What is the most compatible HD Hard Disk camcorder with a mac?

I'm looking to purchase a new High Def, Hard Disk camcorder, but I'm unsure what will be compatible with my Mac? I've read on this messageboard that tons of people have trouble getting these hard disk camcorders to sync with their Macs. I want to buy a Sony, but it seems that they are not very Mac friendly. THANKS!

It's not really an easy question for me to answer, I've gone from a pro DV camera to a consumer HD camera and in many ways I'm a little disappointed, but the comparison is hardly fair.
My hobbies are video and motor sport, so my cameras get quite a challenge and on occasions the HD camera falls short. But as I say it connects well, I have no reason to believe I bought the wrong consumer camera, (just shouldn't have bought a consumer camera) and there are some pretty cool features such as the 100 fps option (except I can't get that stuff off the camera yet)

  • What is the most suitable image format for processing with imaq?

    Hello.
    What is the most
suitable image format for processing with imaq?
I want to capture an image of a usb webcam, store and
then process it with imaq. I need to know what format to save the
captured image can then load and process it with imaq vision.
    Thanks

The only criteria is: don't use JPEG for anything scientific!  The compression involved with saving JPEGs means you always lose information.  I tend to prefer PNG - it's compressed, but non-lossy, and also widely supported.  TIFF is fine as well, but I don't think has any advantages over PNG for this application.  JPEG2000 can give good non-lossy compression I think is slower to read/write than PNG.

What is the best wireless camera that will work with my mac?

Any reliable brand that claims Mac compatibility.
Different wireless cams (wi-fi versus BlueTooth) may work better for different purposes, so ask your retailer for one that best does what you want to do with it.  For some examples of all kinds and types, click the link at the end of this sentence to see results of this search for your posted question.

  • FUhr: myFirstMIDlet - what is the most compatible configuration? request fo

    Hello,
I have just programmed for the first time in java, and in j2me,
using sun's j2se and j2me. On my own phone, nokia 6230, the
midlet works well. Also in the sun- and nokia6230-emulator.
But a friend with a slightly older Nokia phone couldn't get
it working. Some "not supported" error message.
Please have a look at the following JAR, it's really really
small (<4kB), so cheap to download to your phone.
It's very interesting for me, on which phones which version works:
    http://www.andreasK.de/fuhr/s01/fuhr.jar JTWI MIDP2.0 CLDC1.0
    http://www.andreasK.de/fuhr/s02/fuhr.jar JTWI MIDP2.0 CLDC1.1
    http://www.andreasK.de/fuhr/s03/fuhr.jar MIDP1.0 CLDC1.0
    http://www.andreasK.de/fuhr/s04/fuhr.jar MIDP1.0 CLDC1.1
Thanks a lot, already in advance!
Probably the most compatible is s03, isn't it?
    Do many phones use that?
What do you think about the program? Please tell me your opinion.
It's for a festival, the probably best place on earth
    next weekend: www.fusion-festival.de
Back to my program. The most urgent improvements are:
    * a continuous update whenever a new "real" minute begins
    - any hints how to do that? Timer? Events?
    * a key-lock feature so that the programm can continue
to run while the phone is in the pocket.
Can I "overload" the standard keypress-routine?
    How to?
    * a bigger fJahr:1887 display.
It's already the biggest font size, and changing the font
seems to work only with MIDP2.0.
Any hints how to draw a bigger 4-digits-number,
    perhaps even in MIDP1.0?
    * automatically recalculate whenever one of the datetime fields
has been changed by the user. how to?
    thanks a lot!

    Heho,
There is a newer version now, without any double variable.
I hope that solves the "floatingpoint not supported" problem.
    Please try now:
    http://www.andreasK.de/fuhr/s04/fuhr.jar (v1.6)
    or http://www.andreasK.de/fuhr.jar (v1.6)
Thanks a lot, already in advance!
Probably the most compatible setting is (MIDP1.0 CLDC1.0), isn't it?

  • What is the most popular Video format for pc's and Mac's to just play

I made a video that had some shots in HD using my Canon HG10 and some shot were regular NTSC. I made a final quicktime output, and gave it to my client. It plays the sound but not the video. So I condensed the video to a smaller format NTSC w/ 16:9 aspect ratio, and no she says the quality is almost not playable. Everything plays and works fine, even the same files that I give to her. She also wants to be able to play the video in loops. What is the best program for a PC to do that?
    Thank you

Try exporting in Uncompressed 8 bit or Animation. Also save the file in the Quicktime Player to play in High Quality. If you export in NTSC/DV, quicktime will play a low quality version by default. Go to Window > Show Movie Properties > Video Track > Visual Settings, and check the High Quality checkbox and save the file.
I wouldn't recommend H.264. It's a lossy codec for mobile devices and the web.

  • What is the most reliable external hard drive?

At the beginning of the month I almost lost everything on my computer. So I am now looking for an external hard drive to back everything up. So that never happens again. I'm just scared to get one that is not reliable.

There is no such animal, but you can have some control by DIY.
    Basic Backup
Get an external drive at least equal in size to the internal hard drive and make (and maintain) a bootable clone/backup. You can make a bootable clone using the Restore option of Disk Utility. You can also make and maintain clones with good backup software. My personal recommendations are (order is not significant):
    Carbon Copy Cloner
    Data Backup
    Deja Vu
    SuperDuper!
    Synk Pro
    Tri-Backup
Visit The XLab FAQs and read the FAQ on backup and restore.  Also read How to Back Up and Restore Your Files.
Although you can buy a complete external drive system, you can also put one together if you are so inclined.  It's relatively easy and only requires a Phillips head screwdriver (typically.)  You can purchase hard drives separately.  This gives you an opportunity to shop for the best prices on a hard drive of your choice.  Reliable brands include Seagate, Hitachi, Western Digital, Toshiba, and Fujitsu.  You can find reviews and benchmarks on many drives at Storage Review.
    Enclosures for FireWire and USB are readily available.  You can find only FireWire enclosures, only USB enclosures, and enclosures that feature multiple ports.  I would stress getting enclosures that use the Oxford chipsets especially for Firewire drives (911, 921, 922, for example.)  You can find enclosures at places such as;
    Cool Drives
    OWC
    WiebeTech
    Firewire Direct
    California Drives
    NewEgg
All you need do is remove a case cover, mount the hard drive in the enclosure and connect the cables, then re-attach the case cover.  Usually the only tool required is a small or medium Phillips screwdriver.
At least if you buy a drive you can choose to purchase one with a good warranty. Enterprise level drives are more expensive but carry 5 year warranties such as a Seagate 7200 RPM Barracuda. Likewise, you can spend a little extra on a high quality case such as those made by WiebeTech. Slightly different components if you are going for a portable drive in which case using a Mercury enclosure from OWC with a Seagate Momentus drive.

  • What is the most compatible automator webcam?

I've tried a firewire DV camera that works in all other programs except automator. Does not have to be super high quality infact I need one as cheap as possible but which cameras are compatible?

I have found the Motu MTPAVUSB to be very fast and dependable. unfortunately it does not support 23.976fps timecode because midi does not support 23.976fps. but it does support all the other frame rates.

  • What is the best touch screen display to use with a Mac mini?

Hello, forgive me I am not an expert when it comes to technology. I am thinking of changing my work computer system to a Mac mini at the moment as we have limited space and love the design of the Mac mini. We currently have an outdated dell computer linked to an ELO touch screen as part of our till system. I was just wondering if there were any recommended touch screen monitors that work well (not to much driver hassle) with the mini and are thin and easy on the eye.
Any advice would be gratefully received.
    Many Thanks

Having a secure backup in case the wireless devices fail in some way, downloading and installing large updates.

  • What about the ati radeon 4870 makes it incompatible with '07 mac pros?

maybe a stupid question but there ya go.

OWC was selling some OEM Apple 3870's last summer, short supply, never were sold by Apple, and unlike the retail 3870s, these would ONLY work in the 2008 Mac Pro.... so there is some precedent that the new Apple branded may not work in our EFI32 systems also.
Or ATI could come out with another retail version; but this time around I'm not yet seeing a universal statement "works on any Mac Pro" for hardware requirements.
"EFI64" is how folks talk about it, but may not be technically correct term, and just something we "made up" to describe - the whole need for two sets of EBC firmware for two versions of the Nvidia 8800GTs out there.
(I thought EFI would begin to take off or be used more in the PC universe or something by HP and others but it is only officially supported on 64-bit OS/hardware. Snow Leopard will use 64-bit drivers. I wonder if that is part of the move to EFI64 or whatever the rightful name.)

Using OS 10.4.11 on a PowerPc G5, what is the most efficient way to backup?

Look at Mac Backup - Mac Backup Software, Hardware, and Guides for Your Mac http://macs.about.com/od/usingyourmac/tp/backuphub.htm and  Mac OS X data backup FAQ http://www.macmaps.com/backup.html  and Important Mac Backup Tips- Time Machine, CCC, SuperDuper http://mikosweb.com/it-advice-blog/70-mac-backup-tips Here's a list/description of Mac backup software http://www.pure-mac.com/backup.html
The majority of Mac users use CarbonCopy Cloner @ http://www.bombich.com/software/ccc.html , or SuperDuper @ http://www.shirt-pocket.com/SuperDuper/SuperDuperDescription.html . You can also use or the Restore function of Disk Utility included in OS X.
When you backup, boot into Safe Mode (depress the Shift key at startup) and the backup will be safer and faster.

  • What is the most efficient (in terms of cost) way to transfer 35 mm slides to my iMac hard drive?

What is the most cost efficient way to transfer 35mm slide images to my iMac hard drive?

    This gives you the basics
    http://www.tech-faq.com/how-to-copy-slides-to-disk.htm
The first option, the professional one, isn't the cheapest - but the results should be good.
The second option is very appealing. Some printers come with brackets that can be used to scan film or slides.
The third option is a slide scanner. I haven't used this option, but there's a significant startup cost of under $100.
In short, a scanner is the cheapest and most efficient option.

I just downloaded Firefox 6.0. The web page asked if I wanted to upgrade. What is the most recent version of Firefox and why can't I get it denoted in the propperties link? Also why is it not compatible with AVG Tool Bar?

Firefox 6.0 is the current version.
Get what denoted in what properties link.
You can get the version number in Help -> About Firefox,
and in '''about:support''' typed into the Location bar, and you can use JavaScript to list the user agent -- javascript:navigator.userAgent
I'm not aware of any version of Firefox from Fx 2 on up to Fx 6 where "AVG Safe" is not a problem. Crashes aren't the only failures caused.
