When I click on my iTunes icon, it highlights but does not open.

I can't open iTunes and haven't been able to for a couple days now. I can't find any solutions anywhere. Does anyone know a way to fix this?

    Hello, I sure hope someone can help me. I just had my computer cleaned out.....could it have been something they did? Do I have to uninstall it and reinstall it?? Also when I first opened itunes....I got a pop up window saying something to the effect...that I had 2 itunes and was only allowed 1....and did I wish to transfer my purchases....and I can't remember what else it said....I chose transfer....and those were the only songs I could find on my itunes before it wouldn't let me open it again.....Can someone help PLEASE.....newbie here

    You can't activate any GSM iPhone without a valid sim card installed in the phone.

    Had the exact same problem.
    I fixed it this way:
    Start Quicktime and it began to repair itself.
    After that ITunes worked again.
    Then I ran Apple Software Update. And Quicktime was updated to the latest version, and movies worked in ITunes again

    This didn't help, because unless I'm missing something, all this does is give me the option of where to download, not the option to open instead of downloading. I used to get a window that asked me "What should Firefox do with this file?" It gave me two options: 1) Open with ... and 2) Save file. Under that there is another box that says "Do this automatically for files like this from now on." When I clicked on that box, I thought I was telling it to open the files from now on, but apparently I was telling it to save the files from now on. In a nutshell, I want to get this window back that gives me the option of opening the file immediately or downloading it. I don't just want the option of where to download, as your solution seems to be. I can't believe that selecting "do this automatically from now on" is irrevocable. Please help! Thanks.

    Have you looked at the [[Opening PDF files within Firefox]] Knowledge Base article? There are a couple of different PDF plugins listed in the article. I'd suggest you give those a shot. You might also want to take a look at [[Using the Adobe Reader plugin with Firefox]].

    OK well that doesn't actually work.  Restarting does not work. It has not affected Firefox, so I can get online, but every time I try to start Safari it comes up to that page with the f-ing popup and won't go any further.  It has made itself the homepage for Safari.

    How can I locate my iTunes library files?  When I click on my iTunes icon rather than my iTunes files I receive, " The file iTunes Library.itl." cannot be read because it was created by a newer version of iTunes."  I have already tried to update my iTunes program.

    Had same problem and solved it without having to reinstore any music or movies:
    1. Delete old Library file
    2. Go to the 'Previous iTunes Libraries' folder and copy one of the earlier files - note, they have a date extension, e.g. 'iTunes Library 2011-11-01'.
    3. Paste this file in your iTuners folder and rename file by removing the date extension -  'iTunes Library'
    You should have all your music and paylists in tact, unless it was a really old previous file.

    When you sync to a new library, it will erase the current content.
    Use your backup copy of the old computer to copy everything to the new one.

    even shutting down, and it will do all but takes several minutes to do so.
    My itunes program was working fine when this problem suddenly arose.

    Click here and follow the instructions. You may need to completely remove and reinstall iTunes and all related components, or run the process multiple times; this won't normally affect its library, but that should be backed up anyway.
