When I go to turn up or down my volume it says I'm plugged into headphones even when I'm not. Why would that be?

Today I was FaceTiming my friend and all of a sudden my volume wasn't working I went to turn up my volume and it said I was plugged into headphones even though I wasn't. Why would that be?

Hello, more than likely the switch inside the headphone port is stuck open. Try looking inside the port, do you see any foreign material; lint, dirt, etc? If so try to remove it by blowing it out. If nothing appears to be in the port try plugging and unplugging the headphone jack quickly several times to unblock the switch and/or clear the contacts. If still no joy try a reset, or Reset All Settings. If still nothing try restoring from backup or restore to new. Just make sure you backup your iPod before restoring or you will loose stuff. If problem continues contact Apple Genius Bar and have your iPod evaluated. Good luck, Cheers.

    1. Reset iPad
    2. Try another wall socket
    3. Try another cable (make sure it's an original Apple cable)
    4. Try another charger (make sure it's an original Apple charger)
    5. Clean Lightning port with compress air or new paint brush

Try using /Applications/Utilities/Disk Utility to repair file permissions.

  • When a video is sent to my iphone4 (from an iphone4 or 5) as a message it is clear on the sending phone but fuzzy when I receive it.  Why would that be?

When a video is sent to my iphone 4 (from an iphone 4 or 5) as a message it is clear on the sending phone but fuzzy when I receive it.  Why would that be?

Sent as an MMS, or as an iMessage?
If sent as an MMS, the carrier reduces the size and quality of a video sent as an MMS.
The same shouldn't apply with iMessage but it might.

Each time you connect your iPhone to iTunes, you need to eject it before closing iTunes by clicking on the little "eject" icon shown in iTunes.  It seems that sometime in the past, you did not do that.
I'm not sure how to undo the previously done damage, but maybe a reboot of your Mac would help.

    You do not have insurance.
You do have a one year warranty on workmanship and materials.
Call Apple and set up an appointment to have them look at it.
They should fix it ot replace it for you.

  • IPod Classic won't turn on unless plugged into wall even though battery is charged

I plugged in my old iPod Classic and charged it up for a long time. I got that little plug symbol that indicates that it's fully charged. The iPod turns on and works fine when it's plugged into the wall, but as soon as I unplug it, it won't do anything at all. Just black screen. I also tried plugging it into the computer. Nothing.
I tried re-setting by toggling the "Hold" button and then pressing Play/Pause and Menu at the same time. Nothing.
Why would it be fine when plugged into the wall but not when unplugged or plugged into the computer? Is it possible that is really is not fully charged even though it did show that little plug symbol? It had been just sitting for many months.

    Hi there,
How old is your Classic? Often, after a couple of years, rechargable batteries begin to fail, especially after such a long period of inactivity. This happens with any gadget with this type of battery.
Try leaving it plugged in for 24 hours, and try again, to rule out that it isn't just really low on charge. If this doesn't help, it may be a good time to buy a replacement. New iPod Nanos and Touches will be released this October.
Below, I've linked to an Apple website which explains rechargable batteries, and why yours may not be working.

I hope this helps, and I hope upgrading your device will not feel like an unnecessary expense. Let me know if you have any more questions,
    Nathan

  • Turning up or down the volume without disturb

Is there a way to disable the disturbing icon and the clicking sound when I press F11 and F12 on the keyboard?  It's very annoying.

Arthur is right about the sound effect, but I actually found a way around the visual too.
I know this is a big post but I promise it's not too difficult!
You will need to download Quicksilver if you do not already have it as well as 3 Applescripts I wrote to do this very thing. The link to them is below.
In System Preferences, click "Keyboard" (second row, 4th item) and check the box to make the F keys standard function keys. This means you have to hold the Fn key to use them, but it is the only way to get around the popup volume icon.
If you want to, you can make Mission Control, Launchpad and Dashboard open from just the F key (so you do not need to hold Fn) if you go to Mission Control (first row, 4th item) and use the drop down boxes to set the buttons to do what you want. However, you will still have to hold Fn to change brightness.
Download these scripts and put them in a folder in your Applications folder. The folder name does not matter. I won't keep them in my dropbox forever, but I'll leave them up for a while in case anyone else wants them.
    https://www.dropbox.com/sh/rtubl9rnqkthzby/ahqM--Ar6U
Keep the folder open, you'll need it in the next step.
Launch Quicksilver. Click Quicksilver at the top left of the screen then click Triggers. Make sure you can see the scripts beside the Triggers window. In the bottom left of that window, click the plus icon then Hotkey. Drag the Mute script into the top of the box where it says "Select an item." Do the same for the other 2 scripts.
Once they're all in, double click the Mute script under the "Trigger" column and press F10. Do the same for the others, making Down F11 and Up F12.
That should do it! Let me know if you have any questions or if something doesn't work, I'll be happy to help.

  • Iphone 3GS was dropped and will not turn on or respond to USB connection.  Is there any way to extract the data off when it is not responding so that I can restore to my new phone?

The phone is physically intact, but you can see the LCD is cracked behond the glass. I have tried plugging it in, tried putting it on the charger, and resetting it using the off and home buttons, bit response. I don't need the phone to work, but I do need to be bale to back it up in order to restore to the new phone.  Is there any way to extract the data or back up the hard drive without repairing the phone?  Just curious what my options are before I spend cash trying to fix the phone and find out there was another way to get the data.  Any thoughts here or should a good repair shop being able to create a backup somehow?

Im not going to be much help because I don't know of anything else to besides take it somewhere that fixes electronics and see if they can get it off some how maybe if you take it to an apple store they can do something to get your information.

  • IPod touch won't play ANY music, only skips. All music plays when FROM ipod when plugged into iTunes. No, songs are not corrupt, I was playing an album through iTunes from my iPod and for no reason iTunes froze and now I'm having issues with my iPod.

So I was playing an album from my iPod through iTunes like normal, and the album ended. I switched to iTunes view to change to a new one and it said "iPod is done syncing" (I did not choose to sync, nor did anything appear different). I tried to click on a song to play and iTunes froze. I had to restart iTunes and when I ejected my iPod (properly) the syncing sign was still turning on my iPod. As of now my iPod only skips through every song I try to play, but when I plug it into iTunes every song FROM my iPod plays perfectly.
No, I do not want to "factory reset" my iPod. No I do not wish to do anything crazy long or hard to fix this. Everything was working fine before when it decided to do this with very little effort, therefore I would like it fixed with very little effort.
I have tried resycing my iPod multiple times (every time I eject it from iTunes it appears to do so properly [iPod icon goes away] but the syncing icon still appears on my iPod).
I have almost 58 GB of music on my iPod so I'm not interested in starting from scratch. Also a good portion of my music is on a computer I don't have access to anymore so that's out of the question. Since the music seems to be uncorrupted (still plays from iPod in iTunes) I want a way to fix this iPod issue without having to erase anything.

    Try:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Unsync all music and resync
    - Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
    - Restore from backup. See:
    iOS: How to back up
    - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.
If still problem, make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store since it appears you have a hardware problem.

That may be necessary, It is not what you want to do/not do but what is required to resolve your problem.

    - Try cleaning out/blowing out the headphone jack. Try inserting/removing the plug a dozen times or so.
Try the following to rule out a software problem
    - Reset the iPod. Nothing will be lost
Reset iPod touch: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
    - Restore from backup
    - Restore to factory settings/new iPod.
    - Make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store. Seems you have a bad headphone jack.

  • Lately, when i open a tab, it does not open on top of already open tabs. I am forced to minimize Firefox and then click on the tab in my bottom tray to open it? Why would that be?

This only started happening about 2 days ago. I will have tabs open, go to bookmarks and click on one. It seems that it is not opening but I then discovered that there is a tab at my desktop bottom tray that opened instead that I can click on to open the tab. However, it will not open unless I first minimize my bottom tray whole Firebox browser.

That is the default action when you open a new tab. There are extensions that you can install to change it from a blank page to whatever you want.
