Well this is certainly a hot forum!!!

But anyways, has anybody tried to get Java Pet Store running on port 80- rather than port 8000?
What I'm sure of:
With this configuration-
Linux 7.2
j2sdkee1.3.1
either j2skd1.4.0_01 or jdk1.3.1_04
petstore1.3.1
I can run it just fine with the original port 8000. If I change to port 80 ($J2EE_HOME/config/web.properties, per $J2EE_HOME/doc/release/ConfigGuide.html), and restart the server, I get:java.net.ConnectException: Connection refused
java.security.PrivilegedActionException: javax.servlet.ServletException:

at org.apache.jsp.sidebar$jsp._jspService(sidebar$jsp.java:356)What happens is that the sidebar (which has to access the database) doesn't show up, though the rest of the main page does.
I think that one time I got it to run on port 80, after first running it on port 8000, but I haven't been able to duplicate that, so now I'm not sure. I also thought I had it working on port 80, after installing on Windows XP Pro (I haven't tried to duplicate that again, as yet).
I've tried fresh installs of both J2EE and Pet Store, building from scratch, etc., without success. It appears that some kind of security constraint is being violated.

I'm starting both cloudscape and j2ee with root, this
isn't enough? Uh, it should have been.
The page's graphics are getting served, just not
access to the cloudscape db, this indicates that j2ee
is running on port 80, but the connection from j2ee
(JDBC) to cloudscape on port 1099 is getting
permission denied, should i move cloudscape's port to
below 1024 too?.Ah, you didn't mention that the first time. In this case, I'd lay a bet on thomasfly's reply. You can try moving the port, but it's just a SWAG[1].

If you are going to reformat the hard drive, wiping out all data on the computer, there is no need to uninstall.  Deactivation is enough.

  • How do I get up the 'Well this is embarassing' page again so I can restore certain tabs?

I opened Firefox hoping that my previous tabs would come up. I got the 'Well this is embarrassing' page and quit it without thinking. I now realise you can choose to restore some of these tabs so I would like to return to this page but don't know how to get it back.
If I can't get the page back then I'd also like to know how to go to my history and select numerous pages to be opened in separate tabs. Currently I have to do this by opening a tab, going to yesterday's history and double clicking it to open which causes the window to disappear whilst the page is opening. I then have to open a new tab, go back to the history and then select another page. I would like to make multiple selections in this list and then have them open in separate tabs, rather than this drawn out process of opening them one by one in new tabs.

If you want that page then type about:sessionrestore in the location bar.
Firefox 4 and later versions save the previous session automatically, so there is no longer need for the dialog asking if you want to save the current session.<br />
Use "File > Exit" or "Firefox > Exit" (Mac: "Firefox > Quit Firefox") if you want to restore multiple windows.<br />
You can use "History > Restore Previous Session" to get the previous session at any time.<br />
You may need to click the orange/gray Firefox button to see History.<br />
There is also a "Restore Previous Session" button on the default <b>about:home</b> Home page.<br />

After opening certain websites, pogo, firefox 4.0.1 closes with no error message. When I restore the session I get: Well, this is embarrassing. Firefox is having trouble recovering your windows and tabs. This is usually caused by a recently opened web page.
I have had this problem before and had to reinstall an earlier version of firefox.
The error console has a long list of errors, many of them end with: does not implement nsIObserver. Is there a way to send the information on the error console to firefox support?
Redownloading Firefox 4.0 will fix my problem until I either close firefox or turn off my computer. The problem recurs when I open firefox again.

  • Please fix your web plugin immediately, yes this message in the right forum

    Ok.
On my mac, java takes about 5-10 seconds to load in a web page applet from either safari or chrome.
This is 4.9 to 9.9 seconds too long.
PC is a bit faster but not much.
Sun absolutely wrecked java with respect to the web-client.
    Please fix this.
Why: Because I want to write web-apps which don't suck. Which means I can't use javascript. Because despite the gajillions of money poured into marketing, it is really very, very slow.
    How to fix:
    It is very easy.
    1. Use PhoneME with JIT. (get startup time to near zero). You might say, "well, we're about to get java to have zero startup time." But this is what you have been saying for ever, and failing at, miserably! Stop trying, give us a JavaME plugin instead.
    2. Do NOT distribute monolithic massive class libraries. Instead, give me the opportunity to create class loaders. (I know you think you already do, but please look up the 10 year old bugs regarding the web plugin and class loaders). Make the distributable as SMALL as possible.
    3. Are you writing the pluginin "in-between" code in webkit? If you are, fire who ever is writing it. If you aren't, WTF, the connection between the browser and java is slow as a slug. If I was just a bit more of a cynic I would think google is putting in usleep(1000) between calls. Take this code over NOW.
Look, you STILL have a tremendous opportunity in the web-client-space.
You need to show that Java is BETTER than javascript. Which it could be.
    But currently it sucks.
It uses too much memory, it has a slow startup time, the connection between javascript and java is slow.
I should be able to write <script type="jar.pack.gz/java" src="blahblah.jar.pack.gz"></script> and multiply my performance by a thousand. Please do it.
I should be able to use a java2javascript library to simplify modifying the dom.
I shouldn't have to write javascript, except for inline code.
BUT INSTEAD I'M SPENDING MY TIME OPTIMIZING GWT.
Javascript sucks, we all know it is rising because of a vacuum of any real performance.
Please fill this void, or someone else will.
    Thanks,
    -tim

  • Will this drive be too hot?

hi, i am about to purchase a new harddrive for my 12" G4 ibook. i have my eye on this one:
    http://eshop.macsales.com/Catalog_Item.cfm?ID=7900&Item=HIT13G1591
the 100 GB version. does anyone have any ideas on how well this drive would perform in my computer? will it produce too much heat for my small ibook?
    thanks a lot.
    iBook G4 1.2, Power Mac G4 466   Mac OS X (10.4.2)

I agree with Duane. The drive looks good and it has the 3 year warranty. (and it will not get too hot) Some of the cheaper made drives park the read/write head right on the cylinders. These drives only have a 1 year warranty. The 3 and 5 year warranty drives are better made and park the read/write head off of the drive when the drive is idle. This saves your drive from failure especially on a laptop.

  • I turn on my computer, click on the Firefox icon on my desktop, the web browser appears but the same screen always appears and says, "Well this is embarrassing" and says the problem is due to a previously opened tab.

I am online everyday. I turn on my computer and click on the Firefox icon. A web browser appears but not with my Yahoo! homepage. Instead of seeing my Yahoo! homepage I see a screen that says, "Well this is embarrassing." I read that the problem is due to a recently opened tab. It gives me the options of either restoring all previously used tabs from the last time of use or starting a new session. If I choose to restore previous tabs, I am further given the option to select which tabs I want restored and which ones I don't want to restore. I always choose to start a new session because all previous tabs consist of work that I have completed in the past (whether it be yesterday or the day before). I, therefore, have no interest in restoring a tab that contained an article about our current economic situation for example. As previously stated, I choose to start a new session every time I receive the "Well this is embarrassing" error message. When I choose this option, I am brought to a fresh tab with no information regarding work, articles, or entertainment from yesterday or some time in the past. I wish to have an explanation as to why this happens. I do not go on any malicious web sites or anything of the sort. This happens every single day. The automatic error message that appears is "Well this is embarrassing." For Firefox to say "Well this is embarrassing" is not close to the response it should give.

  • How do I clear the "Well this is embarising" screen? It will not let me run the program and I have deleated the program just to reload it and get same screen!

The screen that says, "Well this is embarrassing" and asks to either remove a tab or start a new session, which I cannot do neither. I have deleted the program several times and when I reload it the same screen comes up and the program freezes. Task manager is the only way to remove it from my screen. I need to find the location of that screen and delete it.

It is possible that there is a problem with the files sessionstore.js and sessionstore.bak in the Firefox Profile Folder.
Delete the sessionstore.js file and possible sessionstore-##.js files with a number and sessionstore.bak in the Firefox Profile Folder.

  • Firefox 18.0 running on Mac 10.6.8: Error message "Well, this is embarrassing."

My computer recently upgraded to Firefox 18.0, and since then Firefox has been usable. With every link, I get a revolving, multi-colored wheel and, eventually, the following error message:
    Well, this is embarrassing.
Firefox is having trouble recovering your windows and tabs. This is usually caused by a recently opened web page.
    You can try:
Removing one or more tabs that you think may be causing the problem
Starting an entirely new browsing session
I can't figure out how to fix the problem. Does anyone have a suggestion? Thanks.

I started the same problem after upgrading to firefox 20 and I use no
extensions. It happens everytime I start up. I tried safe mode - no good.
I am not sure what to do next. I am a senior citizen and I would love
a reliable answer that is not in "techlish"

  • When will the "Well, this is embarrassing..." problem going to be fixed? A lot of folks are having the problem. Do I need to just switch back to Safari?

When I log onto Moz., get an error message starting with, Well this is embarrassing... I don't have any clue what to do about it except to switch to a browser that is working.

I upgraded to FF Ver 20.0 a couple of months ago, and that is when this "Well, this is embarrassing" nonsense started. I've been using Firefox for many years on my several Mac computers, and it is only with this LAST upgrade that I have been getting this "error" message every time I start Firefox. YES, I have figured out how to avoid this problem by simply making sure that the particular window I want to START with is on the screen before I click the "Quit Firefox" tab under the "Firefox" word on the top menu. BUT HAVING TO DO THAT EVERY TIME I CLOSE FIREFOX IS NONSENSICAL !! Why do I have to do that now, when I've never had to do that before? It makes no sense. To avoid desktop clutter, I have always closed the open Firefox windows on the screen, but leave Firefox running in the background; then, when I want to get back on the internet an hour later and re-open Firefox (as I have done thousands of times in the past), now I get that nonsensical "Well, this is embarrassing" message again. It is extremely irritating, and totally unnecessary.
MOZILLA/FIREFOX Team ---- whatever you did, you must FIX this irritating problem which so MANY of us faithful Firefox users are now facing.

  • This only happens in Technet forums.......

I know this forum is not for product support.
However since this issue is applicable only when I am posting in TechNet forums and I cannot get a solution in Win 10 TP forum, I figure I'll take a shot here.
    My problem:
I cannot post "live" links in TechNet forums.
By 'live" links, I mean links that one can click at and open to the destination.
For years, I use copy/paste links and it works all the time, until 9926 installed, I cannot do so anymore. I have to use Insert hyper link option.
    Example :
    using copy/paste, I get this...........
    https://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/newthread?category=usingforums&forum=reportabug
using hyper link, I get this.........
    https://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/newthread?category=usingforums&forum=reportabug
*** repeat, this only happens in TechNet forums. Copy/paste works ok in other forums using the same build 9926 ***

When opening the web site I get a message "Well, this is embarrassing. Firefox is having trouble recovering your windows and tabs. This is usually caused by a recently opened web page.
    You can try:
    * Removing one or more tabs that you think may be causing the problem.

I have started a new session and can open the session at my e-mail. The Yahoo e-mail is opened but after 30 seconds it closes down the session and returns to Windows opening page.
There is no problem if the new session starts on to any other website.

Are you closing Firefox before shutting down your PC? <br />
If you are getting that message all the time, my guess is that Firefox isn't completely closed when you do shut your PC down.
