What does an image of a closed lock on top of image of bar with line of dots on macbook pro window mean?

What does an image of a closed lock over an image of a bar with a line of dots on a macbook pro screen mean?

It's a bit hard to say wthout seeing it, it might by YDB Syndrome, the plague that was first described, documented and named by eminent and white-coated InDesign specialist Claudia McCue here.  Another fix for that is to try making the background colour process or RGB, not a Pantone Spot Colour.  If that doesn't work you could try posting a screenshot on this forum, use the camera tool on the web interface to upload a previously saved screenshot.

  • What is the latest Mac OS X that I can run on my 2.33 GHZ Core 2 Duo Macbook Pro?

My MBP was running the fan almost constantly and otherwise acting odd so I decided to just refresh the installation from scratch. At that time I was running Lion 10.7.5. Before rebuilding everything with that version I want to make sure running Lion on this machine isn't contributing to my issue.
What is the latest Mac OS X that I can run on my 2.33 GHZ Core 2 Duo Macbook Pro?
I have every OS release since the original purchase so I can rebuild on the one that's most stable on this laptop.

You can run Mt. Lion if you so wish:
    http://www.apple.com/osx/specs/
If you want the most efficient OS, I would suggest Snow Leopard.
However I suggest doing some investigation prior to installing a new OS.  First do a SMC reset:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht3964
Also run an Apple Hardware Test.  Use the #2 disk on your original install disk.
If there is no improvement, post back.
    Ciao.

  • Can I move my iWeb from mac-mini to my new macbook pro ? iLife 11 does not have iWeb and I really want to use it to update my website on my new macbook Pro instead of Mac mini

Can I move my iWeb from mac-mini to my new macbook pro ? iLife 11 does not have iWeb and I really want to use it to update my website on my new macbook Pro instead of Mac mini

There is no license required for iWeb.  Just do a Wyodor suggested and you'll be ready to go. If you're running Lion however, consider the following:
In Lion the Library folder is now invisible. To make it permanently visible enter the following in the Terminal application window: chflags nohidden ~/Library and hit the Enter button - 10.7: Un-hide the User Library folder.
To open your domain file in Lion or to switch between multiple domain files Cyclosaurus has provided us with the following script that you can make into an Applescript application with Script Editor. Open Script Editor, copy and paste the script below into Script Editor's window and save as an application.
do shell script "/usr/bin/defaults write com.apple.iWeb iWebDefaultsDocumentPath -boolean no"delay 1
    tell application "iWeb" to activate
You can download an already compiled version with this link: iWeb Switch Domain.
Just launch the application, find and select the domain file you want to open and it will open with iWeb. It modifies the iWeb preference file each time it's launched so one can switch between domain files.
WARNING: iWeb Switch Domain will overwrite an existing Domain.sites2 file if you select to create a new domain in the same folder.  So rename your domain files once they've been created to something other than the default name.

    souvikfromKolkata,
you’ll know as soon as the rest of us do if Apple decide to produce a new non-Retina model. My guess would be that they won’t do so, but that’s only a guess.
With Internet, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint representing your main usage, either a MacBook Pro or a MacBook Air would be suitable for you.

  • Disk Utility: What does "scan image for restore" do?

Before restoring a disk image, I know that I need to use Disk Utility's "Scan Image for Restore…" feature.
Exactly what does this feature do?

    I asked because I didn't know.
I was helping someone upgrade his PowerMac G5 from the original 80GB hard drive to a 1TB drive.
Since the G5 can accommodate two internal drives, I could have simply added the new drive and used Disk Utility's "restore" feature to migrate his data directly from the old drive to the new drive.
But it was more convenient for me to work at home so I removed the old drive, and brought it home along with the new drive.
I couldn't connect both drives to my MacBook Pro, since I only have one SATA drive dock. So I did it like this:
    1. Connected the old drive to my SATA dock.
    2. Create a disk image from his old drive, saving it to an external USB drive.
    3. Disconnected the old drive from the SATA dock and connected the new one.
    4. Restore the disk image to the new drive
Of course, when I tried step 4, I got an error message about needing to do a scan first. That's what led me to this question.
I have a follow-up question: When I created the image, I didn't bother changing the default image format, which is "compressed." If I had given the matter a little thought, I could have created a read-only image, since I would never need to change the image.
If I had used read-only, would Disk Utility have created the checksums on-the-fly when it created the disk image?

  • What does "Binary Images" mean in a Crash Log

I'm trying to understand the iPhone crash logs better. What does the section titled "Binary Images" mean?
I got a crash log from my own iPhone and it has 45 lines in the Binary Images section. When a customer from the App Store submitted a crash report to me, it had 78!
(Maybe they had a jailbroken device)
Any help or links would be greatly appreciated!

The Binary Images comprise a map that shows the starting and ending address of every module that was linked to your app at the time of the crash. For example, if your app requires a dynamic library named dylibx, and the object code for that library requires 1 Mbyte of memory, when your app starts up the library code will be "mapped" into the logical memory space of your app (Logical memory addresses aren't physical memory addresses; at runtime your app will be assigned some physical memory and the logical memory gets mapped onto that).
So in the above example, the starting address of dylibx might be 0x30000000 so it's ending address would be 0x300FFFFF. You can use this info to find out which module owns the addresses given in other sections of the report. If you see 0x300ABCD you'll know that address is in dylibx.
Here's a fairly readable article on how to interpret a crash log: [http://www.sealiesoftware.com/blog/archive/2008/09/22/objcexplain_So_you_crashed_in_objcmsgSend.html]. As you can see, it's possible to get some clues from a crash log even if you don't know anything about the system or the hardware.
    Hope that helps!

  • What does pin 1 do on the docking connector? (iPod won't sync with AVIC-D3)

My wife's 5th Gen iPod stopped working with her AVIC-D3 header in her vehicle. I can connect other iPods of various generations and they work just fine.
This has gone back to Best Buy (its still under extended warranty) five (yes, 5) times and they never fix anything. They do come up with different reasons it doesn't qualify for the "lemon" clause in said warranty - but thats not your problem . So it came back from visit number five and they replaced the battery... nice of them but couldn't find anything else wrong. This time when we took it up there to say "still not working" (so return number six) they were much more accomodating (I just moved to a new city, so I was refreshed to see that customer service isn't entirely dead) and plugged it up to their display stereos and docks there at the Geek Squad station and it worked just fine. They didn't have an AVIC connected - these were all the "two line display" stereos. So in their eyes, its the header (which again, will sync with every other iPod in the world). I brought it home and started looking it over - the first pin in the output socket (pin 1 on the left with the white face up) was simply not there. So I took it back to Best Buy and they said that it was a ground wire and would not impact the player or the way it syncs up.
Depending on which pinout diagram I look at on the web, its either a ground or a firewire pin. While I can't see the ground doing much (but I'm by no means an expert), the firewire is a definate maybe.
So since Best Buy won't help, I thought I'd try to reverse engineer this thing. +If I can figure out if the missing pin is vital, then I can go back (again) and make a case for it.+ Can anyone confirm if this is a ground wire or a firewire pin thats missing (or something else)?
    A couple of quick facts:
    Its a 5th Generation iPod Video (30GB)
It powers up and charges via the USB cable on a PC and will play if connected to a desktop dock or two line car stereo
If connected, the D3 does not acknowledge it at all
It used to work with this header
While connected, there is no indication in the iPod display that it has external power and I can freely navigate the menus (it normally shows the Pioneer logo)
My iPod Classic works using the same cable with no problem
A friend's iPod 5.5 Generation works fine using the same cable
It is at the latest firmware
I reset it with no change
Any help is appreciated - thanks!

Hello and Welcome to Apple Discussions.
    1. Could you give some specific details of what does and doesn't happen when youy try to sync. Do you have Auto-syncing, or are you manually managing music?
    2. You don't need to enter these. Go into Settings > WiFi > and switch WiFi on. Then pick your SSID (network name) from the list that appears. Enter your WEP key/password or WPA password.
The router details etc should be filled in automatically.
    cheers

  • What does this Macbook Pro Model # Mean?...MB133LZ/A

I just purchased a Macbook Pro off of eBay and have now just noticed that they had the MPN for this laptop listed as MB133LZ/A. After doing some research, is this a computer from outside of the U.S.? If so, will this be a problem for me since I live in the United States? Can anyone explain to me what the model # means and if this laptop will be any different than the ones sold in the U.S. Thanks a lot!

One of my fellow level 4s appears to believe that LZ indicates it is from a Latin American country. That might indicate a slightly different keyboard, but you can always attach a U.S. keyboard if you find that it is, and Apple menu -> System preferences -> International lets you select the keyboard settings you desire.

  • What's wrong with my (mid-2009) 13" Macbook Pro?

Alright, so here's what I know.
My 13" mid-2009 macbook pro laptop is working for about 15 minutes on average before it stops working. When it stops working, all open applications will not close properly if they're requiring to use a save function. Sometimes I'm told that there isn't enough disk space (even though I have more than 100+ GB available) and other times it will tell me that the RAM is totally full and I need to start force closing things to get it to start working (which it never does). At that point, the internet also stops loading pages all together. The fan may also not be functioning properly (but i'm not entirely sure what proper fan fuctionality is) - it doesn't seem likes its working the same way it used to.
The only thing I know for sure is that my battery is completely shot ("REPLACE NOW") and i'm in the process of manually repairing that myself. The only other thing I know is that my charger is sort of on its last limb as well, so I'm also in the process of fixing those things. Is it possible that these two things combined are the source of my problems?
I'm running mountain lion on the computer and I can't figure out how to get apple diagnostics to work. I also don't have any coverage left on apple care and I'm crazy poor, so i'm hoping that these symptoms aren't a death sentance for my computer and that some of you can point me in the right direction.
    Please help!
    - Adam

But the 85W version won't do any harm, so if you have any other MBPs in larger sizes, you might as well get the higher-powered adapter and be able to use it with any of the machines.

You can use XP but it has to be in a Virtual Machine and OS X as the host instead of as a dual boot system with XP in its own partition. That is how I run Windows on my Mac, in a Virtual Machine.
Take a look at VritualBox from Oracle. It's free and works very well.
