  • HT2404 When I try to download free updates for apps, I've suddenly started getting an error message saying: You cannot update this software since you have not owned the major version of this software." But I do own the apps. And I haven't changed my ID

When I try to download free updates for apps, I've suddenly started getting an error message saying "You cannot update this software since you have not owned the major version of this software".
But I HAVE owned the software, for ages. (And, in any case, the apps in question are all free.)
And I don't have multiple Apple IDs.
    What can I do?
    Any advice much appreciated

This can occur if you bought the machine used and iLife was reinstalled with another AppleID.
This also can occur if the "free apps" you downloaded have paid upgraded versions and/or are now payware and you can't get updates.
All software from MAS is copy protected, it might be free as in "no charge" but it's not free in the sense you can share it with others.

  • My ipod won't sync and it keeps coming up with an error message saying "internal error" or it tries to get me to restore from a backup. All of my music and movies have been wiped from my ipod and the apps don't work. The backups don't work either. help.

I plugged my ipod touch into my computer to sync it and it came up with an error message saying that it encoutered an internal error and it refused to sync.
I then unplugged it and plugged it back in and this time it told me that I needed to restore from a backup or set it up as a new ipod. I tried to restore from a backup but it came up with the error message "Backup session failed" every time. I then looked on my ipod and all of my music and movies are gone though it still says that they are on the ipod in itunes. I decided to use the restore function and let that finish. After restoring it still doesn't allow me to sync or back up and The music and movies can still not be seen. I am currently attempting to copy the music and movies to my ipod though this did not work with my apps as they transfered but when I attempted to open them they just crash... If someone could please help me it would be great. It is driving me crazy.

If you get an error that says can't backup, try moving the existing backup file to a safe location and thry again. again. You can find the location of the backup file here:

  • My iPhone cannot connect to iTunes. It says I need to update to 11.0.5 to use iTunes with my iOS 7 iphone 5 but still won't work, any ideas?

I just downloaded and updated to the new iOS 7 software today for it's release. But when I plug my phone into my usb and then into my macbook, it won't work on iTunes. It says it's not compatible and I need to update to the latest iTunes which they say is 11.0.5. When I go online and download the iTunes installer and download the new update, it works out fine and I don't seem to have any trouble with it but as soon as it opens iTunes when the installer finishs, the mesage about compatibility comes up again even though I just updated to 11.0.5. If anyone has any idea, let me know! I'm hoping that maybe it's just a glitch with the new iTunes that needs to be fixed up?

    Hello Apple_Addict22,
Thank you for your question. iOS 7 requires iTunes 11.1.  First, I recommend trying to obtain the update by going to the iTunes menu and selecting Check for Updates.

If you continue to get the message that iTunes is up to date, you can download the latest version of iTunes here:

Once the file downloads, double click on the installation file that downloaded to initiate the installation.

  • When I try to download a free app that I accidently deleted, I get an error message that says 1004, try again later. I want to reload the app and it won't let me. HELP!!

I have an ipad2 and it won't let me reload an app that I accidently deleted. It is a free app that I had downloaded without a problem and now when I try to re-install it, a message comes up repeatedly that says Error 1004-Try again later. Please help!
    Thanks,
    Tryingtorelax

Try this and see if it works for you.
Go to Settings>Safari>Clear History, Cookies and Data/Cache. Restart the iPad. Restart the iPad by holding down on the sleep button until the red slider appears and then slide to shut off. To power up hold the sleep button until the Apple logo appears and let go of the button.

  • Problem with ichat, error message says computer does not support video chat

I have never had a problem with Ichat until yesterday...now apparently I don't have the video capability.  I am running 10.7.2.  I turned off Facetime.  I now have the video camera image but it won't let me video chat.  Any ideas?

    Hi,
In iChat open the Connection Doctor (Video menu) and the the Capabilities option
Are all items showing Green ?
Try restarting iChat (It re-reads the computers Ability at each launch)
If that does not work try restarting the Computer.
Make sure that in iChat menu > Preference > Video Section the Bandwidth Limit is not set to 100kbps (this is too Low for 1-1 video chats)
    Do a Speed test
"Real World" speeds need at least 256kbps both up and down.
Check the System Profiler is "seeing" the camera.
It will be in Hardware > USB

About the only thing you can try is using the Online Internet Recovery system to reinstall Lion on your Mac over the top of the current install. that will reset all system files and should not touch your personal files or the apps you have installed.
Or iof you have a recent Time Machine backup use that to restore your Mac to that point in time.

  • When I begin to attempt to download the windows support software in boot camp, it says the windows support software is unavailable. Is there any other place I can download it for a Macbook Pro 5,5 intel core 2 duo without the original CD?

When I begin to attempt to download the windows support software in boot camp, it says the windows support software is unavailable. Is there any other place I can download it for a Macbook Pro 5,5 intel core 2 duo with snow leopard without the original CD?

    Hi,
apart from the MacBook Air this feature is of no use for other Macs right now.
Simply ingnore it (click "I already have the Drivers...) and continue with the installation.
Sorry to say but you need the OSX Install DVD for the BootCamp Driver installation.
The 3.0 version of the BootCamp Drivers is only avaiable on the disc.
Later updates (3.1 and 3.2) can be downloaded from Apples Support website.
Call Apple and ask for a replacement and they usually send you one for a small fee.
And have the Serial-Number of your Mac at hand when calling.
And since the OSX Install DVD can also be vital for maintenance and repair it is best to have one.
The needed BootCamp Drivers are on the OSX Install DVD 1 that came with your Mac.
Insert that disc while in Windows after the Windows installation to install the drivers.
    Regards
    Stefan

  • How do I download the Windows Support Software for MacBook Mid-2010 ?

Hey guys, I've got quite a big problem at the moment... In December, I bought a MacBook7,1 (the Mid-2010 Unibody model) and used my OS X install disc whenever I wanted to install Windows XP/Vista/7 drivers to my Boot Camp partition. However, I've recently got quite a bit of a problem...
See, I can't find my OS X Install Disc. So I have to use, from within the Boot Camp Assistant, the "Download the Windows support software for this Mac" function, to be able to burn to DVD/install to a USB stick.
Now, this function up until recently used to work completely fine - no issues at all. However I need to reinstall my Windows 7  (again, I know, Windows has quite a few problems but I really do need to use it for what I do - gaming, etc) again, and whenever I try this option in the last... week, I'd wager, it comes up with "Download could not be continued" and "The Windows Support Software is unavailable" errors.
I've checked on this forum and some people are saying that Apple removed the support software for some Macintosh computers? What on Earth? What about us lot who don't have our OS X install discs anymore?! I don't think it's fair they've specifically gimped a functionality that was working fine until a bit ago for no apparent reason. It's just... stopped working. Is this for everyone?
Is there some alternative I can use? I've tried everything. I don't have someone I could just borrow the OS X install disc from and I think it's rather unfair if they expect to me to shell out for an OS X install disc again when I could previously do what I wanted for free!!!

The point isn't whether I lost them, the point is that I was able to use the Boot Camp Assistant previously fine to download the Win Support Software and put that on a USB stick (which has since been formatted for other usage).
Since this was made available as an option, I haven't really had much need for the OS X install discs (Unless I really, really needed to reinstall OS X at some point but I have no reason to fear that right?). To claim this being "okay" because I've misplaced the discs is rather outrageous.

  • Why is the Windows Support Software taking forever to download in boot camp 4.0?

Hi, everybody! First time in the forums.
I've surfed though hours of content to try and find an answer to my problem. Whenever I try to download the Windows Support Software from Boot Camp 4.0 it gets to about 20% and just lays there. Forever. I've just left it there for hours and nothing. I have a Macbook pro 13" and am using osx 10.7.4. This is my first Macbook and I'm not really familiar with a lot of the great features.
If anyone has gotten around this then please help me out! Thanks in advance!

Only you can decide. I'll wait till the 10.8.1 or 10.8.2 version comes out, thank you very much... What I meant is that huge number of ML downloaders (@ 4.5GB a pop, which is what the installer file takes up) surely must be eating serious bandwith off Apple's servers.
Tech Support will roll their eyes and suggest yet more patience!

  • While at boot camp assistant, Downloading the windows support software stalls

From a long time windows user, I was persuaded to migrate to mac and am quite lost. While using boot camp assistant, downloading the windows support software just stalls at 20%. I tried using alternative drives, USB, DVD and the partitioned HD of imac but still to no avail. What should I do?

No problem.  For me, I spent the time downlaoding the drivers for Boot Camp 4.0 (form Lion), un-installed by Boot Camp 3.0 because it wouldn't upgrade, and then learned that Boot Camp 4.0 didn't support my old MacBok Pro.  I had to go back and install 3.0, then update to 3.1, 3.2 and finally to 3.3.  That took me about an hour and a half...  Oh well,  at least I already had most of those on disc ot downloaded...

  • I am trying to install windows on my mac via bootcamp, and it says I need to download Windows Support Software. I tried, but it says "Download can not continue. The Windows Support Software is not available.

I am running OSX 10.6.8 Snow lepard I am trying to install windows on my intel imac 20in late 2006  via bootcamp, and it says I need to download Windows Support Software. I tried, but it says "Download can not continue. The Windows Support Software is not available. I bought the Imac secend hand and did not get the install dvd's with it What can I do?

You don't need to download the Windows support software, because in Snow Leopard, they are only available as a download for the Late 2010 MacBook Air.
Instead, you have to buy Mac OS X Snow Leopard. The Snow Leopard disc contains the Windows drivers for your Mac, so you have to install them after finishing the Windows installation

  • I am trying to install windows 7 on my macbook pro 13", when i run bootcamp it tells me that there is not a windows support software available for my computer. Where can i get the windows support software for my macbook?

I am trying to install windows 7 on my macbook pro 13", when i run bootcamp it tells me that there is not a windows support software available for my computer. Where can i get the windows support software for my macbook?

Apple only supports Windows on certain hardware.
    http://www.apple.com/support/bootcamp/
Apple provides their framework for Windows to run on a Mac, a piece of software called a Hybrid MBR that bridges the gap between how Windows reads the drive partition table (MBR) and EFI/GUID partition table that Mac's use.
It doesn't mean Windows can't run on your Mac, a third party solution called rEFIt will also bridge the gap and allow booting of more that just Windows, Linux as well for a triple booting computer.
Your hardware has to meet the other requirements the second and third operating system needs as as being able to install drivers that will work for your hardware, especially the fans or they will run loud and fast by default.
    http://refit.sourceforge.net/
This above is a advanced procedure which requires knowledge how computers and various operating systems, drive formats and so forth work.
I even admit I don't know everything myself, but I experiment on a separate piece of Mac hardware (out of warranty/AppleCare) designed for this purpose so in case something screws up I'm not taking down my only machine and can use the other to get online and find solutions.
There is a very high potential for losing your data if your using advanced/non-Apple methods to install Windows on your only Mac where Apple doesn't support it. Also one shouldn't be doing this on Mac hardware that is under AppleCare or warranty as it might be voided. Proceed at your own risk and education.
