What if I want to link to an image on an external site, such as Pixentral or Flickr, instead of uploading the image to the Forum server?

Flickr's Terms of Service  state that if you post an image hosted on Flickr on another site you have to  link back to the image page on Flickr. To do that you  need to go to your image  on Flickr, click on the All Sizes link above the image,  select the size image  you want, then Copy the HTML code from the first box of code underneath the  image. Then, in the Forum's Rich Text Editor, click on  the >> button/icon  and select Insert Raw HTML. This will open a frame  within your message where  you paste the HTML code you copied from the Flickr  site. Then continue on with  composing your forum message and click “Post Message”  to post the message to  the forum system.
For Pixentral images, you  will need to go to http://www.pixentral.com and upload your image following the  instructions there. You do NOT have to check the box to make images public. Once  your image is uploaded there copy the HTML code from the box below your image.  Then, in the Forum's Rich Text Editor, click on  the >> button/icon and  select Insert Raw HTML. This wil open a frame within your message where you  paste the HTML code you copied from the Pixentral site. Please note that there  is an extra "/" character in the Pixentral URL that will prevent the image from  showing up, so you need to make one change to the HTML that you copied from the  Pixentral site. The beginning of the HTML code  will look something like  this:

Please remove the slash that appears between the quotes and the greater  than symbol so that this  part of the HTML code looks like this:

Thanks for fixing the "backslash" error. Accuracy is important, and doubly so when presented as an F.A.Q.
The sad thing is how prevalent the usage of "backslash" is when a plain old slash is meant (generally, the "forward" attribute is assumed and unneeded), and by people who should know better. It's a direct result of people knowing just barely enough about the Windows file path naming protocols, and then applying the only terminology they're familiar with incorrectly to URLs.
I went about 10 rounds—TWICE!—with a labyrinthian succession of people at the Discovery & History cable TV networks because they were saying "backslash" in voice overs whenever their commercials promoted their websites. It took some doing, but I finally got in touch with somebody who was savvy enough to recognize that it was a rookie mistake made by a clueless marketing copywriter. The voice over person just read the copy they were given, oblivious to the difference. It amazes me that it wasn't caught by somebody early in the recording/production process and rectified.
They then had it correct for about a year, until new commercials started popping up with the same error. Unfortunately, the person I had talked to previously no longer worked for the History channel and I had to go through the process of finding someone who understood all over again.
Yeah, you can call me a nitpicker with nothing better to do.
But I've earned that dang badge, and I wear it proudly!

    The Mac Mini is going to be used for an Internet connection on the Pioneer Plasma/receiver so I can also play stored films from a seperate hard drive. The receiver has an HDMI connection which I have connected the Mac Mini too. the picture is fine, but there is no sound. I have checked the 'sound' settings on the Mac Mini and it registers the Pioneer PDP receiver is connected but states it has no audible connection?

    ExtendScript does not support the ODBC API.
    A while ago I spent some (too much) time on a plugin that would add the required calls, but found the ODBC calling conventions extremely unfriendly and beyond what typical scripters would be willing to bear.
    There are other solutions around that will help you with ODBC connectivity and many further related tasks, typically they are called catalog-something. Typical disadvantage is the price tag.
    An alternative would be to write a bunch of JS wrapper classes, and invoke platform specific code via DoScript. If you're targeting Windows, Google for "ADO VBA".
    Finally, you can also export to XML and use scripting on that.

    I fixed this problem. It was pretty easy.
    First, in the address bar, type in " about:config " .
    When it asks if you are sure about making changes & it may void the warranty, click "yes--I promise I'll be careful" or something along those lines. (I heard there is no warranty, & it's just a joke)
    Once you get to the new screen, find " browser.link.open_newwindow "
    You will see the # 3 on the same line. Change that value to 1.

    I sugggest you try my application, Dates to iCal. It is shareware with a 2 week trial period.
    Dates to iCal 2 is a replacement for Apple's birthday calendar for iCal. It has a range of features to allow the user to choose what, and what not, to sync to iCal from Address Book.
    As well as automatically syncing birthday dates from Address Book, Dates to iCal 2 can sync anniversary and custom dates. It can set up to five alarms for each date in iCal and can also set different alarms for birthdays and anniversaries. It allows the option of only syncing from one Address Book group.     I try to open attachments in emails and they will not open! A box comes up asking 'what do I want to open the file with', and it wants me to select from a list of options like - Firefox, IE, Word, Yahoo Browser. When I make a selection (usually Firefox) a new tab opens with a blank page! This always happens on attachments, links, websites......everything!

    These files were lost two years ago.
    That's not consistent with what you wrote in your first message. I can't help you unless I know what's going on. Either you do, or do not, have backups of all the data you want to keep. If you do not, then the first thing you need to do is back up those files. It makes zero sense to do anything else. In order to back up, you'll need either of two things: another Mac, in working order, with a FireWire port and enough space on its internal drive to hold your files; or an external drive, also with enough space.
    On the other hand, if you do have backups, or if you simply don't care about any of the data, then the solution to your problem may be quite simple. All you have to do is boot from your installation disc (your profile says you're running Mac OS 10.5), erase your internal drive, reinstall the Mac OS, then restore your data from backup. You will need to be selective in restoring software, because incompatible software may be what caused the issue.
    But it's also possible that you have a hardware failure, in which case you can't get your computer working again until it's repaired.

    I am a community college student in Eastern North Carolina. This past summer my laptop of several years finally ground it's last gear and since then I have been without a laptop. I do not receive financial aid, or help of any kind, paying for my classes and textbooks so I was going to go to my local Wal-Mart and just buy the cheapest laptop they had so I could complete my assignments. I said as much in one of my classes and my professor who happens to have all Apple Products had a lot to say. Yet I am still unsure of a few things and need some clarifications before I make a purchase (I have read everything I can find, but I am worried I've misread or misinterpreted something):
    What I need to be able to do:Write / Create:
    Research Papers
    Excel Documents
    Power Point Presentations
    Create, Open, Edit, Save and Send the above type of files so they can be opened, edited, saved and sent on Windows 7 Microsoft Office 2010
    Surf the Internet (I am aware that Safari fulfills this need)
    Back-up my files, pictures, music, videos, etc. on an external harddrive should (God forbid) something happen to whatever product I purchase. (I feel much safer with a hard copy)
    Stream online video(s) and audio to complete assignments for classes.
    Carry my product with me all day, every day. (I leave home at 6am and rarely get home before 9pm)
    What I want to be able to do:
    Keep track of assignments, appointments, and work schedule
    Have my music, videos, and pictures with me while I am on-the-go
    Watch an occasional movie from iTunes or Netflix without using all of my available memory
    Consolidate! (My bookbag is extremely heavy from lugging around textbooks, notebooks, and various items and supplies for both work and school)
    PURCHASE eTextbooks (CourseSmart offers only rentals, and as a Psychiatric Social Work major I want to keep some of my psychology and social work textbooks as references later on down the road. Purchased eTextbooks can't be ruined, lost, or stolen like printed textbooks and so seem the smarter choice)

    I had a lot of music on iTunes, but have forgotten my password. Since I no longer attend the school which provided the e-mail account I had (stupidly) linked to my iTunes Account there is no way to find out my password.     The ipad is certainly no replacement for a computer/laptop.
    It is used in conjunction with a laptop/computer. It is simply a big ipod/iphone.
    I would not even consider the ipad for your needs.

  • What Do Users Want Skype To Be?

    This is a question to the rest of the Skype userbase: what do you want skype to be for you?
    I'll start it off.
    1) I want skype to be a free and minimalist text messenger, group chat, conference call and conference video call client. All functionality should be around optimizing the experience of these 4 activities. That means streamlined functionality for these purposes--fast, error free, no disconnects, no user problems. It also means no superfluous functionality--ads, unecessarily complex emoticons, bulky left panel that can't be separated from the individual chats, etc.
    2) I want chat to be compact and minimalist, or at least customizable so I can make it minimalist (no bulky chat bubbles, not even on mobile--it's even worse on mobile where pixel real-estate is more valuable than on a 1080 monitor).
    3) I want no ads. Microsoft is a big enough company that they can market some higher quality version of skype for professional use. But there must remain free and available chat, group chat, conference call and conference video call for an unlimited number of users. Find another way to make money or an open-source alternative will undercut you.
    4) The mobile app MUST be severely streamlined. It is easily one of the worst, bulkiest, slowest, most poorly designed apps I've used. It autoscrolls when new messages are sent which means I can't read logs without being interrupted. It crashes frequently. It uses more memory and CPU time than any other app despite being one of the simplest and feature-poor apps on my phone.
    5) Make the UI less bulky. There is so much dead space on the skype UI. The actual chat represents only ~50% of the actual volume of the UI when at a reasonable size. The left side-bar is too big, especially with no hideable functionality. The titlebars, ads, and even text box all have huge, white dead-zones.
    Bottom line: streamline the Skype codebase, streamline the UI, streamline the options we have as users and stop adding/removing/breaking things each update just to appear fresh. Keep what works, fix what doesn't.

    The computer (windows platform) where I initially began using Itunes has four other computers/devices that are shared with it. All four of the other computers show up in my account, and can be managed. Or I can remove them. But on the new computer that I want to be my base computer (home if you will). The computer I want it to replace, when ITunes is open, has a tool bar, with various functions. All of the other devices are linked to that computer in ITunes, under Home SHaring. The new computer, shows the downloads via Home Sharing, but it does not show/have any tool bar.
    I want to activate the new computer to be the computer via ITunes where all of the devices are linked to it as the base for ITunes. And, I don't know how to make that happen.
    I hope that makes sense.

    I want to link to a specific place within a document from Captivate4.
    I have no trouble linking to the beginning of a document; however I want to be able to link to a specific chapter/area of a document I am creating. My plan is that as people progress through the e-learning they can link back to the electronic manual I am creating from where they left off.
    I have a workaround of creating separate documents and linking to them, but this is time consuming and messy.
    Does anyone have any ideas of what I can do; I have looked around the forums and, unless I am blind, can't find anything like I am looking for.

    However, those are just examples of what you need. You can buy another hdmi-cable that is longer. The modern HD TV's have Hdmi inputs, so I believe that won't be a problem.

    You can specify in Windows what program to use for a given extension, for instance Adobe Acrobat Reader, for files with PDF extension.     In Firefox PDF links get opened automatically with Acrobat reader. When clicking on PDF attachments in Thunderbird, however, you will need to associate the program and the extension as described in the above article.
