What is log truncate mode

hi,
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms187310(v=sql.105).aspx
what is a "checkpoint truncates the inactive part of the log when the database is in log truncate mode"
1) just want to know "what is log truncate mode".
yours sincerley

Probably that means that database is SET to SIMPLE recovery model NOT  a FULL..

  • SharePoint Content Database Log Truncation

Upon searching the web I found that DPM 2010 does not truncate the SQL log when it does the express full. Logs are truncated only when someone does a incremental (log backup)
Now For sharepoint content db, DPM does not do SQL transaction log incremental backup right?
So how are the content db logs truncated?
My recovery type is Full (we use mirroring). Should I backup the databases manually for the log truncation to occur?

They way this works is that DPM will back up the content database, and then back up the ldf file associated with it.  You will see entries in the application event log corresponding to each action.  The important ones to note will be:
    Log Name:      Application
    Source:        MSSQL$MIRRORA
    Date:          4/28/2015 7:53:17 PM
    Event ID:      18264
    Task Category: Backup
    Level:         Information
    Computer:      CButchSQL1.domain.com
    Description:
Database backed up. Database: WSS_Content_number4, creation date(time): 2015/04/24(19:20:20), pages dumped: 2282, first LSN: 173:445:49, last LSN: 173:465:1, number of dump devices: 1, device information: (FILE=1, TYPE=VIRTUAL_DEVICE:
{'{72BA7E1C-DB2D-4C40-B4A1-BDAF62B6E213}1'}). This is an informational message only. No user action is required.
This one of course indicates your content database was backed up.  After that, you should see:
    Log Name:      Application
    Source:        MSSQL$MIRRORA
    Date:          4/28/2015 7:53:25 PM
    Event ID:      18265
    Task Category: Backup
    Level:         Information
    Computer:      CButchSQL1.domain.com
    Description:
Log was backed up. Database: WSS_Content_number4, creation date(time): 2015/04/24(19:20:20), first LSN: 173:163:1, last LSN: 173:472:1, number of dump devices: 1, device information: (FILE=1, TYPE=DISK: {'C:\Program Files\Microsoft

DPM essentially does a temporary backup of the log to the temp location listed and immediately deletes it.  Once the log file is backed up for a database in full recovery mode, SQL will then truncate the log automatically for you.  If you see the
18265 event and the db is in full recovery mode, then SQL is failing somehow to truncate and should be investigated.  If you see 18264 but then no 18265, then you should check to be sure this isn't DPM R2 UR5 protecting SP with SQL Always On backend as
we are investigating an issue where DPM is not properly backing up the log files. Right now, you can manually truncate those log files until a fix is created.

  • Exchange 2013 backup and log truncation question

I have a scenario where I have 5 Exchange mailbox servers as members of a DAG, everything running fine, log truncation is working, but seems to be working differently than I am expecting it to work, as in previous versions of Exchange. I am used to the
logs being truncated immediately after the full backup completes. What is happening is that the server is retaining a weeks worth of logs. Everything older than 7 days gets truncated after a full backup completes. Is this expected behavior? I am running Exchange
2013 CU3 on Server 2012, backup software is HP Data Protector 8 running the latest updates. I am running a VSS backup. The DAG is not a lagged copy of the DB's either.

I will check the HP Data Protector setting, but I do not think that setting is valid or anything configurable.
Here is the contents of some various commands for one of my databases, all of which are configured identically, tell me if you see something set incorrectly. Hopefully I have redacted enough internal stuff:

  • B2B Logging - can I be selective about what gets logged?

I can enable verbose logging for b2b through soa-infra -> logging -> log configuration in EM by increasing logging level for oracle.soa.b2b to FINEST.
This produces a great deal of logging which is not in general very useful to a novice.
Can I be more discriminating in what I log at FINEST level? I assume I can.
How can I selectively enable / disable logging categories under teh oracle.soa.b2b category?
I know that I can expand oracle.soa.b2b one additonal level in EM and set logging to FINEST or less verbose for ui, transport, repository, engine and apptransport. This is still to coarse for me.
Please assume that I am very new to SOA Suite and WebLogic server.
    Thanks in advance
    Michael

    Hello Michael,
How can I selectively enable / disable logging categories under teh oracle.soa.b2b category? As you know that log settings can be changed using EM. Yes, you got it right that you can expand oracle.soa.b2b one additonal level in EM and set logging to FINEST or less verbose for ui, transport, repository, engine and apptransport.
As a developer, you may like to have transport (Delivery channels of trading partners), engine (B2B runtime) and apptransport (internal channels of host TP) logs in finest mode. Other two, UI and repository logs, may be at error/notification level.
For higher environments (Test or Production), you may like to keep the complete oracle.soa.b2b at error level itself.

    Hello,
    Please verify backup software.
Please use vssadmin list writers command to check the status of the VSS admin. If it is in a
failed state, please restart the Exchange replication service and then check the status again.
Please use Get-MailboxDatabaseCopyStatus cmdlet to view health and status information about mailbox database copies.
Please use Get-DatabaseAvailabilityGroupNetwork “DAG Name” | fl cmdlet to view configuration and state information for a DAG network.
Please use Get-DatabaseAvailabilityGroupNetwork DAG Name\MAPINetwork | fl cmdlet and Get-DatabaseAvailabilityGroupNetwork DAG Name\ReplicationNetwork | fl cmdlet to
check configuration information for MAPI network and Replication Network.
If the above configuration information is ok, please check if there are other related errors in application log.

  • We have "dbbackup.exe" in SqlAnywhere in BI 4.1 for running the transaction log truncation/backup. This wasn't present in BOXI 3.1. Any alternative for 3.1?

    1) OS version:
    OS Name : Windows Server 2008 R2
    2) BO version:
        BusinessObjects XI 3.1 SP05.
    3) My question:
We have “dbbackup.exe” utility in SqlAnywhere in BI 4.1 for running the transaction log ( CMS and Audit) truncation/backup. But the same utility was not present in BOXI 3.1 SP05 for backup.
Is there an equivalent/alternative utility in BOXI 3.1 SP05 for the same purpose? We use the command below for BI 4.1 Transaction Log truncation/backup:
    E:\Program Files\SAP BusinessObjects\sqlanywhere\BIN64>dbbackup.exe -c "dsn=<System DSN>;uid=< SQL_AW_DBA_UID>;pwd=< SQL_AW_DBA_PASSWD>;host=localhost:2638" -t -x -n "E:
    \Transaction_log_backup\CMS"
Any help or clarification on this issue would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks in advance.
    Conor.

    Hi Conor,
BOXI 3.1 SP05 does not include the dbbackup utility.  Instead, you issue SQL statements to create the backup.  We published a paper on the subject:
    http://scn.sap.com/docs/DOC-48608
The paper uses a maintenance plan to schedule regular backups, but you don't need to do that if you want to simply create a backup when required.  To do that (along with transaction log truncation), you run the SQL statement:
    BACKUP DATABASE DIRECTORY 'backup-dir'
    TRANSACTION LOG TRUNCATE;
For complete details about the BACKUP statement, have a look here:

You'll need to execute the statement inside a SQL console - the paper above describes how to get that.
    I hope this helps!

  • What are the lock modes in Lock object

What are the lock modes in Lock object ?
    what are the divfferences between
    Exclusive , cumulative
    Shared
    Exclusive , not cumulative
Could any body explain what happens in each table lock ?
    How the lock consists ?

    HI
Lock objects are used to synchronize access to the same data by more than one program.
The lock mode controls whether several users can access data records at the same time. The lock mode can be assigned separately for each table in the lock object. When the lock is set, the corresponding lock entry is stored in the lock table of the system for each table.
There are three types of lock modes
    1.Exclusive
    2.Shared
    3.Exclusive not cummulative
Exclusive lock: The locked data can only be displayed or edited by a single user. A request for another exclusive lock or for a shared lock is rejected.
Shared lock: More than one user can access the locked data at the same time in display mode. A request for another shared lock is accepted, even if it comes from another user. An exclusive lock is rejected.
Exclusive but not cumulative: Exclusive locks can be requested several times from the same transaction and are processed successively. In contrast, exclusive but not cumulative locks can be called only once from the same transaction. All other lock requests are rejected.

  • What exactly does Standby mode do?

In a quest to figure out how to turn the screen power off when I want to, I have found Standby mode, which does exactly that.  All the manual says about it is to press and hold the mute button to go into standby mode, but doesn't say anything else about it.  What exactly is "Standby Mode"?  Will it still give me calendar alerts, and phone calls and other alerts, or is it essentially turned off?
    Jesse
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Standby mode is just a low power state to conserve battery life. It shuts of the backlight and screen, and does not respond to key presses until you bring it out of standby mode. Your notifications, phone calls, etc. are not affected by it.
The holster serves the same purpose: it has a magnet that is detected by the phone to put it into standby. If you go to the notification/ ringer profile settings, you will notice 2 different setting: out of holster and in holster.

  • What is the private mode

    hi Experts,
Pls clarify what is the private mode and how we it can relate with Heap Memory?
    Thanks in advance.

    hello amit
    Private Mode
Private mode is mode where the heap data is getting exclusively allocated by the user and is no more shared across the system, this happen when your extended memory is exhausted.
    You can go to transaction
ST02 --> Double click on extended memory --> Mode List
From there you see a history of which users were using all of your extended memory, and how much memory total.
If you want to know more about private mode

  • What are the MDM Modes and explain them?

    hi friends,
    What are the MDM Modes
please explain each mode with examples?
    thanks and regards,
    ramu.

    Hi,
There are five modes in Data Manager which are as follows:
    1. Record Mode: When Data Manager starts, record mode is opened. It is the primary working view. From here, the content of the data can be
managed. We perform various operations like
    a. Adding a record
    b. Deleting a record
    c. Searching a record. The search for a record in record mode can be started from the tree view located in the left area of the main window. The search parameters are shown here.
    2. Hierarchy Mode: In this mode, the user of the Data Manager can view and change all hierarchies stored in the repository. The hierarchy table to be edited can be selected here. The tree view displays the tree structure of the hierarchy.
    3. Taxonomy Mode:  The taxonomy determines how records belonging to different categories are defined. Through a taxonomy, an attribute can be attached to a record. These additional attributes are defined for records, which belong to a certain category. An example of this could be personal data, which differs according to the role in the organization, and thus includes additional information.
The taxonomy mode can only be selected if there is a table of type Taxonomy in the repository.
    4. Matching Mode:  We can define transformations, substitutions, and matching rules u2014 and bundle these rules into matching strategies.
According to a matching strategy, for example, SAP net weaver MDM will calculate scores for the probability that specific records are duplicates. We can then compare potential duplicates and merge any objects that are in fact repeated.
In Rules Tab, we set up rules to automate the detection of duplicate master data.
In Strategies tab, we bundle rules into matching strategies to calculate the probability of duplicates.
A high matching score indicates that a data entry is likely a duplicate record.
    5. Family Mode: In family mode, all existing records that are already assigned to a category can be subdivided into families. The taxonomy table in which the family definitions are to be stored is selected in the toolbar. Then the family can be selected in the tree view.

  • What is Locked Down mode?

What is Locked Down? What is installation in Locked Down Mode? I only know it is something related to security.
    Thanks!

    Thanks for your great attention.
There is only some comments by other guy which give me the idea how to check. "During tests, make sure that installation in a locked down mode is possible."
"Lock Down mode is the most secure mode, with only essential services/functionality enabled OOTB. When installed in this mode, all non-essential functionality/account/data should be explicitly added and configured by the customer."
That's all the context above. That's all the context? some vague comment by some "other guy"? The statement "should be explicitly added and configured by the customer" sounds like this is from installation instructions for some third party product.
I'm sorry, I still can't answer your question of "What is Locked Down Mode". Maybe you should ask your "other guy" that used the term that gave you the idea to check.
So is my understanding correct? "In my opinion locked down mode should enable users to select essential or must modules to install, and what is unnecessary to customer can be deselected. So to check if a software can be installed in locked down mode means to try if the software enable the above installation options." Since I don't know what "other guy" nor you mean by "locked down mode" there is no way I can comment on whether or not your understanding is correct.

BTW, our product is a PLM software. That's nice. I drive a Honda.
