What's a safe DVD ripper to make copy of personal DVD movie and then make a copy to another blank DVD?

The easiest way is to use Disk Utility to create a disk image of the DVD; you can then burn that to a blank DVD (and indeed play it using the DVD player).
Insert your DVD. Open Disk Utility and select it in the sidebar (the disk itself, not the drive it's in.) Click 'New Image' in the toolbar.
In the dialog box which opens set 'Image Format' to 'DVD/CD Master' and 'Encryption' to 'none'. This will make an exact copy without re-compressing.
Obviously this will not work on a commercially issued DVD, only on ones you make yourself or which are not DRM protected.

Instead of Share to Media Browser, what happens if you try Share Menu > Export Movie... (choose Large size) and save it to the Desktop?
If that fails try Share Menu > Export using QuickTime...
Then pick Movie to QuickTime Movie, then click on Options... which is just to the right of Export
Under the Video section click on Settings...
Then in the pulldown menu at the top, titled Compression Type: Choose Apple Intermediate Codec. Then click OK. And click OK again, and save it to the desktop. Once the .mov file is created, you can import that into iDVD and most likely it will work in Wondershare Creator if you prefer to use that instead.

Once you are in Recovery Mode, it's too late to do any backup. I am afraid you are going to lose your data.

Ah, yes- that is an ultra high DPI (dots per inch) display. This is a known issue in Flash Player, which Adobe is working on fixing.

Copying a personal DVD?

I've been given a DVD burned by my friend using DVDSP, and I'm wondering how, exactly, to make a copy for myself...?
I've copied the video and audio ts files from the DVD onto my desktop (about 60mb)... but now what? I've tried copying those folders onto another DVD and buning it, but the resulting DVD didn't play. I've also tried making an image and burning that from DiskUtility, but that DVD doesn't work either.
Again, it's not a protected DVD, and honestly I thought this would be easier.. help!??

Try this:
Duplicate a CD or DVD
1. Insert the DVD/CD;
2. Open Disk Utility, and select the DVD/CD from the left side list (select the DVD/CD icon on top);
3. from the DU File menu select New | Disk Image from Disk 1;
4. Choose to format the disk image as DVD/CD Master, name the disk image and click Save;
5. When the .cdr file is finished select it with mouse and press COMMAND-I to open the Get Info and check the box to lock the file;
6. Choose the .cdr file from the left side list, click Burn, and insert a new, blank DVD or CD.

When try to view a movie with a external reader it makes a weird noise at time and other times works fine I think I read somewhere theat you can only use thereader that came with your computer

That sounds like the drive is faulty. CD and DVD will have seperate heads, and burn and read will be different lasers in each. If it's still in warranty I'd exchange it.

What does err= -50 mean? It is occurring while downloading TV episodes and renting movies in iTunes.

Error code -50 is a generic code meaning there's some sort of communication difficulty.
There's many computers and connections between you and those movies, and between your network box and where they are on your computer.
You could try a few general things such as rebooting the computer, or trying the download later. Are these going to an external drive?

Is getting a dvd ripper the only way to get dvd content into my macbook to edit in imovie?

Presuming these DVDs are not commercially-released movies which are copy-protected, there are a number of utilities that can extract and convert the videos for use in editing applications. A couple of utilities that people have reported success with are DVDxDV, Cinematize, and MPEG Streamclip (MPEG Streamclip is freeware but requires that you have Apple's QuickTime MPEG2 Playback Component), and there are no doubt others.

Getting error 'could not locate ASM instance' when make copy of ASM VM

I make virtual machine of OEL 5.7 with oracle 10.2.0.1 and successfully configured ASM instance. I am using vmware workstation.
Now when I make copy of this virtual machine and startup database, then I get the below error:

So how can i solve this problem??
Note: I copy this VM using both copy/paste and clone option, but get this error both times.

It depends on how you actually created the disks, at the vm level, not the partitioning and formatting at the vm's OS level. I've used Tim's tutorials myself on some other ASM related projects, and he typically has you create the ASM disks as 'sharable', which would mean they would not copy necessarily copy with the vm. I've not played around the with variants much, but I'm pretty sure what you are seeing is a result of either the way the disk was created in the original vm, or the way you made the copy of the vm, or both.
Take a look at the machine properties of the two vms in the VMWorkstation control panel, looking at the HDD definitions. Compare and contrast.Hi EdStevens,

How do I import the DVD files into iMovie?

This tip will show you how to import your home movie on DVD into iMovie 11 for editing. It will not work on commercial, copy-protected DVDs. (Ripping commercial DVDs is against the Terms of Use of the Apple Discussions).
DVDs are encoded by iDVD into MPEG2, which iMovie cannot edit. So you need to convert the DVD into a codec that iMovie can edit. For highest quality, I recommend that you convert the DVD to Apple Intermediate Codec. There is a free tool called MPEG Streamclip that will do this. You will also need to install the Apple QuickTIme MPEG2 Playback Component.
Here are the details.
1) Download and install the Apple MPEG2 QuickTime Component ($20) - available online from Apple.
2) Download and install MPEG Streamclip from Squared 5 (free).
3) Start MPEG Streamclip
4) Insert your DVD into your Mac. If DVD Player or Front Row starts automatically, quit those.
5) Open a Finder window. Navigate to the DVD.
6) Drag the Video_TS folder from your DVD and drop it into MPEG Streamclip.
7) If MPEG Streamclip offers to fix timecode breaks, say yes.
8) Use FILE/EXPORT USING QUICKTIME to convert the files to Apple Intermediate Codec (or h.264 if you prefer)
9) Optional steps.
9a) Optional: You can deinterlace your footage in this step, if you like. If you don't know which is best, try a short clip both ways. I usually do not deinterlace.
9b) Optional: If you know the date and or time of the footage, name your file
clip-yyyy-mm-dd hh;mm;ss
(let mpeg streamclip provide the extension). This will provide metadata that iMovie will use to put the event in the right year and month.
9c) Optional: If you don't want to make one huge clip out of your DVD, you can make smaller clips by using MPEG Streamclip. Move the cursor to the "in" point of the clip, and press i. Move the cursor to the "Out" point of the clip, and press o. Then do steps 8 through 10 and repeat until you have done this for all clips you want.
10) Save the resulting file in a place where you can find it, like your Desktop.
11) Open iMovie.
12) In iMovie, choose FILE/IMPORT/Movies... and choose the file you saved in steps 8, 9, 10.
13) iMovie will generate thumbnails and you can edit.
