What exactly did I buy from Adobe?

I purchased software from Adobe on 10/17. I entered all my contact information and then was told the ordering system was down and they would process within 24 hours. I needed the software THEN since I had to distribute my book the next day. Now, in the midst of a lot of stuff going on in my life, I have forgotten exactly what I ordered. Is there a way to find out?

    Purchased Premiere Pro in May 2008.  After downloading, trying it out and realizing it was not going to do what I needed (it couldn't handle DVC pro 50), I asked for a refund, and deleted the program (went back to Avid).  I have never received a refund.  Life got busy (new house, wife, kids), never checked on the refund.
    Just checked my refund status to see if I am not remembering that I even asked for a refund.  It says "Pending Approval".  Over a year later.
    The only reason I know this is I purchased the AE CS4 upgrade today, only it put me down for 2 copies, not one.  I have made four phone calls to customer support and two to corporate. NO ONE CAN REFUND ME ONE COPY OR EVEN THE WHOLE ORDER.
    The solution offered by the last call center employee?  Download a "Letter of Destruction" .pdf file, print it, fill it out, scan it, send a .jpg to the customer support portal.  Oh, and it will take 3-5 business days.
    So Adobe is going to hold on to my $600 (as well as my $300 from last year) because no one at a computer company that does business online can figure out a better way to send a refund online.  I have never, ever, run into an online company with that kind of refund idiocy.
    Seems Adobe will make sure it puts you through HELL before they hand over 1 dime.
    Never buy from Adobe online.  Go to a brick and mortar every time.

    First - I understand that you are frustrated. But...let's be realistic here. A lot of things could have been done on your part to avoid the situation you are in right now.
    For example,
    - you could have read the specs for Premiere Pro before purchasing, to see if it could handle DVC pro 50
    - you could have downloaded a 30 day trial before purchasing to see if it met your requirements. Adobe offers this for most all of their applications.
    In all honesty, it's pretty amazing that Adobe agreed to a refund. If you had purchased it from a brick and mortar store, they would have told you the software package was opened, so no returns. This is a common policy with software at brick and mortar stores.
    Regarding your error today, I am confused. Did you order the AE upgrade from the online store? Did you select the number that you add to your cart? Sounds like you accidentally added two upgrades to your cart?
    As for their "letter of destruction" policy - it sounds pretty simple to me. They have to have legal recourse so they know people aren't pirating. Once you download, you have the serial numbers. If they find they these serial numbers are being used by you - or anyone else, they need to know the source of where they came from. That would be on the letter of destruction.
    So my recommendation, take a couple of deep breaths, kick back, watch some TV tonight....
    then tomorrow morning fill out the letter of destruction form and send it to Adobe. I think you will find it takes very little time.
    Much less effort than you would expend trying to convince a brick and mortar store to take back an opened software package...

  • What exactly did I Migrate??

    Hi,
    I wanted to copy only a few things from my old Mac to my new MacBookPro. So I started Migration Assistant, thinking I could select individual files and folders. Mainly I wanted to copy my iTunes Library, plus a few random other folders in my user account.
    So I went through the steps, assuming (stupid, I know I should never assume) that I could back out at some point if it didn;t seem to be doing what I wanted. So I turned off the checks for User Accounts, Applications, Settings, and left on Other Files and Folders. I thought i would then get to choose what those would be. Then it copied things.
    Now, my question is - what exactly did I copy, where is it, can i delete it? There appears to only be new files at the root, 'User Guides and Information (from old Mac)' and 'var (from old Mac)'.
    Also. Can you please confirm that Migration Assistant only COPIED filed from my old machine, it didn't delete anything off the old machine, did it??
    Any answers would be appreciated. And I'm pleading - please don't chastise me for doing something without researching it first, I'm already feeling incredibly dumb

    The "Other Files and Folders" option of Migration Assistant copies items at the root level of the HD that are not in the root level System, Library, Applications, Users, or hidden system domain folders at the root level of the HD -- IOW, things that none of the other migration options would otherwise touch.
    For example, say you created a disk image (dmg) file & stored it at the root level of the HD, along side of System, Library, etc. Migration Assistant would not normally copy this file over to the new Mac's HD so you could use the "Other Files and Folders" option to do this.
    The same would be true for example for the "User Guides and Information" alias normally present on new Macs that points to the /Library/Documentation/User Guides And Information folder containing that Mac's User Guide pdf & such. If I understand you correctly, this alias file was renamed "User Guides and Information (from old Mac)," I'm guessing because the new Mac has its own alias file of the same name.
    I'm not sure why you have a "var (from old Mac)" folder (assuming it is a folder & not an alias or regular file) migrated as well. The /private/var folder is one of the hidden system domain ones & I would not expect Migration Assistant to migrate it in its entirety with any migration option, although selected items in it might be migrated as part of the other options.

  • What exactly is un-needed from the Library folder?

    I just want to know what exactly is ok to delete and what is not ok to delete from my Library folder. Many things take up a lot of disk space. I know I can delete the printer drivers (2GB)... but I don't know what other stuff is unnecessary. I'm not too skilled when it comes to this kind of stuff so please help me out. I want to clear out as much un-needed stuff as possible. Here are the biggest folders in my Library folder.
    - Application Support folder (3.94GB) [required or not?]
    - Audio folder (2.49GB) [required or not?]
    - Documentation (355.9MB) [required or not?]
    - Receipts (125.4MB) [required or not?]

    I personally would not start with the Library folder to start trying to make space, unless you really know what you use. Application Support for example, depends on what applications you use or don't use.

    How to find out?

    The best way would be to find and query the AcroRd32.exe executable. The file version information is stored in the executable itself.
    There are lots of places in the registry that you could also potentially access relevant information.
    For example the uninstall string:
    HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall
    Contains a string that you could use to search for the application version.
    How you would do this in .NET I'm not sure but you would use some kind of text search command to search for the relevant text and then use "if exists" condition.

    I am wondering what happens when you buy a macbook form a third party vender. In my case it is amazon.com. I am reading about people returning their macbook's to apple for a refund due to the high pitched whine everyone is talking about. My understanding is that we can still send them to apple to get fixed for the noise, but even if they can't fix it we still can't get a refund right? If I try to return it to Amazon as a defective product who decides if it is? Apple or Amazon?

    So it was a Sunday afternoon, my Flash Builder trial had expired, and I decided to purchase a license and spend a few hours with the Builder before going out.
    Instead, I spent 4 hours, got charged the $249, and never received a thing.
    First, the free trial's Buy link didn't even take me to the same product (standard builder), it took me to something costing over 3x as much (PHP Premium) that I don't need, and there was no way to get to anything else from there.  Had to go to the main Adobe site and look around, and it wasn't easy to find what I was looking for or compare prices.  Confusing site. 
    Next, of course I wanted the latest version, 4.6.  But only 4.5 was available for sale.  Presuming there would be a free upgrade (having to upgrade  right after buying), I went ahead and took the plunge, spent the $249.
    It took about half an hour just to get the 1st order-related email, which had no link and no key.  Over an hour later, another email came through with a link.  After creating a password etc. and logging in, there was nothing there -- no serial #, no download.  Looking back at the 1st email, there was a disclaimer saying it could take up to 24 hours.  Well, why didn't they say that up-front.  These days usually when you buy a downloadable product, you get it right away.
    I contacted support intending to say either let me have what I bought now, or cancel the order.  Their chat makes you enter a bunch of stuff and explain the problem, but they don't seem to read any of that, they ask you for it all over again and don't answer the question.  Then they changed that "24 hours" online-delivery estimate to "48-72 hours".  Eventually, they sent me a form to fill out, print, sign, have scanned, and send back to them -- to cancel an order I hadn't received yet.  Then I had to contact them again because the form requires a case number, but they hadn't given me that.  And they never would, he just said look in your account under open cases.
    So, what a pain.  All they had to do was send me a serial number... how hard is it, for $249?
    and that's why people go looking for keygens for Adobe software.  They charge too much, and buying it is more trouble than cracking it!

    Looking forward to when I can afford a laptop fast enough to run Everything under virtualization.  Then everything (including Windows) can be activated once and will never have to be re-activated.  Replace your computer, no problem, just copy the VM over.  Got a virus?  Just go back to a restore point.  But I tried this for a year and it's just too slow on current hardware...
    BTW, I'm still waiting for the refund. The charge disappeared from pending in my account for days, then they sent an email saying your refund has been processed... and the charge re-appeared as posted on that date, with no refund chargeback pending.  So it appears they 'accidentally' re-charged me instead of refunding.  Merry Xmas, we'll keep your money safe for you.

    Also, there is no way to see traffic "at that moment in time".
    ConfigMgr is just not a "real-time" product.
    As Jörgen said the best you can get is to look at the client logs.

  • What exactly did Apple Repair accomplish?

    Hi,
    I sent in my MacBook for repair last week because of a high pitched chirping that occured on playback when I used the built-in mic and built-in iSight simultaneously. I just got it back about half an hour ago, and the problem still exists.
    They did change out a few parts, one being the heatsink assembly (HEATSINK ASSY, K36), but I have no clue what "PCBA, MLB, BEST" is, or what either of them have to do with a faulty microphone.
    The problem description on the work order read:
    "Issue: When recording audio with the built-in microphone, you get a loud, annoying high-pitched noise when activating the built-in iSight camera. The sound goes away when recording audio only."
    At the moment, I am nowhere near an Apple Store, and my complimentary phone support is expired. If I call Apple Support about the repair in particular, will they try to charge me?
    I may just end up driving out somewhere just to have it sent for repair again...

    Alright, so I was digging through my Trash in hopes of finding some evidence (QuickTime recording-- or something) that Apple tested the hardware before shipping it back to me.
    Thankfully, I did... and playing it back, I noticed two things about the video:
    1. The high-pitched "chirping" interference was gone
    2. The location of the recording was in a warehouse-like environment -- which means lots of background noise and very bright lighting conditions -- (i.e. tungsten-based light sources)
    You may be wondering why I even bothered to mention the lighting conditions... but let me try to explain.
    All the tests that I've run were under "normal indoor lighting conditions", meaning 75- watt light bulbs. Further testing proved that when reducing the amount light, the interference would get progressively worse, maybe because the iSight is working harder to pick up whatever ambient light is available.
    Right now, it's raining outside, very cloudy.. House lights are off, and the window blinds are open. I start recording (both video and audio), and the interference is very loud. When I turn on some lights in the house, the interference is still there and still very noticeable, but nowhere near the level when lights in the house were off. When I point the camera to the ceiling at the light source, the interference (which is nearly "chirp-like") smooths into a steady tone and greatly reduces in volume.
    Hmmm...Another thing I've noticed about the video left behind by Apple:
    3. The iSight camera was pointing toward the ceiling and the bright warehouse lights when the test was conducted.
