When I'm scrolling down the msgs. it keeps stopping & saying not responding. Then it will start up again for a few seconds & then stop again. It's very slow. When I'm playing Farmville or Frontierville it's extremely slow too.

for what it's worth, it seems to be worse on my netbook which is running windows 7. the laptop, which is running linux ubuntu, is slower than I'd like, but doesn't freeze up as badly. and the desktop, running win xp, I rarely use. :)

That file could be set as a Launch Agent or Daemon in your ~/Library or /Library, You could try to look for it or Safeboot your computer and then empty the trash. I too am facing this problem, however a little differently. I am in the process of uploading my vinyl collection to digital format in Audacity and am having this problem with multiple tracks when played in iTunes. The first few albums I ripped play just fine in iTunes, but the last few skip over about the last minute of every song and go to the next song. As you said, if you drag the time marker past the skipping point though, the rest of the song will play to the end just fine. I then synced these songs onto my iPod and they play perfectly straight through. I was leaning toward a bad mp3 encoding process that was maybe creating a glitch but I'm not sure at this point if they play correctly on my iPod. In quicktime the song will just stop playing at that specfic point, but if you hit play again, it will continue to the end. I can say though, I haven't seen this problem with any iTunes download, or ripped CD that I have ever put into iTunes (which makes my situation a tad different than yours), it's been purely the songs that I have imported via Audacity from LP's.

Back up all data.

Hi mterry1723, one solution that might be worth trying is this:
- Close iTunes, if it's open
- Open Safari and got to 'Preferences'
- Select 'Security' on the top
- Untick all the security options in the menu
- Click the 'Show Cookies' button and look for all the 'apple' entries in the left-hand column.
- Highlight them (select them collectively) and press 'Remove'
- Now open iTunes and buy the song as usual.
- You may be asked to do the same security process as before, so do as asked.
- Hopefully, the security check will now have accepted your answers and start downloading the song as normal.
Remember to re-tick all the required security options you had just un-ticked in Safari preferences. You don't need to bother about opening the cookies again.
I hope this has worked for you and my profoundest apologies if it has not. Worth a go, though!

See if the Disk is issuing any S.M.A.R.T errors in Disk Utility...

Open Activity Monitor in Applications>Utilities, select All Processes & sort on CPU%, any indications there?
How much RAM & free space do you have also, click on the Memory & Disk Usage Tabs.
Open Console in Utilities & see if there are any clues or repeating messages when this happens.
In the Memory tab, are there a lot of Pageouts?

Select the wi-fi tab in the menu bar then select "Open Network Preferences..." Select the "Advanced" button, then select the network that it is interfering with your MBP, then hit the - button and it will "forget" that network. Hope that fixes your problem, good luck.

its fixed!! After posting my problem with the FROZEN ipod classic (2007) 80 gb a screen popped up with similar subjects that I did not find in my original search. 'Rich Fleming' in the community posted a suggestion to someone with a similar frozen issue and it WORKED when I tried it.
hold the 'menu' and the 'circle' buttons down at the same time, KEEP the pressed until the apple appears. and now it is working. Hope this helps others.

Well it probably means exactly what it says... How much free space is there on your hard drive where the iTunes Media folder resides? I believe there is also an obscure bug that can occur when software doesn't read the true value of the free space properly, and the workaround is, perversely, to duplicate some content so that with less actual free space the software in question perceives it as more. I've no idea if iTunes is affected by such a bug.

You should be syncing your contacts with an app on your computer or cloud service (iCloud, Gmail, Yahoo, etc), and not relying on a backup. If you haven't been doing this, start now and then restore your old backup. You will then be able to sync the new contacts back into the phone. However, you will lose all messages, etc newer thant the backup.

Not necessarily. We use a product called Scannerz to test hard drives. They have a book on hard drive troubleshooting that you can download here:

Scroll to the bottom of the web page and download the Hard Drive Troubleshooting book. You won't want to read the whole thing, just the section describing your problem. Most of the stuff they describe in their "advanced" section requires unit disassembly, and the way that section is written I think they're assuming people know how to take units apart without any instructions - in other words it's not written "for the rest of us." Most of the resets they describe that you might need can be done by anyone.
If you end up buying Scannerz, I would NOT recommend Scannerz-Lite, I'd go with Scannerz with FSE-Lite. It costs about $14.00 more but they keep enhancing the product and adding more applications to it, all free if you own Scannerz w/FSE or FSE-Lite. I'd also avoid FSE all together unless you know a fair amount about the operating system, files, processes, Unix type path names, etc. etc.
If you're lucky that will end up being nothing more than a reset.
