What is best method for learning how to use mySQL with Coldfusion?

I have been using access databases for years with Coldfusion. I have a client that wants me to build an online classroom. I figure it's time to finally start using mySQL, but there is so much info out there, I don't know which way to turn.
Where do you experts recommend I get started?
Also, I am using coldfusion entrprise on my system at home. My machine is a 64-bit, 3.30Ghz AMD FX - 6100 six-core processor with 8gig of ram. Can I install mySQL on the machine and run CF8 without any problems?

How much RAM left on your system? If the computer is strictly for development, then you have more than enough to run ColdFusion, MySQL, browsers, and other development tools.
For MySQL download the MySQL Community Server and MySQL Workbench. There is also all-in-one package for Windows, http://dev.mysql.com/downloads/windows/installer/ that you don't need to download the server and workbench separately. The installation should be straight forward.
By the way, other CF users may suggest you to use MariaDB (https://mariadb.org/), which is a branch of MySQL.

quicken should work with lion.
Quicken Essentials will work with Lion. Most people that have used Quicken for a while (i.e. Quicken 2007) have found that Quicken Essentials isn't much better than a basic spreadsheet. It is a significant step down from previous versions and does not offer many of the features previously offered. Right now, it seems like the two most common options are iBank and MoneyDance.
Frankly... this is a major opportunity for these companies. The largest commercial distributor of this type of product has been Intuit (Quicken). That makes it hard for any other company to get any of that market as so many people were already using Quicken and may have had years of data stored in it. Now, with Quicken effectively out of the picture, it's a great chance for another company. Just imagine if iPhones were suddenly off the market. That would give other manufacturers a tremendous opportunity since they wouldn't have to fight an up hill battle against a market giant.

Link also does not work for me in WIN 7 with IE8. However, it does work in Chrome in WIN 7. It also works in Safari on my G4. Suggest you try Chrome or it may work in another browser like FireFox or Safari in Vista.

When bouncing- what's best method for smallest file size/highest quality?

I am in the process of embedding 3 mp3's into a PDF to submit as a portfolio. The PDF also has text, and two scores included, and with the 3 embedded mp3's it can't be more than 10mb.
So my question is: When bouncing a project out of Logic, what is the best method for getting the smallest file size, but retaining the best audio quality? And once it's out of Logic and it is an mp3 or other type of audio file, is there a best format for compressing it further, and still maintaining the relative quality?
I bounced out the three projects into wav's. Now I am using Switch for Mac to compress them down to smaller Mp3's. I basically need them to be about 3 mb each. Two of the recordings sound OK at that size, but they are just MIDI(one project is piano and string quartet, the other is just piano- all software instruments. The recording that combines MIDI and Audio and has more tracks (three audio tracks and 10 Midi/software instrument tracks)and sounds completely horrible if I get it under 5 mb as an mp3. The problem is that I need all three to equal around 9mb, but still sound good enough to submit as a portfolio for consideration into a Master's program.
If anyone can help I would really appreciate it. Please be detailed in your response, because I am new to logic and I really need the step by step.

The highest bitrate that falls within your limits. You'll have to calculate how big your MP3's can be, then choose the bitrate that keeps the size within your limit. The formula is simple: bitrate is the number of kilobits per second, so a 46 second stereo file at 96 kbps would be 96 x 46 = 4416 kbits / 8* = 552 kBytes or 0.552 MB. (*8 bits = 1 Byte)
So if you know the length of your tracks you can calculate what bitrate you need to keep it within 10 MB total.
I consider 128 kbps the lowest bearable bitrate for popsongs and other modern drumkit based music. Deterioration of sound quality is often directly related to the quality of the initial mix and the type of instruments used in it. Piano(-like) tones tend to sound watery pretty quickly at lower bitrates, as do crash and ride cymbals. But don't take my word for it, try it out.
And once it's out of Logic and it is an mp3 or other type of audio file, is there a best format for compressing it further, and still maintaining the relative quality?
You can only ZIP the whole thing after that, but that is just for transport. You'll have to unzip it again to use it. And no, you cannot compress an MP3 any further and still play it.

That is silly, you could have done that in Logic, which has one of the best MP3 encoders built in. And how good encoders are will especially come out at bitrates around or below 128, which you might be looking at.

So, one more scrap of info we need here: how long are those three pieces, exactly? I'll calculate the bitrate for you - but please bounce 'm directly out of Logic as MP3's. They will very probably sound better than your WAV-conversions made with Switch.

Quick answer if you let iTunes manage your music: Copy the entire iTunes folder (and in doing so all its subfolders and files) intact to the other drive. Start iTunes with the option (shift on Windows) key held down and guide it to the new location of the library.

Hi.
I want to learn how to script in Powershell to make my life easier at work.
Now, I'm creating Distribution Lists with cmdlets, and other simple moves, but I'd like understand and use scripts with Excel to make it easier in AD and Exchange.
Can anyone help me find out where I can learn Powershell with those tools? I've searched google and youtube, and bought books, but I'd like to learn especially about AD and Exchange through Excel.
I also have another question, I'm trying to collect the telephonenumbers in one OU in AD, and found this cmdlet:

I lined ut the OU path before -Filter, and used * -Properties Telephones Mobile to find the phonenumber in Properties-Telephones-Mobile in Active Directory. But I'm obviously doing something wrong.

As Fausto said, CSVs are the simple most way to do this. I'd advice against delving too deep into Excel manipulation right now (lots of frustration, little immediate rewards), Csv is your friend. Notable Commands:

For example, if you want to create a csv list with user data in it, using your previous example, you can do this:

As you dont have much charecteristics and key figures to design your cube, create Dimensions for CUSTOMER, SALES DATA, MATERIAL, BRAND etc. and put the logically related charecteristics into the dimensions.
For example: Customer Dimension( Customer ID, Customer name, customer Address etc.)
try to create the smaller Dimensions for performance reasons.

What is best method for getting most capacity when burning DVDs?

Supposedly there's 4.7 gigs on your average one layer DVD that you get in a spindle at the office supply store, but I've never got that much on one.
This Apple error message is frustratingly backwards and rediculous:
"Files 001 is too large to fit on disc. Remove some files and try again."
I don't want to take files out one at a time and try again and again and again and again. I want the exact amount of space available when I insert the DVD. Is this too complicated for a computer company like Apple to figure out?

You are falling for the same old Madison Avenue hype that affects all computers and computer storage devices. Salesmen think that a megabyte is 1 million bytes, but in reality, all computers consider a megabyte to be 1024,000,000 bytes. This leads to the common problem of not actually getting 80GB with an 80GB drive (actually formats to something like 74GB). A 1TB drive actually formats to 931GB.
A 4.7GB DVD actually holds 4.37GB of data. A Dual Layer 8.5GB DVD (sometimes referred to as DV9) actually holds about 7.9GB of data. In addition, a very small portion of every disk is used to keep track of the files on the disk.

Best methods for large To: list using cfmail

I'm getting time-out errors on one of my sites. People can
post to a message "corkboard" and site members can subscribe. One
of the topics has close to 600 subscribers. The SMTP mail server is
IIS's built-in thing, on the same machine as the web server.
I'd like to continue cflooping through the recipient list so
each recipient can get a "Hello Joey, here's an email" at the top
of their email, but I'm thinking that if the list gets to >1000
subscribers I'm going to time-out after a while.
What methods, other than giant BCC lists, are people using
for high-volume emailing? Perhaps just a better SMTP server, or one
on another machine so it's not fighting for processor time with the
webserver itself?

Good resources for learning how to use Aperture's adjustments

I'm a long-time visual artist who is just now getting into photography. I own both Lightroom and Aperture, and I must say that, for me, Aperture's interface and philosophy are my favorites. I love the way it handles photo organization. I have one problem, however. Being a relative photographic newbie, I have a terrible time with the adjustments. I seem to have a much easier time making good-looking adjustments in Lightroom. In Aperture, I just aimlessly noodle around, make a mess, and undo all my changes regularly.
I just found the Apple manual on making adjustments. I was wondering what other resources you more experienced photographers used to learn your way around.

Thanks I have that one on order from Amazon even as we speak. As an update, I've also found some information on bagelturf.com, and it looks as though Aperture Users Professional Network is going to start a 7-part series on Adjustments in Aperture. That sounds just like what the doctor ordered.
O'Reilly's "Inside Aperture" site also seems worthwhile. I'm sure you all know about these. I'm glad they're there. I've subscribed to a couple of podcasts as well.

Learning how to use C++ with Matlab files

Hi guys!
I'm Ph.D student who needs to run thousands of mathematical simulations. Actually I'm working in MatLab, but due the massive quantity of simulations, I decided to make some tests in C++ in order to improve the time of the computations.
Well the thing is that all my data it's in mat files (Matlab filetype) and i tried three things for access them:
Use the library <fstream> but i found extremely complicated, specially with double numbers. (In fact i have to convert all my data to a text raw file)
Use the native API of C++ from Matlab, but i get the error
