What is a "res" on board pinout?

I have an MSI 865PE motherboard, running an Intel chip.  I put this together in April 2006, and it's been running fine ever since.  Today when I booted up, I didn't!  No power to anything.  Took out my power supply and went to a local computer shop, which tested it and said it was shot.  Purchased a new Thermaltake TR-2-500W power supply.  Brought it home and performed the 'out-of-box test' in the power supply manual, and it worked fine.  Installed it into the tower and hooked everything up, and the "stand-by" light on the power supply comes on, but nothing happens when I hit the power on switch.  Checked all my connections, and nothing seems strange.  Compared the pin-outs between the motherboard and the power supply, and everything matches up, with these exceptions: pin 12 on board is a no-connect, while +3.3v is put there by the power supply; pin 8 is termed "PWR OK" on the motherboard, but termed "PWR_ON" on the supply (which could be the same thing?); but the one thing that's very strange to me is that pin 20 is a no-connect on the power supply--but is termed "RES" on the motherboard.  My working assumption is that the motherboard wants some potential at pin 20, but the supply is not putting anything there.  Any suggestions, or can someone define "RES?"  The power supply I replaced was a 430W, ATX 12V, and the Thermaltake is a 500W, ATX 12V, so I don't see any problem with the supply.  I phoned the local shop back and he said he didn't know anything about MSI boards, but that as long as my motherboard wants an ATX form factor, it should work with no problem.  Any suggestions would be appreciated.  Thanks.

Check the case mounting standoffs to verify that they are lining up correctly with the mounting holes on the motherboard.

  • ISE - What happens when the on-boarded certificate expires?

I'm trying to design a good BYOD deployment model but have a few questions that need direct answers.  I have down how to go about on-boarding and getting a certificate on a device, the ISE provides great flow for this to happen in many ways.  My questions come from a design perspective before and after the BYOD deployment is completed.
    1. Figuring out a method to validate the device is a Corporate asset or a BYOD asset.
(I don't want to install a certificate on just any device, or perhaps I do but I need to give permissions to all resources if its a Corporate Device, and more resitrictions if it's BYOD, so how do I figure this out during the provisioning phase?)
         a. Use MDM (May not have one, or if you do we are still waiting on ISE 1.2 for that integration)
         b. Build a Group for provisioning admins, if user PEAP-MSCHAPv2 account is from this group install a certificate. (issue here is that the end user looses administration of the device in the my device portal as the device is now registered to the provisioning admin)
         c. Pre-populate MAC into ISE as all Corporate devices should be provisioned by I.T. before they go to the end user (I think this is good but can see push back from customers as they don't want to add more time to the process)
         d. Certs on any IOS or Android device, provide access based on user group and do not worry if device is Company asset or not (I believe that this is the easiest solution and seems to be what I find in the guides)
         e. Other options I have not thought about, would love input from the crowd
    2. What happens to the device once the Certificate expires?
(I don't know the answer to this, my thought would be the user or device will fail during the authentication policy and this creates a mess)
         a. Tell the user to delete the profile so they can start all over again (creates help desk calls and frustrated users)
         b. Use MDM for Cert management (may not have one)
         c. Perhaps the client uses SCEP to renew based on the cert template renew policy and there are no issues (this is me wishing)
Would appreciate some feed back and would like to know if anyone has run into these issues.

    Neno,
Sorry but I don't have any other info on using a public CA, Cisco says to use internal CA's for PKI.  I think the best practice in 1.2 comes out will be to use one interface for Web Management and a different interface for Radius, profiling, posture, and on boarding.  This way you can use your private CA for EAP and a public CA for web traffic.  Have you tried a public CA bound to management and a private CA for EAP yet?
I did do a session on EAP-TEAP, they explained how it will work and also discussed EAP-FASTv2.  EAP-FASTv2 is available now but you must use anyconnect as your supplicant.  Microsoft and all other vendors will have EAP-TEAP native once it is fully released and comissioned as it will be the new gold standard for EAP.  It will support TLS, MD5, and CHAPv2.  If you are interested I have the PDF of the presentation I attended that shows the flow of how EAP-TEAP will work.  This is much better than wasMachineAuthenticated and machine auth caching, which has many down falls.
I currently do machine and user auth I just don't require them.  If Machine auth then allow machine on vlan-x with access to AD, DNS, and blah blah.  Then a seperate rule to say user auth gets more access, although I require EAP-TLS for both and if you think about it you are accomplishing the same thing if your PKI is setup correctly.  Make it so users and machines can only auto enroll, that way you know the only way they got their cert was from GPO policy.  I won't go into anymore detail, but there is lots you can do.

  • What is the DC in board?

Does this stand for anything? I think it's the plug in the computer where the cord goes...
Before I order a new one, as I think mine has turned into Hal, I was hoping someone could explain to me what it is, what it stands for, etc.
    Thanks!

The DC In Board is a small circuit board which contains the power port where the power adaptor plugs in. The power brick is actually a transformer which turns the AC into DC. So the DC In Board is named according to its function--it is a board where the DC comes in.
In order for the power adaptor to charge the battery, you need three things to work. The power adaptor has to work, and the battery has to be good, AND the DC In Board has to work, as it is a necessary link between the two inside the computer.
The power port takes a lot of abuse as the power adaptor is constantly plugged in and out. It can become physically damaged and no longer work. If this happens, you will have to repair or replace the DC In Board.
If you go to ifixit and look at the instructions for replacing the DC In Board, you can look at a picture of it.
    Hope this helps!

  • High Res Logic Board Removal

I am removing the logic board from my 1.67 Ghz Dual Layer PowerBook, so that I can replace the DC in board. I've noticed as I am attempting to remove it that there is quite a bit of resistance, and there appears to be a cable attached to the underside of the logic board that is not mentioned in the iFixIt guide. (not the DC in cable, not the battery cable) I have not been able to figure out how to remove it from the board. Can anyone offer any assistance?

Hi, Moonhawk. In your shoes, I would telephone iFixit for help. If their instructions are incomplete or unclear, I'm sure they will be glad to explain whatever you need explained, and they may be glad to know how their guide could be improved. I haven't personally performed the disassembly you're attempting on a DVI Tibook, and with my own Tibook still under its extended AppleCare until next January, I'm not inclined to take it apart to see what you're talking about. Good luck!

  • What's happened to my board? (MSI KT4AV-L)

    I have a bit of a problem,
    I have a MSI KT4AV-L with a AMD Athlon XP3000+ Processor.
Here's the mail i've just sent to the tech support of where I got the board from..
    Quote
Yesterday, I started to have problems with the internal network port - it was not finding the my gateway, however when I tried the exact same cable and router port on my laptop, it all worked fine.
I decided to reformat and re-install windows XP, in case it was a software error, however this still didn't solve it.  The basic problem was that I was getting Timeouts - I tried pinging the router and it was a mixture of successes and failures.
I went into the BIOS and changed back to "Default" settings and restarted - this has made matters worse - now my Graphics card is not working correctly and i'm not able to see anything on the monitor at all due to this.
These facts have made me feel that the Motherboard kid is faulty - I also noticed that the XP3000 chip I had was only showing up in windows as a 1.9ghz processor - not sure if this is correct or not.
Do you have any suggestions or can you give me a manufacture contact so I can try and resolve this issue without needing to send it back - I would appreciate a quick reply as I use this machine for work and it is causing me to delay some freelance projects that I am working on.

    Hello,
Did they get back to you?
Please make a list of all your components, including the power supply + details of the sticker.
    eg,
    +12v = 10a
    +5v = 20a
    XP3000+ is 2.16Ghz
You need to enter the BIOS and set the FSB to 166Mhz.
Press DEL when you turn the PC on or restart,
go to Frequency/Voltage control > press enter
FSB > press enter, change it to 166Mhz. >press enter
press escape, then goto save and exit > Y > press enter
So that is one problem out of the way.
GFX card problem, is your card AGP 4x or 8x?
Now would be a good time to post that list

  • What happens after a logic board replacement?

After a logic board replacement will my hard drive be erased? If so, can I simply restore my entire system from backup using Time Machine? Thank you.

Your hard drive won't automatically be erased, but some commercial applications may refuse to work, and a very small number of preferences won't be carried over.

  • MOVED: What The Best OVERCLOCKABLE MSI BOARD for AM2 socket?

This topic has been moved to Overclockers & Modding Corner.
    https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=105686.0

    0219577,
I've hit 3.1 fully stable with the 5000+. I also managed to load windows at 3.2 but wasn't fully stable (temps too high). If you have some luxury cooling I'm sure you'll get very far with a K9A. But I must say the nVidia chipset on the K9N share more options.
But why you want to replace a AN9 Fatal1ty board I don't see the sense. Is it terrible for overclocking or something?

  • What is the best Control board to buy for logic?

anyone have any ideas or prices

Remember that the Mackie control was first called the Logic control, first developed by emagic themselves. ie Michael Hayden (the main player with Sounddiver) developed the language for the control protocol that the MC series use.
Thanks for that info Matrixx, however here is my Question.
    Can Logic-Pro 7 work along side Logic-Pro 8 using this Euphonic M.C.?
If it is possible then this could be a break though since on L.P. 8 the Space/Designer is broken that was on L.P. 7 which of course is the best plugging on L.P. 7.

  • Tape with Unkown Format - What Apple Pro Res 422 Codec settings to use?

    Hello All:
Someone gave me a couple tapes with interesting footage to use. Is there a way to determine the tape format settings so I can select the correct codec setting to use in capturing the tapes? There are a lot of choices. These are MiniDV tapes but, I don't know anything more about the cameras used or settings selected by the person taping.
    Any ideas?

Thanks evertyone! For any following this thread, from a combo of sources, here is the answer (worked for me, anyhow):
    1-verify deck recognition by computer:
-W/deck on, choose Apple menu > About This Mac >> and press the More Info...
-From System Profiler select FireWire. Look to see if the deck is listed.
If not, you're done => there's a problem w/ the cable, firewire ports (computer or deck), or with the deck. If it's identified, go to step 2.
2-check all settings on the deck and in FCP
    On the Deck:
    - be sure the iLINK CONV is set: OFF
-if iLink Conv is already OFF then check FCP settings:
FCP menu > Easy Setup and select HDV 1080i from the selections available
-finally, in View menu choose Refresh A/V Devices
Open Log and Capture .... deck should be recognized.
