What field order when editing AVCHD in SD timeline?

Hi,
I have some AVCHD 60i footage which will be output to DVD.  Reading different ways of editing HD I finally decided to edit the HD footage in an SD timeline since it will never be output to anything other than SD and I then have the ability to zoom around a bit more if needed.
I know I should be editing an interlaced timeline but when I select DV NTSC I get "Lower Field First" by default, whereas I have read that AVCHD interlaced footage is Upper Field First.  I do know that DV and SD are different.  If I just create a 720x480 29.97 upper field first timeline will I be ok or is the final m2v output expecting one field order of the other?
I will export my final timeline as a lagarith AVI which I will then have Encore encode for me.
Thank you for your suggestions!
-Stephen

Thank you both for your input.  I also thought that having a smaller scale timeline would speed up rendering of effects, but maybe I'm mistaken.
I'm exporting as Lagarith AVI because I cannot, not matter what settings I use, get a crisp image when exporting direct to m2v.  I always get noticable artifacting around the edges.  The AVI appears to minimize this at least a little.  I am using Max Rener Quality and Render and Maximum Depth.
But without getting on a tangent on those, it sounds like it IS ok then for me to edit the AVCHD footage (upper field first) in an upper field first timeline and then export (either m2v or avi) as an upper field first file?
I'll keep working on the encoding (been working on it for 2 days) to see why the artifacting is going on.
Thank you again,
-Stephen

  • Field Order When Capturing

    Hi all,
I have a slight issue when capturing in Premiere Pro CC. I am capturing NTSC footage from a VHS via the Blackmagic Intensity Shuttle for Thunderbolt. The capture process goes smoothly, in general. However, I have a slight issue with the field order.
When I capture the video through Blackmagic Media Express, the video captures lower field first, which should be correct, right? But when I capture in Premiere Pro, it captures as upper field first.
I have checked my capture settings within PP - it's setup for Blackmagic capturing. I'm capturing NTSC 4x3 at uncompressed 8-bit 4:2:2, which is the same that the Blackmagic software is capturing at. I cannot find an option for field order. I know that I can reinterpret the footage, but I prefer to capture correctly.
Can anyone shed any light on this?
    Thanks in advance.

Gotcha. The catch, for me at least, is that any videos I capture through Premiere will not play back on my NTSC monitor through my blackmagic device when played in Premiere. However, if I import footage captured in Blackmagic and drop that in a sequence, it plays back through the NTSC monitor fine.
    Oh well,
    Thanks for the help!
PS - Are you saying I should leave it as upper field first, rather than reinterpret to lower first?

  • How to copy field groups when editing a form?

    Hi everyone,
I´m setting up a form using Acrobat X Pro. When I copy paste fields, they end up in the same field group. Could anyone tell me how to copy groups?
In my case, I would like to copy the answer options from one question, using them as the answer options for the next question.
    Any idea?
    Thanks a lot!!
    Andy

    Thank you!
I still hoped that there would be an easier way - also the Radio Button Choices change in weird ways once I change the name...
If there is still anybody who has a better way of going about this - please send a quick message.
    Thanks again and best wishes

  • What does "/"  "\" mean when using it on the Timeline?

Learning Adobe premier pro classroom CC

The "\" key zooms into the timeline. So if you can't see all of your clips because you are zoomed in too far, the "\" will set your view to fit to the visible area of the timeline.
The "/" key marks the selection.
In the future, the best way to get that information is to go into the Edit menu, select Keyboard Shortcuts, and type in the keys you want to know more about. It will show you what action is related to the key you enter and if no action aqppears then you know that key or key combination is available for you to assign to something.

  • Field order on Firewire output

I have been using Premiere Elements for some years and, before that, Premiere 6.5. I have now begun to use Premiere Pro CS6 and am getting on well with it. I have Windows 7 Home Premium with 4Gb of RAM. I realise that 4Gb is borderline for editing HD material but for the time being I shall mainly be cutting SD DV from tape. I have a Pyro Firewire card which is connected to a Sony DSR11 tape deck. I am in the UK and work in PAL 625 720x576, very occasionally 1920x1080i AVCHD, from SD memory cards. The composite video output from the DSR11 is plugged to a CRT monitor.
Capture works fine from the DSR11. But, when using the same unit in E-E mode for monitoring or when Exporting to tape from Premiere, the field order as displayed on the monitor and recorded on tape is wrong. The only way to correct the problem is to reverse the field order of every clip on the Timeline, resulting in everything needing rendering and it all taking a long time.
All indications are that the captured material is correct (lower field first) and that ingested by Elements and previously cut on PrEl is known to be OK. All output from Pro as fed down the Firewire is reversed. I can see no Set Up that selects the Field order.
So, my question: Have I missed something? Is there a hidden menu somewhere?
I'm looking forward to many years working with Pro, just so long as I can get over this little hurdle. Thank you for your time and for any advice you can offer.
    Alan S.

If you want to avoid having to reverse every clip in the timeline individually then you can right click each source clip in the bin  and select the "modify>interpet" option and make the field order correct. This way anytime you drag anything from that clip to the timeline it will already be corrected. Doing this with the 1 source clip in the bin will also correct any trimmed clips created from the source clip as well. Basically it will save you from having to click the same clip several times in the timeline to reverse the field order individually.
However it still clearly stinks it's reversing your field order, sorry I don't have any ideas on how to fix your actual problem.

  • Grey Out a Field only when Creating a New Campaign

    Hi ,
I Have a requirement to Grey out the  Language Field   when Creating a new Campaign.
The same field should be in editable mode when we go  and edit an existing  Campaign.
    Method GET_I_LANGU.
    if parent_entity->is_changeable( ) = abap_true.
        rv_disabled = 'FALSE'.
      else.
        rv_disabled = 'TRUE'.
      endif.
    endmethod.
    I tried changing the rv_disabled =  'TRUE'.
But it will grey out  the field even when editing an existing Campaign also.
    Any Suggestions.
    Regards,
    sijo

    Hi,
At the Left handside there will be Runtime Repository tree u can see the Campaign in the Root Nodes , under go to the relations and u will get the CPGDescriptionRel (Description) as the relation . Get the attribute EXTERNAL_ID from the parent_entity variable in the GET_I_LANGU method.
    data lv_campaign type CRM_MKTPL_CAMPAIGNID.
      CALL METHOD PARENT_ENTITY->IF_BOL_BO_PROPERTY_ACCESS~GET_PROPERTY_AS_VALUE
        EXPORTING
          IV_ATTR_NAME = 'EXTERNAL_ID'
       IMPORTING
    EV_RESULT    =  lv_campaign.
now make use of the  lv_campaign .

  • Field Order Changes?  Rendering from Color.

I received a project from a client that was run through color. I noticed their source files were lower field dominant (525/29.97) and their renders from color were upper or odd field dominant. This caused some strangeness in their sequences and it looks like they de-interlaced their clips and/or changed the field order of their sequences. I can't find anywhere in Color to set this as a pre-set, other than setting to de-interlace renders. Is it possible that Color is inverting the field order when it renders? This used to happen with Compressor, when I would export FCP for DVD's, sometimes Compressor would (set to Auto) guess wrong on the field dominance. Can anyone advise?
    Thanks in advance.

If only it were that easy. Of course, you will want to set a "re-interlace" for export....
De-interlace seems to be poorly understood and not very well executed in a lot of file-based image processing. In COLOR, both the Geometry and COLORFX rooms display spectacular weaknesses in this regard. To even use the word as its applied in COLORFX is a bit of a misnomer, because the real thrust of the exercise is to "split" and flag the fields for proper dominance handling. The COLOR USER manual has a good illustrated example of how to do this -- the result is a "twin" effects tree -- split the frame into its components at the top, do your voodoo identically for each "field" stream, then correctly zipper them back together at the bottom. Its a bit of a secret process, not entirely dissociated from a Masonic handshake.
There is a notional similarity to SHAKE in this regard, although that application only needs the FileIn node and the GLOBALS render tab enabled appropriately.

  • Fields become non-editable when forwarding X11 session to Windows in Java 7

I have found what I believe could be a bug in Java 7, and Swing specifically. The scenario in which it occurs is pretty rare, so it's not surprising that I couldn't find anyone posting about experiencing this issue, but it's an issue that happens consistently for our product and our users.
    Steps to reproduce:
    1) Download any Swing-based Java application (for instance, IntelliJ IDEA or SoapUI) on a Linux machine.
    2) SSH into this host machine from a Windows SSH client, using X11 forwarding (you can use this guide to set it up using PuTTy and Xming - http://blog.nth-design.com/2010/05/19/x11-putty-xming/ )
    3) Run the application, and make sure the application is running with JRE7.
    4) Try to edit some different text fields.
When doing this, certain text fields that are supposed to be editable suddenly become non-editable. This issue does not occur if you repeat the above procedure with JRE6.
If you need any further assistance in reproducing this issue, let us know.

I'm confused here.

  • Tab between fields when editing song information

iTunes 10.4 removed the ability to tab between fields when editing song information. Is there another shortcut now?

Yes, I know EXACTLY what you mean. Actually the Tab sequence was reversed in 10.4. I'm upset that it took me until Septeber 2011 to figure it out. For the longest time, probably every release of iTunes. The Tab sequence went (Source-->Tab-->Search Music box-->Tab-->Tracks List)
Now it's the reverse and it's so annoying. I have both Mac and Windows and was able to downgrade my Windows iTunes to 10.3.x (though I had to downgrade to a previous iTunes Library.itl file. I cannot downgrade my Mac iTunes b/c it's my main library and I'd lose historic data by restoring and old iTunes Library.itl file
I've written to Apple about this several times the past few weeks but they've yet to address this. The latest version is 10.5 and it hasn't been restored. I WISH Apple would RESTORE this feature to its ORIGINAL design!!!

  • What's hardware should upgrade for Using Premiere CS4 to editing (AVCHD)m2ts file?

What's hardware or software should upgrade for Using Premiere CS4 to editing (AVCHD)m2ts file?
1st question: when i try to do editing by using Premiere CS4 AVCHD sequence timeline, the edting monitor seems not smooth (like wearing goggles) & delay, and when i use AME to encode m2ts file (which not yet edit) to AVI file (about 1 hour), it take 2h 13min to finish, is it normal?
2nd question: i use mpeg2 HD 1440 file to do eding, the edting monitor also not very smooth but better than using m2ts file, after editing done, i try to encode these mpeg2 HD 1440 file (which edited about long 1 hr) to a New file mpeg2 1440 X 1080i HQ or even mpeg2 Pal DV HQ file, the encoding was not runthe encoding after wait for half an hour. How many hours it take usually????
3rd question: i use m2ts file video file to export as a Bitmap, 1 frame 1 picture bitmap, it take long time too, about 1 or 2min to finish encoding, if i export more than 1 picture, it take even more time, i have experienced it, 3 or 4 pictures need about 10 or 15 min to finish encoding. i used to using mpeg2 HD 1440 file (which edited file) to export frame as picture, it not run the encoding at all. WHY ????
i'm new in Premiere CS4,so i got many question about Premiere CS4, usually i use Premiere Pro 1.5 version
my computer is: Intel (R) Core (TM) 2 Duo CPU

Graphic Card: ATI Radeon X1650 series
2 Hard Disks in my computer (C Drive is 300 GB (not sata) , D Drive is 500 GB sata)
    4th Question: Premiere CS5 & Premiere CS4 which one is better ???
5th Question: What's different ATI Radeon and NVIDIA Card, which is better, which u suggest to. What is different Graphic Card and Video Card ?? Should i install HD Video Card ????

I don't think a core-2 will work very well with AVCHD... you need at least an Intel i7 920... or whatever is current
My CS5/AVCHD 1st Impressions http://forums.adobe.com/thread/652694?tstart=0 includes a link to the computer I built... since the GTX 285 is no longer sold, I would now go with a GTX 460 or whatever is the current "best bang for the buck" - AND I would buy 4Gig-by-3Sticks memory to be able to expand from 12Gig to 24Gig if needed
For my home hobbyist, family movies (which means that I am not trying to recreate Star Wars with video effects or many layers) AVCHD editing is "as smooth as spreading warm butter on hot toast" (also the MP4 video from wife's Flip camera)
My 3 hard drives are configured as...
    1 - 320G WD Win7 and all programs
2 - 320G WD Win7 swap file and PPro projects
3 - 1T WD all video files... read and write

  • What resolution & order of work to scan slides for Photoshop editing

When editing all done I would propose to save at 300 dpi. If the photo/slide requires no editing, I would also scan in and save at 300 dpi.
My slides, however, need a lot of work. They have deteriorated over the years and need - colour correction, removal of colour casts, brighten up shadows, brighten up colours etc. etc.
I have read many books and tips but they all seem to think I want to  produce prize winning images with amazing time consuming enhancements! I  just want, as I have seen from other threads, to get into a simple routine and crack on through the pile of slides to produce acceptable digital images!
My simple mind suggests give Photoshop as much to work with as possible!
    I have:
    - a Minolta Dual 3 AF 2840 Slide scanner which has many features akin to Photoshop - curves, Levels etc.
    - Photoshop 6.0.1 and Elements 2.0 - not very up to date I am afraid!
    Three questions:
    1) The maximum Scanner resolution is 2840 - I would have thought scanning at this best to get the most information of the image into Photoshop. Would this seem right - I can resample down to 300 dpi at the end?
    2) How much editing should I do in the Scanner - to give Photoshop the best information to work with - e.g. should I use Levels/Curves in the scanner to brighten up the shadows for Photoshop etc?
    3) Once in Photoshop for final editing, what is the best order of work and which tools best to use, bearing in mind for, say colour cast, you can use Curves, Levels, Colour Balance, Variations etc, etc.- it seems colour balance is best for this from what I have read. My suggested routine is:
Use Scanner to scan and do initial editing:.
    - Clean slide
    - Crop
    - Set 2840 Resolution
    - Pixel polishing etc
    - Use Colour balance for colour cast
    - Curves/levels to bring out detail from the shadows
    - Scan
    - Save as TIFF
    Photoshop
    - Crop
    - Final Overall Tonal adjustments - Curves and Levels?
    - Final Overall Colour casts - Colour Balance?
    - Adjust specific tonal adjustments etc. for selected areas - Dodge, Burn etc?
    - Other adjustments - Clone out blemishes etc.
    - Unsharpen
    - Resample to 300 dpi and save as JPG or TIFF etc. for required purpose - usually JPEG
Does this sound right - any suggestion for variation etc. will be most welcome?
Any other advice also most welcome!
    Tony

    Dear Marian,
Thanks for the prompt reply - it sounds like it is just what I want  to hear!
Just to  double check my understanding! Do you agree, then, that it is a good  idea to scan slides (and negatives for that matter) at the maximum  resolution for the purpose of further  editing in Photoshop?
As you say, Photoshop will reduce  the ppi automatically for larger images than the slide. Most of my final printed  output will be 6x4" but it still gives me scope for a half decent print  at 8x11" if I want.
As I understand it, Slides and Negatives are pretty dense  and can accept high resolution scanning whereas to scan a magazine  page, for example, there would be no need to scan at more than 300 dpi -  in fact to do so may even produce funny results!
I know  people can get carried away with resolution. I do get amused when people  get excited about their super megapixel cameras when they ever only  display the results on a screen or a small print!
Thanks  again for your comments - if you can confirm the above, that will be one big issue solved for me.
    Tony

i went as far as downloading the cab file, and attempted
to tweak it and place it on my own webserver. the cab file uses an inf file that refers to an ini file on Sun site, this ini file then refers to a _04.exe (http://java.sun.com/products/plugin/autodl/j2re-1_3_1_04-windows-i586.exe). i was hoping to tweak the inf file and ini file and find the actual _03.exe file, but i can't find the correspondent _03.exe anywhere :(
