What happens to variables' values when cRIO reboots ?

Hi!
I'm currently developping a software program that will run on a cRIO as a startup program. I have to code a production counter to determine how many products passed the tests. A web server will used to sometimes check that counter...
What happens to the counter value if cRIO power supply is turned off ? Will the counter be reset to 0 when rebooting ? If yes, how to avoid this behaviour and restart with the last count ?
Solved!

That's what I tought ! I was trying to avoid programming a routine which stores data in file every time varaible's value change... and which may slow my RT program... But I guess I'll have to do so !

  • How Can i retain the Shared Variable Values after PC rebooting

    Hi all,
I am facing a paculiar problem with Shared Variables. I have an application in which shared variables are used for data communication.
One of the application requirement is to retain the variable values eventhough PC is rebooted or started after crashing.
As per the my understanding, the variable values will retain eventhough the PC is rebooted. But here i can observe a paculiar problem like some library variables are retaing the values while some others not. I enabled logging for all the variables.
I tried many ways. like logging enabled, logging disabled, changing variable names, changing process names etc... But i am not getting a consistent behaviour.
I hope some you can help me in solving this issue.. "How Can i retain the Shared Variable Values after PC rebooting"
    Thanks and Regards,
    Mir

    Hi Blackperl,
Thanks for the post and I hope your well.
What do you mean by not getting consistent behaviour.. this will all depend on excatly when the crash happens i.e. before the write or after.
Surely a better method would be to log the data to a file during the reboot...
I beleived the value read back
will be the default value for the shared variable's data type.
The LabVIEW DSC 8.0 module adds more functionality to the shared variable, including initial values and alarms.
If you enable an initial value on a shared variable, when the variable
engine comes back on-line it will default to this value. Setting a bad
status alarm for the shared variable is also a good way of handling
this type of event. Additionally, if you are using a LabVIEW Real-Time
target such as Compact RIO or Compact FieldPoint, it is appropriate to
consider hosting the shared variable engine on the real-time target.
These devices have watch-dog capabilities and are typically the
hardware controlling the critical pieces of an application. Most
Windows or PC-based targets do not have these fail-safes.
I guess, if you could explain to me again that would be great. From my point of view, if I have a cRIO and a Windows PC. If the windows PC crashes, the cRIO will still update its shared variables. Then once the PC has started up its own shared variable engine, and the bindings are loaded, it will once again continue to update its copies of the variables.
Please let me know what you think,
    Kind Regards,
    James.

  • What happens in EP technically when we click on some folder?

    Hi Experts,
I have following question - what happens in EP technically when user clicks on some folder?
I just want to know the exact sequence of events that takes place - I know some of the events like the role of user is checked. Then system checks that what all pages, iviews, etc have been been assigned to folder. The system then finally displays the all objects under the folder.
But I want to know in depth what happens some thing at core programming level.
In fact in my project we have created 2 folder. Some iviews have been assigned to folder.
Suppose name of folders are A and B. We want to pass value 1 to SAP BW when A is selected. We want to pass value 2 to SAP BW when B is selected.
    How we can do so?
    Pls help.
    Thanks

    Hi Kedar,
Thanks for the help. In fact in my project we have created separate folders.
For some functionality we have created 5 iviews and assigned it to folder A.
For some functionality we have created 5 iviews and assigned it to folder B.
We have to pass  Value Type = 1 to BW for iviews of folder A.
We have to pass  Value Type = 2 to BW for iviews of folder B.
How this can be done? Please help.
    Thanks

  • Keeping variable values when using an LMS

I have a program that uses variables for a branching, allowing me to mark what branch the student has completed.  It works when you preview the course.  When I publish to the LMS and take the course it works if I go straight through.  But if I leave the course and then pick it up were I left off the variables that were set showing completion of the course no longer show the completion information.  How can I maintain the variable values when the student exits the course?

Hi dmv@Morgan and welcome to the forums!
Here's what I've found to be true for my LMS:
If you set a default value for the variable in the variables panel, then the variable will be reset to that default value when the course resumes.
If you don't set a default value, then the LMS suspend data (aka resume data) will populate the variable with the previous value from the previous attempt.
Let us know how it goes,

iTunes 7 will convert your existing library, but iTunes 6 and earlier will not recognize the new library format.

Front Row is no longer supported. However, there are several applications that can do the same job for you (quite nicely, actually) and that work with ML. Try searching the Mac App Store. Also: there are uncountable threads about this over at the Front Row forum.

    Welcome to the Apple community.
Once you have restored your new phone from the backup of your old phone and ensured that everything is working correctly, you should first turn off "find my phone" on the old phone and then erase it, before you get rid of it.

The problem I've been having is when I try to upload photos to my blogspot blog.  I CAN  find them on Iphoto but they aren't there when I'm going through my blog to upload them.  Does that make sense?

    Yes.

Any time you sync an iphone/ipod touch/ipad to a new computer, then the current content will be erased and replaced with content form the new computer.  You need to copy everything from your old computer or your backup copy of your old computer to your new one.

  • HT4707 what happens to Keychain data when I move to iCloud?

what happens to Keychain data when I move to iCloud? Can I still access Keychain passwords?

    Thanks Carolyn,
And yes. Keychain does still work.
But why-oh-why do Apple have to give contradictory information yet again in the sign up process? It seems they just want to cover their arses so much that they would rather give out misleading information, that something might go wrong, just in case it does, than tell us everything will be OK & then if we lose data, we, (Americans with a penchant for litigation), are automatically going to sue thier bollocks off.
This happens so many times with pop-up warnings. I'm running two macs & an iphone and I very nearly didn't go for Lion & icloud and seriously considered going back to Windows. Only a chance conversation in an Apple store stopped me and made me persevere through the warnings.
    Cheers,
    Steve
