What is ' OSStatus error 5401 '?? try to load a video, doesn't.  OS 10.6.8  have flip for / WMV

I'm no good at 'puter stuff , this pretty much just needs to work.  note - I have in the past downloaded videos from the same site, no problem.  did  upgrading OS or quicktime or something screw things up ?  what to do ?  also has said,  OSStatus 1201 or something like that in recent weeks.

One way to test is to Safe Boot from the HD, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, Test for problem in Safe Mode...
PS. Safe boot may stay on the gray radian for a long time, let it go, it's trying to repair the Hard Drive
Reboot, test again.
If it only does it in Regular Boot, then it could be some hardware problem like Video card, (Quartz is turned off in Safe Mode), or Airport, or some USB or Firewire device, or 3rd party add-on, Check System Preferences>Accounts (Users & Groups in later OSX versions)>Login Items window to see if it or something relevant is listed.
Check the System Preferences>Other Row, for 3rd party Pref Panes.
Also look in these if they exist, some are invisible...

If you live in the US launch the iTunes store, then tap Purchases, then the "not on this phone" tab. If you don't live in the US you will have to buy them again, unless the iTunes Store support staff takes pity on you when you email them with a request for help.
BTW, how many songs can you download between daily syncs?

• What is OSstatus error -9549 and how to solve it?

When I was using my iPhoto '09 (Version 8.1.2 (424)) to export a slideshow, I got the following error:
The operation couldn't be completed.
OSstatus error -9549
I've never seen this error before previously when performing similar operation. What does it mean and any solution?
Thanks!

I have the same 9549 error condition trying to export a Display resolutions slideshow. I can reliably repeat this error. My slideshow export hasw125 still images ~4mb each and two songs ~ 6 minutes. the error is thrown near the end of the export.
Running iPhoto '09 version 8.1.2 (424)
OS X 10.8.5
Macbook Pro 2.2.Ghz Intel Core 2 Duo
4 GB 667 Mhz DDR2 SDRAM.
Would appreciate a solution or workaround. FYI I'm using iPhoto to produce this slidshow because iMovie creates objectionally jumpy transitions when using Ken Burns effects. Pretty frustrating using these Apple products to try to make a slideshow with music. If anyone has a 3rd party software app that can do the job please share that too. I'm spending too much time troubleshooting faulty Apple apps.
Thanks.

• What does osstatus error -61 mean?

i have created an album in iphoto and i am trying to export to a external hardrive and keep getting osstatus error -61. help?

Welcome to the Apple Discussions. That error code is: -61 wrPermErr Write permissions error; Not a publisher
The first thing I would try is to run Disk Utility and repair disk permissions. Also delete the iPhoto preference file, com.apple.iPhoto.plist, that resides in your User/Library/Preferences folder.
If you send the slideshow to iDVD you will be able to burn the iDVD project and play it thru a TV set. If you do go thru iDVD here as some basic tips:
When ready to burn the project to disk use the File->Save as Disk Image menu option to separate the encoding process from the burn process. Mount the resulting disk image on the desktop by double clicking on it and launch DVD Player to play the project. If the disk image plays satisfactorily with DVD Player the endocding is good and you can proceed with the burn.
Burn to disc with Disk Utility or Tosat at the slowest speed available to assure the best burn quality. Always use top quality media: Verbatium, Maxell or Taiyo Yuden DVD-R are the most recommended in these forums.
Another method would be to export the movie via the File->Export->Slideshow menu option and select the medium size as that's what iDVD uses. Then drag the resulting QT movie file into an open iDVD project window and continue with iDVD.

• What does "OSStatus error -36" mean in Time Machine?

I'm getting intermittent errors with Time Machine. It will not back up to my external HD (LaCie d2 quadra). When this happens, the external HD cannot even by ejected (by Finder or Disk Utility). I have to turn it off. When I turn it back on and run Disk Utility Repair Disk it always says that the LaCie appears OK.
I don't know what's going on, but I'm suspecting it's the HD.
Any help?
The log says:
Dec 19 12:04:56 Roy-PowerBook com.apple.backupd[31851]: Starting standard backup
Dec 19 12:09:58 Roy-PowerBook com.apple.backupd[31851]: Error determining directory contents for /Volumes/LaCie 3TB: Error Domain=NSCocoaErrorDomain Code=256 UserInfo=0x100507400 "The file “LaCie 3TB” couldn’t be opened." Thank you. I'd already been to Pondini's TM FAQs and had suspected that the problem was corrupted files or bad media. Only DriveGenius DrivePulse has ever given me any error messages about that LaCie, and it said only that the drive had errors and needed repair ASAP. Disk Utility of course found nothing to repair. A tech at ProSoft suggested corrupted files, saying bad TM files often cannot be detected by normal means and that then the only solution is as you said: backup, reformat, and restore the LaCie.
Unfortunately, the Backups.backupdb file is about 1.5 TB and I didn't have another drive that big to back up to. Now I do, so following the directions in "Time Machine: How to transfer backups from the current backup drive to a new backup drive" I backed up the backup to a new OWC drive. (The copying took about 20 hours.)
I certainly can't trust the LaCie until I can ascertain whether the errors were caused by corrupt files or bad media. At this point, I have little idea how to do that. After the holidays, I'll look into it.

• What does OSStatus error -49 mean?

I'm trying to export a slideshow in iphoto '09
"Display" resolution (highest of the choicse)
I get this error about 75% of the way through
OSStatus error -49
Did a google search and someone suggested to change your energy settings to "Sleep - Never".  I did that and still get the error.
It takes about 60 minutes of exporting to get to the point where the error happens so it is pretty time consuming to "test"

How much free space do you have on your boot drive?  Also run Disk Utility to repair permissions, reboot and try again.
If that fails as a test launch iPhoto with the Option key held down and create a new, test library.  Import some photos and test to see if the same problem persists. Does it?

• When I try to load most videos on the BBC web site, nothing happens and I get the following in the error console: "DM_Tag is not defined". Internet Explorer works fine.

This happens when I use Firefox. I currently am using Firefox 4.0

Hello,
Try Firefox Safe Mode to see if the problem goes away. Safe Mode is a troubleshooting mode, which disables most add-ons.
(If you're not using it, switch to the Default theme.)
* On Windows you can open Firefox 4.0+ in Safe Mode by holding the Shift key when you open the Firefox desktop or Start menu shortcut.
* On Mac you can open Firefox 4.0+ in Safe Mode by holding the option key while starting Firefox.
* On Linux you can open Firefox 4.0+ in Safe Mode by quitting Firefox and then going to your Terminal and running: firefox -safe-mode (you may need to specify the Firefox installation path e.g. /usr/lib/firefox)
* Or open the Help menu and click on the Restart with Add-ons Disabled... menu item while Firefox is running.

Once you get the pop-up, just select "'Start in Safe Mode"

If the issue is not present in Firefox Safe Mode, your problem is probably caused by an extension, and you need to figure out which one. Please follow the Troubleshooting extensions and themes article for that.
To exit the Firefox Safe Mode, just close Firefox and wait a few seconds before opening Firefox for normal use again.
When you figure out what's causing your issues, please let us know. It might help other users who have the same problem.

• Getting "OSStatus error -19160" when trying to play videos from Web browser

I have Snow Leopard on a MacBook Pro (all silver aluminum), and am having a problem playing a video feed online. I get the message: "OSStatus error -19160". Nothing turns up in Google searches on that particular number. I've checked both QuickTime and Flip4Mac. Both are the latest. Any idea what this is? Is there a place that lists all OSStatus errors?

Greetings,
I encountered error -19160 while attempting to stream a site that had formerly worked just fine.
I'm using Quicktime 10.0 and I've installed Flip4Mac 2.4 on a Mac Mini with Intel processors.  Earlier in the day I opened FireFox while streaming (I close FF after QT begins streaming) - Quicktime ended the stream at that point and wouldn't pick it back up.  I thought it was just a case of "don't do *that* again".
When I attempted to view the same stream later that day I was met with the error -19160 message.  Fiddled around with settings, booted soft & hard but nothing eliminated the error UNTIL
I dragged the WMV player icon from the Applications folder to the Trash bin - soft booted, then chose "Put Back" from the Trash menu.
Everything now works splendidly.
Hope this helps somebody!

I am trying to run a Keynote version 5.1.1 (1034) presentation on my new machine which has Keynote 6.1. Everything works except the embedded videos which give me this error notice OSStatus error -12945.
Does anyone have any advice? I've got to give this presentation in a few days. Yikes!

Use Keynote version 5.1 and update to version 5.3
Transfering version 5 files to Keynote version 6 will cause problems.

• What is OSStatus error -54? when trying to view my library I get this error

I am not able to view and edit a good portion of my library due to this error

It is a permissions error. Are you sharing your library with other users? Have you moved or restored your iPhoto library recently? What exactly happened, before the error first occured?
If you have been accessing the iPhoto library in a shared folder from a different user account, repair the permissions:  launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down and use the option "Repair permissions". See this:  iPhoto: Sharing libraries among multiple users
If that is not the problem, post back with more information.

• What does OSStatus error -1856 in Quicktime 7

Just set up a brand new mac quad-core and because I am in the business of sound design for film, I have always used Quicktime Pro 7 in order to export QT movies in different formats, i.e., H.264, Apple pro res 422, DVCPRO/NTSC, etc. I downloaded QT 7 and in stalled (v.7.6.6) and ran the QT Pro set up under registration. Now when I try to open any QT movie in QT 7 I get the error messgae in my Post headline. Am I missing something here?

Hi,
I got to messing around in the iTunes folder and now NOTHing is visible in my iTunes Library. I had made a backup of the ~\My Music\iTunes folder before I messed with anything and so deleted the entire iTunes folder. Then I restored it from the backup. There is still NOTHing in my library.
I can import one item at a time but it's impractical to do it that way due to the volume of music. How can I import All of my music into the library? Is there a way to import an entire directory, consisting of sub-directories and their music - into the library?
Thanks very much.
Mike
