What makes flash site small?

I keep on building and expanding the site and it gets bigger and bigger. Now it is over 4MB and I still have to do plenty of image additons.
I assumed that if I trim all the images I should be fine. So I went back in and made sure that all the images are at 72DPI, saved as 24PNG, and scaled down to about 75% on the screen from its original version (I did this just in case if someone will have a larger monitor than mine so all of them have enough resolution/size to be enlarged and appear nicely) But the site is still too big.
Larger PopUp windows are done as UI Loaders so they can not affect the size of the main file.
I can not figure out what else can be done.
I use one image for all the symbols. For example there is a small button of a product represented as a product photo which repeats on the other section of the site as an animated collage. Animated collage would require a bigger photo of this same product. So I would import this bigger photo and use it for a bigger collage and smaller button as not to incert a smaller png of the same file and to increase the file size.
The frame rate is set to 30fps.
The rest is code.
Can anyone suggest or point me in a right direction to what are the standard practices to keep the flash site small and where the main size guzzlers would be located?

Thank you, I understand now. Image quality is at my own discretion. I am
the best judge of what I see on the screen. I went through the files and
was able to shave off 0.5MB in size.
Could you please tell me why it is better to use mc instead of buttons,
rather than buttons.
Is this the best code for creating mc buttons:
// Btn1 Over function
function amimated_btnOver(event:MouseEvent):void {
amimated_btn.gotoAndPlay("over"); // go into btn1 movieclip and play the
over frame label
// Btn1 Out function
function amimated_btnOut(event:MouseEvent):void {
amimated_btn.gotoAndPlay("out"); // go into btn1 movieclip and play the out
frame label
// Btn1 Down function
function amimated_btnDown(event:MouseEvent):void {
//this.gotoAndPlay("myLabel"); // play any frame label in any movieclip
// Btn1 listeners
amimated_btn.addEventListener(MouseEvent.ROLL_OVER, amimated_btnOver);
amimated_btn.addEventListener(MouseEvent.ROLL_OUT, amimated_btnOut);
amimated_btn.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK, amimated_btnDown);
What is your opinion on creating buttons using tweener engine?
Thanks

  • Files needed to make Flash site live

    My Flash site is now complete. At this point what are my next
    steps in making my Flash site live (i.e., uploading to a server).
    What are the necessary files that I need and do I need to use
    Dreamweaver, and if so what is the process to make my site live in
    that manner? Please help!

    you can use Flash to publish your site.. File---Publish
    Settings, make sure the .swf and .html boxes are checked, and you
    can rename your HTML file, i like to use index since that is what
    browsers look for first, then hit Publish... you can then open up
    the newly created HTML file (found in the same folder as your FLA)
    in a text editor, or dreamweaver, and edit the Title, and whatever
    else you want, save, then upload the HTML and SWF file to your
    server/hosting client..

  • How to publish a small size flash site

    I have made a total flash site but the exported site is 50 mb!!
    Not a usable size, so I want to know how to make this site 'smaller'.
    there are a ton of flash sites on the www, so I must do something wrong..
    What is the normal file-size for a flash site?
    pleas help.

    Daan

    Typically a flash file only gets that large when you embed a lot of images or video.
    If you want to shrink the size of the SWF, you will want to externalize those assets somehow.  If video, use progressive download and an FLVPlayback component.  If images, save them to a directory and load them at runtime with a Loader component.  Audio can be loaded at runtime very easily as well.
    If there is detailed animation over the video that isn't interactive, export the entire animation as a video, and then load that in another file to decrease initial load time.
    Typically, these days, a good size SWF comes in around 1-2 MB.  Ideally it would be much smaller than that, wherein the initial load should really be about 30-60 kb, so it will open in 1-3 seconds on a 56k connection, and then all other assets load after the initial load.

  • Best way to make a Flash site

    I.
    I'm working on my first Flash site and, since I'm quite new to Flash, I've been exhausting myself seeing all kind of tutorials in order to avoid any common/beginner mistakes.
    So, my question is: should I build my Flash site in a single file or should I build page per file (ex: index.html, about.html, contacts.html, etc.)? The reason I'm asking this is because in one of the tutorials - Lynda.com, Flash CS4 Professional Creating a First Web Site (Paul Trani) - the site is all in a sinlge file and the menus are located in diferent parts on the timeline (check image)...
    Thanx.

    There are all kinds of ways to design a site, so asking which is better than another is more often going to get you a response involving a personal preference - and it is okay to have your own preference.
    But if you are intending to create a true Flash site, then that term is usually moreso associated with having just one html page.  The Flash content is where you make the decisions you are asking about... whether to include it all in one Flash file or to create separate Flash files (per section) that get loaded into a main Flash file.
    The bottom line... pick what you are comfortable with and get the experience under your belt.  Since you indicated this is your first Flash site, if that means there will be more, then you can use those opportunities to try different approaches.

  • What is the best way to create a Flash site

    Hello Everyone,
    I am realtively new to flash. I created the splash page of
    our site in flash but 1st off it takes to long to load as it is.
    But I would like to create the entire site in Flash. What is the
    best way to create a Flash site, and are there tutorials out there
    or any really good books, resources, or online classes to learn
    Flash well. I understand the basic of flash and have created
    banners, and other flash materials.
    Can anyone help?

    For me, as a noob, It's all about creative problem solving.
    For lots of stuff, there's no right or wrong solution, but you have
    to figure things out on your own. I, too, have built sites from the
    ground up, and then rebuilt them even better. It's the only way to
    really learn it well. Books, online forums, help docs all sort of
    help, but it all comes down to how innovative you can be with
    integrating them all into a site that is completely yours.
    This might save you loads of headaches: avoid using scenes,
    unless you are doing only animation. Keep each of your 'pages' on
    their own keyframe, and use 'gotoAndStop' to navigate through them.
    This is perhaps the easiest way to create a website quickly.

  • Do Flash Sites appear? if not what happens and what does it look like?

    Has anyone tried any Flash based websites to see what it looks like?
    If anyone has any screen captures or photos of the iPhone viewing Flash sites, I'm interested to see what happens before I buy an iPhone. Thanks

    Hi,
    Right now you cannot download anything to the Iphone, as there is no user access to the file system.
    You can download to your computer and then sync to move pictures, songs, etc to the phone through itunes for now.
    Hope this helps!

  • How to make a Flash site more searchable

    Hi all,
    I was wondering how to make a Flash site more searchable in
    search engines. I'm guessing it is with meta tags, can anyone tell
    me which meta tags or if there are any other hints or tricks.
    Thanks,
    MediaMan5335

    Sad to say MediaMan5335, there's no real defined way to read
    a Flash movie file. Currently there are tips and tricks to do it,
    but all of them are merely patches to somethin long overdue and
    needed. Since Google is setting the trend, the best way to gain
    ranking is to follow their set of new rules.
    There were several ways to gain rankings, whether is be
    paying your way to the top, putting multiple links within your
    site, or placing tons of words that would be read by spiders.
    Google has multiple articles pertaining to Search Engine
    Optizmization or SEO. Head on over to Google and just type in
    "Google SEO" and you'll find a multitude of articles.
    Right now to answer your question, META KEYWORDS and META
    DESCRIPTION are your best tools for METAs. Having legit links
    INBOUND and OUTBOUND will help.
    Currently there a several companies working on allowing SWFs
    to be read by Search Engines. Hopefully this helps answer your
    question. SEO can be a daunting thing.

  • What size flash are your sites?

    Hope this question isn't redundant. What size do you design
    your websites?

    I usually make my sites on a 800 x 600 stage. The reason?
    Because i use msn as my browser and the window is just a bit larger
    than this. Any larger than that and i have to scroll along or down.
    I figure not everyone is looking at an ultra slim, state of
    the art, wide screen monitor. Id prefer to buy myself a new pair of
    trainers :)

  • Advice on how to keep Flash website small & fast

    Hi, I'm developing my first Flash website (I know, I know, there are plenty of reasons to use other development products, but for now it will be Flash), and I envision a site with several pages and needing to load some large graphics.  I'm doing the main design work in Illustrator and importing it into Flash.  I'm not too concerned with animation except perhaps moving some buttons around.  My plan so far is to use a lot of UI loaders to keep the main .swf small and to really try to keep the coding pretty simple as I'm a newbie anyway.  I'm looking for general advice on how to prevent the main site from loading quickly - for example, I don't have a good sense of the best format to use for graphics, or which makes the site slower: using several UI loaders or just keeping the content in the main site?  Is a lot of code or large graphics more draining on the load time?  Any thoughts on what you think I can do or not do to keep it lean would be super appreciated, or any other resources you might be able to point me to.
    Thanks in advance!

    Nah... really really stupid questions only get asked in non-Flash forums.  The size of the swf is not tied tot the size of the fla.  The fla has alot more baggage that inflates its size greatly compared to the swf it creates.  The swf will end up bearing the weight of whatever content you put in it.
    If you want to see what's adding weight to your swf, go into your Flash Publish Settings and select the option to Generate Size Report.  When you publish the file it will display a detailed report of each element and the weight it contributes to the swf.
    As far as dynamically loading swf's, it is often a necessity, unless the swf is strictly an animation.  If you import an swf into an fla file, all of the actionscript that might have been in it is stripped out.
    Code will have negligible weight in a file.  Images (large/heavy ones) can put lead shoes on a file, along with video and sound files.

  • How to insert videos in flash site

    hi
    you might have seen on many sites the affect in which small
    video clips of real people are imported into flash movies. e.g on a
    site some people are working in office and that video is loaded
    into the flash site but the people matches with the design of the
    site without their actual background etc.
    how this kind of video import is done? where i can upload my
    own video into flash site's some scene.
    thank you

    Hi
    thanks for your reply. I am not sure really how should I
    classify the videos I am taking about but let me try to explain...
    You might have seen NIKE websites about football and
    merchandise etc. On those website you will find a footballer
    playing with foot ball or if you have seen a site of an energy
    drink where there are few dancers, you need to answer few questions
    to get to the dance movie of a dancer.
    What I want to do is that I want to design a 3D environment
    for my flash website where I want to show some people working in
    office in a section of the site. For that I will make a video with
    my digital camera and will use it in the site. Similarly I want to
    show my own videos merged with the website design. So it sounds
    like I am acting within the wesite design environment.
    I hope I am clear enough now..

  • My Flash Site looks very low in quality (I'm viewing in High Quality)

    Hi all,
    I am wondering why this Flash site I've designed is so rough
    looking (indecipherable text, pixellated edges etc.).
    Because I was working with content already created in
    Illustrator (10), I copied them over to Flash (CS3) as vectors and
    resized them. I'm guessing this method may be a big factor but even
    text I added myself doesn't look as good as it should (namely the
    buttons and text in the 'Lotus' section); I added my own text using
    Flash.
    Here are two examples of the site (only the Lotus and
    Portfolio buttons work, clicking the Change and Grow icon takes you
    back to the home page):
    800x550
    Resolution
    Scales according
    to window size
    Also, if you go
    here you will see a
    simple jpeg.
    I'd prefer to keep the site at 800x550 resolution without
    rescaling but as you can see that isn't a good idea.
    [L=This
    site]http://ti.arc.nasa.gov/destination/iss/flash/index.html{/L]
    uses very small text (in the case of the menu on a black
    background) yet looks fine.
    Also, the thumbnail on the Portfolio page looks very bad even
    though it wasn't resized in any way using Flash (I reduced the size
    of the original image in Photoshop and changed the DPI from 200 to
    72, then imported it into Flash as a jpeg.
    Any help at all is very much appreciated!
    Niall
    PS. I changed the text to bold to make it a little clearer
    though I'd prefer to keep it regular.

    "I copied them over to Flash (CS3) as vectors and resized
    them" - what do you mean you copied over to Flash? Do you mean
    import?
    "text I added myself doesn't look as good as it should" -
    check your anti-aliasing in Flash
    "I'd prefer to keep the site at 800x550 resolution without
    rescaling but as you can see that isn't a good idea." - no,
    actually that is a good idea - not to rescale - any time you resize
    a flash document with rastered graphics, you will get distortion
    'uses very small text (in the case of the menu on a black
    background) yet looks fine." - they are using pixel fonts
    "Also, the thumbnail on the Portfolio page looks very bad
    even though it wasn't resized in any way using Flash (I reduced the
    size of the original image in Photoshop and changed the DPI from
    200 to 72, then imported it into Flash as a jpeg." - looks fine to
    me (on the unscaled version), but I don't have anything else to
    compare it to - check your image compression settings in flash
    (both under Publish Settings/flash tab and when you double click
    the bitmap in the library you can control compression settings.
    What level of compression are you using when saving from Photoshop?
    The word "graphic design" looks better here
    http://www.lotusgraphicdesign.net/
    then here
    http://www.lotusgraphicdesign.net/small.html
    , but they are different sizes. Which is the original size?
    Another note: "Because I was working with content already
    created in Illustrator (10), I copied them over to Flash (CS3) as
    vectors and resized them." if you actually imported an ai file into
    flash, I know it also imports clipping masks and things of that
    nature. When you resize an imported ai file, you may be getting
    weird results from also resizing the clipping masks, too. When I
    import an ai file, I break up everything as much as possible.
    Depending on how you import your ai file, bitmaps will be created,
    so make sure you stay away from bitmaps when possible when resizing
    any symbol.
    That's all I can really think of.

  • Flash site - swf file too large

    Hello,
    I have created a website using Flash CS5 using AS2. The site was completely custom designed using Photoshop and in then imported into Flash. The site has all of the pages in the main timeline on different keyframes, so say frame 2 is home, and frame 3 is services, etc. This is a site for my design portfolio so I have probably 5 galleries that I have made, but they are very simple, one frame will have the first picture, the next frame will have the second picture and so on. I have gotten my site exactly how I want it and works how I want it... but in the end the .swf file when published, is over 9MB which I know is wayyyyyy too large for a flash site that works fast for everyone.
    So how can I make this file size smaller. I am fairly new to this, although I had no problem getting my buttons to navigate with actionscript no problem, but my actionscript knowledge is very limited beyond that. I'm not sure where to go with this site to make the size smaller, so any help would be greatly appreciated.
    I can send someone the fla file to look at if needed.
    Thanks

    Thanks for the reply.
    Maybe you can help me a little more.
    I looked up some tutorials having to do with the AS2 xml galleries, and I found that almost all of them were for galleries with fancy scrolling options and slider bars, etc.
    My galleries are very very basic, thumbs are layed out on the left, click one and the image appears on the right. I'm not the best at using the actionscript and knowing what to do with all of it. So some of the tutorials made sense about getting files to load dynamically, but I'm not sure what code to keep in for my gallery, and what code to take out that I dont need for all the fancy effects.
    my site is http://www.mrolfedesigns.com
    as you can see, the galleries are pretty simple, I would like to keep them that way, and not have any complex scrolling or slider bars. Ive searched a lot into looking for some more simple tutorials, but am not finding any great ones that I can use.

  • Help Needed!! embeding a swf widget into a flash site

    Hi all.
    I am currently making a flash site for a band, and need to
    embed an external SWF widget into it.
    Its easy enough to embed it into HTML page, but idealy this
    site will endup a single SWF file, to make distribution onto the
    bands various pages (MYspace etc) easier.
    The code to embed in html is:
    <embed src="
    http://www.soundclick.com/player/V2/mp3player200.swf"
    width="200" height="140"
    flashvars="bandid=850463&playType=band&ext=1&testMode=0&autoplay=1"
    name="MP3PlayerBasic" type="application/x-shockwave-flash"
    wmode="transparent" pluginspage="
    http://www.macromedia.com/go/getflashplayer"
    />
    Some one told me it should be no probs to embed a swf with
    some sort of LoadMovie command, but he didnt have a qule about
    assigning flashvars to it.
    Any help here would ge greatly apreciated.
    Cheers.
    Sion

    I am listening to you and was letting you know that the code that I am trying to use is probably from an old forum. The code that Flash CS4 cranks out is about 10 pages long which seems a little much just to import an .swf with a transparent background. I don't imagine CS6 would be much shorter.
    From what I gathered, the html file checks to see what version of Flash you're using as well as what browser. The code for that is insane in my opinion and I am trying to keep my html file for my homepage rather small. I had no problem importing this in DW with a transparent background (when I was using DW) but am using Komodo Edit as my HTML editor now as it didn't come with Production Premium that I just got.
    If you know the correct (newer) code, that would import an .swf with a transparency, that would be most be useful. If not I guess I'll just wait for someone to reply that does.
    I will try to extract the code from the CS4 HTML file and use that, but did already try it once and it didn't work. If all else fails, I'll just download a trial version of DW and/or Flash CS6 and see if I can figure out how I did it on a website I developed a couple years ago (that I lost the files from in a HD crash).
