What's the proper order of installation/uninstallation for upgrading Elements 12 to 13

I'm upgrading to PE 13 specifically because it's been made Retina-capable.  Otherwise, I'd wait 3 versions between upgrades.  I'm in the peculiar position of having to upgrade PE 12 on a Mac that's just had it's apps and data/documents moved from another Mac on which PE 12 was originally installed.
In the past, especially when migrating from one computer to another, I've ended up with files and photos that need to be "reconnected" all the time, presumably because the catalog is using the file paths from the old computer when the path to those photos in the restored catalog on the new computer is different at some point.  With my last migration from one Mac to another, the catalog opened just fine.  I could see all my photos, but just about all of them from the last 12 years needed to be reconnected before I could backup the catalog.  It was impossible, so I went back to the prior computer to make the backup I'll use for PE 13. I'd really like to avoid everything being "disconnected" this time.
My question is how to upgrade.  I made a backup of the PE 12 catalog, and I'll open that in PS 13.  But should I UNinstall PE12 before I install PE 13 or after I install PE13?
Should I direct PE 13 to place its catalog in the same folder that PE12 used or a different one?  If the same, should I delete that catalog folder and its contents to allow PE 13 to make its own catalog folder?
When the program is restoring from the PE 12 backup and asks if I want to maintain the same directory structure as the catalog had, what's the best option???
I think that anyone using PE for several years will have had to migrate from one computer to another a few times, so my problems probably aren't unique.  I'd sure appreciate tips on how to do it better.

OK, no further help needed, but I do have questions.  I still have no idea why I couldn't restore from a backup of a PE 12 catalog, but I could not.  I found that those backups did not contain a file named PSE12cat.db, but I still don't understand what was going wrong.
FINALLY, from the unconverted PE 12 catalog that was already on my new computer, but NOT in the location I wanted to use, I happened on a subfolder that did contain a .db file.  It did successfully convert then, and I'm back in business with my Retina-enabled (yay!!) PE 13.
I'm sure that that conversion was difficult because of extraneous folders that resulted from so many upgrades and computer migrations over the years.  That's why I wanted to start fresh and let PE 13 create its own folder structure which would be rational from here on.  I just couldn't find a way to do that, but perhaps this current Catalog actually is unencumbered by bad path names for the individual files because it did create a successful backup, albeit it very, very slowly compared to the rate at which PE 12 and prior versions created backup.  But this backup, also, contains no .db file.
1 -- Why wouldn't PE 13 convert the Catalog backups from PE 12
2 -- Why would PE 13 claim that backups were "not valid" when PE 12 validated the Catalogs and reported successful completion of its Catalog backup?

  • CDHDR date/time fields vs. changenr field - what's the proper order ?

    I have an application where I need to keep track of all the changes on sales orders.  Got it working pretty well, but in production it has the nasty habit of missing some changes ( it runs every 15 minutes and keeps track of the last date/time of an item it picked up ).  What's worse is that if I do a full run from scratch, the missing stuff appears.
    I think my algolrithim is flawed because of the missing things plus I found two entries who's entries look like the following (all in VERKBELEG) - yes, this is REAL data from my production system:
    changenr          udate     utime
    0004520883     2/27/2007     19:20:24
    0004522894     2/27/2007     19:16:31
    Apologies for the formatting - anyways, as you can see - which entry happened first?  Is the changenr field the authority on that or is the date/time fields ?  I have to think it's changenr because of the following:
    1 - changenr is part of the primary key - date and/or time is not
    2 - my program is missing changes
    What's even wierder is that the above two changes were made by the same person - and I have no idea which one they did first.
    bottom line - what determines order of changes ? - field changenr or date/time fields (which are udate and utime respectively).  I thought when I designed this the first time that it would been entry #2 above, but now I'm thinking it's entry #1.

    Tom;
    Thank you very much for the information - I did run transaction SNRO and I see on my dev box that it's buffered ( 10 numbers ).  This then leads to my next set of questions:
    1 - If you have multiple app servers and it's bufferered, where does it buffer ?
    2 - Are the change numbers still in order of the changes ( see #4 below ) ?
    3 - When a change number is buffered - does that mean the entire change is buffered or does that mean that only the number is buffered ?
    4 - If you have multiple app servers with multiple changes - do the changes appear in the database in order of the change numbers or out of order ?  Here's a simple example:
        change 1 - done by app server 1
        change 2 - done by app server 2
        change 3 - done by app server 1
        change 4 - done by app server 1
        change 5 - done by app server 2
    At any point, would I see any change number in the database which has a higher change number than one that doesn't yet exist in a commited form in the database ?  In order words, if I did the read just right, would I see changes 1,3,4 on one read and then 15 minutes later 1,2,3,4,5 ?  The reason I'm asking is because if you want to remember where you last left off, if a change number "appears" later and not in order, tracking the change numbers won't help either.

  • What's the deal with notes and screenshots for upgraded app versions?

    We uploaded a new version to replace our 1.1 version of an app in the store.
    There was some confusion today that still persists:
    (1) For a while, the link to our current version app became invalid and we lost like 2/3rds of our normal sales until the link became valid again. Anybody else ever see that happen? Very frustrating.
    (2) Right now, there are two app versions inside itunes connect - the current selling one and the upgraded version awaiting review. I know the old one disappears when the new version is approved and goes on sale. But what is confusing is that the new screenshots and notes for the new version are also displaying in the current app version on sale in the store! I went ahead and added an explanatory note to potential downloaders... but is this a bug or something? Or is that the way it has always worked?
    How do people here tend to handle the timing of new screenshots and descriptions when you add new features and want to show them off in your update app?
    Thanks,
    doug

    This has been discussed a number of times here already.
    The only items cached for an update release are the specific 'update/what's new in this version' notes.
    All other changes will be updated immediately (within a few hours).
    You have 2 choices:
    1. Post the changes with a note (i.e. this is the next version, awaiting apple approval) so users aren't ticked by downloading the latest actual version.
    2. As soon as your update is officially released (monitor it) change the text and images.

  • What is the proper way to change rowHeight? (possibly animate?)

    What is the proper way to change rowHeight for UITableView? I set tableView.rowHeight and do a [tableView reloadData]. Is this necessary? Also, is it possible to animate the height change? It is not a standard transition.

    Not a perfect solution for your animation question - but....
    in the function where you want to change the height
    WARNING PSUDO CODE
    //indexPath is the path for theCell you want to edit
    thePlaceThatYouStoreYourHeights[x] = aNewHeight;
    [tableView deleteRowsAtIndexPaths:[NSArray arrayWithObject:indexPath] withRowAnimation:UITableViewRowAnimationFade];
    [tableView insertRowsAtIndexPaths:[NSArray arrayWithObject:indexPath] withRowAnimation:UITableViewRowAnimationTop];
    and inside of - (CGFloat)tableView:(UITableView *)tableView heightForRowAtIndexPath (NSIndexPath *)indexPath
    return thePlaceThatYouStoreYourHeights[indexPath.row];
    Basic flow
    1. Store new desired height somewhere
    2. Remove the cell deleteRowsAtIndexPaths
    3. UITableView paints the animation for the "remove" transition **see note
    4. Re-add the cell insertRowsAtIndexPaths (which subsequently kicks of a call to heightForRowAtIndexPath before animating)
    5. UITableView paints the animation for the "add" transition
    You do NOT need to call reloadData to get this to work.
    **note: an enum such as UITableViewRowAnimationNone does not exist (it should but it doesnt seem to). the docs for InsertRowsAtIndexPaths say "A constant that either specifies the kind of animation to perform when inserting the cell or requests no animation." however there are only 5 items in the UITableViewRowAnimation enum and UITableViewRowAnimationFade resolves to 0 - so passing NO will actually get you fade. Nor will it take nil.
    Hope this helps shed some light.

  • I get an update server error message when i try to update my phone. I've uninstalled iTunes and all related software in the proper order and then reinstalled with security software disabled. no what?

    I could use some help. Apple support walked me through the uninstall and reinstall of all iTunes and Apple files in the proper order with my security software disabled. I still get the following message:
    "The iPhone software update server could not be contacted. Make sure your network settings are correct and your network connection is active, or try again later."
    Any ideas? I'm on a Dell i5 Core with Windows 7.

    Thanks.  I have followed all the instructions as recommended and nothing has worked so it looks like the restore/update may have been interrupted - would loss of internet connection do this?
    Yes it would, possibly even brick it.
    Have successfully connected my ipod nano with iTunes so looks like the device driver is working.
    Can I use my ipod nano USB connector to check?
    It is not much help to you, since the device that you need still not recognized.
    Anyway looks like I may have to swallow the loss of data.  Have set-up a call for tomorrow with Apple support so will wait until after this before doing the factory restore!
    Good luck, but if you expect miracle from that call good luck again.

  • What is the proper way to record line numbers in Master/Detail records?

    Guys and Gals,
    Been thinking about this for awhile, but thought it best to ask the people who really know what they are doing.
    What is the proper way to record & show line numbers in a Master / Detail record set?
    For example, take Master/Detail relationship Orders and OrderItems. Orders has a column Document_Number and OrderItems has Document_Number, Line_Number. Line_Number should contain the row number 1,2,3,4 ... etc. for each row in a document.
    Should I ...
    <ol><li>Add a sequence and a trigger in the database? The FusionOrderDemo does this, but then the sequence never "resets" and I've got row numbers that keep incrementing. So one document has rows 4,5,6 and the next document has 7,8,9 when they should both have 1,2,3.</li>
    <li>Programmatically take care of the row numbers? This seems like I'm asking for trouble. Anytime an insert or delete operation gets done, I'll have to iterate through rows and re-assign row numbers.</li>
    <li>Is there a way to assign row numbers in a table iterator (or data collection?) to an entity?</li></ol>
    Any suggestions would be appreciated. It's looking like #2 is my only option, but if anyone knows different I'd love the input.
    Will

    Thank you both guys.
    As John said, I believe I'm looking for a gap-free sequence per master record.
    The line number of the OrderItems table is the second half of the primary key. The first half of the primary key (DocumentNumber) is the foreign key to the Orders table.
    Think of it like line items on an order or invoice. For example, if you were talking to someone on the phone concerning an invoice, you might say, "The pricing for line item #3 is incorrect." In this case, it's good to have a common reference. Or imagine a Microsoft Excel spreadsheet with no row numbers displayed! You'd never get anywhere if you had to explain something over the phone.
    If this is tricky to perform, I take it using a sequence and trigger such as the Fusion Order Demo is the best way to approach the challenge for simplicity's sake?

  • What's the better order to install OEM + AS + DB

    Hi everbody.
    What's the better order to install on RHEL4 Update2:
    - Enterprise Manager Control Grid (10gR2)
    - Database (10gR2)
    - Application Server (10gR3)
    And about the $ORACLE_HOME?? How to? Each instalation have a separate $ORACLE_HOME??
    Tks!

    Rafael,
    Save the Grid Control as the last installation. The order of Database and Application Server doesn't matter, however I would personally install the database first.
    Please read all Installation Guides' before starting any installations, and follow all pre-requisites stated for RHEL4.
    The Installation Guide's states that all products must be installed in separate ORACLE_HOME. As a matter of fact, the Oracle Installer doesn't allow installing any of these products into an existing ORACLE_HOME.

  • What is the proper and best way to destroy a java.util.List or Array for GC

    Hi,
    If I have a java.util.List of objects lets say:
    List<File> files = new ArrayList();The List contains 1000 file objects. When my class finishes, is it enough to do
    files = null;to make GC able to release it from memory?
    Cause it seems like I can't do the following:
    for(int i = 0; i < extracted_files.size(); i++){
                extracted_files.get(i) = null;
    }Or should I use this one:
    files.clear()What is the proper and best way to do this in order to avoid memory leaks? How about normal Arrays like File[]?

    Thanks for the info!
    But what if the List is a class variable running in a Web Service for like months without terminating?You mean if the List variable is a member variable of a long-lived object? Then presumably the list needs to live as long as the object does. In the unlikely scenario that the object needs to live on but its list member variable does not, then yes, setting the member to null will be needed to make the list eligible for GC. But I highly doubt this is your situation, and if it is, you probably have a design flaw.
    And if the list is referenced only by a local variable, then, as I already said, when the method ends, the variable goes out of scope, and the List is eligible for GC.
    Now, a slightly different situation is when the List needs to live a long time, and at some point during its life, you're done using some object that it refers to. In that situation, simply remove the element from the list (or set the element to null if it's an array rather than a list), and then if it's not referenced anywhere else, it can be GCed.
    How about Arrays like File[]? Do I need to iterate through the array and null all the objects or is it enough to just null the Array?YOU. DON'T. NEED. TO. HELP. GC. You don't need to set the elements to null, and you most likely don't even need to set the array variable to null.
    Also note that only references can be null, not objects.

  • Unchecked conversion warning - What is the proper way to fix this?

    I've been trying to figure this out for awhile now, and I have not seen an example that will set me on the right track. Given the following code:
            public TreeSet<String> sort = new TreeSet<String>(CI_NE_Comparator);
            public static Comparator CI_NE_Comparator = new CaseInsensitiveNeverEqualsComparator();
            public static class CaseInsensitiveNeverEqualsComparator implements Comparator
              public int compare(Object o1, Object o2)
                   String s1 = (String) o1;
                   String s2 = (String) o2;
                   int compare = s1.trim().toLowerCase().compareTo(s2.trim().toLowerCase());
                   if (compare == 0)
                        return 1; // ensure like values are never deemed equal
                   return compare;
         }I'm getting a warning declaring the class variable sort:
    Type safety: The expression of type Comparator needs unchecked conversion to conform to Comparator <? super String>
    So just what is the proper method to make the Comparator conform to generics?
    ** Btw - if anyone knows of a better way to do that comparator, I'm all ears!

    Why don't you want like values to be deemed equal?
    What would be wrong with using
    String.CASE_INSENSITIVE_ORDER?The code you see above is a stripped down example. We have the need to present data records in alphabetical order to a user, and sometimes these records have the same dscr, but that doesn't necessarily mean it's a unique record. Because of the backing query, I can't rely on the order in which the records were received.
    I can't modify the queries. Also, I can't modify the 30 or so different types of data records, all having the common field dscr, so that I can write a better implementation. But, I can write a better comparator.
    This is all legacy code that I've been working with, so I have to make sure things work as they did before.

  • What is the proper way to publish standard proxies/services using PI?

    Hello experts,
    Iu2019m working on a Project where we have an ECC 6.0 and we need to publish some standard services to external third-party applications. We found that the functionality that these third-party applications need is accomplished by the service MaintenanceRequestCreateRequestConfirmation_In of component ESA ECC-SE 603. As we are centralizing all our interfaces in SAP Process Intregration I have installed the ESA ECC-SE 603 XI content in SAP PI. After the installation, in tr. SPROXY transaction of the ECC system I can see the proxy properly implemented and ready to be called. And now I have to configure the interface in Integration Directoy. What I wonder is whatu2019s the best practice to configure this in PI? As I can see in ESR the service category is Inbound but, if Iu2019m not wrong, I have to publish a Outbound service? What should I do? Copy the entire definition to my own Software Component and create my own Outbound service? What is the proper way to publish standard proxies/services using PI?
    Thank you in advance.

    Using the Page Items to Submit property on the report region, the Refresh action is all that should be needed. I created a copy of page 2 on page 3, removed the Set Value action, and it is working as expected. I don't have access to 4.2.1 to try it on that specific patch level, but I've been using Page Items to Submit with a Refresh DA since 4.2.0 with no problems.

    Most apps from the Mac App Store are simple drag & drop installation. DId FCPX or M5 just download to your Mac or was there an installer app involved? If they just donwloaded, then dragging them to backup media should be enough. If there was an installer, then you should backup the installer. But these apps aren't going to disappear from the Mac App Store in the short time that your Mac is in a repair shop. You can also download them again fromthe Purchased pane after you have signed into your account.

  • How can I use 2 Apple IDs in Itunes? I have 2 IOS Devices. They each have there own AppleID. What is the proper way to sync both of them to Itunes?

    How can I use 2 Apple IDs in Itunes? I have 2 IOS Devices. They each have there own AppleID. What is the proper way to sync both of them to Itunes? I wanted my teenager's AppleID to be different from mine so that she couldn't charge stuff to my AppleID, therefore I created me another one. Now when I go to Sync either device, it tells me that this IOS device can only be synced with one AppleID. Then I get a message to erase it, not going to do that, lol. If I logout as one ID and login as the other, will it still retain all synced information on the PC from the first IOS device? If I can just log in out of the AppleID, then I have no problem doing that as long as the synced apps, music, etc stays there for both. I am not trying to copy from one to the other, just want to make sure I have a backup for the UhOh times. If logging in and out on the same PC of multiple AppleIDs is acceptible then I need to be able to authorize the PC for both devices. Thanks for the help. I am new to the iOS world.

    "Method Three
    Create a separate iTunes library for each device. Note:It is important that you make a new iTunes Library file. Do not justmake a copy of your existing iTunes Library file. If iTunes is open,quit it.
    This one may work. I searched and searched on the website for something like this, I guess I just didn't search correctly, lol. I will give this a try later. My daughter is not be back for a few weekends, therefore I will have to try the Method 3 when she comes back for the weekend again. "
    I forgot to mention that she has a PC at her house that she also syncs to. Would this cause a problem. I am already getting that pop up saying that the iPod is synced to another library (even though she is signed in with her Apple ID to iTunes) and gives the pop up to Cancel, Erase & Sync, or Transfer Purchases. My question arose because she clicked on "Erase & Sync" by mistake when she plugged the iPod to her PC the first time. When the iPod was purchased and setup, it was synced to my PC first. When she went home, she hooked it up to her PC and then she erased it by accident. I was able to restore all the missing stuff yesterday using my PC. However, even after doing that it still told me the next time I hooked it up last night that the iPod was currently synced with a different library. Hopefully, you can help me understand all this. She wants to sync her iPod and also backup her iPod at both places. Both PCs have been authorised. Thanks

    Need to convert mini dvi to s video to run a school's Hatiachi ceiling mount projector. What is the proper adapter?

    Check the projector and see what kind of input is has, most have a VGA connector, so you would need a male to male VGA. You will also need the Mac mini dvi to male VGA (of course).
    Some of the older projetors have a component in only, which is the red,yellow,green, RCA connectors, which are avaialable. (Usually the are fairy short, 5 ft or so,  so you would need to get a VGA with yhe mini DVI to VGA, and a component (the one with the 3 RCA's) you will probaly have to get a Female to Female VGA adapter to connect te VGA to the component.
    And finaally if that weren't enough, the really old projectors have only a composite input. All I can say about that is "the hunt is on"
    Best of luck

  • What is the proper way to close all open sessions of a NI PXI-4110 for a given Device alias?

    I've found that, when programming the NI PXI-4110 that, if a the VI "niDCPower Initialize With Channels VI" (NI-DCPower pallette) is called with a device
    alias that all ready has one or more sessions open (due to an abort or other programming error) a device reference results from the reference out that has a (*) where "*" is post-fixed to the device reference where and is an integer starting that increments with each initialize call. In my clean up, I would like to close all open sessions. For example, let's said the device alias is "NIPower_1" in NI Max, and there are 5 open sessions; NIPower_1, NIPower_1 (1), NIPower_1 (2), NIPower_1 (3), and NIPower_1 (4). A simple initialize or reset (using niDCPower Initialize With Channels VI, or, niDCPower Initialize With Channels VI, etc.) What is the proper way to close all open sessions?
    Thanks in advance. Been struggleing with this for days!

    When you Initialize a session to a device that already has a session open, NI-DCPower closes the previous session and returns a new one. You can verify this very easily: try to use the first session after the second session was opened.
    Unfortunately, there is a small leak and that is what you encountered: the previous session remains registered with LabVIEW, since we unregister inside the Close VI and this was never called. So the name of the session still shows in the control like you noted: NIPower_1, NIPower_1 (1), NIPower_1 (2), NIPower_1 (3), and NIPower_1 (4), etc.
    There may be a way to iterate over the registered sessions, but I couldn't find it. However, you can unregister them by calling "IVI Delete Session". Look for it inside "niDCPower Close.vi". If you don't have the list of open sessions, but you have the device name, then you can just append (1), (2) and so forth and call "IVI Delete Session" in a loop. There's no problem calling it on sessions that were never added.
    However - I consider all this a hack. What you should do is write code that does not leak sessions. Anything you open, you should close. If you find yourself in a situation where there are a lot of leaked sessions during development, relaunching LabVIEW will clear it out. If relaunching LabVIEW is too much of an annoyance, then write a VI that does what I described above and run it when needed. You can even make it "smarter" by getting the names of all the NI-DCPower devices in your system using the System Configuration or niModInst APIs.
    Hope this helps.

    UPDATE: This behavior (to an extent) still happens when "Repeat Album" is off. Instead of an infinite loop, it goes through all the tracks on the album (unsuccessfully) and kicks me out to the Album overview screen. Going back to list of Albums and tapping the Album again brings up "No Content: You can download music from the iTunes Store" but that screen immediately kicks me back to list of Albums.
    So I am just even more confused now.
