What has happened to fixed length ?

I remember forms3 had a fixed length item property, which enforced entry of the maximum number of characters. I just tried to use it in 10g and it seems to have disappeared. When did that happen ? Is there another method we are supposed to use or does it require a validation trigger ?

'Fixed Length' Data property was obsoleted in Forms9i. It existed in 6i. Some of the substitutes for this are:
1. Use Format Masks: In the Data section of the Property Palette, there is a Property Called 'Format Mask', we need to put the values in it as follows
For Character Fields - AAAAAA
For numeric Fields - 999999.
2. Code a when-validate-item trigger
The advantage of the first option is that it avoids a procedure call but will display a FRM error when the user entered value does not match. In the second option, a more friendly message/alert can be shown.

    While I don't use a Mac, I belive you connect the device to the computer via USB and then import the file using a file utility similar to what you do when you import digital pictures. I'm guessing that the Mac has something like this?

  • I use to stream music from my iphone to my airport express via my stereo, it no longer is an option on the radio app. what has happened?

    Not sure what has happened to my airport expres but I can no longer stream music to my stereo via the TuneIn Radio app or using my macbook pro, need help in fixing this problem.

    UPDATE:
    I have been stress testing StreamToMe in the house and  "out in the wild" and it is working very well.  There are one or two clunky steps in order to switch from the in-my-house wifi to the cellular network but it's just better (to me) than uploading about 750 GB of music that is restricted by iTunes rules and limitations to "the cloud".   The major advantage is that this solution plays more file formats than iTunes will.  In addition, I can access music files anywhere on my mac - even if they are not in my iTunes library. Playlists from iTunes are available, too.
    I am not associated with this company in any way.  I am astounded that there are not more solutions available and that there are not more people discussing this issue.  Subscription models like Spotify are great and the cloud is fine for those that don't have large libraries  But when I have a humongous library and I don't want to move it around up and down to someone else's server or pay to access it after I have already paid for it I find the lack of ease of doing this baffling.
    I hope that this info can help someone looking for information relating to this type of solution...

  • Firefox, all the sudden, will now load the site but will not let me go to a chat area in the website, what has happened?

    I have a site that i am on all the time and have never had a problem at all using it, but the other day all the sudden i could log into the site but when i go to use the chat room feature in the site i get kicked back out to the sign in area. I have used on other comp to make sure not site and have been able use w Internet Explorer... So i am at a loss as to what has happened all the sudden. Please help me...very frustrated w this...     Original problem I noticed was that regular websites I go to (such as msn) were only partially downloading.  I could see the text on the site but no pictures or videos.  All web surfing was extremely slow.  When I would go to a site such as man I would see another address in the lower left corner for "ads1.msads.net" or "cdn.optimizely.com" that is was trying to connect to. I tried using all three of my browsers (firefox, safari, chrome) and got the same response on all browsers.  After I spent some time researching the issue I decided I probably had a adware/malware problem so I decided to try adwaremedic.com.  I could also not access that site along with thesafemac.com or apple.com.  I was also getting the same response on my other devices (iPhone, iPad, and a mac air).  I could not access any of these sites on any of my devices although I could get to almost any other site although it was very slow.  At that point I decided to unplug the router.  I also did a number of other things before then to try and manually get rid of any adware.  Eventually I got msn back working, apple.com, and the speed was much faster.  But, I still can not access adwaremedic and thesafemac.com.  I could access these on my phone with 3G but not on my wifi.  This is where the problem still stands.  I am sure I still have some adware on my computer and need to find a way to remove it.  I am no techie so the complicated manual fixes are difficult for me to do.

    Try this first. Turn Off your iPad. Then turn Off (disconnect power cord) the wireless router & then back On. Now boot your iPad. Hopefully it will see the WiFi.

  • HELP what has happened to email

    His just gone into my emails this evening and the look of them has changed!! they were as normal this morning, anyone help as to what has happened!!! Also have an email that I cannot delete there is no box to tick?

  • Didn't put on keypad lock. What has happened to my...

    I have a Nokia 1600.
    As the title says I didn't put on keypad lock and when it came to making a call I got the message 'Check operator services'. Went over settings and everything fine, I have credit and signal is strong.
    What has happened to the phone? How can I fix it? I'm confident the network isn't busy. The website says something about switching from line 1 and 2; has that anything to do with it?

    Here in the Philippines, whenever we encounter that error, it means two things:
    1. You do not have any network coverage (dead spot).
    2. you don't have call credits to make a call.

  • Does anyone know what has happened to Softmatic Barcode Maker on the App store?

    I bought this App a few months ago, and it worked fine. Then updated it a few weeks ago and worked even better. However I tried to load it today and it just crashes on startup. Have tried restating my MBP and it still doesn't work. I can't re-install because it is nolonger available on the App store, and furthermore, the publisher seems to have dissappeared completely! The web address softmatic.com doesn't go anywhere, and googling doesn't turn up any useful info.
    Does anyone have any ideas of what I can do to fix the software?
    Or what has happened to Softmatic?
    Or if I will have any kind of comebak with the App Store regarding this App?
    Any help would be greatly appreciated – I'm stumped!

    I've rather wondered myself. I hadn't used the bar code software, but did download and try the free Gradient Pro. It worked very nicely. I had a question and one problem, support was iin contact within an hour with both the answer and a fix for the problem. The next day they posted an updated version with the fix as part of the update. I was very impressed. The next day, they were *poof*.
    I still use the app, have the manual page downloaded from before, but they have vanished online. Too bad. They had some great plans in store for new features.

    First, empty the Trash if you haven't already done so. Then reboot. That will temporarily free up some space.
    When it comes to clearing space on a drive, you have to decide how much to clear.
    According to Apple documentation, you need at least 9 GB of available space on the startup volume (as shown in the Finder Info window) for normal operation. You also need enough space left over to allow for growth of your data.
    Although you may be told by other contributors to this site that you should keep some fixed percentage (such as 10% or 15%) of the space on the boot drive available, that advice has no basis in fact as far as I can tell. The amount of available space you need depends on your usage pattern. I don't know how much you should have, and I don't make recommendations based on what I don't know. It should certainly be more than 9 GB.
    If your data collection is growing quickly, then, depending on the size of the startup volume, you may need more than 10% available space in order to avoid the risk of filling it up, which can lead to a boot failure. If your data is relatively static, you may need less than 10%. I've seen no evidence that there's a loss of performance when available space falls below any threshold higher than the one Apple recommends. Available storage space that you'll never use is wasted space.
    If you're using Time Machine to back up a portable Mac, some of the available space will be used to make local snapshots, which are backup copies of files you've recently deleted. The space occupied by local snapshots is reported as available by the Finder, and should be considered as such. In the Storage display of System Information, local snapshots are shown as "Backups." The snapshots are automatically deleted when they expire or when free space falls below a certain level. You ordinarily don't need to, and should not, delete local snapshots yourself.
    About local snapshots
    Use a tool such as OmniDiskSweeper (ODS) to explore your volume and find out what's taking up the space. You can delete files with it, but don't do that unless you're sure that you know what you're deleting and that all data is safely backed up. That means you have multiple backups, not just one.
    Proceed further only if the problem hasn't been solved.
    ODS can't see the whole filesystem when you run it just by double-clicking; it only sees files that you have permission to read. To see everything, you have to run it as root.
    Back up all data now.
    Install ODS in the Applications folder as usual.
    Launch the Terminal application in any of the following ways:
    ☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
    ☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
    ☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
    Triple-click the line of text below to select it, then drag or copy — do not type — into the Terminal window:
    sudo /Applications/OmniDiskSweeper.app/Contents/MacOS/OmniDiskSweeper
    Press return. You'll be prompted for your login password, which won't be displayed when you type it. You may get a one-time warning not to screw up.
    I don't recommend that you make a habit of doing this. Don't delete anything while running ODS as root. If something needs to be deleted, make sure you know what it is and how it got there, and then delete it by other, safer, means.
    When you're done with ODS, quit it and also quit Terminal.

    ‘iPad is disabled’ fix without resetting using iTunes
    Today I met my match with an iPad that had a passcode entered too many times, resulting in it displaying the message ‘iPad is disabled – Connect to iTunes’. This was a student iPad and since they use Notability for most of their work there was a chance that her files were not all backed up to the cloud. I really wanted to just re-activate the iPad instead of totally resetting it back to our default image.
    I reached out to my PLN on Twitter and had some help from a few people through retweets and a couple of clarification tweets. I love that so many are willing to help out so quickly. Through this I also learned that I look like Lt. Riker from Star Trek (thanks @FillineMachine).
    Through some trial and error (and a little sheer luck), I was able to reactivate the iPad without loosing any data. Note, this will only work on the computer it last synced with. Here’s how:
    1. Configurator is useless in reactivating a locked iPad. You will only be able to completely reformat the iPad using Configurator. If that’s ok with you, go for it – otherwise don’t waste your time trying to figure it out.
    2. Open iTunes with the iPad disconnected.
    3. Connect the iPad to the computer and wait for it to show up in the devices section in iTunes.
    4. Click on the iPad name when it appears and you will be given the option to restore a backup or setup as a new iPad (since it is locked).
    5. Click ‘Setup as new iPad’ and then click restore.
    6. The iPad will start backing up before it does the full restore and sync. CANCEL THE BACKUP IMMEDIATELY. You do this by clicking the small x in the status window in iTunes.
    7. When the backup cancels, it immediately starts syncing – cancel this as well using the same small x in the iTunes status window.
    8. The first stage in the restore process unlocks the iPad, you are basically just cancelling out the restore process as soon as it reactivates the iPad.
    If done correctly, you will experience no data loss and the result will be a reactivated iPad. I have now tried this with about 5 iPads that were locked identically by students and each time it worked like a charm.

  • I don't know what has happened but I can't open iPhoto. When I try to open it I receive a caution "The iPhoto Library is locked, on a locked disk, or you do not have permission to make changes to it." How do I solve this??!!

    I don't know what has happened but I now can't open iphoto. I get a caution when I try which says the iphoto library is locked! It was working perfectly fine this afternoon until I tried to upload some photos from my camera and my computer started to run very slow and wasn't recognising my camera. I tried to quit iphoto and then when I came back in to it, this was the message I received. As far as I am aware I didn't alter any settings or put on any locks. Please help!!

    What version of iPhoto? Assuming 09 or later...
    Option 1
    Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Rebuild iPhoto Library Database from automatic backup.
    If that fails:
    Option 2
    Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords back.
    Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one. .
