When does capture/pump/replicat process do a checkpoint?

Dear Guru,
May someone help me to know when capture/pump/replicat process does a checkpoint? There are 2 things which made me confused.
- CHECKPOINTSECS parameter: There is no setting in the parameter file, that means it will be set by default (10s)
- One document says that checkpoints are based on transaction boundaries, that means checkpoint will happened by the end of each transaction
In my source db, there was a long running transaction lasting for 1 hour and already committed and written to the local trail files. Then the pump process have started to read the trail files to pump to target. My concern is when the capture/pump/replicat process do a checkpoint? 10s or 1 hour?
One thing is I often see the value of "Time since chkpt" in the output of "Info all" command is more than 10s. If they do a checkpoint every 10s, how could the value of "Time since chkpt" be more than 10s? I think that maybe the term "chkpt" of "Time since chkpt" is of database transaction, not of GoldenGate. However I'm not sure. It made me really confused.
Here is the output of "Info all" command:
Program Status Group Lag Time Since Chkpt
EXTRACT RUNNING PUMP6 00:17:07 00:04:29

CHECKPOINTSECS defines how often an extract makes its regular checkpoints. An extract will make a checkpoint every 10 seconds if this value is set to 10 irrespective of a transaction that is running for 1 hour. Extract also writes commit checkpoints when a transaction is committed.
In the example where your Pump is showing time since checkpoint as greater than 10 could have a problem at the network level or issues with the remote trail..
that is my observation as I had an extract that was being shown as RUNNING but time since last checkpoint was in hours and when i checked the report file, it had an error.

  • How to set up Replicat Process with GoldenGate on Exadata & DBFS?

    Hi all,
I confuse with usage of DBFS on Exadata when trying to config Replicat Process via this Oracle document:
[Oracle Best Practices For High Availability|http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/database/features/availability/maa-wp-gg-oracledbm-128760.pdf]
I have a system with these description:
EXADATA: 2 node ExaDB01 & ExaDB02. This system mount a DBFS /mnt/dbfs/ggs for store GoldenGate subdirectory (trail and checkpoint file only)
    FUJITSU: 2 node FujDB01 & FujitDB02.
I need to config GoldenGate with DataPump to sync data between these two systems.
On ExaDB01, i created an Extract Process to extract trail file to EXTTRAIL location /mnt/dbfs/ggs/dirdat/aa.
Now, I need to config datapump on ExaDB01 and Replicat Process on FujDB01. At this point, i confuse with DBFS configuration for EXTTRAIL & RMTTRAIL:
    1) At ExaDB01:
GGSCI (exadb01) 1> ADD EXTRACT exadump, EXTTRAILSOURCE /mnt/dbfs/ggs/dirdat/aa
GGSCI (exadb01) 1> ADD RMTTRAIL /mnt/dbfs/goldengate/dirdat/aa EXTRACT exadump, MEGABYTES 500
    2) At FujDB01: Replicat Process
GGSCI (fujdb01) 1> ADD REPLICAT rexadb, EXTTRAIL /mnt/dbfs/goldengate/dirdat/aa
    So in this case:
Q1) ExaDB01 and FujDB01 have the same mount point /mnt/dbfs/ggs?
Q2) With ExaDB01: The "local trail" and "remote trail" in this case are stored in the same directory /mnt/dbfs/ggs/dirdat?
Q3) If "local trail" and "remote trail" are stored in the same directory. So why we need to config DataPump to push "local trail" to "remote trail" location?
    Please light me up!

    GoldenGate forum is over here:
    GoldenGate
(thread has moved from Replication to GoldenGate)
    Extract
    EXTTRAILl aa is created
    Data Pump (secondary extract)
Reads and sends your exttrail to a remote server, which can also be the same server, so in that case, you need to rename the file (the trail ID, two character prefix).
The linkage is you add the data pump extract, and then add the rmttrail
    ADD EXTRACT <dp name>, EXTTRAILSOURCE wherever/aa, BEGIN <time>
ADD RMTTRAIL <wherever on your server/bb, EXTRACT <same dp name>
Note that the trail ID has switched from aa to bb. If going to a remote server, you can use the same ID. If going to the same server, put it in a different path, or have the trail read by replicat named something else via the ID.
If you wanted to use the same dirdat directory, then your original extract is created with aa, and your trails read by replicat can read bb - after the pump has "sent" the aa files over as bb.
You don't need a data pump, but as a best practice, always use one. Using a data pump eliminates replication failure due to network outage. If not using one, then what happens when extract has nowhere to send a trail to on a remote server (because it cannot reach/communicate with the remote server)?
If using the same server without a data pump, then your primary extract "sends" or creates the trail in the rmttrail location, where replicat then reads from. In that case, you only have the one trail ID.
If one on server, you can also create a second instance of GoldenGate (in its own home), so it will have a slightly different path, and in that case, you do not have to switch the trail ID because the path difference will take care of separating the files.

  • When I plug in my iPhone to sync, it starts but does not complete the process and several pieces of data are not being transferred to my iPhone from my MacBook Air.

    Problem:
When I plug in my iPhone to sync, it starts but does not complete the process and several pieces of data are not being transferred to my iPhone from my MacBook Air.
Any help that you can provide in helping my iPhone accurately sync with iPhoto and iTunes will be greatly appreciated.
    Symptoms:
    1)   Sync:  It’s not completing the sync.  Below, I’ve provided all of my settings from the iTunes Summary tab so that you might tell me if I’ve selected any incorrect options.  I prefer to sync the “old school” way – by connecting to the computer – as opposed to syncing over the cloud. Perhaps this is what’s causing the problem? Here is a list of the steps displayed in the iTunes window as the sync progresses:
waiting for sync to start (step 1 of 7)
backing up (step 2 of 7)
preparing to sync (step 3 of 7)
determining apps to sync (step 4 of 7)
preparing apps to sync (step 5 of 7)
importing photos (step 6 of 7)
waiting for changes to be applied (step 7 of 7)
syncing apps / copying 1 of 4 (App name) (step 7 of 7)
    canceling sync
    apple icon
    2)   Photos: I've selected only certain of my iPhoto albums to sync to my iPhone.  All of the albums are correct/complete in iPhoto.  All of the albums are listed on my iPhone, both before and after the sync, but the albums are empty (no actual photos) before and after the sync. Perhaps this is tied to the fact that the sync isn’t completing, but because “importing photos” is one of the steps that the incomplete sync displays, I don’t know.
    3)   Apps: When I launch iTunes and click on the Apps folder under the Library listing, then click on the Updates tab, iTunes searches for any Apps needing to be updated and provides a list.  If I click on Update All, the Apps are successfully updated in iTunes.  But, when I plug in my iPhone so that the updates will transfer to the apps on my iPhone, the updates don’t transfer to the apps on my iPhone and those apps still reflect that they need updating on the iPhone.
    Other Potential Pertinent Info:
The flash memory hard drive on my MacBook Air recently died (perhaps a month or two ago).  Apple had emailed me about a known issue and literally the next day, my MacBook Air crashed.  I installed a new flash memory drive and re-installed everything from a backup off of an external hard drive.  Everything seems to be working fine; it recreated accurately all of my software and data, including iPhoto and iTunes, the pictures and songs (respectively) for which are stored on that hard drive, as opposed to being on the flash memory in the MacBook Air itself.  However, I don’t recall if the start of the sync problem described herein started happening at the same time that I replaced the flash memory drive.  All I know is that the computer is working perfectly in all respects and that even as the sync is failing, it at least says that it’s doing the right things and looking in the right places (e.g., the list of albums on my iPhone matches the list of albums in iTunes, etc.).
    Settings/Status:
    MacBook Air
    OSX v. 10.9
    iPhoto ’11 v. 9.5 (902.7)
    iPhone iOS 7.0.4
    iTunes v. 11.1.3 (8)
    Summary Tab
    Backups (This Computer)
    Options
Automatically sync when this iPhone is connected
Sync only checked songs and videos
    Photos Tab
Sync Photos from iPhoto (429 Photos)
Selected albums, Events, and Faces, and automatically include (no Events)
    Albums – 9 are selected

You need to download iTunes on your computer. iOS 6 requires the latest version of iTunes which is 10.7.

Is this a problem with FCPX or Create DVD?  How can this problem be resolved?

The handshake between FCP and a hidden app called Create Disk wasn't completed.
Try this. Select a short range and Share>DVD. In Output Settings. set it to Hard Drive to save as a disk image. (Save to your Desktop so you can find it.) For menu Background, click the Add button, then cancel. That is often enough to wake up the disk burning part of this process. If it makes a disk image, try a physical disk.

  • Restart of replicat process

    hello
I use goldengate 11.1.1.1.2 on Aix 6.1 server and oracle database 10.2.0.4, the retention of trail files is one day on the target,
when the replicat process abended, I see that, at restart, it reprocess all the trail files , this generate a huge volume of discarded
records, du to  :  "OCI Error ORA-00001: unique constraint  violated".
Why replicat don't use the last scn it has processed ?, and how to restart it at the first non processed record ?
    Thank you

As far as I have seen and read, replicat does use the last scn it has processed and restarts at the first non processed record. That is the default behaviour of the replicat. It will never process a record that it has already processed UNLESS you manually position it at some other place in the trail.
Please see your configuration properly. There should be some other issue. If you have implemented it on RAC, ensure it is implemented properly and replicats on two nodes are not running simultaneously.

    Hi,
I am working on Oracle GG bi-directional DML replication. I m stuck in one place.

After restart the replicat process I can't see the changes on target server which I had applyed on source server during target replicat was ABENED.

Edited by: NaveenK on Aug 29, 2012 3:32 AMHi Naveen. SQL Error 1403 means row not found. Your data is out of sync and you should fix this.
By doing begin now when this happens, you are skipping all the transactions that were "in-line" since the process ABENDED.
You have more than one way to deal with these things, first of all you should synchronize your data! This should get rid of the 1403 errors.
Then you can write rules using REPERROR to tell the replicat how to behave in case of errors should come up.
Using logdump, you can read the exact row which failed and find out the next RBA to skip that specific one if required. You should also configure a DISCARDFILE to get details about errors when they happen.
    Greetings,

Not just the current lag. For example if these processes are runnning for about year now than maximum lag that these processes could have experience in the last one year?
Our GG version is 11.1.1.0.29 and OS is Redhat Linux 4 - 64 bit.

The OGG Management Pack keeps a historical repository for all distributed OGG processes in a central location for alerting, graphing, and troubleshooting. Or you can use the heartbeat table (MOS doc ID 1299679.1) or scripts.

Hi, I am having a little trouble with exporting images to another drive and Catalogue and need some help if anyone can give me some advice
I am currently using Lightroom 5.6 and operating on a Mac with OSX Ver 10.9.5.
I am receiving an error problem when doing the following -
I am exporting selected photos from a particular Catalogue saved on Drive 1 to a folder created on another Drive where a Lightroom Catalogue has been created. In this Catalogue I have arranged for the images once exported to be moved to a different folder - I used the Auto Import process under the File dialogue box.
When processing the Export I receive an error message for each of the images being exported indicating the following -
    Heading Import Results
Some import operations were not performed
Could not move a file to requested location. (1)
then a description of the image with file name
    Box Save As                                  Box  OK
If I click the OK button to each image I can then go to the other Catalogue and all images are then transferred to the file as required.
To click the OK button each time is time consuming, possibly I have missed an action or maybe you can advise an alternative method to save the time in actioning this process.
Thanks if you can can help out.

Thank You, but this is a gong show. Why is something that is so important to us all so very, very difficult to do?

  • Debit and Credit notes not to update COPA cost of sales when doing price ad

    Hi Experts,
Please help me to fix the below issue.
When we correct price adjustments on customer accounts we use debit and credit notes to do these price corrections. We first process a ZCR order type with reference to the original invoice to reverse the transaction and then we process a debit meme request ZDR with the correct details to invoice the customer correctly.
These credit and Debit memo request are purley for pricing problems and do not effect cost of sales. Currently these Debit and credit memos are updating the cost of Sales value field (COS on Market Price - VV013) .
This creates a problem since the credit and debit memo happen in subsequent months e.g. The credit memo is reversed at the old cost of sales value since SAP keeps a reference to the cost of sales at that time but the debit memo creates the cost sales at the new standard cost which is obviously not the same as the original cost of sales. We therefore sit with differences which will not equal FI since FI cost of sales was updated with the goods issue price in the month that the goods issue happened.
We therefore need to zerorise the following value fields when doing ZDR dedit memo and billing type ZL2 and ZCR credit memo billing type ZG2.
    Gross Weight in KG VV004
    Invoiced Qty KG net VV002
    Invoiced Qty in L VV001
    Invoiced Qty in L15 VV003
    Invoiced Quantity VV005
    COS on Market Price VV013
VV001 to VV005 are quantity fields and VV013 is Value field.
Please help me how to fix the issue.
    Regards,
    Amar.

    Hi,
Sorry, I probably confused things by mentioning Revenue. Your settings are correct, with Revenue defined as a revenue element (11) rather than a cost element (1).
With respect to WIP (P&L), I would create it as a cost element, since it represents the absorption of cost centre costs and materials into the production of goods, even though the goods are not yet complete. When the goods are completed they will be credited in CO-OM and debited to stock using a similar entry. The impact of these credits (to WIP or to Stock) is to move costs out of CO-OM into the goods produced (CoGS). In CO-OM, the net result of Costs less credits to WIP/Stock, indicates the efficiency of your cost centres or the accuracy of your standards.
I would also create the manufacturing variance accounts as Cost Elements and settle them back to your production costs centres (or possibly CO-PA if you used it), since they are also a reflection of the efficiency of your cost centres - i.e. if a Cost Centre manager is not achieving the standards, (s)he should be accountable for the variance, and if you are concerned about reconciling CO-OM and the costs in P&L, you won't reconcile if the variances aren't posted back to CO.

  • Error when doing importing with impdp

    Hi,
I tried to do export then import the schema from and to same schema. However, when doing export with expdp everything was okay.
Problem begins when I tried to do importing by using impdp. I also tried to drop the current schema and created the new one but it still doesn't work.
If I didn't drop the current schema, it logs looks like this

And then this is the log when doing importing, I only highlighted the necessary part which I think related with my problem

The source schema is on USERS tablespace (default). The destination schema I tried to put on the same tablespace but it doesn't work. However when I changed the destination tablespace, it also doesn't work.
Anybody got the idea why this occurs? Thanks.

  • Record chat not seen as option in OS X Mavericks Messages when doing video chat

In OS X Mountain Lion when doing a video chat using Messages one can record the video chat. (assuming you have permission by the other party (parties??))
I do not see that option in the "upgraded" OS X Mavericks.
Is the lack of a record video option another "hidden" gem that Apple is providing us by creating "simplicity"?
Or is the feature still somehow accessible thru a more "simple" means other than the way it used to be in OS X Mountain Lion?
So, if Apple has deliberately and secretly removed this feature without telling me do you know of good screen-capture software that I can use as a workaround with regards to this missing feature?

    for the   Points.
