What do you guys suggest for playing guitar thru my Macbook Air? I use guitar pro software to learn tabs but I would like to be able to play along thru the computer. thanks
I used to play my guitar thru my PC using a line 6 Guitar port, Then I could play along with Guitar Pro tabs or MP3's. Now I have the Guitar Pro software on my Mac Air and I neeed an interface (which I can get at the Appple store- guitar plug to USB) but I neeed a suggestion for what software to run as an amp simulator, maybe line 6 is the best or maybe there are others I should check out. I know there are guitar "apps" for Ipads etc but this is a Mac. BTW I did not like the guitar sounds produced by Garageband. Thanks
I'm using GJABB with Logic Express 7.2.3 and have no problems.
However, I haven't started messing around with the modulation wheel yet which is pretty important in this libary since it controls volume. The sounds are great, though. I've just raised the mod wheel on each track to get the basic arrangement done, then I'll try the mod wheel for expression.
One thing about this library is that it pretty much forces you to do single horn lines since each patch is monophonic (like the real instrument). It does produce pretty nice results that way. I haven't tried upping the polyphony as I like the results this way.

What do you guys suggest I do?
I just receieved a call from my local Apple store in regard to my Ultimate MBP arrival (2.16 + 7200RPM). But at the same time my online order is also arriving on Monday the latest (I might be able to pick it up at local Fedex location on Saturday). Now my dilemma is that, I was told by the Apple store manager that online order especially 2.16 can not be exchange at the store due to a different serial number. Where, online order would have a serial number with CTO on it, while store order does not.
So, my question is, should I get the unit from the Apple store for any exchange/return convenience if there is any problem with my unit AND return the online order? If I return the online order, I believe there is a restocking fee? What if it's never opened?
OR, should I just keep my online order and forget the Apple store unit.
Also, the manager also suggested me to purchase the Apple store unit and leave it unopen, and if there is any problem with my online order, perhaps I can return it (I believe I can with CTO order)?
ThanksMy understanding is that CTOs are NOT returnable - period. If defective - that unit will be repaired. There may be some additional consideration given the new model introductions - the operative word is MAY.
My best guess is that you own the on-line order. You might refuse delivery and plead your case to Apple but.........?
In reverse roles I would probably accept the on-line order - if it works great. If not, I'd plead for a full refund and try to find one from another source.

I'm trying to figure out how to get QuickTime movies (taken with a video camera) off my pc and onto my iPad2. I can watch the movies on my pc using QT. I bought QT Pro and installed on my PC to convert the files to a format that iPad supports (like mpeg4). I converting the files to mpeg4 but they didnt play on iPad. Do I need a different video player on iPad than the default video player? Do I need to do something else on the iTunes side?

Did you have buggy Mavericks issue after installing on Macbook Air Mid 2012?
Before I have upgraded my OS X Mountain Lion 10.8.3 to Mavericks 10.9 it runs so smoothly and no issues or hanging that I encounter. But just this morning when I installed Mavericks, I have the following issues:
1.) When I was adding a book(pdf and epud files) in iBook, the Finder malfunctioned, coz when I browse the books to it's location so I can add some more again, the Sidebar icons disappeared and only the names left. And when I go to the location of the files using Finder, the content is nowhere to be found, just a symbol on the window’s status bar that it is loading or busy on something.
2.) When I go to the Launchpad, when I scroll to left and right to find the apps I’m looking using the touchpad, it's not as smooth as before. It tends to halt on sliding to the other groups of apps, seems like there’s a friction stopping it from sliding smoothly all the way to the next group of apps.
3.) Updating the Apps from App Store seems cumbersome like the iPhoto and iMovie, coz when the internet fails or drops its signal for a while or so, you go back and download everything again, and when you hover the mouse to see the progress of the downloaded app, it shows for example 22mb of 1gb then shifted to 300mb of 1gb then back to 22mb of 1gb then back again. It’s not accurate and going berserk.
4.) And I don't know if it is just me, but the screen profile have changed a bit coz the red color of the Power Point icon seem too red and everything that has a hint of red color seems exaggerated, it’s too bright red. I'm just not sure it might be the GUI style of the Mavericks. . .
Anyway, have any of you experienced these kinds of issues on your Macbook Air Mid 2012?
Hopefully this could be fixed and Apple would seed an update in no time.Even on my MacBook Pro Haswell (2013) 15 inch retina with a GT 750 2gb.
The Things in Mavericks that really make me :
1. The Launchpad is buggy when i scroll to the left or right... sometimes it doesn't even respond at all.
2. Safari and Other Apps Like AppStore freez sometimes, and i need to force quit everytime, because its not responding.
3. Bootcamp Windows 8.1 <---- NOT 8 Support (Bad Keyboard- Facetime camera- drivers,
Icons (brightness, sound) are ugly on retina screen) + GPU Drivers i can't update (maybe that's normal).
4. iTunes is very SLOW when Scrolling the Albums (i know its 2880x1800 and that's heavy for GPU) But it's just not a good 'Experience'.
5. Gaming its realy good on this MacBook, but please make the drivers better, i know this GT 750 GPU can do better. -
Is it possible to have two (or more) different icloud mail accounts (not alias) under the same apple id? If not what is you best advice for all family members to have their own e-mail and still share the purchases under the same apple id. Thanks

There should be no issues. Its designed to work like that. You don't change Apple IDs just because you get a new device.

If you buy an App, you have 2 ways to get it to the iPhone6: If Automatic Downloads is enabled in Settings->iTunes & App Store, it will automatically download to the iPhone 6 when you buy it on the 5 and vice versa if you buy it on the 6, it will download to the 5.
Alternatively, you can simply go to the App Store App->Updates->Purchased and look for the App there and download it. Purchased Apps will not require payment again. i.e They'll be free to download to the iPhone 6 once purchased.
SMS Messages will sync over using Continuity as long as they are on the same Wifi network. Otherwise, restoring the iPhone 5 backup to the iPhone 6 will transfer all messages received up until the backup was made onto the iPhone 6.

What security products are suggested for scrubbing rootkits from a Mac? There are good articles on similar repairs for other makes online. I would like to investigate whether a machine can be truly scrubbed or if it's best to retire it. I haven't done anything yet as it is a candidate for more extensive forensic recovery.

A straightforward question. You are correct in recognizing the difference between tentative conclusion and certainty. Here are our main reasons:
1. Incoming items noted on the console (or console sub logs) and Activity Monitor after defenses are overcome, and which are brought in by an unwelcome remote user, often have a process name and the word "kit." (Bear with me.) We soon observe the process is under attack, from terminal evidence and soon, decreased or lost functionality of the process. The terminal generally reports alteration of specific kernel behaviors. A simple example (that may or may not be accompanied by kernel changes and may simply alter permissions) is modifying Disk Utility such that key uses are unavailable. You can see how an attacker might value disabling partition views, mounting and permission repair. In retrospect, DU might not be a root alteration. I was thinking that its relation to fsck flagged it as a possible ring 0 item. I may need to know core parameters of a good example to pick strong ones.
2. Incoming folders hidden for possible later use contained bundles of similar root kits, including some not applicable to Macs. From what I have read from reasonably credible sources, root kits are sold and traded both singly and in bundles.
3. Root kits are a logical next choice for our attackers, as various prior techniques hindered us but did not paralyze us.
4. One of the most authoritative articles I found was about PCs not Macs. I noted the assertion, undocumented, that an estimated one million computers are infected by root kit manipulations, and underscored that the kits can be used by people with low computer skills.
5. MacAfee lists root kits (by description, not name) as a top pop five threat prediction in the coming year, though again, the emphasis is on PCs.
Linc, I am trying to show a spectrum of observations and info that have shaped my thinking. To retrieve better captured evidence requires significant legwork at this time, but it is something I am willing to do if you can be patient. Understand this long attack has been like a natural disaster to us.

We recieved the new guid update it terrible. it's a pail blue with white text, a smaller text size , and it stayson screen for 3 seconds you couldn't read it if you could see it w/the white on light color. do you guys ever look at demmographics the largest sement of population are baby boomers , hello has anyone heard of age related blindness or at least decline. the old info bar stayed on longer so you had a chance to read it and the font size was large enough, and color contrast allowed me to read from the next room now you have to be on top of the tv. and keep hitting the button to read it. are you guys trying to give people another reason to leave if so you're doing a darn good job!I agree 100%. This is absolutely ridiculous. Bring back the old format, if this is the best you can do. This extremely difficult to read.

Takes SO LONG to re-render when editing - What do you guys do?
Tonight I was working on a minute-and-a-half promotion video for a NewSong concert I am promoting this coming weekend.
I used LiveType for all my text... Say I have a ten second LiveType file that I am using. I decide I want to change something - I click "open in editor" and whala, LiveType opens and I make my change, click save, go back to FCP and the change is made.
However, even with dynamic rendering on, it is still nearly impossible to see just how exact one's timings are etc. so I have to render the LiveType section of the sequence. Sometimes this can take up to 20 minutes, but usually around 6-10 minutes. Still, that is a lot of time for me to sit back and watch my computer work.
What do you guys do to speed up your project creation time as it relates to rendering and being able to see how your timing of edits look etc.

Is the single core a 3800+ or something else? If it is a 3800+ then you must take into consideration that the single core stock speed is 2.4GHz and a 300MHz isn't that much of an OC for it. X2 3800+ on the other hand is 2.0GHz and 2.7GHz is 700MHz OC, a much larger difference and harder to accomplish than on a single core. In fact there were plenty of people with an X2 4200+ 2.4GHz that could barely reach 2.7GHz stable. Tell him about it Jeff.
Oh my yes...the opty 180 (dual core 2.4 GHz) I had frustrated me to no end. Very good chip mind you. Great memory controller...in fact ran 4 gigs very well, but couldn't push past 2.7 with any stability at all. Honestly, I finally gave in and backed it down to around 2.5. Not very exciting, and I tried for weeks and weeks in every configuration imaginable. Annoyed the heck out of these guys...I am sure. But they were patient and I was and am grateful for what I learned. Put an Opty 185(dual core 2.6 GHz) and pushed 3.0 GHz and more on stock voltages and still held onto the 4 gigs...even though the board because of the stress the 4 gigs puts on the memory controller, natively underclocks the ddr400 to 333 it runs 24/7 prime95 stable at ddr374. Very good memory controller in this Opteron 185. It just depends on you, the chip, and the luck of the draw.

I would like to take a iTunes play list and put it on a USB drive for my car radio to stay in my car. Is there a way to do this through iTunes so you have all the song info and there's no number in front of the name of the song? Is there a program?
iTunes only syncs to Apple devices.
Assuming the media is not DRM protected, any of the media can be dragged and dropped from iTunes onto other drives (external, flash, etc) as the user chooses. -
