My 2006 MacBook Pro and my 2011 MacBook Air both do it. It happens because the earth ground stops at the power brick and is not carried through to the case of the machine. It is not dangerous or the machine would not have been UL approved.
Since I operate on battery 99.9999% of the time it doesn't bother me at all.

Hi Friends, my apple mac book air just shut down while I was working on it. The charger was plugged in. It is a 2009 model. I did the SMC Reset and PRAM Reset. When I press the power button it gives out a beep sound. It did start for a few minutes after the SMC Reset and it also booted for a few seconds after PRAM Reset. but it again down down. I bought this laptop from a neighbour last year who has left the country where I am, thus, he is not in touch anymore. Please Help me in fixing it. Any help is appreciated. Thanks!

Try to reset the phone by holding the sleep and home button for about 10sec, until the Apple logo comes back again.
If this does not work, see if you can connect in recovery mode, explained in this aricle:

Have you tried a reset ? Press and hold both the sleep and home buttons for about 10 to 15 seconds (ignore the red slider), after which the Apple logo should appear - you won't lose any content, it's the iPad equivalent of a reboot.
I've also seen it suggested that people try downloading a free app from the store onto the iPad (as that seems to reset something), and then re-try the apps - the free app can then be deleted.

Have you tried a hard shutdown? Hold the power button for about 5-6 seconds, and it will force the computer to power down. (Note that you may lose and unsaved changes)

Does anyone know why my 2008 Macbook just unexpectantly shuts down? I have my info states that I have 65.65GB Available, I was running Firefox & Safari at the same time as well as Yahoo IM, Excel for Macs & photo preview.
I wasn't allowed to extend my Apple Care & I'm afraid my computer will expire.
Can anyone give some information or tell me what to do for the next time; if it happens?
This time I turned it back on using the Command key + the power button.

That may not be enough free space depending on the total capacity of the drive.
Right or control click the MacintoshHD icon. Click Get Info. In the Get Info window you will see Capacity and Available. Make sure there's a minimum of 15% free disk space.

Have you tried starting up in Safe Mode (hold shift key at startup)?
If that doesn't work, try starting in Recovery mode (hold command r at startup) and run Disk Utility to repair your disk.

I am having the same problem with my ipad air but mine is so severe that it's just rebooting non stop. I guess the battery will die eventually but it has rendered the device useless. I guess I will be taking it back to apple. Very disappointed. Never had an apple product in 20yrs have such a severe problem.

MacBook Pro keeps shutting down immediately after startup chime

I booted into Windows 7 on my boot camp partition and was about to play Dirt 3 for the 1st time. I was in the options menu of the game and my MacBook Pro just shut down/turned off instantly.
I turned back on, holding in Option so I could boot into Windows again, but the computer just turned off immediately after the startup chime. I turned on again, this time I didn't hold in Option, so I could boot into OS X (my default startup volume) and the same thing happened - MBP shut down immediately after the startup chime. I tried again, same thing. I tried again, and this time it booted fine into OS X, and all seems ok.
Any idea what's going on?

Hi. When you were in the recovery drive doing permissions, did you try and run a repair of the boot drive? Did you try single user mode? Try these first and then go back and try to reinstall the operating system.When I say repair boot drive I don't mean permissions. There are both options in disk utilities.When you open disk utilities ,you will see in the left column two drives plus possibly a boot partition that look like an external driv. click on the second drive and in first aid use repair disk. Quicktime codec does not work, internet explorer just shuts down!

I have reinstalled quicktime many times and still I cannot view any videos or movie previews on internet explorer that use the quicktime plugin. When I open the page that is supposed to use the plupin, a window pops up saying I should install the ActivX controller. When I press ok another popup comes up saying that internet explorer needs to shut don because of an error. So it just shuts down. I have tried to go through the support pages and I cant see anything that would seem to help so there is anyone who knows how to fix this problem, I would appreciate it.

It's been years since I use Internet Explorer (especially on a PC).
You must "enable" the ActiveX control in IE. (Probably a preference setting).
Have you tried using other Web browsers? Most are free.
