What is "bring all to front"

Under the Window menu is the item "bring all to front" and I have no idea what that means. I thought it meant to get current windows shown but so far nothing happens when I click on that option. ??????????????

For the application showing in the upper left-hand corner, selecting that option brings all of its open windows to the front or on top of any other app's open windows.

That way if you press Command+tab multiple times it will switch between the last two applications.
Yes, Command+Tab switching will always bounce you between the last two programs used, but it doesn't explain how some apps behave. I always see things like this when using QuickBooks Pro for Mac.
I usually have about 6-8 different windows open for QB. Say I then call up the calculator. I do whatever there and then click on a QB window I can see. You would think then that QB is in the foreground since I can then work in that program. But the calculator will be sandwiched between that QB window with the rest of the windows belonging to QB behind the calculator. Only when I Command+Tab to QB or click on QB's Dock icon will the calculator actually go behind all of the QB windows, making QB the actual foreground app.
That is a bit of nitpicking since QB must be the foreground app to be using it regardless of where the calculator is layered. It's just annoying that entire apps won't come to the foreground like they did in OS 9 and earlier. It does seem to make a difference too how a program will come forward in OS X if they are a Cocoa app or not.

Method to bring component to front?

Hey all
I am looking for a method that can be used to bring a component to front in my applet. I have a few choice menus that arent showing up and i believe it is because labels are being drawn over them.
The choice menus do not show up at all normally, but they appear just fine if I
setVisible(false) to the labels.
It has always been my understanding that components will show up in the order they are added to the applet. So if the labels are added first, then the menu second - the menu should be on top. However my applet also requires a lot of setVisible(true/false) and I am not sure if that is affecting the layering also. Would setting a component as visible automatically bring it to front, or would it remain where it has been added?
SO, if there is a bring to front method kicking around that would definately solve my problem.

BT Desk Top Help Up-Date Message - What's this all...

I have been getting a dialog box appear at the bottom of my display for the past few weeks stating that there is a Desk Top Help up-date available for my Home Hub - click to download up-date. etc.
It's genuine enough as I can access it from my BT Broadband Desktop Help section of the main BT web page.
My point is, as I have just tried again to download it, after 8% of the download it comes up with a dialog that tells me there are 'issues with BT downloading right now' and to try again, later.
Well, I have 'tried again later' for the past three weeks, in the morning and in the evening and everytime it has stopped at the 8% stage.
Anyone know what this is all about?
Anyone know what the up-date brings to the party?
Anyone find Desk Top Help (DTH) is actually helpfull? I ask this because every time it pops up telling me there is a problem with either my email accounts or my hub connection, and do I want DTH to assist me in fixing it, it runs through it's procedures but ends by telling me everything is ok and there is nothing wrong! I could have told it that before it started!!
After a few weeks of having this come up when you are right in the middle of something, then being forced to wait whilst it 'does it's thing' only to find nothing was in-fact wrong, becomes extremely annoying.
Do we actually need it?
Any useful tips/points/advice/experiences would be appreciated.

With regards to how useful Desktop Help is, we have reports from literally thousands of customers each month that this fixs problems for them. Maybe not everyones cup of tea but from what I see it works really well.

Of course if you are both connected to the same iCloud account you have the same contacts - what did you expect?. The contacts live on the server and are read from there by the devices; so as you've both managed to sync your contacts up to iCloud they are now inextricably mixed. You can only delete your contacts by deleting individual ones, and doing that will delete them from your phone as well.
You can only unravel this by
1. In the iCloud contacts page at http://icloud.com, select all the contacts, click on the cogwheel icon at bottom left and choose 'Export vCard'.
2. Sign out of System Preferences>iCloud
3. Create a new Apple ID and open a new iCloud account with it for your own use.
4. Import the vCard back into the iCloud contacts page.
5. Go to http://icloud.com and sign in with the original ID. This is now his ID. Work through the contacts individually deleting the ones you don't want him to have. When done sign out and advise him to change his password.
6. Go to the new iCloud account and delete his contacts individually.
Of course if you have also been syncing calendars and using the same email address there are problems with doing this.

Hmm. The problem still may be the RAM - Apple buys the RAM it puts in its machines from third-party vendors (usually Hynix) so it could be a RAM problem.
There are a couple of things that you can do yourself before taking your machine into an Apple Store or an AASP... download and run an application named Rember that will run a RAM test for you - let it run for a couple of hours or even overnight. If it turns out that your RAM is faulty, Rember will let you know. If it is faulty, then you have a couple of options - replace the RAM yourself or (particularly if you're under warranty still) take the machine to an Apple Store or AASP and have them replace the RAM.
If Rember finds no fault with the RAM, then you'll need to take it into an Apple Store/AASP and get a free diagnosis on the machine. Three beeps do usually indicate faulty RAM, but if it tests good with Rember you likely have another problem - it could be something as simple as the RAM, somehow, not seated correctly or signs of another hardware problem.
Run Rember first... call back with results.

My rue la la app for ipad stopped working. I deleted the app and tried to reinstall it, it is no longer available in the app store and when I research it on safari and find it when i try to install it says that it is not available in the us store. What is that all about?

My app did the exact same thing. It is still unavailable on the App Store and when Rue La La's site directs you to download their app, the "not available in the U.S. message appears. This happened to me last night. The app wasn't working, I deleted it and was just going to reinstall but was unable to find the app. I figured it was some glitch but I have tried multiple times this afternoon to no avail.

When I start up FCPX, the timeline and the clips don't highlight in yellow. I have to double-click to get them to highlight and it's in white. What's this all about?

The system seems sluggish, as well. I can't find anything in help that describes what this is all about.

Are you using the Select tool when trying to click on clips? Might try hitting "A" on the keyboard just to be sure.

We have no way of knowing what goes on on your machine. All we can tell is that your iPhoto library is missing and iPhoto can't find it. If you can't find then I the only thing you can do is restore from your Back Up.

How to bring all columns in a single/first page in report painter

Hi Experts,
There are 9 columns in a report painter which includes 1 lead column.
7 columns comes in a first page including lead column and rest 2 columns goes to second page. This report is copied from another report where all columns comes in a first page only. if the original report comes in one page then why not the new report.
Please suggest how to bring all columns in a single/first page in the new report.
Please revert if I'm confused anywhere.

Thanx for the quick reply. When I change the column width to 10 it comes in one page. But the requirement is to keep the column width to at least 12 or 14 and moreever the original report from where this report is copied having the same no of columns and the column width for original report is 14 and it comes in one page only.
Do I need to do something more to achieve this. My question is how the original reports data comes in one page where as the current report having issue with same number of columns.
Pls suggest.

How can I see what's using all my hard disk space

The other day I noticed my HD has 3GB left of memory, but my Home folder is only using 67GB. How can I figure out what is hogging all my space and get rid of it? I do use Bittorrent but I highly doubt that would account for the loss of free space.

Start with the freeware Grandperspective. The interface is a bit unusual, but it should help you figure out what's taking up all your space.
And of course make sure you're emptying the Trash.

How do I install iLife 8 and what happens to all my old projects?

I want to buy and install iLife 8 but as I have never upgraded to a new version before I don't know how you do this (apart from purchasing it of course).
Step by step, how do you install the disc?
What happens to all my existing and work in progress iMovie and iDVD projects? Can I continue to work on them or should I wait until I have finished them before upgrading?

If you have a book started in iPhoto 6 then you might want to make a backup copy of the library and the application as some book themes are not included in iPhoto 7. iPhoto 7 will continue to work with that theme but if you switch to another to see what it looks like you can't go back. Another approach is to make a copy of the book in iPhoto 6 for backup just in case, select it and type Command-D.
It apperars that the new large hardcover books have printed dust jackets with the cover photo instead of the photo on the hard cover.

TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've written an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. Unfortunely, all movies and songs purchased in iTunes will be lost...you'll have to purchase them again! Any applications you've purchased, you can download again for free.

What's with all of the squares of text that pop up?

I just bought my first mac in over 4 years. What is with all of the pop ups? I disabled the tool tips in Firefox, but I still get white boxes that pop up at the oddest times. What can I do to disable them? Some of them seem to be connected to Flash Player.

Can you tell if these are generated by the browser (i.e. ads or browser-specific tooltips), or are they generated by the operating system or component, such as Java?
I unfortunately don't have an answer for you, but I am using Safari, and I get random Java po-up windows causing anything full-screen to jump back to normal view, etc. If you're having the same issues as I am, then I'd be happy to get an answer as well. I've updated to the latest OS release from Apple, updated my Java, flash, etc. I'm still getting pop-up windows. The windows, however, close by themselves. They pop up for only a second or so, and then close.
