What functionality are you successfully using in your EO SuperClasses?

Hi Everyone:
We are very new to JHeadstart/JDeveloper and have just established the method we are going to use at the Entity Level to convert input to Uppercase by putting the following code into a superclass and extending the .xml files of the entities from EntityImpl to this superclass which we called UWEntityImpl.
What I am wondering is what other ways is this functionality being used by you more experienced JHeadstart Developers? I am trying not to re-invent the wheel and utilize methods that have worked well for you.
Of course I can think of toLowerCase, what else are you using?
Thanks so much in advance.
Mary
U of Windsor
Example Code:
package its.sis.BusinessModel.model;
import oracle.jbo.AttributeDef;
import oracle.jbo.server.EntityImpl;
public class UWEntityImpl extends EntityImpl {
public UWEntityImpl () {
// This code converts the inputted string to Uppercase in the database.
// April 27, 2007 mb
protected void setAttributeInternal(int i, Object object) {
Object value = object;
AttributeDef def = getEntityDef().getAttributeDef(i);
if ("true".equalsIgnoreCase((String)def.getProperty("UPPERCASE"))) {
if (value != null && value instanceof String) {
value = ((String)value).toUpperCase();
super.setAttributeInternal(i, value);
}

to)? I was curious because it seems to store them in
a proprietary format, and before I get into moving
hundreds more images I thought I would ask. I have
2-300 gigs of usable space but Aperture seems like it
could get huge with image adjustments.
Hi Eric,
I'm not a pro, but I wanted to clear up one of your issues. Aperture does not store or convert your files in a proprietary format. The image files that you store in the library will remain in their original format and untouched. The "Library" is a Mac OS X entity called a package. A package appears as a single file, but it's an illusion. If you ever needed to extract your image files, you can do so in the Finder (without Aperture) by option-clicking on the "Library" and selecting "Show Package Contents". Now you can navigate the file and folder structure to get at your originals. Of course, a much faster and easier way is to have Aperture export the originals. However, my point was to clear up the "proprietary" structure misunderstanding.
Also--as was mentioned--each adjustment doesn't create a new image file. Every new version of your original is merely a list of instructions or "recipe" used to apply adjustments to the original to recreate the version for screen and print. This is done dynamically, on the fly. A finished version of the original is never created and saved to a file until you tell it to export a version. Thus, every version is a very small addition to the database. This is very unlike iPhoto, where every new version of a file creates a new image to store...all the more reason to move to Aperture.
Hope that helps.

    Hi,
    I own Aperture (bought recently) and am in the process of moving my large iPhoto library over. Are you pro users using Aperture as your primary image file library (as in the place you upload your cards to)? I was curious because it seems to store them in a proprietary format, and before I get into moving hundreds more images I thought I would ask. Hi Ken,
    Thanks for the reply. The project I am working on is a test project for a customer. They could potentially want a number of their educational subjects presented as an interactive text book. The intent of this first project with them is to establish a logical workflow that will allow us to efficiently estimate costs and allow for review throughout the design process. Having worked with customers on creative projects in the past I can anticipate that they will want a number of changes made once they see a working version of the interactive text book.
    It is a grim reality that no project can be fully edited and planned prior to working on it and I know revisions and changes are always made once the customer can see their product. It is ok with me if there is no easy way to pass the text back and forth from the customer and me without having to reformat everything but I just want to know that is the way it works in order to provide a realistic time estimate for the project.
    My hope was I would be able to export the formatted text, allow them to make edits and then reimport that formatted text. The style sheets I am using are from one of the iBooks Author templates.
    Do you know if there is a way to use (or export ) this style sheet so it can be used in a Pages Document?
    Or, would the best option be to have the customer install iBooks Author? This would require the customer to have a mac and the software so it doesn't work for all cases.
    Another idea I was considering would be to export the book as a PDF and have the customer add markup and notes to the PDF.
    All of these options do not seem too great to me.
    I am open to any ideas.
    Thanks,
    Rob

  • What 802.11N or Pre-N network cards are you successfully using with AEN?

    In particular, I'm using a Belkin Pre-N router & PCcard with a Windows XP notebook. Have any of you tried that card with the AE(N)?
    Have you been successful with any other mfr's PCcard with the AE(N)?
    Thanks.

    Peter,
    You have a very confusing situation. Try to simplify the network to isolate the issue. Turn off everything but one airport and the Mac Pro. Does it connect successfully? Does it SEE the network (even if its not connected)? Might it be an issue with encryption?
    My advice is to start as simple as possible: 1 computer, 1 base station, no encryption. Channel shouldn't matter too much if the Airport base stations are set for the US. The base station sets the channel, the computer simply tunes into whatever channels the base station is using.
    If the simplest set up works, change ONE thing at a time until it DOESN'T work. Add encryption. Add the second base station. Still works? Move so that you're now at the OTHER base station (the slave) instead of the master. Still works? Turn the other computer on. Keep testing until it breaks.
    Good luck,
    Perry

  • Which USB external disk are you successfully using with TC?

    I've seen various posts about attaching an external USB disk to the TC. Some people have been successful and others have had problems. I have tried 2 different disks without success.
    The first disk (Seagate 300GB) went into sleep mode after not being used for a while and the TC couldn't wake it up! The second disk (Maxtor One Touch 300GB) worked most of the time but had problems when importing lots of pictures into iPhoto. iPhoto would complain it couldn't find files part way through the import (like it had lost the connection to the disk). Both of these disks work fine with a Linksys NSLU2.
    If anyone has had success with an external USB disk could they please post the make, model and capacity?
    Thank you.

    It helps to 'wrap' URLs with code so they don't run off the screen, using UUB or HTML.... but that is minor for now.
    Easier to search "ST94811U2-RK"
    http://www.seagate.com
    However I get "not found" on that drive. Your link comes up with "ST3300601U2-RK" There are some USB2 only PB 300GB drives listed.
    I tend to stick to non-vendor drives, rather than Maxtor or WD or Seagate etc. Anything with Oxford 911+ or above work well with Macs.
    http://www.macsales.com/firewire/
    And avoid USB2 drives and get one with FireWire (and USB2), your drive should be formatted as GUID - check the drive (not volume or partition) in Disk Utility. It is changed by reformatting in Disk Utility: Partition -> Options.... (at bottom of screen) and there will be three options, you want GUID (not MBR).
    Is it bus powered or does it have its own power supply?
    It seems that your drive is older discontinued model?

  • What software are you guys using to encode the videos on the

    Ipod? I'm using windows and right now I'm using the 3gp converter for the psp to put the videos on my ipod. What's other good software what's going to give me the best quality? I don't care how big they are i just want the best quality. Thanks alot!

    I found this really grreat application! it "rips" a dvd and converts it to the setting the ipod can read. its called handbrake
    here is the site that will guide you through the process(really great website):
    http://arstechnica.com/guides/tweaks/ipod-video.ars/4
    be prepared to wait a while....it takes a long time! i have an ibook g4 and what i did was start the ripping on a couple of episodes of king of queens and then just closed the ibook and when i woke up in the morning it was done.....even when the ibook went to sleep(idk how..l0l)
    but yea try it out if thats what ur tryin to do...it works like a charm...real ez 2!
    hope this helps!
    btw- the quality is rather impressive 2!!!

  • What cases are you guys using?

    my ipod touch is incased in,
    http://www.walmart.com/catalog/product.do?product_id=8145073
    and then carried around in,
    http://www.seidioonline.com/ProductDetails.asp?ProductCode=CSL4IPH%2DH

    I tried the typical hard case...but I too found that the fm transmitter I was using wouldn't click in while I was using it. For that matter the USB cable wouldn't fit either. Other wise I thought it would protect my ipod decently. (I was worried about little specks of dirt sneaking in and scratching, but I didn't keep it that long.
    I used one of the rubber kind, but discarded it due to excessive bulk and it not being very pretty.
    I have one of the skins on my 30 G 5th Gen iPod, but its more of a sticker than anything, and I was disappointed with the outcome. (Though it does look awesome!)
    For the last 5 months or so I've been using this one: http://www.walmart.com/catalog/product.do?product_id=7983343 I love it! It looks nice, even though its a little bulky. I do have issues using it while I play some of the apps games since sometimes it wants to slide out.
    I had thought for the longest time that I needed a screen protector, but with the case I'm using I don't really feel that is necessary. Since recieving my iPod in December I have not received a single scratch, so I don't see getting one anytime soon.

  • How are you going to backup your system?

    Are you going to backup your files to an external hard drive? If so what?
    Are you doing to backup your files to your 2nd internal hard drive? How?

    RAID is not a backup
    Yes… it is. Backup is by definition is "the procedure for making extra copies of data in case the original is lost or damaged". Nothing more.
    With a RAID mirror you have two or more originals which makes it a backup. Does it provide an archive or revision history of your data… no. But that's beside the point. It is a backup. Does it protect you against all circumstances that results in data loss… no. Again, that's beside the point.
    A RAID mirror is still a backup,
    RAID is protection from hardware failure. If a drive dies, you have a full working copy of everything... that's great.
    Not always true! Under some RAID schemes a member failure will result in complete data loss. RAID is not always about "protection from hardware failure".
    Only something that archives… [snip]
    Not everyone is prepared to and sometimes not even capable of having such a rigourous scheme as you do. For the vast majority of users out there who have no contingency plan what so ever the best solution is in fact a RAID mirror as it's a no effort and cheap solution. It's a solution that protects against a very specific circumstance. For a more complete protection you are right, other means should make up the rest of the package.
    While RAID mirrors shouldn't be a standalone solution it should be considered as part of a complete scheme.

    There has got to be a backup product out there to allow a system to be backed up to a NAS or Drive attached to a server that is as simple as CrashPlan or TimeMachine but that actually work and don't cost $50/month for a system.
    Thoughts?
    CrashPlanPROe, the enterprise version, is $60 per year per client, not $50 per month, so it may be worth looking into. It's what we run and it's been working very well for us, though you need a central server to run the software. That server can be Windows, Mac OS X, Linux or Solaris, any of which will work with any of the supported clients:

    We tried Retrospect and had to return it for the limitation I mentioned above.

    There is no way to view a list of authorised computers. You can only tell a computer is authorised from that computer itself, from the store menu in iTunes.

  • What browser are you using with OS 9.x?

    Would you all please state which internet browser you are using with OS 9.x and the strengths/weaknesses you are experiencing with it?
    I switch back and forth between Mozilla and Internet Explorer but fewer and fewer websites work properly with them. If there is a better browser than those two I would add it to my old Wallstreet running 0S 9.1.
    Again, what browser are you using with OS 9.x and what are its good/bad points?
    Thanks!

    (Almost forgot
    I have an iCab filter set up for Yahoo on my OS 9.2.1 iMac.
    For the URL string I use (asterisk)yahoo(asterisk)
    For the Scripts filter I use the Netscape identity and have all versions checked except "JScript", and everything is checked in the "Allow" section.
    For the Network filter I use the Firefox identity and have the HTTP "referer" set to "Always".
    I don't use Yahoo Mail much on that machine, but those settings allow me to use the Address book to select addresses and send messages with attachments. (I'm not sure about viewing attachments, though, and I'm almost positive that address auto-complete doesn't work.)

    Hi,
    What camera are you using for you shot?Let share about the Semi Pro cam together: Fix Lens with manual Focus and Zoom,Affortable Price...

    Well, before I got my Digital Rebel XT I dreamed of the Powershot S2 IS. Then the S3 came out...but I was hookoed on my Rebel XT. I hear the S5 is a monster...
    Now, my 20D is probably more prosumer. I wouldn't call it a pro camera, although it is legendary for it's use on the sports areana and weddings by pros. For my money, any camera with a pop-up flash and automatic modes is not a pro camera. Having said that, I hope no one starts throwing eggs and tomatoes!

  • What application are you using for student collaboration?

    The only part that is missing from iTunes University is real time student collaboration. What application are you using to bridge the gap? Thanks, Ed

    Yeah, I'm not sure I know what you mean either.
    Q:  If you're asking which server-side code to use on Windows IIs Servers?
    A:  ASP or ASP.net and MSSql.  Since Microsoft built these languages, you would get the best support from MS Expression.
    If you're asking for software that helps you write code, you'll need to be more specific about which code you want to write and for what purpose.
