What is an action file?

I downloaded a data usage file from my cell carrier website.  Instead of being a spreadsheet fie it had the suffix action.  What is that?  When I clicked it Automator wanted to know if I wanted to install it.  I clicked install and it crashed.  I opened the fle with text editor and it appears to be ascii strings separated by double quotes.  Excel has no option to import that delimiter.  Any ideas how ot read this thing?

The .action came form Verizon's website.  I wanted to figure out why I exceeded the data limit on the previous month's bill.  Oddly for the current month the data is downloaded in csv format.  For prior months, even though the website said "spreadsheet" for the download (with no file type option that I could find), down came this text file with .action as the file extension.  Maybe it knew I was on a Mac.  But why not download in csv format, like the current month data?  Opening the file in the text editor showed only the ascii strings and no other code I could see.
Oddly Excel on Mac can't seem to import with delimiters other than comma (at least I couldn't get it to do the import), like the Windows version can.  Since I run XP in Fusion and have Office 2007 that did the trick.
BTW, the overage appears to have happened as a result of buying my iPhone 5S.  At least the 1.65 GB reported in one chunk correlated with the date and time I was buying my shiny new iPhone at the Verizon store.  It looks like I got charged for data transfer, probably from iCloud, I am guessing.

  • Missing information in Actions file specification

I wrote some code that parses the Photoshop Actions palette file. I used the Photoshop CS2 File Formats Specification PDF (dated June 2005) to understand its format. However, the following OSType keys of the "Reference Structure" type are not documented:
    'Idnt' (Identifier)
    'indx' (Index)
    'name' (Name)
They are mentioned in Table 3.4, page 62 of the PDF.
This seems to be a lack in the document since all the other many elements are explained in great detail. Can anybody provide details of these missing fields? What I need is information on their size (length in bytes) and/or the description of their physical structure in the Actions file. I searched this forum for more info to no avail.
    Thanks in advance,
    Ettore Pasquini

Name, Index, and Identifier (along with all other reference types) have a value
    structured like
'unicode string' - 'desired classID' - 'actual value'
The initial unicode string is not meaningful, as near as I can tell. It does get
populated by actions on very rare occasions, but does not appear to be used
anywhere. I always write it out as an empty unicode string and the action
    behaves the same.
You've accurately deduced the classID part.
I should have mentioned all of this in the previous email.
For Name, the value is a Unicode string.
For Index, the value is a simple 4 byte word.
For Identifier, values a simple 4 byte key-classID.
I have a test script that generates writes/read/writes and verifies descriptors
in Javascript. This includes the code for ieee754 floats, Alias (pth or alis),
and raw (tdta) data types. I haven't tested my Alias code out on an action
created on a Mac, though. The only one I haven't figured out at all is
ObjectArray (ObAr). I can't create it with the JS API nor have I found it in my
    largish collection of Action files.
If you'd like, I can send you the script(s) that I use for my implementation and
testing. You might find it of some use in your work. I also have a partial perl
implementation if that's more your speed.

    No. This is a classID.
    > 4 - 4 additional bytes of unknown meaning.
This is the actual value of the index. I see it used a lot when indexing a
    document's layers.

    Exactly right.

I can create Idnt's but I don't recall having seen them either.

  • Accessing ServletContext in a Action file

    Hi all,
I have a servlet which i load on start up and put in the context. Now, i want to retrieve that servlet from the context and use it in a Action file, what should i do?
The class Action, which every action file extends doesn't have any method to get the servlet context.
    please help,
    Seshu

You can use request dispatcher to forward the request to the servlet, I guess.Since the request object is available to you in the Action class, u can get the request dispatcher object from the request and use it to forward the request to the servlet.

  • What is an .acv file and how do you use it in PS?

I downloaded a PDF about using curve adjustments to compensate for evaluating prints under 3500K SoLux halogen lighting relative to using a monitor calibrated to 5000K for editing. (by John Paul Caponigro). Along with the download came a file named "correctforhalogen.acv" but there is no mention of it in the PDF.
I know this file has something to do with doing a quick curves adjustment for color correction, but it doesn't appear to be an actions file. Does anyone know what .acv files are exactly and how you implement them in PS? Thanks.

    Thanks Wade.
That did the trick, once I figured out the missing step. For other folks interested, to use an .acv file to adjust a curve:
Open the Curves Adjustment Panel > Panel Options drop-down menu > Load Curves Preset... > find & select the .acv file (on hard drive) in the "LOAD" window > click LOAD. The adjustment in the .acv file will be applied to the image and appear in the curves graph of the Curves Adjustment Panel. Slick.
Apparently, moving the .acv file to the "Curves" folder in the "Presets" folder allows this curve adjustment to be a permanent preset choice. It can then be found under the Curves Panel preset drop-down menu. Just look for the original .acv file's name in the list.

  • What does a grey file folder and ? mark blinking mean on my macbook?

What does a grey file folder and ? mark blinking on my macbook mean and how do I fix it???

With 10.4, 10.5 or 10.6 put your install DVD into the optical drive (CD/DVD drive) and reboot. Be sure to either use the disc that came with your Mac, or, if you installed a later Mac OS X version from disc, use the newer disc. As soon as you hear the boot chime, hold down the "c" key on your keyboard (or the Option Key until the Install Disk shows up) until the apple shows up. That will force your MacBook to boot from the install DVD in the optical drive.
When it does start up, you'll see a panel asking you to choose your language. Choose your language and press the Return key on your keyboard once. It will then present you with an Installation window. Completely ignore this window and click on Utilities in the top menu and scroll down to Reset Password. After resetting the password use Startup Disk from the same menu to choose your hard drive for startup and restart.
With 10.4, 10.5 or 10.6 if you don’t have an install disk check this article. http://www.macyourself.com/2009/08/03/how-to-reset-your-mac-os-x-password-withou t-an-installer-disc/
If you're running 10.7 Lion check this article
    http://osxdaily.com/2011/08/24/reset-mac-os-x-10-7-lion-password/
With 10.8 restart holding the Command and R keys, then from the drop down
of actions, choose Terminal.  When Terminal opens type:
    resetpassword
    and press enter.
You will get a reset password window from which you can select the user you want to reset, the admin account in your case.  Type a new password twice, do not do anything with the hint box.  Click Save, then confirm you want to do this reset.  Then click apply to the user's home directory, and click the apple in the left corner, and choose Restart.

  • Call Usage download .ACTION file

I downloaded my call usage using the "Download to spreadsheet" link on the website and it downloaded the file with a .ACTION file type.  Does anyone know what program you would use to open this file type?

I saved the action file, then opened it, when windows asked me what application to use I selected Excel. It opened just fine.

  • Unzipping action files?

I attempted to download some action files, what I got was .zip file not a .atn file. this .zip file does not a zipper just looks like a pdf and has no extraction option. I believe those awesome actions are in there but how do I extract them?

Try downloading them again.  A zip file should extract. What made you think the zip file you download  was a PDF? Actions are not awesome they are just recorded Photoshop steps.

  • Edge does not see the edge actions file.

Working with Edge version 1.5.0 and Visual Studio 10.  Just about finished with a project and now all of my code has disappeared from Edge, I can't see any of my triggers on the timeline or events on the buttons.  I can still open the html in a browser and everything still works but I can't do any more edits inside of Edge because I can't see the code in there.
The edge actions file has all the code, but Edge does not see any of it inside Edge.   I tried pasting the full code back into Edge but it would not save it.  How can I get edge to see the code again?

    Elaine,
Thanks for getting back, however, I cannot ZIP up the project since it is proprietary.  It is fairly large with multiple levels of symbols.  I can open the Edge Actions file outside of Edge and see all the code just fine.  When I open the code in Edge this is all I get:
    * Adobe Edge Animate Composition Actions
    * Edit this file with caution, being careful to preserve
    * function signatures and comments starting with 'Edge' to maintain the
    * ability to interact with these actions from within Adobe Edge Animate
    (function($, Edge, compId){
var Composition = Edge.Composition, Symbol = Edge.Symbol; // aliases for commonly used Edge classes
       //Edge symbol: 'stage'
       (function(symbolName) {
       })("stage");
       //Edge symbol end:'stage'
    })(jQuery, AdobeEdge, "EDGE-157779901");
I cannot paste over this and save.  Not sure what I need to do. Thanks for your help.

  • ACTION FILES - need OS X version

Does anyone remember 'action files' for os9?
It was a handy plug-in that enabled you to click on the folder you wanted to navigate to in save/open dialogue boxes
Is there anything similar for OS X?
    Thanks

I'm not sure what you want... Do you mean you can see a folder in the Finder and you want to get there in a Save dialogue? If that's it, just drag the folder and drop it into the dialogue window. If the folder is open, you can use the proxy icon (the little folder icon in the title bar).

  • Action files for Elements?

Do action files (.atn) work in Elements? I've just downloaded one from Adobe Share Studio but can't find a way to load it into Elements.
    Thanks

    Neil,
Like Barbara said, you can combine the PSD files into one but you don't have
to. Individual PSD files with their associated atn files together in the
same folder work just as well.
You don't need to create a new folder each time. Think of the folder as an
organizational tool. Each folder you create will show up in the palette
dropdown selection menu. If you select that item, you will see all the
thumbnails from all the psd files that you placed in that folder. I don't
like to have too many items in the dropdown menu so I use just a few folders
to categorize what I have and place multiple actions in each.
You must delete the cache files and let Elements recreate them in order for
the new actions and folders to show up.

  • Can I have an Action file install when a ZXP is opened in Extension Manager for CC 2014?

I have an extension that I'm packaging as a .zxp file.  I'm using Adobe Exchange Packager and setting to the proper install location for the files for the extension.
However, my extension requires an action file (.atn) is installed in the user's Actions panel.  Of course, I can include the .atn file in my package and copy it to a folder on the user's computer.... BUT, is there any way I can include that .atn file in the .zxp package and when Extension Manager unpacks the files, it INSTALLS the included .atn file into the user's version of Photoshop?  So, this way the .atn file is already installed in the user's Actions panel after the extension installs through Extension Manager...so the user doesn't have to worry about installing the .atn file as well?
(If there were a folder to place the .atn file into, I could do that, but I do not believe that there are any folders for CC 2014 that hold .atn files in which the panel will read, if at first not installed in the normal way.  I believe this is new for CC, and that the actions are held in a .psp file.)

I am not sure about the .atn file location but it sounds like you want to create a 'hybrid' extension.
You create a .ZXP containing your CS extension and then create an MXI file which includes the .ZXP and .atn file.
You would then wrap this into another .ZXP which will be used as the installer.

  • What does the open file dialog do 'under the hood' and is there a way to simulate it

What does the open file dialog do 'under the hood' and is there a way to simulate it?
I have a bug in my code (that I've posted about before, here) which I can't fix at the moment, but I do have a workaround.
    Briefly, the bug:
I call a dll from a function node, to initialise and run a spectrometer. If I start up the PC, LabVIEW and run my vi the code runs without complaint, the first call to the dll to initialise the spectrometer doesn;t return an error but the spectrometer is not detected either.
I've tried various solutions, see the link above, and none work
    The workaround:
If, at any time before running the code containing the function node I open an 'open file' dialog window, select the dll and click ok/hit enter then everything is fine. When I run the main code the spectrometer is detected.
I use an express vi to open the file dialog, I specify the start path and file name as constant inputs and just click ok/hit return when the dialog pops up. I don't do anything with the dialog outputs. In fact the vi that contains the open file dialog can be run before the project containing the bug is even open.
I have to do this everytime I turn the PC on.
    So, either
    1) Can somewone suggest a fix for the original bug?
    2) What is the easiest way to simulate the enter keypress when the open file dialog pops up
    or
    3) Can someone tell me what the open file dialog does under the hood that somehow causes the dll to work and can it be simulated in straight LabVIEW
I suspect that the dll itself is dodgy ( I have in the past talked to the supplier but not got very far, and I will try again but I would like a quick, temporary solution too). I'm guessing that the file dialog is making some kind of check on the file, and possibly registering its presence with the OS (winXP). I tried using the file/folder exists vi to see if checking the file like that worked but no luck.
    Any help greatly appreciated.
    Dave

    Hi David
I am very conscious about thread hijacking but this sounded like my issue so I hope you dont mind me asking about your issue. I am hoping that you have a spectrometer from the same vendor as me and its not just me seeing an Error 1097 issue. My spectrometer is from a company called Stellarnet.
So far I have unable to get it to work with other VIs. There is one condition where I can get it to work but its no good for me.
    Case 1
I open the VI in a fresh labview environment with no other VIs in memory. The code runs with no issue.
    Case 2
Labview is not opened. I double click the spectrometer VI in windows explorer.  The VI opens but it fails to run resulting in Error 1097. Personally, I dont see the difference between this and Case 1 above and yet it fails.
    Case 3
If I already have other VI's in memory and try to load the spectrometer VI and run it fails with Error 1097. This case is the one that most important to me. I have a test executive that will load test VIs dynamically and I can't get this to work. Same problem Error 1097.
I wanted to share what I have seen with you and to let you know that maybe somebody else has the same issue. I am convinced its the DLL but the vendor dis-agreed saying it was LabVIEW. I couldn't convince him otherwise.
    Thanks in advance
    David

How do I add a movie from my laptop to iTunes, what should be the file extension.

The extension is usually .mov, .m4v, or .mp4.   But you can't just change the extension.  The movies have to be encoded in a particular fomat.  Anything downloaded from iTunes or plays in Quicktime player will be fine.

It's the level of compression. Lower number, more aggressive compression, more visual artifacts.
Aside from that you should never use jpeg as a working format. The compression is destructive and cumulative, and the file deteriorates every time you resave it.
Use TIFF or PSD, and if you need jpeg save out a copy as a single final step.

  • What is a imoviemobile file?

What is a imoviemobile file? in imovie for iphone i'v generated an my projetc.imoviemobile file and i can't read it?

I don't know if this is a few years too late but to get into a iMovieMoble file you first need to get it onto your computer if you haven't done already which it looks like you have.  The latest versions of iMovie won't interface anymore with imovie for moble, this is going to be fixed someday they say but in the mean time if you want to get your clip out you first want to copy the iMovieMoble project and then change the extention to .zip  This will then allow you to extract the zip into a folder and inside are all your renders and clips that go into making that project. I wish there were a faster way like the right click and say show package contence but it's a different kind of file than that.
