What is a PowerBook G4 Titanuim 17-Inch worth?

I have a PowerBook G4 Titanium 17-Inch that I am trying to sell online. I have installed 512 extra MB of Ram and it has a 40GB hard drive. I also put 10.5.6 on it, with many other fancy programs. I estimated the whole computer at $800. Is this correct? What would be a good cost for this computer. It has iLife '07 on it, and iWork '09, plus all of the new Adobe Suite programs (i.e. InDesign, Photoshop, etc.). Thanks for the help!

Hi, sammywol, and welcome to Apple Discussions.
There is no such thing as a Titanium 17" Powerbook. If it has a 17" display, it's Aluminum. Its value will depend on the speed of its processor, its age, its visible (exterior) condition, the size of its hard drive (40GB is tiny nowadays — much smaller than any drive that was ever shipped from the factory in any 17" Powerbook).
Use this article to identify your Powerbook model accurately, before you advertise it falsely.
Any commercial software that you've installed on the Powerbook will be pirated and illegal — and will have no market value at all — unless you also give the original installation discs for all of it to the buyer of the machine. If you do that, any copies that you keep of the software will be pirated and illegal. The only software you are obliged to provide with the machine is the software that was originally supplied with it, and you should include the PB's original Install and Restore CDs or DVDs in the price of the machine, just as they were included originally. You can't buy and keep commercial software for your own use, then sell copies of it to anyone else, with or without a computer: that's a clear violation of the law.

Water damage isn't covered by warranty, but you could always purchase a refurbished device from Apple.

  • Powerbook g4 (1Ghz) 15 inch,Which software restore disk do I need

Hello, I recently acquired a powerbook 15 inch g4 1Ghz laptop. I dont know alot about apple laptops. It did not come with any system disks. I wanted to do a complete harddrive wipe and use a system install/restore disk to start with a fresh hard drive. What restore disks do I need to do this. The laptop has a superdrive. Will any system install/restore disk work if it says "15 inch powerbook". Or is there only one specific /original disk that will work with it. Thanks Dave

Hi, David, and welcome to Apple Discussions. A 15" PB G4 could be either the last Titanium model, with most of its ports on the back, or the first 15" Aluminum model, with all its ports on its end panels.
Your best bet in either case may be to buy a retail OS X installer disc set. Either model mentioned above can comfortably run the latest version of OS X 10.4.x ("Tiger"), though if you now have only 256MB of installed RAM, you'll soon want to add more to make Tiger really happy. Alternatively, either model could also run OS X 10.3.x ("Panther"), which would be a bit less expensive now that it's not the latest and greatest version. But if I were you, I'd buy Tiger and be up to date from the outset.
Duplicates of the original discs that were shipped with the Powerbook when it was new may (or may not) still be available for a nominal fee directly from Apple — by phone only, not through the online Apple Store. But those discs will install OS X 10.2.x ("Jaguar"), an earlier and markedly inferior OS version. You would then have to purchase the upgrade to 10.3.x or 10.4.x if you decided you wanted it later. Better to start right off with it.
Do NOT buy an OS installer set that is specific to (was originally shipped with) any Mac model other than yours. It is very likely not to install at all, and if it does, the installation is apt to be flaky or nonfunctional. You should consider ONLY a retail set, or a duplicate of the original set that went with your PB when it was new.

  • What FireWire cable does the Intel 24 inch iMac use?

I am trying to transfer settings and stuff from an iMac G4 computer to my new iMac 24 inch Intel based. What kind of FireWire cable do I need? The gal from Apple said 4800? I'm having trouble locating it. I need to know what to search for online.

If you have a FireWire 400 cable then all you need is a 400 to 800 Adapter.

  • What type of powerbook is mine?

I see people refer to laptop as wallstreet etc...
I have the 400mhz/64MB/6GB/DVD with a bronze keyboard.
Is this a certain type or just a basic G3?
I bought i brand new in 99 and only have been using it for internet so 9.2.2 has been ok for me this long. I have many other computers but thought about upgrading this to OS X. Before I purchase one I want to make sure it will support one of the version, panther, jaguar, or tiger.
I know I need to upgrade the ram. I was wondering if there is any difference in the RAM used in a MAC. Can I order any PC133 sodimm sdram? I know it will only take 384 MB maxed out and I plan on ordering a 256mb to add to my current 64 this way I don't have to access the "apple tech only slot."
    Thanks for any help

    Clark,
I think you should wait on ordering any parts until you are sure the Lombard runs. I know you are waiting for the power adapter but you possibly may have some other hardware failure.
Once you have determined the powerbook is sound, and you are certain you want to run OSX, this will be your memory situation:
    - The Lombard came configured with a 64MB memory module from the factory, and it is installed in the lower slot, the so-called 'Apple tech slot'.
    - •IF• you have a Lombard that cannot run any memory in the top slot with OSX, you will want to install a low-profile 256MB module in the lower slot after removing your 64MB module. This will be the maximum amount of memory you can run.
    - If in fact your Lombard does not have the suspect CPU, you can just leave the 64MB module in the lower slot and buy a standard-height 256MB for the top slot for a total of 320MB.
However, I would recommend this: Spend the additional $10 for the low-profile 256; it can be used in either slot. In addition, I cannot guarantee that the version number of the "bad" CPU that PPC Checker reports is the only CPU that has a problem with OSX, but that is the number most commonly associated with this problem. If you left the 64MB in the lower slot and put a standard-height 256MB in the top slot, you would not be able to move the 256MB to the lower slot if you had trouble with OSX. Buying the low-profile is kind of an insurance for all contingencies.
It is, however, quite easy to remove the microprocessor card to access the lower slot. Here is a photo guide:
    http://www.ifixit.com/Guide/31.0.0.html
The above guide includes removing additional parts but it is describing a full disassembly of the Lombard. All you need to do is lay the keyboard face down on the palm rest, remove the heat shield, then lift out the card...lower memory slot is on the underside of the card.
I would also read this Apple PDF for replacing memory in the lower slot of the Powerbook (FireWire). There is no PDF for your Lombard, but these two 'books are sisters with only minor differences.

  • I have a budget of $2,200 and I don't know what to buy; The MacBook Pro 15 inch for $2,199 or the MacBook Pro w/ Retina Display for $2,199. I LOVE playing games but I don't know which one would play games faster.Take note that I wont upgrade anything.

The MBP w/ Retina Display is 2.3GHz but the other without Retina Display is 2.6GHz. So I don't know which one would play games absolutely flawlessly. I wont have the screen resolution so high on the games though. So can someone reply and tell me which one I should get and why?

Mac's are generally not 3D gaming computers and laptops especially are not because 3D games require a upgraded video card to take advantage of newer games and more feature rich updates.
Only the Mac Pro can one change the video card, if one can find a upgrade for it.
If you really love 3D gaming, a Windows 7 3D gaming tower is your machine.
    http://www.cbscores.com/index.php?sort=ogl&order=desc
3D gaming on a Mac is sort of a second hobby, it's rather short lived as one can't replace the video card once a year, only with a new machine purchase.
Most 3D games are for Windows anyway and Apple almost demands OS X be upgraded to newer verisons annually now, so that sort of throws a monkey wrench into a Mac gaming rig with software upgrades and all. On the other hand Windows 7 is supported for a decade.
Mac's just don't work well with 3D gaming, perhaps a Win 7 tower and a iPad or something.

  • Is Macbook Pro 15-inch worth the money?

Is the entry level Macbook Pro 15 inch with specs at the time of this writing worth the money ? I am a student who does the usual school stuff, web surfing, and quite heavy gaming(Like FIFA).I am considering to purchase a Macbook as I was enticed by its design and Mac OS Lion's smooth, fun and enjoyable user interface. Having taken a number of trips to Apple Stores, I actually want to buy the 15" Pro(13" can't run FIFA and 17" is too heavy)) However, one can never know if I he or she does not actually try it out. So, I want to ask all users who use Macbook Pro 15, are Mac OS X and design things that are worth extra money for?

They are to me.  Whether they are or not to you, no one but you can say.
Honestly, the question you have asked is impossible for anyone to answer.  For those responding who own a MBP, especially people like myslef who have been buying and using Apple laptops since before the iBook, the answer will be yes, they are worth it to us (why else would we keep buying Apple laptops?).
It's purely a personal decision as only you can decide what is "worth it" to you.
I primarily buy Apple hardware because I prefer the OS X operating system over the alternatives (Windows or Linux, while OS X gives me the perfect blend of CLI UNIX and a GUI), and I have been very satisfied with their hardware as well.

  • What would you say my gaming rig is worth?

    Bluedevil58 wrote:
I've been offered $700 for the entire set up.If that's true, take it. You're not going to get anything near that from someone who knows how to shop.

I know this is a high level question but just throw a ball park figure at me.  This rig was built in 2010.  But has been upgraded several times.  It's a custom built gaming setup and I have had no hard ware issues what so ever as to date aside from a occasional format due to blue screen of death issues.
    It has:
    - A gaming case that has room for growth.  Not sure of the name.
    - First gen i7 processor
    - 8GB RAM
    - 120 GB SSD and 500 GB HD
    - RADEON 7800 HD Graphics card.
    - 1 24 inch LCD monitor and 1 24 inch IPS monitor.
    - Naga Razer gaming mouse.
At a rough estimate.  What would you expect to spend on a rig like this?  I am looking to sell this.
