What is the better way to pass input parameters between components?

Hi all,
I had a dispute with a colleague about passing data between different WDP Development Components. The situation is like this:
Colleague has a SearchWDP (parent) und I have a BrowseWDP (child). After searching for some objects and clicking a hit in the SearchWDP, the corresponding details should be shown in BrowseWDP, via passing a bunch of parameters such as selected item's id, etc.
Now which of the following is the better practice:
- Defining a node in BrowseWDP (child) with isInputParameter set to TRUE, creating a similar node from the same type (simply via ModelBinding, both WDPs are using the same model) in SearchWDP, and defining a mapping between them so that SearchWDP fills the input nodes. From BrowserWDPs perspective, I'd call this Pull method.
or...
- Defining a node in BrowseWDP (child) with isInputParameter set to FALSE, creating a setter method in BrowseWDP Interface Controller for the collection (to be passed as parameters) and calling a wdContext.nodeBlaBla().bind(pInputParameterFromModelType). From BrowserWDPs perspective, I'd call this Push method.
The colleague's argumentation in favor of Push has not convinced me at all and I'd like to ask your opinions. Is there a best practice or recommendation for this scenario? TIA
ps: Any answer will be rewarded.

Hi Cuneyt,
Refer the links below, they are very informative!

http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw04s/helpdata/en/67/cc744176cb127de10000000a155106/content.htm
These links are a part of the WebDynpro ABAP documentation, but the concepts are same for WDA and WDJ.
Considering your scenario, I would recommend the first alternative you have mentioned (if you refer the second link its called External Context Mapping), where component controller context node of component A (SearchWDP) is the source for Interface controller context (same name) of component B (BrowseWDP).
Thanks.

  • What is the best way to handle input parameter

    When writing sub-vi's, what is the best way to handle input parameter range checking? On the front panel I can choose to have numeric values coerced to be within range, but this does not affect constants or controls wired to the vi when used as a sub-vi. I can build range checking into the vi, but this can result in a cluttered looking vi. Do you have any suggestions.

    As you discovered, the Range and Coercion properties of controls do not work when used in sub-vis.
    Your best option is to go ahead and build your range checking into your sub-vis. If its something you will be doing a lot, just make your range checking a sub-vi and drop it where needed. This will keep the clutter to a minimum. You may end up with more than one range checking VI if you need different functionality, but this will still make less clutter and easier re-use.

  • What is the Best way to move large mailboxes between datacenters?

    What is the Best way to move large mailboxes between datacenters?

    Hi,
     Are you asking with regards to on-premises Exchange? With Microsoft Online SaaS services (aka Exchange Online) there is no control and no need to control which data center a mailbox resides in.
     With regard to on-premises Exchange, you have two choices: you can move it over the WAN in which case you would either do a native mailbox move (assuming you have Exchange 2010 or later you can suspend the move after the copy so you can control the
    time of the cutover) or create a database copy in the second data center and once the database copies have synchronized change the active copy.
    The other choice is to move is out of band which would usually involve an offline seed of the database (you could conceivably move via PST file but that would disrupt access to the mailbox and is not really the 'best way').
    In general, Exchange on-premises questions are best asked on the Exchange forum: http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/office/en-US/home?category=exchangeserver

  • What is the best way to pass a constant to a cin expecting a pointer to a value?

    I have a cin which has a leg that is expecting a pointer to a value. On the diagram, what is the best way to connect a constant widget to this leg of the cin? Connecting it directly crashes labview as it treats the constant as a pointer to memory.
    Thanks

    I am not sure that I understand your issue. CIN variables can be Input-Output or Output only. Either way, they are being passed in as a pointer to a value. You can see this very easily by placing down a CIN and wiring a constant integer to it. Next, right-click on the CIN and create the C file. You will see that the parameter list has an int* in it.
    If you are still having problems, do you have to create a CIN or can you create a DLL instead? The DLL will give you a few more ways to pass the data than a CIN does with no real performance decrease.
    Also, have you read the "Using External Code in LabVIEW" manual? This hsould answer some questions as well.

  • I now have 4 itouchs, 1 ipad mini, and three iphones for my own family members.  What's the bet way for me to setup itunes so that we can all share the same music, apps, movies, shows, etc?

    I now have 4 itouches, 1 ipad mini and 3 iphones in use by my direct family.  What's the best way for me to set things up so that we can all share the same music, apps, movies, shows etc?
    I would prefer to have one account to input dollars which allows all the users (my direct family) to share and buy things.
    Can we all have different user ID's however share the same account?

    I'll try to help a bit.
    ITunes match space is different to icloud space. With iTunes match you get storage for 25,000 non iTunes purchased tracks and other than a limit for individual file size, there is no memory limit.
    You can turn match on individuallyon each device (I have it turned off on my iPod but turned on on my iPad and iPhone). When you turn it on then you get access to all the tracks, and in my experience any playlists I create have transferred over very well. I understand that some people have had trouble with playlists though.
    I'm not quite clear with exactly what you mean regarding cleaning up your library, but be careful about using Match for this. There is no guarantee that matched songs will be exactly the same version as your own copy, due to some mismatches, so you could find some problems there. Personall, I am cleaning up my library before matching, but I am rather particular about keeping my library the way I want it. If you aren't as fussed then match could be the answer.
    Hope that helped.

  • What is the best way to pass a controlling signal out of a sub vi or more than one layer of for loop, while the sub vi or for loops are still running?

    I have a vi that runs through two for loops and a while loop, then after a certain number of iterations on the inner while loop it is supposed to pass a trigger to a case stucture to start measurement. I have tried using a local variable attached to a boolean control which in turn is attached to the true case of the case structure involving the measurement sub vi. What is happening is that the boolean control will light on the front panel at the correct # of iterations in the while loop, as if true, but the measurement is not taken, and the boolean control never goes back to false. It remains lit. Am I u
    sing the local variable incorrectly? If so, where am I going wrong.

    Hello planar,
    There are multiple ways to pass control information between loops and VIs and each one has its place. For simple VIs like your example, a local variable will be fine.
    The main reason the subVI is not running is that the case structure is not continuously polling the Boolean control. This is because the case structure is not inside a loop and as such will only read the Boolean value once and execute once. Encasing the case structure and control inside the while loop should solve the issue of the subVI not running.

    Hi!
    i m using dreamweaver cs4 and i have a site already configured on dreamweaver
    i need to change the name of the site and at the same time, every path names and every links
    This site has about 50 pages so i would like to know what is the better steps to do for modified the name of the site unless problem?
    I read the informations about  'manage site' but its not clear for me about links and path names!!
    thank you

    Just use site manager to change the site name. Nothing complicated with that.
    What exactly do you mean by changing path names? Do you want to change the name of folders in the site? If so, just change them within DW and it will prompt if you want to update links.

  • What's the fastest way to share files live between 2 Macs in the same room?

    Please can I have some advice on this scenario?
    I'll need to share HD video footage between 2 new Mac Pros in the same room. 1 Mac will be used to upload the footage and the other to edit it using FCP. The footage can be stored either on hard drives in the edit machine or on desktop hard drives connected to the edit machine (or if there is a better option I'm open to advice).
    What is the fastest way of sharing the files and what is the simplest way?
    Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks in advance

    What is the fastest way of sharing the files and what is the simplest way?
    Fastest way? a fiber channel SAN connecting the two machines to a common fiber-channel based storage array. Can't beat it for performance, but it comes at a cost (think $20K as a starting point, depending on the amount of storage you need).
    Simplest way? Some external media (thumb drive, external hard drive, etc.) that you shuffle between the two machines
    Intermediate: a NAS-based storage box on your network, although be aware that real-time editing of HD video can overwhelm many low-end NAS boxes.

  • What's the best way to store test parameters for future use?

    I'm creating a test stand that will perform various "standard" tests. Each of the tests has it's own setpoints (integer numbers) as well as some string values that are stored in the log file with the data.
    What is the easiest way to store these setpoints and strings so that I can pull them into the VI in the future, say by selecting a test type from a ring control, etc.?
    I would also like to make this dynamic so that new test types can be stored from the vi. (i.e. I don't want to have to hard code all the future tests and their parameters).

    I like INI files, too. If you are looking for an easy way to read and write your parameters to INI, take a look at the Variant Configuration File IO Library of the OpenG Toolkit.

  • What is the fastest way to pass data between parallel threads?

    I have a top level vi running with 6 parallel threads. I need to pass some data from digital I/O to several of the threads. What is the fastest responding way to do this. I am controlling a machine that has quite a few sensed events happening at very close intervals, some as close together as 1 to 2 milliseconds, and I seem to be randomly missing the signal from these sensors. How can I distribute the I/O to the different threads and not miss any inputs?

    I usually use a Queue to pass data from one loop to another. Other
    choices are Functional Globals or Notifiers. It kind of depends on what
    you need to do as to which one is best, so it's a bit hard to recommend
    one over the others without knowing more about your application.
    Both Queues and the Functional Globals (if written correctly) can
    buffer data so you're less likely to lose data if one loop gets behind
    the others.

  • What is the better way to end a ajax request in JSF?

    Hi, i hav a question.
    Im working with AJAX inside JSF, using a phaseListener, when i finish my work i do:
    context.responseComplete( );But i want to save the view, i dont want lose the changes ive made in my backbeans, what can i do?
    tkz.

    Ok, ill try to explain in better way:
    AJAX goes to the server and update the model, server response xml and update the client, i hav tags in my jsp like saveState (save the state of object), its a tomahawk component, the jsf_sequence goes with AJAX, i need save the view state using that sequence, because another sequence will be back to the client.
    When client go with normal request (get, post), the server doenst restore my previous state (because i think ajax ended the lifecycle first).
    Some time ago, i did something like this:
              Map map = context.getExternalContext().getRequestMap();
              Integer sequence = (Integer) map.get(RendererUtils.SEQUENCE_PARAM);
              if (sequence == null || sequence == 1) {
                   logger.warn("JSF_SEQUENCE error");
              } else {
                   sequence--;
                   synchronized (context.getExternalContext().getSession(true)) {
                        context.getExternalContext().getSessionMap().put(
                                  RendererUtils.SEQUENCE_PARAM, sequence);
                   synchronized (map) {
                        map.put(RendererUtils.SEQUENCE_PARAM, sequence);
    context.getApplication().getStateManager().saveSerializedView(
                             context);The code back the jsf_sequence and i dont touch in the jsf_sequence on cliente, so when client post with normal away, everything is fine because faces saved the last view in that sequence. I dont wanna do that again, i wanna discover a soft way.
    tkz.

  • What is the better way to open and close connection in bean

    Hello, may i ask about the best way to open and close the connection?
    At the first, the connection code is store in Conn class bean. The JSP page will call a method in Process bean to process the query and update of database. the Process bean is using th Conn to connect to database.
    In my process bean, it have a method for each type of sql like select, insert, update, and delete for each tables. Each method will call the Conn to open and close the connection. The jsp page can simply call a method retrieve or update records.
    However, when calling the processUpdate method, it is a method that update a group of tables base on the query result of another group of tables and calculation. If I calling the query method in the same bean file, it will open and close the connection many times (more than 1000 times). After open and close the connection several times, the connection to mySQL will be fail.
    Currently, i include 2 method in Process that is only calling the Conn to open the connection and close connection. When calling the openConnection method, it will also set the boolean connected in the class to true and call Conn to open connection. When calling the closeConnection method, it will also set the boolean connected in the class to false and call Conn to close connection.
    After that, i add some change to the query method which is when the connected is false, it will open the connection by calling the Conn and close the connection themself. If the connected is true, it will not call the Conn to open and close the connection because it already connected to the database.
    Now, i when i calling the query method in jsp, it can open the connection and close the connection individually. When i call the processUpdate in the jsp, this method will calling the openConnection before calling the query and calling closeConnection at the end. It not only faster the process(less open and close), it also no cause the connect to mySQL fail error again. However, it also make the coding in the bean file more longer and complex.
    Is there have any better solution?

    Use connection pooling. This will put the connection management in the hands of the webserver, not your code. Check out this post:

  • What's the best way to share JE environments between servlets?

    Hi, I'm happily serving requests for the same webapp (so single servlet) which uses multiple JE environments. In my case I have an environment for each db, one of these environments is a login details only db. Things work great, three questions though:
    1. Right now I'm keeping environment/entity store references in global vars (everything below entity store, views etc. is created and discarded for each request), is there a better way?
    2. When I want to add a new app (so additional servlet) - how can I make sure the login environment is shared across servlets, to take advantage of shared cache etc?
    3. As indexes are thread safe, is it considered best practice to store index refs. in global vars. and have each incoming thread (in a servlet) share these vars. or should each request build the object refs. it uses and discard accordingly?
    Hoping the above makes sense.
    PhilQ.

    Yes, EntityIndex objects are also thread-safe. Really only EntityCursor objects are not.
    The entity objects themselves are not owned by JE. You will have problems if you have multiple threads changing them concurrently (if one thread is changing an entity object's properties and another thread is storing it, for example). However, it is up to you if you want to share entity objects between threads; there is nothing wrong with that, since there is no interaction with JE. But your app will need to enforce thread safety, perhaps by using them only in a read-only fashion, for example.

  • Cloud Newbie: What is the best way to sync content files between locations?

    Not new to Dreamweaver, but am new to the Creative Cloud.  I typically carry an external drive with my web files and update site from home or work computer using those files.  Now that I'm using Dreamweaver CC, I'm trying to find the most efficient way to sync content files between computers.  I see that the "Sync Settings" allows for syncing of preferences - but not content. Anyone have a recommendation? Or do I simply make my changes at work. Then go home and download the page I made changes to update my home files?
    Thanks,
    George

    The Cloud isn't going to synch your site files between 2 computers.  That's not what it's for.
    You might want to explore file check-in/out feature in DW.
    http://help.adobe.com/en_US/dreamweaver/cs/using/WSc78c5058ca073340dcda9110b1f693f21-7ebfa .html
    This lets you check files in/out from your Remote server.  That way, you know you're working on the lastest copy. Check-in/out is typically used in collaborative environments where 2 or more people work on the site.  But it might serve your needs as well.
