What about reporting?
We're thinking of switching from a Forms/Reports environment to JDeveloper, but what do you need to create reports with JDeveloper?
We want to build a webapplication as well as a client (ADF/Swing) application and we need to be able to build reports for both type of applications.
XML Publisher is likely to be Oracle Reports successor in the same way that ADF Faces is to Oracle Forms. Probably a fairly bold statement to make, however after using Oracle Reports for years I can see the design parallels between it and XML Publisher and the writing is on the wall. Maybe some of the product specialists could give a direction statement?
The problem I had with using Reports is deployment. To deploy an ADF Faces application that references either Reports or Forms you will need a 10.1.2 Application server which also needs a infrastructure tier including an OID. The subsequent releases of 10g Application server (10.1.3 >) do not include Forms or Reports. The last project i installed a 10.1.3 application server and deployed the ADF Faces application with the XML Publisher libraries included, very simple.

Here is the difference in Open Items and Cleared Items.
In FI first the document is Open (when it is posted) so the entry is made in table BSID. Once the document is cleared, it will move from BSID to BSAD. And for Cleared item you will see Clearing Document no and Clearing date values updated (these are blank when the item is open).
The only difference in Open and Cleared is via Clearing Document and Clearing Date. If the values are present, it means document is cleared.

When I try to open a recent document I get the following message "You need a newer version of Pages to open this document." I have downloaded version Pages version 5.2.2 and the app store confirms this (and won't let me download it again), but my Pages About reports that I am using 4.3
Here is the solution that I received from the chat line.
When you update applications like Pages it usually keeps both versions on the computer. So what most likely happened is it didn’t put the new version on your dock. So to fix this, open a finder window. And go into applications which should be listed on the left. Scroll down and you will see Pages listed in here. And the icon should look different. You can drag that icon down onto your dock.Open that and you then can access your documents -

What is Report layout?
Hi Ajay,
The information shown on line item reports (SAP describes them as list displays) can be controlled using a report Layout. A Report Layout specifies the sequence of line items should be shown on and their positioning on the list etc.
Cost centre line item reports are one of the more commonly used list displays but vendor, customer and general ledger line item reports are also list displays.

Rajneesh .Report Category are used in reports with an LDB, usually PNP. Basically it's the configuration for the selection screen when the report is called. Among the choices you have which fields should appear on the first page, if sorting is allowed, etc, all sort of configuration.
How to see.
You can take one example, for example RPCALP0 (portuguese version, just substitute P0 with the version you use). Go to transaction SE38 and exhibit the report. Then yoy must select GOTO-->ATTRIBUTES and on the bottom tray there is a button that reads "HR report category". Just click that and on the next popup click Report Category again. So you have an example there of report category __M00001.
To create it's the same way, when you EDIT a report and click on report category the next popup has a create button.
The second question about authorization, it's quite simple, you can either use standard objects of authorization (like P_ORG for example), or your own Z objects. The sintax in ABAP is :
AUTHORITY-CHECK OBJECT 'Z_AREA_SUB'
ID 'PERSA' FIELD w_werks
ID 'BTRTL' FIELD w_btrtl.
if sy-subrc <> 0.
CONTINUE.
endif.
This is an example for a Z object to read authorization for WERKS and BTRTL of an employee. -

When you are working in the SAP System, you may want to access information from the database. To do this, you use reports.
In this documentation, report refers to the report program, and list refers to the output u2013 that is, the results of the report.
Some reports display information; others allow you to perform analyses.
A report must be started, or executed. In many cases, the SAP System automatically executes a report. Sometimes, however, you will want to execute a report yourself.
In addition to report programs, the SAP System provides numerous reporting tools, each of which has its own set of procedures for executing report programs.
This documentation describes report programs only. For an introduction to the SAP reporting tools, refer to the Reporting Made Easy guidebooks (Release 4.0B). You can find these guidebooks at: www.saplabs.com/rme
In ABAP, there are a total of 7 types of reports. They are:
Classical
Interactive
Logical Database
ABAP query
ALV Reports (ALV stands for ABAP List Viewer)
Report Writer/Report Painter Views (There are different types of views also)

These are the most simple reports. Programmers learn this one first. It is just an output of data using the Write statement inside a loop.
Classical reports are normal reports. These reports are not having any sub reports. IT IS HAVING ONLY ONE SCREEN/LIST FOR OUTPUT.
Events In Classical Reports.
INTIALIZATION: This event triggers before selection screen display.
AT-SELECTION-SCREEN: This event triggers after proccesing user input still selection screen is in active mode.
START OF SELECTION: Start of selection screen triggers after proceesing selection screen.
END-OF-SELECTION : It is for Logical Database Reporting.
[Edit section] Interactive Reports
As the name suggests, the user can Interact with the report. We can have a drill down into the report data. For example, Column one of the report displays the material numbers, and the user feels that he needs some more specific data about the vendor for that material, he can HIDE that data under those material numbers.
And when the user clicks the material number, another report (actually sub report/secondary list) which displays the vendor details will be displayed.
We can have a basic list (number starts from 0) and 20 secondary lists (1 to 21).
Events associated with Interactive Reports are:
AT LINE-SELECTION
AT USER-COMMAND
AT PF<key>
TOP-OF-PAGE DURING LINE-SELECTION.
HIDE statement holds the data to be displayed in the secondary list.
sy-lisel : contains data of the selected line.
sy-lsind : contains the level of report (from 0 to 21)
Interactive Report Events:
AT LINE-SELECTION : This Event triggers when we double click a line on the list, when the event is triggered a new sublist is going to be generated. Under this event what ever the statements that are been return will be displayed on newly generated sublist.
AT PFn: For predefined function keys...
AT USER-COMMAND : It provides user functions keys.
TOP-OF-PAGE DURING LINE-SELECTION :top of page event for secondary list.

Logical database is another tool for ABAP reports. Using LDB we can provide extra features for ABAP reports.
While using LDB there is no need for us to declare Parameters.
Selection-screen as they will be generated automatically.
We have to use the statement NODES in ABAP report.
If there are many tables the Performance will be slow as all the table data will be read from top node to bottom node .

ABAP query is another tool for ABAP. It provides efficency for ABAP reports. These reports are very accurate.
Transaction Code : SQ01
The advantage with ABAP QUERY is logic required for classic & interactive reports system design automatically 80%.
For ABAP QUERY handle these

SQ02 : INFOSET OR FUNCTIONAL AREA
SQ03: USER GROUP.

Key Concept :
Super users and end users can use Report Painter/Report Writer tools to write their own reports.
Giving them the ability to report on additional fields at their discretion shifts the report maintenance burden to them, saving SAP support groups time and effort normally spent creating and maintaining the reports.
Instead of using ABAP code to write a report in FI and CO, many users build a Report Painter/ Report Writer library using transaction MC27.
However, this workaround has some drawbacks. Little known transaction GRCT solves these problems in most cases, and eliminates the need to use transaction MC27.
ABAP Report Types
ABAP report types are those ones available in some report's attributes screen, i.e. :
Executable program
Function group (containing function modules)
Include
Interface pool
Class pool
Module pool
Subroutine pool
Also ALV means ABAP List Viewer. Most convenient way to use it is through reuse library (cf. transaction se83) available from release 4.6 of SAP R/3.
ALV is available in two modes: list and grid. List mode is good old list processing with standard functionnalities, and grid mode is using a new OCX object displaying grids.

Audiobooks are currently a one-time only download. If it didn't download correctly then try the 'report a problem' link from your purchase history : log into your account on your computer's iTunes via Store > View My Account and you should then see a Purchase History section with a 'see all' link to the right of it ; click on that and you should see a list of your purchases ; find that audiobook and use the 'Report a Problem' link.

What about "Extend application" in 1.6?

Gents, may be I completely stupid,
but where is old pretty link "Extend application" in 1.6?
Some explanation. I need to extend my old application, written in 1.5.1 environment. To do this, I need to add new page and more, than one pairs "Report-Form" on this page.
But in 1.6 I found only "Add page" or "Add page with component", with "Add page with component" I could add only one report with form. But where is "Add component on existing page" functionality? In help system I found NEVER about this way to exten application.
I don't understand, how I can do this primitive thing, as add component on existing page.
Idea with manual building all additional pairs, with first creation report, then page with form, then manual linking - is bogus IMHO. Another idea - with downgrade back to 1.5.1 is no better.
May be, somebody flush child with water? Or I really stupid guy?
So, question of the day - how to add component (exactly "Report-Form" pair) onto existing page in new, cool and powerfool 1.6?Once more penny:
What about group edit operations? In 1.5 (on Edit page) was link "Edit", for simple group editiong/resequencing. In 1.6 is absent. When I have more, than 10-12 items/buttons etc. on page and if I need change every item, I spend much time to do that individually.
Also will be better to have "copy" possibility for processes and computations. For me will be usable group copy. For example, if I need to copy some elements from one existing page to another: region, contains items and buttons, the single way to do that - copy every needful element one by one. -

We are searching for a tool to set monitoring and set alerts for Oracle and SQLServer Databases, as per what I've found seems that Audit Vault is a nice option...
however I would like to know opinions from people who already implemented this technology...
Has this tool helped as much as you expected from the security/auditing perspective?
What about performance on the databases you needed to audit?

Alvaro.We've implemented Audit Vault and I can tell you it's not trivial. It's a resource hog and it has full of holes. The custom report is not very good either. We probably going to ditch this solution in favor of a 3rd party tool. Looks like your requirement is to audit both Oracle and SQL server so there are tools out there you should take a look at. We have several type of databases here but only need to audit Oracle. A tool we eventually settle on is from Blue Core Research called Core Audit. It's working out well for us so far. Unfortunately, they don't have SQL server but they said they will soon.
