What type of connector do I need from my Macbook Pro Retina laptop for sound out to audio speakers with regular audio input jacks?

I am wanting to use regular audio speakers with traditional audio input jacks to serve as output speakers on my Macbook Pro Retina display laptop. What type of cable would I need to connect?

I have been playing whole movies before from VLC without problems.
    Any Ideas?

Yes it's network issues or settings that cause these types of problems most of the time.

No eSATA to USB. Just a SATA/IDE to USB adapter. Google SATA/IDE to USB adapter and you will get tons of links to buy them. Most likely your local computer electronics store has them, although they might be more expensive buying locally than online.
I have several. You can get either USB 2, which what I recommend, or USB 3. USB is backward compatible so a USB 3 adapter will work on a USB 2 port and a USB 2 adapter will work on a USB 3 port. Backward compatible in both directions.
I suggest a USB 2 type because there have been some problems with certain USB 3 devices, the USB 3 interface used isn't all that good in those certain devices. USB 3 is still fairly new where as USB 2 has been around for over 10 years.

  • Extending my desktop across 2 (DVI) displays from 15" MacBook Pro Retina

Hi. I bought a new 15" MacBook Pro Retina a few days ago and am trying to connect 2 Dell displays with a view to extending my desktop across them both. At the Apple shop I was told I simply needed to buy 2 Thunderbolt to DVI converters (my 2 displays both have DVI out) and hook them up... Not true. If I try this my desktop only extended across 1 display. The other display isn't even picked up by my MacBook Pro.
So does anyone out there know how I connect 2 DVI displays to my MacBook Pro without buying a Matrox Dual Link? If I bought an HDMI to DVI converter cable and connected one display via the HDMI port, and the other display via the thunderbolt port, would this work?

May not be an upgrade issue ..
You have a fast processor. and 8GB of RAM is more than sufficient.  (The processor cannot be replaced)
Click your Apple menu  top left in your screen. From the drop down menu click About This Mac > More Info > Storage
Make sure there's at least 15% free disk space. Less can slow the system down.
If your Mac seems to running slower, try the suggestions here > Mac troubleshooting: What to do when your computer is too slow | Macworld
If you have not done so, especially with school files stored on the hard drive, make sure to back up your important data on a timely basis.  Help here >  Mac Basics: Time Machine
Not a good idea to post the serial number of your Mac on the net. I have asked the moderators to edit that information for you. It has nothing to do with upgrading.

  • Slow Wi-Fi Reconnect After Wake from Sleep (Macbook Pro Retina Mid 2012)

    Hello!
I'm not sure if anyone has experienced this problem, maybe someone out there can help.
The issue I'm having is with Wi-Fi taking a long time to reconnect after my Macbook Pro Retina wakes from sleep. Usually I need to go and reselet the network.
I've gone through some trouble shooting forums and have had no success. I've tried turning off Wi-Fi and turning it back on after a couple minutes and it turns on right away.
    Has anyone experienced this problem?

  • Bizarre 'processing' noise from within Macbook Pro retina 15"

    Hi all,
For the last few months I have been hearing noises that I can only describe as reminiscant of a Spectrum zx or commodore loading screen coming from within my laptop. It is not constant, but can last from minutes, to hours on sporadic occassions. The sound is fairly slight, but when working or generally browsing the internet in a quiet environment, the sound is unavoidable and somewhat annoying.
I have had odd noises coming from this laptop before. My right fan was faulty and it produced squeeking noises. An indepth Genius bar diagnostic testified the error and a replacement fan was fitted. But this noise is different. The hardware test shows no faults. I have attached a video to help aid my description.
I am still within my one year warranty, but, having mentioned earlier, I have already had replacement fans fitted (and the apple staff scratched my retina display so they ordered a new screen as well whilst it was in for repair). I have also noticed some dead pixels in the new screen.
Is there any suggestions as to what this sound could be? Would a Genius bar appointment be necessary and could I get another repair considering I've already had one?
Having said all this, I hardly use my MBP for anything substantial, literally, browsing the internet up to now and I really take care of this machine. The big projects I initially purchased the laptop for are still in development - so it hasnt even been put through its paces.
A bit gutted overall & I think I am going to have to purchase the extended Applecare.
    Any reply would be useful,
    Thanks all

  • Screen flashes when waking up from sleep, Macbook Pro Retina 13" early 2013

    Hey guys,
I have an issue with the wake up procedure on my new Macbook Pro Retina 13". This is how it looks: http://youtu.be/pBK8vRiVdX4
When my computer has been in sleep mode for a longer time (approximately 1-3 hours) it does this strange thing when I open the lid. It is black for a time and suddenly there is a blue flashing screen before it goes to the desktop. This process is about 10 seconds.
Does anyone know if there is a solution for this? Have you had the same problem? I called Apple support this morning and he told me to reset SMC and clear the PRAM, but the issue is still there.
Please let me know if you know something about this.
    Kindly,
    Mikael

i had the same problem too and i think i could isolate its cause. I tried a few things on my 13 inch retina macbook pro like switching off functions like ''put hard disk to sleep when possible'' but this wasnt a solution to the problem... after alot of playing around with my macbook, i realised that this flashing problem only occured when my macbook was scaled up to any resolution other than the native resolution... when i went back to the native resolution, the flashing stopped and my macbook started almost instantaneously after opening the screen... you should try it out... and tell me what you think...
think it is pretty annoying that we get this issue when scaled up to some other resolution and wish there is a solution somewhere online to solve this... but for now, i think it is quite an annoying bug but still not something i cant live with...
tell me what think about it:)

  • Can I send a fax from my Macbook Pro Retina OSx wirelessly?

I need to submit documents via fax for "security reasons" I do not own a fax machine nor do I have a telephone line. Yes I could go to the local Post Office and pay for them to be sent but if I can do with my new MacBook Pro I would prefer to do it that way.
Is there a a way to do this without download a program or signing up to a "Fax.com" webpage.
    Thanks

Use eFax to receive faxes. make sure you sign up for the free account and make sure you tell them your preference is to receive a fax are in TIFF format not in their fax program.
To send faxes for free use:
    http://www.gotfreefax.com/
    Very simple both are free.

Some fax services offer free send, some free recieve, but not both- The idea is to divide and conquer.

  • What is the best display resolution setting for Macbook Pro retina display for photography?

Display resolution settings are somewhat criptic. I want maximal resolution for editing photos. Which one should I choose?

Not sure what you mean by "attachment" -
The question was about a player/recorder, also known as a burner when used with a computer. Any burner will also function as a player with a computer (as in "read and write") - just attach the drive and insert a CD or DVD. iTunes will however, most likjely, attempt to immediately import the song - that is its default behavior. I have other audio software, so I can bypass iTunes as I don't care to use it. And this is what I am referring to:

  • What type of plan do I need from a carrier for BIS?

    Hey
I apologise for this question possibly being quite simple and annoying to answer - but I have searched through the BB site, the various carrier websites for carriers in Australia, and no one seems to be able to answer my question (and I've searched these forums - though not having much luck)
I want to get a BB Bold outright, and then go on a cheap plan with a carrier here that has included data (anywhere from 50mb to 1gb per month)
Will BIS work with this? If I have a data plan with my carrier, is that all I need? Or do I need my carrier to do something else?
From what I understand, I set up an account with Blackberry, who manage everything, as long as my phone can access the Internet all the time. My carrier doesn't need to get involved other than provide me with a data plan?
I'm just a bit confused as to what I need to get once I buy my BB, and what my carrier must do.
    Thanks
    Alex
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Right just having a BlackBerry Data Plan is all you need. Double check with the carrier though as they might have several BlackBerry Data Plans. Most plans come with Unlimited Data (emails, but sms messaging may be extra)

  • HT1449 Now that i have my iTunes backed up on iCloud and iCloud Match running, can I delete the music files from my MacBook Pro?  It is running out of hard drive space.

When I started this request in the Support section, I did not realize I was typing a subject into a header.  Sorry.
My MacBook Pro is nearly full and I would like to rely on iCloud for my music with the hope of freeing up space by deleting the music files I have accumulated on this machine.  Can I just delete the files in the iTunes folder or is there some special procedure?
Thanks in advance for your help on this.

  • Microsoft Remote Desktop fails connecting to a 4k Laptop from a MacBook Pro Retina Display

    Hi there
I'm struggling because I'm trying to use my MacBook Pro Retina display to connect to a Lenovo Laptop that has a higher resolution.
The RDC simple does not work and when it does, the scale is too big to do something and gets disconnected in minutes...
    Any hint?
    Thanks.

    Hi,
It seems that MBP retina has high PPI resolution so that when accessing with normal MRD it will display blur or stretch the screen. Might due to that reason it can disconnect the screen also. For this you can try to use URI scheme where you can manually add
the width and height for the screen and check result.
    You can check beneath article.

  • QuickTime need codec to play avi on MacBook Pro retinal display but not on other Mac's with Mountain Lion?

Why will avi play on all my Mac's with Mountain Lion but not on my Retinal Display 13" Macbook Pro? Quicktime players are the same, OS are the same plugins are the same and up to date. Get the missing Codec warning only on retinal display.

You don't say if your MacBook Pro is the new version that supports USB 3, if not the card reader will default to USB 2. The Ultra II is listed as 10Mb/s on old cards and 15MB/s on new cards, both within USB 2 specification. Extreme III are listed as 20MB/s old cards and 30MB/s new. These 30 MB/s maybe a bit too much for USB 2, not sure. see http://kb.sandisk.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/1111
If the Macbook Pro as USB 3 support it could be that it does not recognise the card reader as USB 3 and default to USB 2.
    See Apple URL http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5172?viewlocale=en_US&locale=en_US
    Bullet point 11 may help.
Of course the card reader could be faulty and not read the Extreme III cards unless you have verified it working in other situations.
    regards

  • Audio quality from mid 2012 macbook pro retina

I am trying to clarify what would be the best quality audio I can get from a Macbook Pro Retina mid 2012 (2.3 Ghz). Is the 3.5 mm jack capable of digital output (what spec) otherwise the HDMI digital audio must be a go. What spec does that offer please, and is it possible to input that into an external DAC somehow.
