What happened to "Select All" for a contact in Address Book?

Use to be able to open a contact, "select all," and copy and paste a contact's info into an email or document. With Snow Leopard, "select all" only works with individual fields.
This is really a pain when I just want to grab a contact's info and paste it elsewhere.
Anyone find a way to select all?

I can confirm this. this strikes me as a usability bug. it was definitely possible in Leopard and I used to do it too. I don't see any workarounds but I urge you to file a bug report

How do you choose a picture from your iPhoto library for a contact in Address Book ?

Hello,
I have contacts on my Address Book application for which I would like to set a picture from my iPhoto library.
However, when double-clicking the picture square and select Choose..., I cannot access any pictures from my library. I can't even double click the library to show package content.
I would really dislke having to drag each picture on my desktop and I believe there is a way to easily access the iPhoto library for this. I just couldn't find the solution.

I did it like this: First, you should have assigned names to Faces in iPhoto - these names should match the respective ones you use in addressbook (like John Smith each time, not John Smith in iPhoto and Johnny S. in Addressbook). Then, in Addressbook, double-click the square for the photo as you did, but then do not click on Choose but rather on the small Faces icon on the bottom of the popup window. Addressbook should now provide you with all the "faces" iPhoto has for this name.

How to copy the same address for multiple contacts in Address Book?

Hi! I got a question, I didn't find an answer for yet.
How to copy the post address from one contact to another, without manual entering. I mean if I have one contact with already entered post address, can I just copy it someway at once to another contact?
I don't want cards to merge, I need separate contacts, that may have different phones, e-mails, but the same post address. Please, advise.

Thanks! yes, this is a solution I'm following now. But I was wondering about the similar way as it is made in Daylite or Contactizer - you create company with name and post address first, and then can create a contact for that company. And company name and post address will appear in contact name.
I just wonder why such a simple and useful solution isn't available in Address Book as default.
I know there are many scripts written for Address Book. Maybe there is something for this purpose?

Everything just disappered.
My info is the only thing that is there and it is outdated by about 3 years. I moved 3 years ago, and Address Book thinks I still have that old email address and physical address.
Thinking back - this probably happened after that recent security update.

It seems a lot of people have been experiencing the same problem for some time now. Just had one user at my office lose everything from his Address Book. The only solution appears to be to replace the addressbook.data file in user/library/application support/address book
So, hopefully you've got a backup somewhere, locally, on your Blackberry or .Mac.

Contacts in Address Book renaming themselves???

I have an annoying problem.
I have my contacts set to sort by last name.
I have entered family and some friends by first name only, and they sort as though that is he surname.
I just find it easier that way.
However, sometimes when I receive an email (think it has happened with SMS message also) on my iPhone 4, the senders surname is added to their contact details causing the Address Book to move the name.
It had not happened in a while until last week. It does not happen with all my contacts and there seems to be no common factors like email providers or devices used.
Plus, how the contact name displays changes too.
For example, my sister emails me regularly from both her MacBook and iPhone and sometimes her name appears in all lower case letters and sometimes it has the appropriate upper case letters with both first and last name. When I select the email to read it her name displays as just her first name as I have it in the Address Book. There is, again, no relation between the device she uses to send the email.
It is a minor issue, but irrupting because I cannot figure it out,

Move the backups to a safe place, delete originals, then in Mail>Select all>Messages>Add Senders to Address Book. Is that any different?
Also in Mail>Windows>Previous Recipients, might try select all & remove from list... or maybe just this step 1st as a test.
The hard way would be to add another field to AB & Jockey names around, maybe with Address Book Importer...

Can I overwrite contacts in Address book with my iPod Touch contacts?

I'm an idiot - I somehow managed to delete ALL of my contacts in Address book. I don't use Time Machine (not enough external HD space) so I can't restore that way.
I did happen to sync my iPod Touch shortly before I deleted everything so my contacts are fine there. Short of re-typing everything into Address Book, is there a way I can tell iTunes to overwrite my contacts with the ones from the iPod touch?
It's the only place I have my contacts - and because I enabled Google sync, it deleted all of my Google contacts too! HELP!!

If you sync, the contacts will be copied back into Address Book on your Mac. You should get an error message that pops from iSync (a warning about changing more than 5% of your data), which you should Allow.
In case you're worried, I have tested this (backed up my address book, then deleted the contents, then synced and my contacts were restored from my IPT).

You should have signed in with that address in the first place, but there is a workaround: go to System preferences>Mail, Contacts@ Calendars and add your @me.com address as an account there.

How to Create a Parameterized Report - The select "- ALL-" for department and manager not working.

I downloaded the OEHR Sample Objects application and followed the steps in Oracle® Application Express Advanced Tutorials
Release 3.2.
The parameters and report seem to be working correctly except when I enter "all" for department or manager I get no matching hits.
What's the most efficient way to retrieve "all" if the users selects all for dept and mgr - thus we'd want to return all records in the table.

What happened to "Save As" for pdfs in Lion? Now there's "Save a Version" which doens't appear to do anything, and Duplicate, which seems redundant...
How is this new approach saving me time?

It's not, but it's Apple.
Apple's approach with its Versions and Autosave features is to do away with the need to Save As altogether since the system's default "Save" feature already does this.
As you make changes to a document, the system should continuously save all prior versions of it automatically, and you should be able to access these at any time and then duplicate it to continue working. In this way, the system is to an extent always performing "Save As" commands and leaving prior versions in the past, so instead of proactively saving a new copy to preserve your current layout, this layout should exist as-is which you can go to by browsing the saved versions, and then duplicating to a new document to continue working if needed.

Using (Select All) for report parameter

Hi there,
I am Looking for assistance in making the the (Select All) option work for a particular report. The parameter is for product families (which there are about 47 unique results for). The report is also influenced by two other parameters, one being a date type
i.e 'MTD' 'YTD' 'MAT'. When a long date type such as MAT is selected, selecting all families causes the report to get stuck in an endless loop.
I've tried creating my own <Select All'> item in the parameter dataset, then I have the opposite issue, the <Select All> selection works perfectly but when I try and tick two or more product families I recieve the following error:
"An expressions of non-boolean type specified in a context where a condition is expected, near ',' "
Parameter Dataset:

I have check the query you have provided the issue cause by the query "
AND (item.family_code
IN (@Family)
OR @Family =
'<Select All>')" you are using which is incorrect.
If the parameter @Family have set as "Allow multiple values" then you don't need to add new label "Select All" for the multiple value parameter already have this section, if the parameter @Family is not the multiple values
parameter and you want to select all the values or just select one, you can modify the query as below which will works fine:
"AND (item.family_code =
(@Family) OR
@Family = '<Select All>'
If you are using the stored procedure and have issue about add multiple value parameter in the where clause, you are take reference to below similar case about how to create an function to make it work:

If I have some misunderstanding, please try to provide more details information about the relationship of all the parameters (Cascading or not ), current result you have got and expect result you want(Snapshot).

Lost all contacts in Address Book. How can I restore them?

I have inadvertently deleted all my contacts from Address Book, as a result of trying to delete them all from MS Outlook. (I deleted them from Outlook and they all vanished from Address Book too)
I gather I can restore them using Time Machine, which I have set up on a Time Capsule, but I've never used it before.
What is it that I restore to get my contacts back into Address Book please? I have tried restoring Address Book itself, but that doesn't seem to restore my contacts.

restoring the address book, restores the application but not the files.
Launch Address Book application and while opened, Launch the Time machine by clicking on its icon on the dock. Go back in time, confirm if you see all your contacts. This is what you need to establish and KNOW first else forget Time machine since its not there.
If its there, select all your contacts command + A then hit restore
If its not there. It will be difficult bringing it back, il be honest. you can go for data recovery but that's 50-50
