  • What are .dbf Files in $ORACLE_HOME.dbs?

It has been brought to my attention that my disk usage on my new system jumped from 22% to 68% last night. The culprit appears to be the .dbf files in $ORACLE_HOME.dbs. What are these files? Where can I go to learn more about them and what to expect of them?
    Thanks,
    Gregory

Wow, I should have known better than to start a thread and then go to lunch. Sorry I’m taking so long getting back to all of you.
This is Oracle 11g. Our current production system is 10g.
Here’s a little background info. We have a flat file base ERP. Each night we copy .txt files from the ERP to the Oracle server. We have external tables, table_name_load, mapped over the .txt files. At midnight, we run a massive collection of inserts into regular tables from the load tables. We then use this day-old set of data as the basis for reports and several ApEx applications.
You’re right, I can’t claim to have a good understanding of Optimal Flexible Architecture (OFA). I’m a developer first and I’m working on DBA skills.
The files are all named something like:
    arch1_191_653243844.dbf
    arch1_192_653243844.dbf
    arch1_193_653243844.dbf
    etc.
There are over 300 of them and they are about 45M to 50M each. (The whole directory is about 14G.)
    SID is oraprod
I specified locations for each of the three datafiles for our main tablespace (on three different drives), a secondary “hot” tablespace with the most frequently accessed datafile, three index datafiles for our main index tablespace, the “hot” index tablespace, temp, undo, and the control files.
The only things that I did not specify a location for are: sysaux; system; and users.
    SQL> select name from v$datafile;

Based on what I’ve read in the 2 Day DBA, I put my flash recovery area all alone on /d04 and I have USE_DB_RECOVERY_FILE_DEST set.
The files were created at two times: one during my initial data load yesterday; the other during the scheduled job this morning starting at midnight.
After checking our production system, I realize that we have a whole bunch of these same kinds of files in $ORACLE_HOME/dbs there also. However, I only have them from last night, not two separate times.
I’m concerned that the older files on the new system aren’t clearing out like the files on the production system are.

Go through the attached Publishing Companion Guide. You need to create Mobile Provisioning files using Apple iOS provisioning Portal. The guide gives you step by step information on creating these.

  • "What kind of file is this?" message

When I try to open GB projects (created in GB3 and stored on a hard disk) now in GB 08 I get the message "RecordingXXX. What kind of file is this?" and the only option I have is "Abort." Then I get a message that some of the regions are 8-bit. When the GB file opens, several regions will not play/are not there.
    Any help?
    RS

I'm getting the same thing in Logic Express.

  • "What kind of file is this" Loop Browser error

    Hi there,
I just re-installed Logic after doing an erase & install of my system. Seems okay so far, except that when I open the Loop Browser and click on a loop to hear it, I get the error message:
"Club Dance Beat 002 [or whatever the loop name is].caf" - what kind of file is this?
And then there's an 'Abort' button, but no other options. The file won't preview, nor will it drop into my Arrange window when I try to drag it over. This happens with both green & blue (midi & audio) loops in the browser.
    Odd. Any thoughts? Thanks!

Sorry so long to respond to this. Apparently my 'Subscribe to this Topic' notification thing isn't working, and I didn't realize there had been any responses....
I've re-installed from the Logic content disc, but still no change. From the other discussions I've read, it looks like most folks encountered this when they installed GB08 AFTER Logic was already on their system. After I did my erase & install, I installed iLife 08 BEFORE I installed Logic Pro. Would that be causing this weirdness?
Odder still is that the ONLY loops I'm finding on my computer are the GB08 Loops (and iLife sound effects), but then maybe I'm not looking in the right place for the Logic loops? Further, in my GB08 loops folder, there seem to be .caf and.aiff versions of each loop, but no matter what I try to use in Logic's Loop Browser, I get the same error about the caf file....
    Perplexed.

  • Deciding what kind of file to use to display a message

I have an email system which is a pop system that basically pulls my emails from gmail. And I am trying to also view these emails. In particular cases, emails are just simple plaintext and so I can just display that in a JTextArea or something like that. But certain emails are much more complicated and I do not know how to display it. For example, here is the content from an email: (scroll all the way down for the rest of my question)

*So how would I display this email to the user. I tried placing this in a text file and then making that an html file, but that didn't work. What kind of file/what would I use to display this email in Java? Thanks for your help!*
    *Robert*

did you put the entire content of the email in a file and try to load it as html? is so, that would be your problem. that email is a mime multipart, which means there are separate sections which are different types. if you take the second part, between the "<html>....</html>" tags, that should be a valid html. the first part is plain text. please read up on mime multipart encoding and that should give you a better idea how to handle these emails.

WHAT KIND OF FILES CAN YOU EDIT IN IMOVIE!

The PCMCIA digital TV tuner card I have is the Formac Watchandgo which I purchased here for the equivalent of around US$50:
    http://www.formac.com/webapp/productsavwatchandgo.php
However, it is only usable in countries which use the PAL TV system (such as Europe and here in Australia).
I’m not familiar with the American NTSC TV system, or what TV tuners might be available. You will probably find most tuners are USB these days.

What kind of files are compatible with iMovie?

    Hello Jonsi41,
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.
For more information on this, take a look at:
    Import video from movie files

files can be in a number of formats, including MPEG-4 and standard (DV) file formats and some .mov file formats.

  • ".aif - What kind of file is this?" (Logic asks)

Hi, I'm having problems with Logic right now. When I try to import an audio file into the arrange window, Logic says "Cannot open 'file.aif' - what kind of file is this?" This happens when I try to import all different varieties of files, most of them not AIFs.
Before I got Logic, GarageBand was also having this problem.
I got a M-Audio FastTrack Pro recently. Is it possible that this has something to do with it?
Also, QuickTime is not able to play audio files (and possibly video, though I haven't tried). Who knows if that is related.
Any help would be great. I'm wanting to be able to import song files into what I'm doing right now, but unfortunately, it's currently impossible.
    Thanks.

    Hi,
The problem is that you must have installed some new software, which has now changed the assignment of .aiff extensions, so that now, your Mac does not open them with the right software.
You need to repair permission,s and also re-bind the links between the document types and the applications.
    Cheers

  • "____.m4a" - what kind of file is this? (What kind of question is this?)

    Hi,
I recently got a new MacBook, and installed my copy of Logic Express 7 on it. I previously had it running on my old MacBook, with no problems. My new MacBook has Leopard on it, and my old one had Tiger.
When I try to open a project that uses samples from ".m4a" sound files, I get the message "'__.m4a' - what kind of file is this?" I am forced to hit "abort" for every sample in the project, and once I've done this, Logic gives me the message "Logic Express has found 109 files in 8-bit format. This format is unsupported and cannot be played back." I then hit "OK," and my project loads, full of blank samples.
No other audio applications are experiencing any sorts of problems like these. On my old MacBook, I had similar problems (http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=991819&tstart=1245), but these were not specific to Logic. I've tried "Verifying Drive" and "Repairing Permissions" in Disk Utility, as was the suggestion last time I got a similar message, but it hasn't worked at all.
Does anyone have any ideas as to how I might fix this?
    Thanks very much!
    - David

Convert the m4a files into aiff or wav files. and then re-import them into your project sampler.
    Cheers

Is the Creative Cloud just for files created by the Touch Apps, or can I store other kinds of files there?  Are there any limitations on file types?

  • What kind of file is "Quicktime Movie" file?

Hi, I posted this in the "Connecting the Fifth Generation iPod to Windows" section but I got no replys.
    The Question was:
I was looking at my collection and I see some movies/videos with the extention "Quicktime movie file" what type of file is this?
My guess is that it is H.264 but please let me know if it isn't.
    Thanks
    Jason

  • What kind of file is this?

I just received what looks like an Adobe Illustrator file, but the graphic appears to be a bitmapped image. What the heck is going on? How can I verify the file type?

What exactly is the artwork in question?  A logo? An image?
I've had people send this kind of thing before.
For a job, they will send a logo which is just a lo-res jpeg, not suitable for printing. I will tell them I need a vector EPS version of this logo; but they just re-save the jpeg as an EPS and think that is good enough
