What current executing SQL when Package is in flight

I know I can use the SQL_ID in V$SESSION to identify the SQL statement that each session in V$SESSION is running. But what if the session is running a PLSQL block that includes many SQL statements. How can I tell which SQL statement it is currently on?
For example I run procedure PERFORM_ETL which runs this:
BEGIN
insert into table1 select * from table 2;
merge into table3 using blah blah blah;
delete table4;
END;
How can I determine if the session is doing the insert, the merge or the delete?
The SQL_ID in v$session only points to the perform_etl proc

Usually your problem can be described with 'Who cares'. I mean, for what reason do you do this? I doubt that there's a business need to get 100 % accurate answers for this. Normally such things are used to get a picture about the growth of data.
Personally I would prefer to have up-to-date statistics for all tables and just query the number of rows from there. Sufficient for me in < 99 % of all cases.
Just my $ .02...

  • What is native sql when i use native sql

    what is native sql & when i use native sql plz give with me example

    I imagine you mean Native Dynamic SQL, NDS. An example would be:
    EXECUTE IMMEDIATE 'select count(*) from ' || v_tablename INTO v_count;
    i.e. you construct the SQL "dynamically" as a string and then execute it.
    You would use it in situations where you could not know the precise query when building the code - e.g. as above, if you don't know which table to count the rows from until run time.

    Hi PSULionRP,
    First make sure the color of the Precedence Constraint is green (Success) or blue (Completion) other than red (Failure). Then, make sure the Execute SQL Task is not disabled (right click the executable, and “Disable” option is available in the right-click

  • SSIS Package Load Failure and is missing Execute SQL Task in Toolbox

    Also, BIDS closes after right-clicking the toolbox and selecting “Choose Items”.
    I’ve tried several ways to fix these issues with no success.
    I’m running SSIS/SSMS/SQL Server 2008 R2 (but not running an SQL instance on my PC) on a Windows XP with Service Pack 3 workstation. I get the following errors:
    WHEN OPENING BIDS:
    I get 2 errors titled “Package Load Failure”. They both reference ‘Visual Studio Explorers and Designers Package’ as being what failed to load. The first message references GUID 8D8529D3-625D-4496-8354-3DAD630ECC1B. The second references GUID AA612177-A69A-4391-B2F4-17F8A88F4BBA
    . They both mention contacting the package vendor, but I haven’t got any Add-ins loaded so I’m not sure what that means exactly. They also both ask if I’d like to skip loading the package in the future.
    ONCE BIDS IS OPEN:
    No error messages appear here. There is no ‘Execute SQL Task’ in the toolbox for Control Flows. Also, if I attempt to open a project containing this object (Execute SQL Task), I get this error in a modal window:
    TITLE: Microsoft Visual Studio

    The package might be corrupted.

    Finally, when I attempt to add the Execute SQL Task via the Tools menu, “Choose Toolbox Items” selection, I do get the tabbed box for adding things. However, they only come up after issuing this error:
    The following assemblies are installed SDK assemblies but could not be shown in the customize toolbox dialog because they are missing one or more components. Please make sure that all necessary libraries are available:
    Microsoft.SqlServer.SqlCEDest.dll

    Microsoft.SqlServer.SQLTask.dll
    System.Data.SqlServerCe.dll
    Microsoft.Synchronization.Data.SqlServerCe.dll
    (above dll repeated at bottom of message)
    After this message, I have my choice of .NET Framework Compnents. When I select COM Components, those come up with no problem. The WPF Components tab generates the same dll error above. The Maintenance tab is empty. The SSIS Data Flow Items tab loads fine,
    as does the SSIS Control Flow Items tab – but there’s no Execute SQL Task there either.
    If you open the toolbox (on a new project, with a project loaded, or without a project loaded) and right-click, then select “Choose Items”, the entire application quickly closes. This “closing behavior” is the same thing you get if you attempt to add toolbox
    items through either the Tools menu or the right-click method when you launch BIDS in SafeMode.
    In an effort to fix this – I’ve rolled back the .NET Framework version to 3.0 and reinstalled back up to 4; I’ve uninstalled and reinstalled SQL Server 2008 R2 shared services as well as the entire application; I’ve cleared the .tbd files from my user profile;
    and I’ve run several things from the command line (devenv.exe /resetuserdata, /setup, /resetskippkgs, etc.). Lastly – I’ve applied every Service Pack and update applicable to my PC (ok, it belongs to my employer – but no one here has been able to figure this
    out either).
    After having worked this for several days now and, I think, exhausting every available avenue from search engines – I turn to you. Please let me know if you can help. Also, I can provide any additional

  • What is the diffrence between package javax.sql and java.sql

    Is javax designed for J2EE?
    And when to use package javax?

    Hi,
    What is the diffrence between package javax.sql and java.sql?The JDBC 2.0 & above API is comprised of two packages:
    1.The java.sql package and
    2.The javax.sql package.
    java.sql provides features mostly related to client
    side database functionalities where as the javax.sql
    package, which adds server-side capabilities.
    You automatically get both packages when you download the JavaTM 2 Platform, Standard Edition, Version 1.4 (J2SETM) or the JavaTM 2, Platform Enterprise Edition, Version 1.3 (J2EETM).
    For further information on this please visit our website at http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.3/docs/guide/jdbc/index.html

    Hi Sadeeq,
    Based on your description and the error message, it should be a timeout issue when the ADO .NET Source connects to the source database. So, please refer to the following two suggestions:
    Double click on the ADO .NET Connection Manager, click the All tab, and set the “Connect Timeout” property to a bigger value. By default, it is 15 seconds.
    Increase the DefaultBufferSize value of the Data Flow Task. By default, the DefaultBufferSize is 10 (MB), you can increase it to a value that is less than 100 (MB).

  • Combining package configuration and Execute SQL task at run time

    Hi everyone,
    I have an issue regarding setting values at run time
    I use package configuration to manage different enviroments scenarios (DEV, PROD):
    XML file to store the connections string of SSISConfigDB
    and the actual values of parameters in that SSISConfig DB tables Filtered by ConfigurationFilter column
    Now, one of my packages needs in addition setting at run time value of a flat file name
    i used an Execute SQL task - within the task i read into a variable the file name using command line
    then, the full path of Flat File Connection is set by expression concatenating the root folder and the variable
    the problem is that the variable stays empy! as if the Execute SQL task was never executed!
     Am i doing something incorrect? in the package configuration wizard the configured value are only XML file and the connection string of the DB.
    to summerize - how can i combine package configuration, default value, Execute SQL task and expression at runtime?

    1.EvaluateasExpression=TRUE (Full Path variable)
    2. Do you mean to invlole a ISNULL() function in the expression? if so, no
    3. Of course i recieve a valid value
    4. The Full path expression is evaluated to the root folder - without the portion of the file name
    here is the syntax in Execute SQL Task:
      truncate table OnErrorFlagTable
      Declare @Path varchar(128)
      Declare @FileName varchar(128)
      Declare @SenderID varchar(5)
      Declare @INST_COD varchar(5)
      Declare @Flag int = 0
     Declare @FileType varchar(2)='01'
      Truncate table TraumaRecords
    Select @Path = 'C:\RootFolder\'
     --***Insert into Temp table the file so we can take his name***--
    Create Table #Tmp(Txt Varchar(Max))
    Insert Into #Tmp(Txt)
    Exec master..xp_cmdshell 'Dir *.txt C:\RootFolder\/b'
    select top 1 @Filename = Txt From #Tmp
    Where ISNUMERIC(substring(Txt,1,1))=1
    order by Txt desc
    Insert into OnErrorFlagTable
    Select 2,@FileName
    Select @FileName as TraumaFileName,@FileType as FileType
    Then, in ResultSet TraumaFileName and FileType are mapped
    Expression of @TraumaFlatfileFullPath is
    @[User::TraumaFlatfilePath]+ @[User::TraumaFlatFileName]
    where the variable @[User::TraumaFlatfilePath] is evaluated in variable window (default value)
    and it's value is C:\RootFolder\
    and @[User::TraumaFlatFileName] is the ResultSet of the ExecuteSQLTask
    and for some reason when executed in SSIS return null while in SSMS return the expected value
    Can you try making this into a procedure with required parameters and call it from SQL task to see if you get return value correctly? Use OUTPUT parameters for getting back required values

  • Execute SQL Task fails when specific column names are mentioned in Excel Query

    Hi,
    I have a requirement for extracting Excel data with thespecific column order. So instead of using the below query,
    Select * From [Sheet1$A1:ZZ1]
    I use the below one,
    Select col1,
    col2,
    col91
    From [CRM$A1:ZZ1]
    So I have totally 91 columns.
    I don't face any issues when i use the before query. i.e. direct select * from sheet1
    But when i specify column names and do a select from the sheet it throws error as below,
    [Execute SQL Task] Error: Executing the query "Select
    [Col1]
    From [Sheet1$..." failed with the following error: "No value given for one or more required parameters.". Possible failure reasons: Problems with the query, "ResultSet" property not set correctly, parameters not
    set correctly, or connection not established correctly.
    I just need to retrieve the column name alone and not any of the values to it. So when i do simple select * it gives the column names in the order of what it is been with the excel. But i do want it to be sorted in alphabetically and to retrieve the column
    names.
    I am not getting any proper solution for this for past 1 and a half days. May anyone of you please help me get it sorted? - Thank you!

  • Execute the SSIS packages (2008 version) using SQL job 2008

    We need to execute the SSIS packages (2008 version) using SQL job Please help with details information how to execute it.
    1.Protection level of the SSIS packages.
    2.Configuration File (Curently using XML file)
    3.Please provide details how to create Credential (Windows User etc)  Do we need to create windows cred explicitly to run the Job etc..
    4.Please provide details for creating Proxy.
    5.How can we configure the xml file since the xml is reading from local box but when the package is moved from developement box to production box
    then the local drive might not be mapped with Production box .
    6.Roles that need to be tagged for the Proxy/Credential.
    7.Which is the best and safest way to execute ssis packages either msdb deployment or filesystem deployment and other necessary details.

    Hi,
    If you want to Execute your SSIS package using SQL job then best solution is to first deploy your Package
    either using msdb deployment or filesystem deployment.The simplest approach to deployment is probably to deploy to the file system.
    So, here is the deployment steps;
    There are four steps in the package deployment process:
        The first optional step is optional and involves creating package
    configurations that update properties of package elements at run time. The configurations are automatically included when you deploy the packages.
        The second step is to build the Integration Services project to create a package deployment utility. The deployment utility for the project contains the packages that you want to deploy
        The third step is to copy the deployment folder that was created when you built the Integration Services project to the target computer.
        The fourth step is to run, on the target computer, the Package Installation Wizard to install the packages to the file system or to an instance of SQL Server.
    you can use below link also;
    http://bharath-msbi.blogspot.in/2012/04/step-by-step-ssis-package-deployment.html
    After that you need to Schedule package using SQL Agent then  Have a look at the following link. It explains how to create an SQL job that can execute an SSIS package on a scheduled basis.
    http://www.mssqltips.com/sqlservertutorial/220/scheduling-ssis-packages-with-sql-server-agent/
    Deployment in msdb deployment or filesystem deployment has there own merits and demerits.
    For security point of view msdb deployment is good.
     it provides Benefits from database security, roles and Agent interaction
    Protection Level;
    In SQL Server Data Tools (SSDT), open the Integration Services project that contains the package.
    Open the package in the SSIS designer.
    If the Properties window does not show the properties of the package, click the design surface.
    In the Properties window, in the Security group, select the appropriate value for the
    ProtectionLevel property.
    If you select a protection level that requires a password, enter the password as the value of the
    PackagePassword property.
    On the File menu, select Save Selected Items to save the modified package.
    SSIS Provide different Protection levels;
        DontSaveSensitive
        EncryptSensitiveWithUserKey
        EncryptSensitiveWithPassword
        EncryptAllWithPassword
        EncryptAllWithUserKey
        ServerStorage
