What to do - service center broke MBA and refuses to repair

I brought in a ~1.5 year old MBA (outside of warranty) into an authorized service center for replacement of the hinge. I originally was under the impression that I would be paying out of pocket for this, and needed the repair done in a timely manor, which is the reason I brought it to this service center and not an Apple location. I was told the issue was a known defect and that the hinge would be replaced free of charge. A left the computer overnight and had the computer was available for pickup the next day. I brought the laptop home, turned it on, and noticed there was no sound. While the computer would play the boot chime, it thought there was constantly a headphone plugged in, and would not play any sound using built in speaker (headphones did work).
I brought the computer back and explained the issue to them. I explicitly asked the tech if there is anything I could have done to have caused this issue, to which he replied that it was "definitely entirely his fault." They replaced a few minor parts over the course of a week and a half (sound board, connectors, etc) but the problem persisted. After a lengthy wait (they had to talk to Apple tech) they said that I would be forced to send the computer into Apple and have them complete the work. The price would most likely run $300, of which I would be responsible for. They claimed that the issue was "most likely not caused" by them.
Aside from taking them to court, what are my other options? I have reinstalled the OS (both from original DVD and Snow Leopard disk) with no change in problem. I do use sound quite often, and not having it available to use is beginning to become a relatively major issue.

Please please call Apple care. Since you took the computer in for service at an Apple Authorized Repair center and they fixed it for free which means Apple paid for it. This also Qualifies you for 90 day extension on the warranty. Trust me I've been through this before also. If you don't like the repair centers way of doing business tell Apple you want to send it in to them for the repair they will send you a box and you send it off to the. This repair should not cost you anything and should be covered under the 90 day extension. You may have to put up a fight but remember you left a repair shop with one problem fixed when they caused another.

    You can only have the phone serviced in the country where it was originally sold. The E.U. is considered 'one country' for warranty and service purposes.
    Take the phone back to the country where it originated, or send it to someone you know there to take it in for service.

    What is the CentOS /etc/services entry for the Oracle Enterprise Manager Database Control for the RMI_PORT of 5510 and the JMS_PORT of 5520 so as to ensure EM "owns" the ports?
    The emca was successful and the corresponding rmi.xml and jms.xml config files have the correct ports, but they did not register within the /etc/services file while the DBCONSOLE_HTTP port of 1158 and AGENT_PORT of 3938 have the correct entries of:
    dbconsole-oms 1158/tcp # Oracle dbConsole Agent
    dbconsole-oms 1158/udp # Oracle dbConsole Agent
    dbcontrol_agent 3938/tcp # Oracle dbControl Agent po
    dbcontrol_agent 3938/udp # Oracel dbControl Agent po
    So, while EM works just fine, the RMI_PORT and JMS_PORT values need to be reserved with the correct /etc/services entries.

  • I have difficulty charging my iphone 5. The nearest service center said that there are missing pins in my lightning connector.

    My phone is still under warranty but the service center said that it is voided due to the missing pins inside the lightning connector.  What do i do with this?     Well, your service is handled by an Authorized Apple Service Center. If they refuse to handle the claim, that is well within their rights. Apple as well could void a claim under the same circumstances. I'm not saying that you did or did not modify the device, but you could try and talk to a supervisor there and make another request.     try a reset of iPhone and then a restore,best, as new and if it then functions correctly try restoring with your backup

    My Mac book pro which is just one and half years old got dead suddenly. My Protection plan got over and the local authorised service center says the logic board is dead and it has to be replaced. The cost for the same which they are telling is Rs.47500 and another Rs.30000 for the display. Its really sad that a new Mac book pro is costing only Rs65000 in the Indian Market.     The dents are extremely minor since my ipod had had a light fall. Is it possible to get the replacement. The service center have refused to replace the model, and they have also terminated the product care without even my permission. Need help with this matter. Have had 3 ipod touch before this one. All with the same audiojack problem. Highly dissatisffied with the product quality and durabilty.

    Agreed, but the dents are extremely minor, its not like the entire case is cracked and its coming off, or the screens broken. It's just a slight chip. And ispite it being so minor they have declined the replacement.

    if you have recovery disks, use it instead of shipping back to lenovo.

    If you live in a big city, then I would recommend an independent computer store that fixes Macs. There are many mom and pop computer stores that fix your computer. Just Google it.

  • I have a MBP with service center for last 21 days. The issue is device doesn't boot up. They are replacing part by part logic board, hard disk, wires and still they need more time. No confidence over there service wing. How to get MBP replacement?

    I submitted my MBP 2012 model to service center on
    1. August 12: They reinstalled OS. Took it back on 13th evening
    2. August 14: They did some hardware check and reinstalled OS. Took it back on 20th evening
    3. August 21: Stil with service center, they are investigating
    What service they are providing.
    Very bad experience with apple.

    After august 21:
    They changed logic borad and told me that HDD is fine.
    After few days I called back they told me HDD is faulty.
    I do not know rather they do not know what is the issue.
    Thats why I want complete replacement of MBP.
    Then they say about policies.
    I want to get MBP replaced, as the warranty has expired on 28th.
    I do not know whether they can resolve issue or not
    The super advisors from apple team are also co-ordinating still it is taking too long.
    So my question is I need a repacement, How to get it?
