What is the v$resource in 10g??

Hi, all.
What is the v$resource in 10g??
The folloing link is not sufficient to understand.
http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B19306_01/server.102/b14237/dynviews_2049.htm#sthref3892
Is there anyone who could provide me with a little more details??
Thanks and Regards.

This is somewhat internal view, which means you don't need to know in detail.
Anyway, see following:
SQL> SELECT view_definition FROM v$fixed_view_definition
where view_name = 'GV$RESOURCE';
==>
select inst_id,addr,ksqrsidt,ksqrsid1,ksqrsid2 from x$ksqrs where bitand(ksqrsflg,2)!=0
The base x$ table is x$ksqrs, which means "enqueue resource".
To understand this, you need to be familiar with some terminologies.
- enqueue lock: special type of lock. sometimes called just "enqueue".
- enqueue resources: resources which are protected by enqueue lock.
Enqueue resource is identifed by following info:
resource type(2) + resource identifer1 + resource identifier2
For instance, a table whose id is 1000 is represented as [TM+1000+0]. A sequence whose id is 888 is represented as [SQ+888+0].
Every resource which is protected by enqueue lock is exposed via V$RESOURCE view. And equeue lock is exposed exposed via V$LOCK view. The relationship between V$RESOURCE and V$LOCK is 1:m. For instance, let's assume that table 1000 is locked by session 1 in exclusive mode, and session 2 is waiting to lock the same table in exclusive mode. In this case, one record(TM+1000+0) is registered in V$RESOURCE view, and two records(one blocker+one blockee) are registered in V$LOCK view.
You need to google "Oracle enqueue resource" or something.
Hope this helps.
PS) 99% of locks in Oracle are "enqueue lock", which are exposed via V$RESOURCE and V$LOCK view. But some locks are not exposed by these views. For instance, library cache lock is exposed via X$KGLLK, library cache pin is exposed via X$KGLPN.

  • What is the best resource for Discoverer novice.

I need direction in this tool. what is the best resource for me to use.

    Hi Ade
You could do a lot worse than get hold of a copy of the Oracle Discoverer 10g Handbook that I wrote. It will walk you through much of what you need to know. You can find it on amazon.com or via a link from my website: http://learndiscoverer.com/books/books.htm
Another good resource would be a training class in either the Admin tool or End User tool or both. Oracle Corporation offer excellent training as do many other companies, including mine. Just google Discoverer Training.
Further resources are the Oracle By Example series on the OTN forum. These are free. You will find the Discoverer lessons here: http://www.oracle.com/technology/obe/obe_bi/discoverer/discoverer_1012/index.html
Other resources, such as blogs, abound on the web too. Here are some:

  • What are the database resources when collecting stats using dbms_stats

    Hello,
We have tables that contain stale stats and would want to collect stats using dbms_stats with estiamte of 30%. What are the database resources that would be consummed when dbms_stats is used on a table? Also, would the table be locked during dbms_stats? Thank you.

    1) I'm not sure what resources you're talking about. Obviously, gathering statistics requires I/O since you've got to read lots of data from the table. It requires CPU particularly if you are gathering histograms. It requires RAM to the extent that you'll be doing sorts in PGA and to the extent that you'll be putting blocks in the buffer cache (and thus causing other blocks to age out), etc. Depending on whether you immediately invalidate query plans, you may force other sessions to start doing a lot more hard parsing as well.
    2) You cannot do DDL on a table while you are gathering statistics, but you can do DML. You would generally not want to gather statistics while an application is active.

  • What time the Oracle Data Mining 10g  ?

If you are referring to the 10.1 release of the ODM user interface, that should be available in beta form very shortly(a couple weeks) with the final release very soon after that.

  • How do I know what is the minimum resource requirement for OLAP 11g?

How do I know for OLAP 11gR1 ...
    1. what is the minimum number of CPUs and speed required
    2. how much minimum physical memory, SGA, PGA etc. is required?
    Regards, Anirban

    Hello Anirban,
In summary, since the OLAP option is an option to Oracle Database 11g, Enterprise Edition the minimum requirements in order to run the database would be identical to those necessary to run a "Data Warehousing" type installation. That being said starting up a database is a far cry from actually performing well while accessing and building OLAP Cubes in your Database.
There are lots of things to consider. For example: the complexity of your model; data sparcity; level of aggregation; system load, SLAs, etc..
Lets look at true minimum requirements and then consider what it would take to achieve good performance in your environment
    TRUE MINIMUM...
I performed a test in my environment (Oracle Database 11g Release 2 (11.2.0.2.0) on Oracle Enterprise Linux 5.5) using Analytic Workspace Manager 11.2.0.2.0A and found the following minimum settings to work against the OLAPTRAIN schema (You may find it here http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/database/options/olap/index.html). This is a very small schema which we use for demonstration purposes.
I discovered that the database started with a memory_target of only 160m (apparently this is the absolute minimum for my environment). I knew that if the database successfully started that I would be able to query the Cube but maintain it? Running queries against the OLAPTRAIN Sales Cube, despite being slow, worked as anticipated. Next, I performed a maintain operation on the Sales Cube where I had to abort the job because it ran into memory issues at 160m, however, when I increased it to only 180m it did a complete maintain in a reasonable timeframe, albeit slow considering the limited resources.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS TO ENSURE REASONABLE PERFORMANCE IN YOUR ENVIRONMENT
Most importantly ensure you have a good cube design
Run a sample set of your data in order to define what "reasonable performance" is for your environment. Create a small representative cube in order to test both build and query performance while collecting and analyzing database statistics through AWR and ADDM. For OLAP option specific queries please take a look at http://wiki.oracle.com/page/OLAP+option+-DBASample+Scripts.
You could creat a view on top of your fact table and use the view to generate your OLAP Cube. This will allow you to test a more manageable amount of data. For example, if you have 10 years of data and want to determine the footprint and resources required in order to manage a Cube of this volume then consider scoping it down to a few months first then increase it by a measured amount in order to predict requirements. Monitor your resources and ensure you balance I/O, memory and processors. Since the OLAP option is a Enterprise Edition option it falls under Data Warehousing. As such there is plenty of literature available on oracle.com in order to define what it takes to achieve a balanced Data Warehouse.
I would recommend contacting Oracle Consulting or an Oracle Partner to determine the best fit for your environment.

  • What are the differences between ESB 10g and OSB 10g

    Hi,
I'm newbie to OSB 10g. I have installed OSB 10g.
I came to know after Oracle acquired BEA, the ALSB is renamed as OSB.
I'm curious to know what are the differences between ESB and OSB.
If there are many differences, please post any links which provide the required information in detail.
    Thanks in advance.
    Regards,
    Udaya

the 'old' esb has been renamed to mediator and is now only used as component in your sca application.
the two service buses can't really be compared since the osb (former alsb) has way more functionality in it.
Oracle gave it it's own place in his soa portfolio and the old esb can only be used als mediator in your sca application.
On top of your sca application you could use the OSB to complete your architecture design.
    the difference between both.
esb (now used as mediator) can only be used in your sca application
in here you will use it mostly for routing/transformation, and there is some functionality for assign/java callouts conditional routing
the osb is complete product with a lot of functionality in it. Everything you used the old 'esb' for can be done in the OSB and with a lot of extra's.
    routing/transformation/service call outs/java callouts/transport virtualization/security/and more and more
you should read the guides of the OSB to get an idea of everything it can do for you.

  • What are the best resources for learning JSP?

In your experience, what have been the best resources for learning JSP? I am new to this, and so far have been plugging away at a "Dummies" book. Hopefully there are other inexpensive ways (I checked the book out at the library), to learn it, and possibly even less boring (though I doubt it). I can deal with the boring, but I was wondering if I was going about learning it the best way.

  • What causes the 4055 (Resource in Conflict) exception?

While trying out a example in JMS P2P domain
    I get a exception
    javax.jms.JMSException: [C4055]: Resource in conflict
while trying to run multiple instances of Consumer class
    <<AsynchConsumer.java>> <<Producer.java>>
    What's wrong here ?

If you are running multiple instances of your consumer class
with same queue name, you would get the "Resource in conflict"
exception. Because by default a queue can only have one
consumer at a time. For more information on iMQ destination
management, please see iMQ administration guide.
Set the queue delivery policy to round robin. E.g.
    jmqcmd create dst -n myQueue -t q -o "queueDeliveryPolicy=r"

  • What is the minimum required for 10g RAC AIX 5.2L on a SAN

    We have the following
    2 IBM p550's with AIX 5.2L
    Oracle 10g
    Hitachi SAN
    The questions I have are
    1. Does one need any addtional software such as HACMP ?
    2. Can one use just RAW 'disks' and not use ASM ?
    3. Can one using just the raw 'disks' presented by the SAN with ASM ?
    Anything else ?
    Thank you,
    -pete

Oracle says that from 10g onwards, not need to have any other cluster software since it is providing CRS (cluster ready services) with 10g. However, having HACMP installed would be a good idea. I heard many problem, earliy release of 10g, aboug just using CRS instead of other clustered services.
Well, we are using SHARQ d240 storage, but, didn't required any raw partition, and also not using ASM. Basically, we are in a testing mode.

  • What is the process of upgrading 10g Express to Standard/Ent Edition?

We would like to start rolling out Oracle 10g Express to our clients when the production release is available. Our issue is that 50% of our client will stay within the limits of 10g Express (4G of user data etc), 30% of our clients will start on Express and after a few years they will need to upgrade from Oracle 10g Express to Oracle Standard Edition One. The remaining 20% will start with Oracle Standard Edition One or Enterprise Edition.
For our 30% which may need to upgrade from 10g Express to 10g Standard Edition One, once they encounter the limitations of 10g Express, how do we upgrade? Is it a re-install or just a magic key that needs to be entered to remove the 10g Express restrictions?
    Cheers,
    Tim.

(Not answering on behalf of Oracle ...)
I suspect the upgrade will consist of two parts: 1) get the new Oracle software in place - the one that does not have the limits as well as includes all the new and neat capabilites; and 2) apply the dictionary changes to the database that will allow advanced features and functions to work (for example: RMAN backup and recovery, job scheduler, centralized admin)
One question that I'd have .... how much down time would be tolerated. I'd expect a 4GB export/import to take, say, under 25 minutes. That would let you install the new software, create a new database to hold the stuff, export, import and go.
An upgrade, with testing, I'd expect to take about one 8-hour day. (About 25 minutes for the actual upgrade, 7-1/2 hours to test, verify that the packages for Standard/Enterprise are installed, verify that the Enterprise Manager & RMAN are operational, etc.) ;-0

  • What are the most resource intensive Photoshop tutorials or Action Scripts

I'm trying to benchmark some RAM on a machine, and was planning on using Photoshop as a portion of the real world tests. So I was wondering what some of the most resourse intensive, yet realistic and common things to do are.
Alternatively, perhaps somebody knows of some highly complex tutorials I can follow along to and create a Action script myself. I just don't want my tests to be "Opened random image, doubled size, rotated 12-degreese, apply filter, bla bla bla".
I've been googling around a bit but nothing really caught my eye. I'd rather hear from real people than read through a bunch of "100 best photoshop Action scripts" all day, yaknow?
    Cheers

  • What is the best resource to change a broken screen?

I dropped my iPhone 4 on a rock and cracked the screen.  I learned about others who had their iPhone screens crack. I heard that Verizon told a customer to contact the Apple Store for a replacement.  The same customer said she heard about buying iPhone 4 replacement screen kits on the Internet and doing it yourself for $20-$40.  I read several postings of recommendations at Amazon about various opinions on expense aftermarket screens versus less expensive ones.  I am looking for any information from true Apple fans like myself who had this problem and have some experience as to the best way to proceed with replacing my screen, at the most affordable price, without buying "cheap" products.
    Thank you

I am fairly tech savy, just not always using common sense...
I bought a replacement glass/digitizer and a seperate replacement tool kit on eBay.  After shopping around on Amazon and reading the postings, I found what I needed on eBay at an affordable price with a reliable warranty.  I have the You Tube instructions and I am changing my screen this weekend.  After a few hours of quiet time, I am sure I'll have it done without too much difficulty.
    Thank you for the suggestions.
