgroup or domain based Windows network. Checking the "Directory Access" settings as appropriate may yield the solution.
If this is a domain/active directory network the issue may lay with the machine account on the domain server.
Create a new user account on the Mac and see if the problem follows when you log in to that account and try to access the SMB share.
If the problem goes away, then you should look at the original user's startup items to see what might be launching at startup or simply move all files to the new user and delete the old account (not the preferred method).
If the problem persists with a second user on the same machine, then I'd take another Mac, boot it to target disk mode (laptop is good for this), using a firewire cable, boot the troublesome mac to the target mac and try to replicate the issue.
If issue persists, this is a network permissions issue on the server, if it goes away it is a local software issue on the Mac and a clean install of the OS may be needed if you can't locate the meddlesome settings/software.

  • Weird ethernet connection problem

    Hello
I have a really weird connection problem. I am not a complete beginner but I just don't see what's going on.
I just had BT infinity 4 installed with the modem placed in a closet. I then had cat6 cables installed by an electrician between the closet and the different rooms, all wall sockets on each end.
Test1: If I connect to the BT Home Hub wirelessly it works.
Test2: If I connect to the BT Home Hub via ethernet directly to the device it works.
Test3: If I connect to the BT Home Hub via ethernet through the wall sockets directly it works.
Test4: If I connect a switch (a DLink DGS-1210) to the wall sockets and I connect through the switch I do not get connectivity. I can however access the switch's web interface or other computers connected to the switch. But I cannot connect to 192.168.1.254 for instance.
Test5: if I connect one switch to each end of the wall socket, I can access the web interface of the other switch through one switch.
Test6: if I connect a switch directly to the BT Home Hub, and I connect through the switch it doesn't work.
The switch test the cables which are fine, I see no collision in the switch port monitoring, and I have the same problem with all sockets. So I do not think that the wiring of the electrician itself is a problem (otherwise Test3 & Test5 would fail).
This gives me the feeling that the BT Home Hub (BT Home Hub 5) is the cause of my worries but I can't think of a logical explaination of why the Home Hub would behave differently whether it's connected directly rather than through a switch. Also these are rather high-end switches, which have always worked very well and I do not believe that both would fail simultaneously.
    Has anyone experienced anything similar?
    thanks
    Charles

The switch by any chance has not got some form of dhcp set up. Maybe allocating ip addresses to devices on your network as well as the home hub. I had similar issue when I had connected a linksys ata onto my network, rather than use the socket labeled network I used the one labeled ethernet.

I hope someone has a solution. Thanks

I have had this same issue for probably two months now. Ever since I upgraded to iTunes 8 I have not been able to get on the iTunes store. The progress bar will go half way and then stop. Sometimes it will take me to a page on the iTunes store, but it will be in html or text format with no pictures. It takes at least five minutes for it to open one of those pages. I have run diagnostics and I get the same results as you; everything is successful. I have also flushed the dns settings and disabled all virus protection. Absolutely nothing works. Are you getting the pages that I described above or an error message at all?
    Thanks

  • Weird Internet Connection Problem

I did a couple of mac updates yesterday (itunes, system stability update, quicktime, safari 4, ect. I am using 10.5.7 Leopard)
Now my internet is extremely slow. I have tried everything from resetting the router to fooling around with the network settings on the laptop..no luck
Then I stumbled upon a thread on this forum that says a quick "repair disk permissions" might fix the problem.... and it did, but only until I restart os x then back to slow speeds....
So as it stands now every time I restart I have to run repair disk permissions if I want my internet to work properly.
How do I make the repair permanent ?
    Thanks!!

Type this into Safari's url bar...
    17.254.3.183
if it gets you to Apple, then I think your ISP is having DNS problems, so might try putting these in Network>TCP/IP>DNS Servers:
    208.67.222.222
    208.67.220.220
Try Safari Menu Empty Caches too, if that doesn't help.

  • WRT320n + WUSB600n = slow connection problem

    Hello,
I have problem with my speed connection. Router is really close (1 meter) to adapter. When I use wirelles connection I can get maximum speed of around 59Mbps. When I connect my computer to router via cable I get around 110Mbps.
I tried default  configuration and also this one with I have found on this forum:
    Wireless Band : 2.4GHz
    Network Mode : Mixed
Network Name : Provide a unique Network name
Channel Width : 20 mhz only
    Channel          : 11...
    SSID Broadcast : Enable...
Nothing changed still maximum wireless speed is 59Mbps.
    I have newest drivers installed.
Please help me to find some solution.
    Thank you
    Chris

I was using MAC filter and now i have changed to WPA2 ( router password is also changed).
It is 12:02 AM. From two minutes my internet connection speed become faster from 60 to 120 Mbps. 5 minutes ago everything was fine router was working with around 59Mbps but when internet speed have changed to 120Mbps router speed dropped to around 30 / 40 Mbps.
So problem exist only on wireless connection - between 12am to 12 pm when my internet speed is 120Mbps instead of 60 Mbps during the day.
    What can be a reason?
    Regards

  • Slow connection problem with the PS3

Okay so I have a WRT54G,v5 wireless router...
For some reason, I find my router in the ps3 scanning, put the WEP in, and let it automatically pick all the IPs and stuff... but once it connects, my connection is extremely slow (I have a 10mb cable connection, so when I do a speedtest for example I get around 10000kbps, while I get around 2500kbps when I do the same speedtest on my PS3.)
I'm really out of ideas, as i've tried doing absolutely everything to getting it to go through, but for some reason it just won't clear.
Am I doing something wrong? and if so, is there any way to fix it? It's getting kind of frustrating because it takes about an hour to download a 600mb demo, while it should only take about 15~ mins with my connection, maybe even less.
Any help would be appreciated, maybe manually adding the numbers myself? (even though I have no idea how this is done...)
    Thanks for your time.

The PS3 browser and Playstation Network is sluggish so don't think it's your router. Everyone on the Playstation Underground forum have the same complaint which hopefully Sony will address soon in a future firmware update. It doesn't matter if your wired or wireless you still get the same sluggish issues. You can make all the modifications to your router and still the same issue will be there. Trust me I have a WRT300N router and did everything that I could to push as much speed as I can to the PS3 and little has changed.

  • Weird 8i connect problems

I've just installed 8i on a new RedHat 6.0 system (with all
RedHat patches) and other than the known problems of 0-byte
libraries and missing dmbssml.sql file, I'm having a very strange
problem with outside connections to the database.
I'm using JDBC from other machines, and using the JDBC classes
included with the 8i installation, Java apps will connect to the
database successfully twice, then fail twice, then succeed twice,
then fail twice, and so on.
Trying to connect to 8i from my other Linux box with 805SE
installed using sqlplus causes sqlplus to Segfault and leave a
    core file.
    null

I dont use JDBC so I dont know about the JDBC problems, but I
have tried to connect from another Linux box with 850SE and
sqlplus segfaulted, just like you expereienced. Also connecting
from the 8i box to 805SE sqlplus just hangs. Same behaviour with
    imp/exp.
These are some of the dozens of problems reported by others here.
I am going back to 805SE after wasting alot of energy with 8i.
However, making 805SE work with RedHat 6.0 is proving to be
a trying experience. It worked fine with RedHat 5.2. I did
read the README and applied all the necessary patches and
installed the compat RPMS. But I do admit that I gave up a
little too early. I'll try again later tonight.
I have been severely burnt by the current release of 8i for
Linux. Therefore do feel the need to vent my steam whenever I
see others running into the same problems as I and finding no
    solutions.

  • Slow connection problems

My iPhone 4 takes forever to connect to safari, Facebook or updating apps.  Any help appreciated

Hi there, although I am new to this forum I have been a loyal customer for over 20yrs taking all new products, ie Telephone, Broadband, Line Rental, I have recommending 8 people to date my parents being the latest and still cannot claim. I even telephoned last week to get the details on how we did this and got told it didn't matter if my parents had taken an offer made to them!!I am sorry if this reply has taken over this feed, but all other feeds on this complaint have either been archived or removed. Isn't it time that people understood that not everyone is computer literate, not everyone knows how to use these forums and not everyone understands how these things work.So instead of the moderators sending sarcasm when someone ask's a valid question, perhaps they could remember that all the feeds containing this complaint are unavailable to post on. It may not be relevant to You, but it may be relevant to others, my Mother 75yrs tried to ask a question and was rudely put down.  What is this world coming too, I really thought that these forums were for help and in 20+ years I have never come across such negativity

  • E2000: Weird "Limited Connectivity" Problem

Everytime I put my computer on "Stand By" for a few days, then try to access the Internet when I log back on it says "Limitied Connectivity." I'm constantly having to unplug then replug in my router to access the Internet. I'm just wondering if anyone here would have any ideas as to what may be causing this and how to fix it. Thanks in advance.

Is your computer wireless or wired to the router?
I think your computer is not getting IP address when it log back on.
Check the power management settings on your computer for the wired or wireless adapter. I think there is an option not to turn off the adapter when the computer is in sleep mode.

  • WRT320N - very slow connection

WARNING! never buy a Linksys router. i have a Linksys WRT320N and i have so much problems, it is very slow and every two days i have to reset. the latest firmware are from 2011. aparentley they dont care about there costumors.

Hi! Are you encountering the problem thru the wired and wireless connection? If you are directly connected to the modem, is your connection ok? For the slow connection problem, it if it's thru the wireless connection, the wireless settings can be changed like set a unique name for both the 5Ghz and 2.4Ghz networks, changed the channel to 1,3,6, and 9, and set the security to plain WPA2 Personal. For the wired connection problem, you can change the MTU size to 1472(DSL connection) and1365(Cable Connection.

  • Slow connection - Cable modem

All the topics discussing slow connection problems seem to include wireless equipment. I use an ordinary cable connection with external modem & 5Mb per second service from my cable company.
About a week ago, surfing different websites became extremely slow.
Loading this page to begin typing my thread took about 20 seconds. The status bar will go to about 30-40% immediately then hang for about 15-20 seconds before fully loading the page. Same with all websites no matter the time of day. The speedcheck gives numbers for downloads - 4.63 and 536.59 for uploads. Clearly, the modem is doing its job.
I emptied the history, cleared cookies but that's all my limited experience allows me to do on my own. Any ideas?

When you used one of the speedtest websites to check throughput, was that before or after clearing the browser's cache? Some bandwidth test sites (most of them, I think) store the results in the browser's cache, and if you forget to clear the cache before re-running the test, you can be temporarily dazzled by the immense increase in throughput! The "4.63" for downloads was Mbps, right? And this problem started in the last week or so, with performance before then being acceptable?
In System Preferences> Network, under the TCP/IP tab, do you have explicit DNS server IP numbers entered or is the box left blank? Since you're getting partial page loads before stalling, I don't think it's a cse of an ISP telling users to enter explicit IP DNS numbers, then changing their DNS servers without notice (that happened to me), but if you do have explicit DNS numbers in that box, note the numbers then try clearing the box to see if that makes a difference (a blank DNS server box pushes DNS request back to the ISP's servers, which should always respond with up-to-date server links).
Another unlikely-but-possible scenario (which also happened to me) is if your ISP changed their cable modem server hardware (e.g. from DOCSIS 1.0 to DOCSIS 2.0) without bothering to notify their customers. That caused random disconnects and inexplicable stalls seemingly at random when my ISP pulled that stunt. Calls to the ISP's national support center were no help; a chance remark by s counter worker while in the brick-and-mortar local cable company office elicited information about the change. That you bought a brand-new modem suggests your modem should be fully compliant with any current server hardware. However, there are known to be some incompatible and worse some partially-compatible modem brands that don't work properly under OS X --- even different model numbers in the same modem family (e.g. Motorola Surfboard) make a difference.
What manufacturer and model cable modem are you using? Try calling your cable company's local office and ask them when make/model modems are they handing out to new customers who rent their modems, also ask if the local people are aware of any recent server hardware or local cabling changes (they haven't been tearing up your street to install FiOS, have they?). The ISP's support website should have a list, which should also be available from the local cable office, of modem manufactures/brands that they've approved as compatible; while that list is invariably Windows-centric, it's still a good idea to stick to those makes and models.
If the ISP has tweaked things recently, you may be able to use the modem you already have by tweaking the MTU (maximum transmission unit) value from the usual value of 1500 to say 1420. You can do that manually in System Preferences> Network> Show: Built-in Ethernet> Ethernet tab --> Configure: manually (advanced) and changing the Maximum Packet Size (MTU) value.
IE is a dog under any conditions; try using Firefox instead as an independent check on Safari. There have been the usual reports of some users having problems with the new 2.0 release of Firefox (and others reporting wonderful things about it); you can try the stable 1.5.0.8 release from Mozilla's Firefox releases archive.

  • My computer is running very slow, how can I tell if it is a internet connection problem or my computer?

I have a mac 10.5.8 and it has been very slow lately. I often get the rainbow wheel when using it and recently I have had to restart the computer alot because it seems to freeze. The only other open program besides Safari is the finder which i cant seems to ever shut off. I'm not sure if this is an interent connection problem or if my mac needs servicing.

Please begin using 25 Ways to Speed Up Your Mac  you will almost certainly find the cause there. The first place I'd look though is how much RAM your system has, if you never upgraded it that could be the problem. Macs ship with a minimum amount of RAM so it's possible a simple RAM upgrade would help. Use the article though and methodically go through the suggestions.

One possibility is that you may need to "Upgrade" your Cable /DSL Modem if you have an older unit.  ISP's that provide your Internet service in recent years have been switching over from DOCSIS 2.1 version Modems to DOCSIS 3.0 version Modems, which handle the new higher data streaming speeds the ISP's are offering.  I would suggest you call your ISP's Technical Support and inquire about this possibility.
