What to do when there is no "Post new topic" displayed?

I have encountered the most odd thing. I am trying to get into the Aperture discussion group which I have done many times before but for some reason now, there is no "Post new topic" when I log on. Every other discussion group I try has this message. Other people are still posting on Aperture.
So I obviously can't post my question there because I can't get in!
Any ideas as to what is wrong?
Thanks, John

John,
I hate to ask/suggest but are you visiting the particular Aperture forum you wish to post in or just the main Aperture page.
You must select a sub forum there to see a Post a New Topic link.
Sorry if that is not the problem but I have seen others make this mistake in other forums and just wanted to suggest in case that is the error.
best,
littleshoulders [:-)
edit: The two sub forums for Aperture are: Aperture Installation, Setup and General Usage and Aperture Book Printing and Design

Does anyone know what to do when there is a white flashing light on the Apple TV

It means the update failed and your AppleTV can't start.
You need to restore by connecting to a computer running current iTunes via a USB to micro USB cable.
    See:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4367
Pay attention to differences in power connection depending on whether or not you have AppleTV2 or AppleTV 3.

I am changing from Word to Pages. I have created my custom template with all my styles etc and that is what comes up when I go for a New Document. Fine. How do I get it to use the same Custom Template when I use Pages to open a Word document?

The template is a document in itself, it is not applied to an existing document whether it is a Pages document or a Word document converted to a Pages document.
You would need to either copy and paste content, using existing styles, or apply the styles to the converted Word document.
You can Import the Styles from an existing document and those imported Styles can be used to override the current document's styles:
Menu > Format > Import Styles
The process is simplified if the styles use the same names, otherwise you will need to delete the style you don't want and replace it with the one that you do want when asked, then the substitution is pretty straightforward.

When there will be a new boot camp version with Windows 8.1 support? I a floor of year can't already update Windows 8 on the iMac! ! !

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
Boot Camp Support Software 5.0.5033 supports Windows 8.1 and can be used with that version. The Mid 2011 iMac is compatible with Windows 8, so you should not have any problem by installing Windows 8.

  • Please help me find "post new topic" link

I want to post an issue in the shuffle 1st generation forum but cannot find the "post new topic" link on the page.
I'm feelin' kinda stupid, and frustrated too!
obviously, I found the "post new topic" link for this forum, so I don't think it's a browser issue (firefox 1.5.0.10, windoze XP). also, I have signed in with my apple ID.
here's the link to the forum to which I want to post:

    Hi Ellsworth!
    Here is some additional information.
If you have a question about using Discussions, from this page Feedback about Discussions, click on Post New Topic.
If you have a Technical question about Apple Hardware, Programs, Services, Technology, Software, Applications, Products, etc, from this page Discussions - Forum Home, select an appropriate Category from one of the twelve divisions.
For example, under Mac OS X Related Software, choose the Category Mac OS X v10.4 Tiger.
On the page that opens, select a Forum, such as Installation & Setup, or Using Mac OS X Tiger.
Most Category pages, have numerous Forums within them.
But some may have only one, two, or three.
For example the Safari Category page has three choices listed under Forum / Category, but only one is a Forum: Safari Support forum.
On Forum pages, there is an option to Post New Topic.
Click here for all iPod Forums.
Click here for all iTunes Forums.
More info here How Is Discussions Content Organized.
It can be confusing, but explore the different areas, and you will acquire a better understanding of the hierarchy.
    Good Luck!

I am having trouble posting new topic in the UIX forum. I am getting error "You do not have permission to post in this forum". I am a registered user.
I found an FAQ for the same but it didnt solve my problem, as the link given in the FAQ (http://www.oracle.com/technology/membership/index.html) redirects me to my profile page.
I am already a member with Oracle AppsNet, Oracle Learning Network, OTN and Oracle.com

    Hi anitajean!
You are probably looking on a Category page, and not a Forum page.
If you have a question, or suggestion, about using Discussions, from this page Feedback about Discussions, click on Post New Topic.
This is the Forum where you just posted your issue.
If you have a Technical question about Apple Hardware, Programs, Services, Technology, Software, Applications, Products, etc, from this page Discussions - Forum Home, select an appropriate Category from one of the sixteen divisions.
For example, under Mac OS X Related Software, choose the Category Mac OS X v10.5 Leopard.
On the page that opens, select a Forum, such as Installation & Setup, orUsing Mac OS X Leopard.
Most Category pages, have numerous Forums within them.
But some may have only one, two, or three.
For example the Safari Category page has four choices listed under Forum / Category, but only two of them, are Forums:
    Safari For Windows
    Safari for Mac Support forum.
And the Apple Remote Desktop Category, has only one Apple Remote Desktop Forum.
On Forum pages, there is an option to Post New Topic.
Click here for all iPod Forums.
Click here for all iTunes Forums.

  • How to know when there will be something new.

I have a Powermac G4...and it's ok but kinda slow...not updated. In otherwords I would like a new computer (and an iPod). I'm thinking about a refurbished 20" imac intel core duo. But I don't want to get it and then realize something new just came out the next day. I know It's a method of sales, but it would be nice to know what's next like a new OS, prosessor, computer, ect. One other thing withthat is if there will be a new eMac. That would be tight.

Hi Delectric! And Welcome To Discussions!
It really doesn't matter when you buy a product, any product. There will always be something New & Improved, subsequently released!
As per the Apple Discussions Use Agreement, you will not find posters speculating about future Apple releases/upgrades.
    Quoted:
    "2. Submissions
-Search or browse for existing answers before you ask a question. Someone else may have asked your question — it may save you some time.
-Stay on topic. Apple's discussion forums are here to help people use Apple products and technologies more effectively. Unless otherwise noted, don't add Submissions about nontechnical topics, including:
-That Apple rumor you saw on another website.
-Discussions of Apple policies or procedures.
    -Speculations/rumors about unannounced products.
-The status of your 1973 MG Midget restoration.

  • Posting New Topics VERY unintuitive.

I want to post a simple question. I would think that posting a question would not require me having to search "how to post a question". It's VERY annoying that it's not obvious. When I click on a category there should be an obvious link on every page. Even the FAQ's and Help pages, while they make is sound simple, are misleading since a "Post a New Topic" link does NOT show up on every page. VERY, VERY frustrating. Less experienced users should not be made to feel like simpletons as these forums were initially designed for specifically for them. In this day and age it should not be that difficult to make things more intuitive.

I would think that posting a question would not require me having to search "how to post a question".
    I think that's true.
I also think that your larger point about the shortfall of intuitiveness of the navigation of AD must be at least partly true. Arguably, evidence to that is in the fact that this Feedback forum is inundated with people posting technical questions.
On the other hand, there is a very clear notice at the top of this forum explicitly requesting that technical issues not be posted here. Links to the main page and instructions about how to go about choosing the appropriate forum in which to post technical questions also appear at the top of this forum. These admonitions and instructions are repeatedly overlooked and/or ignored, however, and this leads me to believe that even if explicit instructions about how to locate an appropriate forum in which to ask a question were added to the top of the main page at Apple Discussions, they would also be overlooked or ignored by at least some people.
One might argue (and they have) that in addition to the suggestion that "+If you need help using Discussions, check out the Help & Terms of Use link in the sidebar to the right+," these or similar instructions should be added to the top of the main page, at minimum, and at the top of the list of forums on the category pages as well, to assure that people who are inexperienced in using this kind of site will be steered in the right direction. Others (including Apple) might disagree, pointing out that the vast majority of users who have ended up on the main page of Apple Discussions know what discussion boards are, have navigated to Apple's Discussions purposefully, and can intuit that the lists of hardware and software items on the main page +might at least be a starting point+ in their search for an appropriate place to begin looking for the place to post their questions.
When I click on a category there should be an obvious link on every page.
Of course, there are obvious links on category pages, but these links are to individual forums. It's rather like going to a restaurant: When we are seated at a restaurant, we are handed menus. In this sense, the Apple Discussions main page can be likened to a restaurant menu. In a restaurant menu, items are divided into various groups; the better the restaurant, the greater the number of categories of food items that are listed on the menu. For example, my favorite restaurant here in New York is an Italian place on Thompson Street with a fair sized menu, divided into categories, including +Antipasti E Salumi+, Primi, Secondi and +Piatti Del Giorno+; there is also a separate menu containing the categories, Formaggi, Dolci, +Caffe E Te+, and another containing +Vino Dolce Al Biccchiere/Bottiglie+, +Vino Liquoroso+, +Grappa e Acquavite e Brandy+, Amaro, and Sambuca. For the purpose of our analogy, let's just focus on the dinner menu:
At the top of the list of categories on the dinner menu is +Antipasti E Salumi+, under which are listed Verdura which includes various small vegetable dishes; Carne, which includes various small meat plates; Insalate, under which various salads are listed, and Pesce, under which are listed various small fish plates. A lot to choose from! How do we decide?
Well, we know it's not enough to tell our server that we want an antipasto (just as it's not enough to tell Apple Discussions' server that we have a question about our Apple product). We need to tell them which antipasto we want. There again, it's not enough to tell our server that we'd like a verdura (as it is not enough to click on the Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard link on the main page here); we need to be specific about which verdura we want (just like we need to choose a specific aspect of Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard about which to post a question) in order to be rewarded, which, in a restaurant, means we are able to enjoy our tasty vegetable plate, and, here in Apple Discussions, that we are able to find a 'Post a new topic' link.
In the end, as I have learned to navigate restaurant menus, I, and most users, have been able to intuit how to navigate the menus here at Apple Discussions without ever having read the Help pages. You can, too!
    Good luck!

  • Posting new topics

Other than here I've NEVER been able to figure out how to
post a new topic. How to I post a new topic in the quicktime forum? The little icon I clicked here to make this post doesn't exist over there.

The little icon I clicked here to make this post doesn't exist over there.
If you're logged in and you're not seeing the "Post a New Topic" link, then you're probably looking at a category page, rather than an actual forum page where you can post. A category page lists the forums within that category. Click on the relevant forum in that list and you'll be able to post there.
For example the iPod category page lists a large number of more specific iPod forums in which you can post, starting with "Using your Fifth Generation iPod" and "Connecting the Fifth Generation iPod to Windows" and on down the list from there.
If you're still not sure which kind of page you're on, look at the URL in your address bar. A category page will end with "categoryID=nnn" while a forum page will end with "forumID=nnn."

  • "Post new Topic" button only works once

Having posted once into the feedback forums, the link no longer does anything. Had to restart the app to post this!

So... you don't see the "Post a new topic" button?

  • What to do when there is lot of packets pending for processing in queue

    Hi,
In our application, we have service bus queue, one of the Web APIs (REST) picks the data from devices and puts into the Queue. The worker role picks the packets and process it.
To improve the speed of processing, what are the options available?
There are too many packets laying in the queue for hours.
    Please help!
    Thank you!

    Hi sir,
Please try to handle your queue message in parallel. Base on my experience, you can create a pool of threads process. Every thread could pick the queue message and handle it. After finished it, you can discard the message or do other actions.
For this idea, I think this post and thread will give you some epiphany.

  • What to do when there are no errors?

When starting Quicktime it says it is switching but nothing ever happens. There are no errors listed. What do I need to do?

The term "switching" refers to "transport protocols" (UDP or HTTP). Those two options are found in your QuickTime Control Panel.

  • Font woes: what to do when there's an alleged conflict

I keep getting error messages when I try to activate certain fonts--for the moment, it's Optima--from Extensis Suitcase. The message is that the type 1 font conflicts with a font in the System Fonts folder. It doesn't--there is no Optima in that folder.
    Suggestions?

The first thing to try would be to fire up the FontBook application. You can validate all or specific fonts. If you find a bad font you can then trash it, or re-install it if you can.
