What's a good Digital Pen to record notes and annotate PDF files?

I want to buy a smart pen that is compatible with MBP Retina to edit my PDF files, record notes in lectures, basic writing and stuff. Something like the Wacom Intuos pen, but I am not sure if there is a better choice? Thanks

  • What is a good defragmenting software for the mac, and what is the price ranges if there are mutiple ones?

I have had my mac for about a 1 year 5 months, coming onto 6 months. And I want to keep it running in top shape, or as close as it can get. I Am just wondering what is are good softwares for defragmenting a Macbook and what are the price ranges, and what are the recommendations. Which would you rate from best to worst in other words.

First Mac OS X doesn't need defragged. If your harddrive is ~80% full heavy downloading could hurt disk performance but I'd say you're in the clear. If Apple considered defragging a necessity they would have included it into Disk Utility.

If the Mac use Lion (10.7) you can use Airdrop for that.
With Mac's not using Lion you may set up a computer to computer (ad hoc) connection.

  • In digital editions how to you access the pdf file on your computer - I want to read in acrobat

in digital editions how to you access the pdf file on your computer - I want to read in acrobat as digital editions too hard to read.@@

    On Mac, try looking in:
    /Users/dug.geo/Documents/Digital Editions
On Windows, look for "Digital Editions" in "My Documents". If it's not there, look one level above "My Documents".
If you know the filename of the PDF, you could also try doing a file system search for it.

  • Digital signature from Topaz not appearing in PDF

    Hi,
I've created some PDFs in Acrobat Pro XI but I'm having problems attaching a digital signature using a Topaz signature pad.
The user is using Acrobat X (not Reader).
They are able to draw the signature box on the PDF and they can create the signature using the Topaz signature pad but then the signature doesn't get applied to the PDF (it just leaves the signature box blank).
I've checked the security settings on the PDF and everything is set to Allowed including Signing.
I've also tried the forms in Acrobat Reader (after enabling the Extended Reader options) with the same results.
Not sure what the problem is.  The user can sign other PDFs (that I didn't create) using the Topaz signature pad.
    Thanks for any help!

    Hi Sebastian,
We've had the same issue and found no solution for this. There just isn't a way to add an image to a by SAP generated PDF file. The only thing that did work was adding the image to a report and adding the report to the web template. In that case the image is printed but on a seperate page.
    Kind regards,
    Alex

  • What are the best practices for average size of an Adobe PDF file on a Web Server to be downloaded?

We know at a certain point, an extremely large file can be slow in downloading/accessing from a web site, and lessens the end-user's experience.  How large is too large? What is a good average or suggested size for Adobe PDF files in general?
    Thank you for any guidance.

I'm sure it varies depending on one's opinion but we have a policy that they should be under 1- 1.5MB. This isn't always posible of course. Our PDF's are mostly informational and contain little or no graphics.
I would say that it greatly depends on the PDF. If you get up over that size, you should do your best to optimize it for your users. Sometimes you can only do so much.

  • How Do I Digitally Sign Daily Progress Notes on Same .pdf?

    Friday, August 7, 2009

    Hello Everyone.
I'm a physician, and I am in the position of writing notes that may be introduced into evidence later. I really would like to avoid going to court & litigation, but it seems that I may be headed in that area. I usually keep progress notes of any kind; on house projects, vacations, etc. on one MS Word file and simply update the next entry with a new date and time header like you see at the top of this entry.
For the first time, I find that I must apply a digital signature and secure the notes and show that they were written on the date and at the time specified. And, most of all, I must show proof that the notes were not altered later.
There are many vendors, I understand, who provide digital signatures for Adobe Acrobat Pro v9 for Intel Macintosh. Who is the best?
Also, is it possible to keep a running journal and sign each day's entry? Or does each day require a separate document? Will I end up with 20-30 separate signed .pdf documents at the end of this?
    Thanks to all in advance.

What is this type of signature called?  I understand it's called a  "class 3" type certificate.
It's not a type of "signature", but a class of digital ID. A "signature" is really shorthand for "electronic digital signature". What a signature really is a pair of cryptographic operations over a given set of data, and in this case the data is just a bunch of bytes in a computer file. One of those operation I'm referring to requires the use of a digital ID, or in the case of creating the signature, specifically the use of the private key portion of a digital ID. The subsequent validation of the signature requires the public key portion of the digital ID. When these keys are generated, they have a symbiotic relationship. By that I mean what one key locks,  only the its corresponding other key can unlock. When you lock something with the private key (which is how a signature gets created), only the corresponding public key can unlock the encrypted data (this is the basis of signature verification). Conversely, if you lock something with the public key (this is the basis of certificate security in Acrobat) only the corresponding private key can unlock it. In the computer world, you can sign any blob of electronic data and it's always the same underlying principle. You can sign e-mail, you can sign Word docs and lots of other things (but most importantly, PDF files because that's what keeps me employed ).
Back to the digital IDs. A digital ID is really comprised of three things. The public key, the corresponding private key, and a set of certificate attributes and extensions that are for the most part plain text. These attributes and extensions that I speak about are the data that defines who the digital ID was issued to (aka the Subject), who issued the digital ID (the Issuer), the validity period, key usage, constraints, serial number, etc. The Certificate Authority (CA) is a company or governmental organization that operates under a set of legal guidelines (lawyers salivate here). There is no electronic magic here, just a bunch of documents. When they issue a digital ID they do it under the auspices of a Certificate Policy (CP) which in turn is enforced by a document called the Certificate Practice Statement (CPS). The CPS details the process by which they (the CA) may issue a digital ID and the rights and responsibilities that the recipient must adhere to. For instance, if you lose the private key (e.g. it was on a laptop that got stolen) you would be obligated to report this to the CA so they could revoke the digital ID. One of the things the CP defines is the assurance level that the CA will go through prior to issuing a digital ID. A high assurance level would require that they (the CA) get proof of ID before issuing you a digital ID, and that you would also agree to the terms of the contract. A low assurance level CA will issue a digital ID without requiring proof of ID. Another way that high assurance CAs work is they issue the digital ID on hardware device (a USB token or a smart card). This is know as two factor identification because it requires something you have (the device) and something you know (the PIN or password).
They key here (no pun intended) is to check with the CA and find out which program they offer that guarentees non-repudiation. If the files will need to be routinly opened on computers other than yours  I would recomend getting a digital ID that chains to the Adobe Root CA, but if the file is going to live on your machine unless extrodinary circumstances arise you could get by with any high assurance digital ID.

  • I've installed Adobe Reader twice and it still will not read a PDF file. What's up?

I've installed Adober Reader twice now and it still will not read a PDF. What's up?

I have the same problem. Adobe Reader worked fine until the last few days. I run Windows 7 and all I get is a small black cross in the top left corner of the screen. I can open downloaded pdf files, but not anything new from the internet.
I uninstalled and reinstalled the program and have run every type of scan I know of without any change.
This seems to be a common and recent problem, so I would like to know what's being done about it.

  • Does anyone know of a good digital asset management software solution for cataloging InDesign files?

    Hi all,
I am coming to this forum with this question because this amazing community of design professionals has helped me SO MUCH over the past few years...so I come to you for help once again as I search for a digital asset management solution that will also catalog InDesign files. I first used to use Canto Cumulus many years back, and then used Portfolio Standalone but both of those had their issues and are now discontinued. I am now looking for something else. It is for my small business and needs to handle all of my InDesign files and all associated artwork (I have a HUGE library of files....this also includes all of my image files, pdfs, etc.).
Extensis Portfolio Server is just WAY overkill and WAY too expensive for what I need. Also, the cheapest option (which is $1,999) only handles "thousands of files" whereas I have tens of thousands. I am also not interested in storing my "asset catalog" within the cloud...I just want it stored locally.
Please please can someone help point me in the right direction? I have been scratching my head searching for something...there is SO MUCH out there...the majority of which won't properly handle InDesign files as well, which is a NECESSITY.
Thank you so much as always,
    Christine

Purple_Jim, for some reason I just lost my new reply, so am writing again:)
I just checked out the program and one CAN easily update the database when changes are made to the volume(s) as files are added/removed/renamed/moved, etc. This is GREAT!! I am busy trying it out and it is WONDERFUL and EXACTLY what I need! And it is SO SPEEDY too...I LOVE it!
I just had to contact their support tho' as it doesn't seem to want to add in all of the images. It APPEARS to be adding them but not all of the folders are showing up. If I can get this issue sorted out then this program would be IDEAL:) It's great to know that you haven't had any issues:) That gives me hope as this program looks PERFECT!!
Thank you so so much for letting me know about it:)
    **UPDATE**
In CASE you can shed any light on my issue...
I just did some more testing and it seems that the problem occurs if/after I hit “STOP” when the volume is being scanned. Once I try to update the volume after that so that I can continue adding images, then it seems that nothing is added to the directory in Tri_CATALOG after the point when I chose to hit “STOP”.
It does not seem to be cataloging everything:( I just tried adding a new volume but it appears to have stopped adding images to the database even tho’ it SEEMS as if new items are still being added in the “Scan Volume window”.
Here is an example: The image below labeled “469-00625” appears to have been added to the “Clients/Ascot Supply Corp./Buyer’s Guide/2014 Buyer’s Guide/Archive/z_buyer’s guide image library_jpg/06_valve hardware/JPEG” folder but when I do a search for the image it cannot be located, and this folder also does not appear in the catalog directory (second screenshot below). No matter how many times I try to update the volume, the number of images for the “Clients” folder below remains at 811 pictures (as if it has stopped scanning, even tho’ new ones are still being added) and I am not able to add anything else. The Tri_CATALOG database appears to have stopped adding images after the “2011 Buyer’s Guide” folder below even tho’ there are still several new folders still need to be added….see third screenshot for ACTUAL directory on the volume.
From Tri_CATALOG: (Won’t add anything else below “2011 Buyer’s Guide"
Screenshot of ACTUAL directory from volume I am trying to scan into Tri_CATALOG:

  • What's a good LCD display for graphics arts and print production needs?

    Hi all,
It's true that the good ol CRT displays in the past were the best. They have the Trinitron tube and had clearity. I'm looking to purchase an LCD monitor that'll come close to a Sony CRT monitor and can handle my graphics art projects. Any thoughts and direction is appreciated.
    Thanks
    Web dude

CRTs are dead. Please just let them die...
Funny you should say that. I just bought a brand new Philips 22" CRT (for AU$260). I decided to take that path for another few years after looking at the Cinema displays (23" and 30") and noticing severe discolouration at shallow viewing angles (like when you sit closely in front of the monitor to compare three photos side-by-side). Interestingly, the 24" iMac screen doesn't have this problem.
I can't afford or justify the exquisite Eizo LCD screens, so I got the CRT (the best Philips ever made) and couldn't be happier. I've got plenty of space on my corner desk, btw.
    Cheers
    Steffen.
