What no of concurrent connections can each server serv?

Ok we're a startup and currently thinking about whether to use flash media streaming server or red5, or progressive streaming with lighttpd.
In order to make a decision I would like to know how many concurrent streams can flash media server server stream until one has to purchase another license. Do any of you guys have some numbers.
We will be streaming mp3 at low bit rates, service will be hosted within AWS EC2 (with whatever instances are available there). So if you can post some performance specs that would be great....
Oddly enough Adobe Sales does not even know the answer... I have heard rumors that high number of concurrent connections is not a really a feature that this product is developed towards.
Thanks for you answers.

I'd do some more research before commiting to EC2/S3 at all. I'd also confirm that comment about Wowza streaming from S3... I've never worked with it, but if you're streaming, chances are S3 is just storage, and you're actually streaming from EC2 (I don't think you can run an application on S3... but maybe I'm wrong there)
The trouble is, regardless of the software, you're still in competition for bandwidth. There's only so much capacity at the network interface of each shared server, and if you happen to land on a busy server, you may find there isn't enough to go around. For stateless applications like HTTP request/response, that's fine, but for apps that require statefull client/server connections, bandwidth and latency issues can prove catastrophic.
The biggest problem I have with running a streaming server on EC2 (virtualization issues aside), is that they won't disclose hardware or network specs. So, while you can be sure you'll have the memory and processor allocation, it's a crapshoot when it comes to disk time and bandwidth, as you have no real idea how many other instances you're sharing a server with, or what those other instances are doing in terms of bandwidth and disk usage.
While I don't know any of the specs on the cloudfront service, I suspect those servers are load balanced in such a way that bandwidth is accounted for. In the general population EC2 servers, that's not the case.
My advice... really research this before you make your deployment decisions. I've come to find that while scaling out is a bit more challenging, dedicated hardware and bandwidth isn't all that much more expensive than EC2, and when you go dedicated, you can actually count on your resources being available to you.

  • What is an "active connection" to the FMS server?

    Hi,
I am wondering exactly what are considered "active connections" to an FMS server?
Is it only the RTMP/RTMFP NetConnections, or do NetStreams also count?
    Thanks

Only netConnections. You can't connect a netstream without a netconnection so they don't count on the connection count number.

  • How many concurrent connections that an ACS server version 4.2 latest patch can handle?

I have about 50 routers and layer-3 switches that autheticate via tacacs+.  The AAA server used to be on a Linux machine running open-source tacacs+ built by me.  I have a perl script that will log into all 50 devices at the same time to collect statistics.  This script is multi-threaded.  Everything is working fine so far.
I recently out-sourced the AAA function to a 3rd party company, not by my choice.  The 3rd party uses Cisco ACS version 4.2 with the latest patch running on Windows 2003 Enterprise Server with 16GB RAM and quad processors with quad-cores, IBM x3650-M2 hardware. The connectivity between the 3rd party and my company is through a DS-3 connection.  Maximum bandwidth over this DS-3 connection is less than 10Mbps at most.
I noticed that for the past 3 months I have multiple failures with this perl script due to authentication failure with the ACS server.  If I just run the script again a few routers/switches, there are no issues; however, whenever I started the script to log into 50 devices all at the same time, it will fail.  If I made the configuration on all routers/switches to point back to the old open-source tacacs+ server, the issue goes away.  The minute I switched back to the
new ACS server, the issue came back.  If I modified the script to hit one device at a time, it works fine.  I think it is the ACS server can not handle a lot
of AAA requests at the same time.
Does anyone know how many concurrent connections that an ACS 4.2, with latest patches on Windows 2003 Enterprise Server with lot of memory and CPU power, can handle?  I can't seem to find this anywhere on Cisco website.
    Thanks in advance.

No, Im not saying ACS cannot cope.
Concurrency and latency are very different things. ACS CSTacacs can handle many 100s of simple authentications/authorisations per second with users in the internal database. If 1000s of devices all send traffic in the same instant it would take some seconds to work through the backlog of traffic.
Also, worth considering that a limited number of tasks within ACS (or threads) can actually handle a much greater number of "logins" because they are generally multi-message allowing ACS to keep lots of plates spinning.
If users are in an external databases the latency (per authentication) can increase depending on where the users are (eg Windows AD) and if bad enough can have a serious effect on the overall authentication rate. At which point customers normally turn to load balancing.
If your device timeouts are 20 seconds (totally reasonable) I suggest the issue is more likely to be something else... a bug, perhaps specific to v4.2?

  • How many concurrent connections can ACS handle at once?

    Hi Experts,
Could you please let me know how many concurrent connections ACS can handle at once?
Is there any limitation on it?
Our ACS version is 4.0 (1) build 27.
Thanks in advance for your help and have a nice day!
    Regards,
    Gabor

It depends on many other factors but as far as I know ACS can handle upto 40 Auth request per second*

  • What's a maximal connections can be created?

I have to create several connections to DB2 using JDBC, in order that the pararrel executing statements don't collide with each other.
At moment I have 10 connections, hope to know is there any constraints on the number of connections? Will the too many connection result in performance problem?
    Thanks a lot.

    1. It's configurable at the database.
    2. Java does not limit you.
    3. Use a connection pool.

  • Exchange liscences, per mailbox or per concurrent connections

can anyone confirm, ideally with evidence via a microsoft link, as to whether exchange 2010 server client access liscences are per user, or per mailbox, i.e. if you have 300 mailboxes, you need 300 cals, whereas if you only have 150 concurrent connections
to the mailbox server at any one time, you only need 150 cals.
Also if its per mailbox, what are the rules on ex employee mailboxes, that are sat on the mailbox server, but not being actively accessed. Do they still require a CAL, or can they be flagged as disconnected or something?

    Hi,
A user with multiple mailboxes requires only one CAL. In contrast, if multiple users access the same mailbox, each user needs his or her own CAL, unless the user is accessing that mailbox from a single device licensed with a Device CAL.
A better explanation is provided here:

  • How many concurrent requests can WAS support?

    Hi all,
I want to know what is the maximum number of concurrent users/requests that can WAS6.4(latest pack) support? We are looking at around 40,000 concurrent users.. Is this feasible? If yes what is the max possible?
    Regards,
    Harsh
PS: Would appreciate a prompt response:)

    Hi Harsh,
I was just reading those notes that Alexander found as well and I would have to agree with him the that webdispatcher could handle the 10,000. However you have to remember that if you are running a BSP or other application located on a WAS server you have the constraints there as well.
Now I've just done some load testing with some stress tools.
500 concurrent connections on a Linux server dual processor 4 GB RAM and I started to see some major performance problems. Any higher and the system or at least the apps would have started to hang I think.
So with 40,000 connections even with loadbalancing and application instances you are going to need some major hadware to handle the connections.
Now back to your other questions.
The WAS and the R/3 are built on the BC level, which means  the basic connections are made at that level and effected by these parameters. With a 640 Java Stack only then you have the J2EE engine only in which case the BC level is basically not there at least not like the ABAP level.
Now if you have a single JSP page deployed on your J2EE and not making any RFC calls to your backend then you only have to worry about the dispatcher connections. However, from my understanding if you make those RFC calls then you have the connections of the backend to worry about as well.
Now if you can gives a bit more detail of what the connections (all these 40,000 are doing) then perhaps we can come up with some alternatives that will help out.
As for being intimidated, don't be, I'm learning this from searching as we go along as well

When you say double-sided, do you mean a memory stick which has chips on both sides; as in 8 chips on each side?
I bought the Kingston memory one stick of 128MB PC100/PC133 which has chips on one side.  I also bought the 256MB PC100/PC133 which has chips on both sides.
I currently have both these memory sticks in the MS 6119 and they appear to be working well.  I am running Prime95 torture test just to make sure everything is working as it should be.
Currently I have the following memory in the MS 6119:
Bank 0 - the original PC100 128MB stick which has 8 chips on each side.
    Bank 1 - the Kingston (KVR133Q/128R) PC100/PC133 128MB with 8 chips on one side.
Bank 2 - the kingston (KVR 133Q/256R) PC100/PC133 256MB with 8 chips on both sides.
The total is, of course is 512MB - and appears to be working just fine.  Windows LOVES RAM  :D

  • Limit number of concurrent connection

is there a way for me to limit the number of concurrent
connections to the media server. my upload bandwitdh is about a meg
so having too many connections just kills the whole thing. i would
like to put a limit at 5 connections. is there a way to do
    this?

well i am only using flash media server to displaying videos
and just that. the reason i went with media server vs. progressive
was fullscreen method. since flash doesn't natively support
fullscreen you have to open another browser in fullscreen with
javascript. the problem with that is it start loading from
beginning so i decided to go server that way it only has to buffer
and get to the same point without having to load the whole video up
to that point. Now i want to limit number people that can be
watching the video. if i get more that 5 connection the whole thing
slows down. i am not too familiar with server based connections so
i don't know how to limit the number concurrent connections.

  • What is required to Exchange integration work - (Can't connect to Exchange Web Server)?

    Hi guys,
We have just 'beaten' our Lync installation until it decided to work with mobility, however the clients (IOS) complain that it "Can't connect to Exchange Web Server". Entirely possible its our own fault!
    My question is:
What exactly do I need to configure to make this work?
    DNS records,
    Firewall rules,
    etc.
    We are running:
    Exchange 2010 on-premise
    TMG 2010
    Cheers
    Dave
    Dave

    Hi Dave,
The Lync 2010 mobile client for iPhone and iPad has a Meeting tab that lists meetings for the day from the Exchange calendar.
The client uses simple Exchange Autodiscover processes to determine the location of the Exchange server of the user who is signed in. The SIP Uniform Resource Identifier (URI) of the user is used in the attempt to discover the Exchange Web Services (EWS) endpoint.
However, if the user’s SIP URI and email address are different, the Autodiscover process will fail, the Meeting tab will be blank, and Exchange Unified Messaging (UM) voicemail in the Phone tab will not sync.
For disjointed email and SIP URIs, the Lync 2010 mobile client for iPhone and iPad lets the user specify a different set of credentials for Exchange integration. For the Exchange Autodiscover process to work correctly, the necessary DNS records must be available.
To confirm that Autodiscover is working, use Microsoft Remote Connectivity Analzyer at http://www.testexchangeconnectivity.com (http://www.testexchangeconnectivity.com/)
In addition, please also refer to this document
