Where are edits & keywords of my copies?

After I edit and keyword my photos I copy them, and the current catalog, onto two other drives using Windows Explorer.  When I import them into LR there's no edits or keywords.
Why doesn't this work?  If my hard drive crashes I want RAW backups with all my edits intact.  How do I do this?

The edits and keywords exist in the catalog.
If you import the images into a new catalog, you left behind al the edits and keywords in the old catalog.
You can copy all that data from one catalog to another by "export as catalog" and "import as catalog".
Copying the images and catalog is a good way to make backups. You just need to make sure that you do the copy and restore in such a way that you do not lose the relationship between the image files and the Lightroom catalog.

  • New Computer.... Where are my Keywords, etc.?

My old OS got really sick and needed to be "renewed".  I had to install a new HDD with a new OS, etc.  I was on Windows XP and the new OS is Vista.
This all required a fresh install... basically no old application files were transferred....   The old HDD is still intact and useable..... but not its OS.
I installed LR2.7, and it works OK... but I do not know where to find thinngs like my Keywords files, etc.
I have read the Tech Note on where the catalog and preferences is located, etc.. but I am not so sure about any other files that were on my old HDD.
Can someone help me know what files need to be moved, find the old files, and tell me where to put them in my new OS?
    Thanks
    Frank

They are wherever you put them.
Did you copy them from your old computer or your backup copy of your old computer, to your new one?

  • Moving from PSE12 to LR...where are my keyword tags?

I was a heavy user of keyword tags in PSE...including nested tags and setting up my own categories.   When I "upgraded" my PSE catalog to LR, many of the PSE tags didn't show up in LR.  Also, for some of the tags that did show up they pointed to only a few of the images that the tag pointed to in PSE.
Any ideas?  Help will be appreciated.

    OK..here's where we are----

  • Where are my keywords stored?

I have a lot of photos and have chosen to split them up into separate iPhoto libraries using iPhoto buddy.
So I wanted to create a new, blank library for 2008, but noticed that none of my own Keywords were there. I assumed that Keywords were a common preference for iPhoto, so the same keywords would be available for all libraries, but apparently not. So which file can I copy from the existing libraries and place into my newly created 2008 library to get those same Keywords?

    osmanthus
The keywords are stored in the library.iphoto file, which is the main db file. That file is unique to each library so you cannot use it in different libraries.
The best I can suggest is add ALL your keywords to a single pic, then download iPhoto Library Manager and use it to copy that pic to the new library. This will bring all the associated metadata - including keywords - to the new library with it. iPhoto Library Manager is the only way to move pics and associated metadata between libraries.

  • Where are Edit and Smileys?

I am using my iPad (3)  and do not see the Edit or Smiley buttons on the bottom of the window.
    Is this normal?

One would think so, but Jive Software (I think) developed this website for Apple so you think that Apple would have requested that their very own browser work well on the iPad on their own ASC discussion forums. however, that is not the case.
Mercury, iCab and Dolphin will all let you edit, from what I can remember. Actually, I think I had problems even posting with Opera. I have tried so many browsers, it makes my head spin. I finally found a winner with iCab Mobile.

  • Where are the actual Aperture files located? Only in the application? I am transitioning to Lightroom and would like to only move some of the files. Advice appreciated. Also anyone know how to transfer in with edits?

Where are the actual Aperture files located? Only in the application? I am transitioning to Lightroom and would like to only move some of the files. Advice appreciated. Also anyone know how to transfer in with edits? Using iMac, OS X, most recent Aperture and Lightroom 5.7 with plugin for Aperture.

    Define "the Aperture files".
    Read this concise guide.
The files you imported into an Aperture Library can be exported (at any time, and repeatedly) using the command "File ▹ Export ▹ Originals".  Your Originals are never altered.  What went in is what comes out.
Adjustments and changes to the metadata that you made since creating an Image in Aperture by importing a file are saved to a text file.  This file is combined, on-the-fly, with the Original to create the Image that you see in Aperture.  There is no file saved to disk that is the full-size Image.  Thumbnails are saved, and Previews are saved.  These are JPG files, almost always smaller than the Original.  They are not substitutes for the Image for the use you have.
When you need a file of an Image to use in another program, you export the Image from Aperture.  "Export" means "Make me a file of this Image according to these file specs I'm providing".  The way to get files of your adjusted Images is simple:  create them by exporting.  Specify "Original size", and use a loss-less image-file format (e.g. TIFF 16-bit) if you want to retain as much visual information as possible.
Search the Web for information about transitioning from Aperture to Lightroom.  Note that I say "transitioning".  You cannot move a database from one format to another without significant changes, and likely some loss of information.  Adobe provides a tool and some instructions.  I strongly recommend working out the process step-by-step, and then proceeding with first a few Images, then a bushel-ful, and stopping to use the first few, the the bushel-ful, before committing your entire collection to the process.
As always, never use any computer file without having a back-up.
We have seen mixed reports here of the success of the LR tool that creates a LR database from your Aperture database.
If you want to carefully define the process, and test and refine it, use the excellent process-development, analysis, and execution program inShort.
Sadly, there is not and can never be a good, thorough re-positioning of the digital assets in your Aperture Library to become digital assets in a LR database.  Just as a metaphor for any user contemplating transitioning to another digital asset manager:  that would be like digging up a house in one country, planting it in a hole in another country, and expecting to be able to use the toilet and the sinks, turn on the lights, cook dinner, and sleep soundly.
    HTH,

  • Where are the photos in the organizer located?

When I put photos in the organizer, does the organizer make copies of the originals? Where are they located on the hard drive?

    coolmanoh wrote:

You don't put any photo in the organizer : the location on the drive of the media files and their properties are written in the catalog database together with a small thumbnail. The photos stay where you have put them.
If you are 'getting photos or videos' from camera or card reader, you are using an accessory module (the downloader) to upload from your camera card to your computer before the photos are registered in the organizer catalog. You can check the location where the files are written in your computer in the Edit / preference menu of the organizer. You can specify where you want the photos to be stored on your computer.
After the photos are downloaded from your card, the organizer automatically reads the location and properties of those files and writes that info in the database.
If you are 'getting photos from files or folders', there is no copy, the updating of the database is made from the already present files on your computer.
It's up to you to chose if you want to use the downloader or simply use other ways to get the photos from your card to your computer.

  • How are edited iPhoto pictures represented in Aperture?

    Hi all,
I'm a relatively new Aperture user, and apologize in advance if the answer to my question is common knowledge.  (I did my homework first, but perhaps didn't search on the right keywords.)  I imported a few thousand pictures from iPhoto to Aperture, and had Aperture copy them into its library instead of referencing them from iPhoto's library.  For most of these imported photos, Aperture now shows me stacks containing the "iPhoto Original" and "iPhoto Edited" pictures -- even in cases where the "edit" is as trivial as automatically rotating a picture that the camera flagged as being in portrait instead of landscape.  No worries so far.
I assumed that the "iPhoto Original" was treated as an Aperture master image, and any "iPhoto Edited" copies were stored as versions in Aperture.  I just had Aperture relocate the masters from this project though, and was quite surprised to see files being written to disk for both the "iPhoto Original" and "iPhoto Edited" pictures.  The sizes of the files were roughly the same, which makes me think that my understanding must have been flawed.  Is it the case that Aperture treats "iPhoto Edited" photos as separate masters?  If so, does that mean that if I make additional edits in Aperture to an "iPhoto Edited" JPEG, Aperture will end up generating a third-generation JPEG to represent the result?  (The "iPhoto Original" being the first-generation JPEG, the "iPhoto Edited" version being a copy of that JPEG, and my Aperture-created version being a copy of a copy of the original JPEG.)
I'd appreciate it if someone could let me know how things actually work under the hood.
    Thanks,
    Brad

It's frustrating to learn that Aperture didn't import the edited iPhoto images as versions!
    Hello Brad,
I know, I wasn't happy with that either, but Aperture has no chance do that with older iPhoto libraries, short of reverse engineering. The older iPhoto versions simply did not store the edits in a non-destructive format like Aperture, just version and original pairs, and that is what Aperture will import. It's only the recent iPhoto versions that make it possible for Aperture to create master-version pairs.
When I imported my iPhoto Libraries I deleted the extra master files - depending on the edits I had done, I either kept the original or the edited version and made a backup of the iPhoto library, just in case I ever would need the second version. If you really want to invest into a newer version of iPhoto and import again, you could try to use the "Lift and Stamp tool" to copy the metadata tags you already applied to the images that you reimport to Aperture.

  • Where are the fonts!? What the...

    Hi everyone,
I've just received my shipment of Adobe CS4 Design Premium for Windows and immediately installed it on my new laptop. The school I attend works a lot with typefaces like Optima, Frutiger, Helvetica etc.
Here's my problem. Where are these fonts? I was told that they're standard on a Mac, but that Adobe CS4 introduces these specific fonts to Windows. Instead, I have the lame *** assortment of boring and frankly rather useless Windows fonts. I paid a lot of money for this product and I am already irritated because I need these fonts - and they're not here. Or are they? Nowhere on the web was this denied. I got the assurance that these fonts are included. Sounds like BS now...
If anyone can help me out, this would be great. And what would really be awesome is if someone can perhaps send me these fonts (for Windows) via email. Basically all the fonts that are standard on a MAC (Optima, Helvetica etc.) and were supposed to be included here.
That would really be great. [email protected]
    Thanks.
PS: The reason I won't switch over to a Mac is because all my programs are for Windows. Switching over to a Mac will be too costly and I can essentially do the same work on a Windows computer nowadays as a Mac.

If you buy fonts from Adobe, the standard license allows use on up to 20 computers (you can buy site licensing if you need more) and from the license:
14.7. Font Software. If the Software includes font software --
14.7.1 You may use the font software with the Software on Computers as described in Section 2 and output
the font software to any output device(s) connected to such Computer(s).
14.7.2 If the Permitted Number of Computers is twenty, you may download the font software to the
memory (hard disk or RAM) of two output devices connected to at least one of such Computers for the
purpose of having the font software remain resident in such output device, and of two additional such
output devices for every multiple of twenty represented by the Permitted Number of Computers.
14.7.3 You may take a copy of the font(s) you have used for a particular file to a commercial printer or
other service bureau, and such service bureau may use the font(s) to process your file, provided such
service bureau has a valid license to use that particular font software.
14.7.4 You may convert and install the font software into another format for use in other environments,
subject to the following conditions: A computer on which the converted font software is used or installed
will be considered as one of your Permitted Number of Computers. Use of the font software you have
converted will be pursuant to all the terms and conditions of this agreement. Such converted font software
may be used only for your own customary internal business or personal use and may not be distributed or
transferred for any purpose, except in accordance with Section 4.4 of this agreement.
14.7.5 You may embed copies of the font software into your electronic documents for the purpose of
printing and viewing the document. If the font software you are embedding is identified as "licensed for
editable embedding" on Adobe’s website at
http://www.adobe.com/type/browser/legal/embeddingeula.html, you may also embed copies of that font
software for the additional purpose of editing your electronic documents. No other embedding rights are
implied or permitted under this license.
This is actually pretty generous. The standard license from Linotype limits you to 5 workstations, but allows you to transfer the font for output at the printer provided thay don't need to do any editing, in which case they need their own license. Embedding in PDF is also permitted. Modification of the font (including conversion), on the other hand, is completely prohibited. Other foundries and distributors will have their own licensing restictions/requirements, and your license for the same font might vary depending upon where you purchase it. Some licenses prohibit commercial use (this is true of most so-called "free" fonts) unless you upgrade to a more expensive commercial license, making them utterly useless to a professional designer. In short, you need to read the agreement to find out what is and isn't allowed.

  • Where are the big capacity MP3 playe

I have a 26 month old Zen xtra. It's 60Gb and it is completely full. I really, really want a MUCH big capacity player. At least double. But where are they? I know there are 2.5" hard dri'ves that would do the job, but no one is putting them in MP3 players. At best they are going in video players, with lousy battery life and unecessarily large screens for music replay.
So a plea to Creative - I want an MP3 player with serious capacity. It can be big, it can be ugly, it can have clumsy ergonomics (it wouldn't be Creative without these loveable attributes) but it's got to have adequate battery life and use a database to manage files (none of this "drag and drop" file stuff that is useless above ~000 files). And above all it should cope with at least 20,000 files.
    I got the cash waiting!

Creative's not gonna put out some big, ugly player with a 2.5", you may want to look at another brand. I know Wolverine has some big ugly players with 2.5" hard dri'ves, they go up to 20GB in capacity, you may want to look into that. I have over 70GB of music, so a 60GB Vision:M would be nice, don't know if Creative's gonna do that thugh.Message Edited by HHS on 04-06-2006 03: PM

  • Where are the HP drivers?

    Hi,
Apple itself mentiones HP drivers for e.g. the HP DeskJet 6127, they say Version 3.3.1, besides the Gutenprint 5.1.3 drivers. (http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=306684)
Where are these HP drivers? I cannot find them, even after installation of all drivers from the Leopard DVD.
    Matthew

    Hi Matthew
    Yes, I know... and?
Thanks for your reply but if I try to install my printer (you guessed: a HP DeskJet 6127 , only the Gutenprint drivers are offered. And even if I select one of the *.plugins or *.drivers, nothing happens...
Ugly graphics and no duplex printing - far behind the printing capabilities I had under Tiger...
    Where is the improvement?

  • HP Officejet Pro 8600 Wireless - Where are the printing shortcuts?????

HP Officejet Pro 8600 Wireless Printer
    Windows 7
    Where are the printing shortcuts?????
I just replaced a canon printer that died that had the concept of PROFILES, so that I could setup a PROFILE for each type of printing, i.e. 4X6 photos/documents/5X7 photos.  So it was easy for our family to print, they would pick each setting.
Now with latest driver for 8600 there are NO way to save a set of settings for a printer.   I have seen some old discussions on this but I just can't believe HP doesn't have this type of functionality in their drivers.  I don't need the ePrint and all the other bogus stuff installed with the 8600 driver, but I DO NEED the ability to save different sets of printing options so I don't have to remember, borderless or not, landscape or not, etc and keep wasting photo paper/ink/regular paper with incorrect options.
Here is another posting with similar points -> Customers are NOT getting full print functionality.  We don't care about the extra software, it is minimal.  Full functionality includes the ability to create profiles for different printing situations so that the user can easily choose that profile (and therefore all the myriad settings for that profile).  What HP has done is give us ONE profile, essentially, and every time you want to do something different, you have to change that ONE profile.  How is that helping?
As I said, if I want to switch from a normal printing job (e-mail, web page, etc.) which uses my ONE setting, and then want to print a 4x6 photo, I have to remember to change at least 6 different settings.  With the shortcut, I would select my "borderless photo" shortcut, and it would automatically switch paper trays, size, color, quality, you name it.  Now you force me to change that each and every time.
If someone can explain why this is considered full functionality I would be extremely grateful.

    Hello,
I am sorry you are having trouble with your print experience.
I am going to make some assumptions here, which could be wrong in your case, but might help others.  Since you mention printing from Windows7 and ePrint in the same thread, can I assume you are trying to print using the HP ePrint driver for windows (www.hp.com/go/eprintsoftware) ?  The ePrint driver also comes preinstalled on all HP laptops and pcs now, so maybe you made a recent pc purchase and therefore have the ePrint driver installed?
The goal of the ePrint windows driver currently has a lot less to do with providing the hundreds of print features and settings that the full featured, product specific print drivers provide.  The goal is to enable customers to be able to print to any recent or new HP printer through a number of different connection paths from a single installed print driver / print queue.  Once the ePrint driver is installed, printing with that driver will dynamically find direct network printers, cloud enabled printers, public print locations, direct wireless printers, etc., and create the correct print format depending on the print path taken.  If the printer is ePrint cloud enabled and has a good internet connection, the printer and the pc do not have to be in the same location.  For example, you can print from home to your printer at work.  You can send photos of the kids to your mom's printer in another state, etc.  The ePrint solution is also good for the traveling worker who just wants to send the occasional print job to the nearest network or wireless direct printer without having to find and install another print driver for each new printer.  One driver, one queue and you can print to any recent or new HP printer.
The ePrint driver has a few important print settings that customers may want to use (copies, duplex, grayscale, etc).  More may be added over time depending on demand.
BTW, because the ePrint driver does not have a ton of print settings to handle, the rendering of print jobs is as simple and efficient as possible and should not bog down your pc.
If you want all the bells and whistles in the print driver experience and just want to print to a single printer you can download and install the product specific print driver from hp.com
I hope that helps out a few people who may be wondering what the purpose of ePrint is!!
    Good luck.
I am an HP employee, but these are my own thoughts and suggestions

  • BPM 11g Process Administrator functions: Where are they now??

    Good morning,
I've got some decent ALBPM6.0.5 experience, and now I've just started in a new project that uses BPM 11g. I've attended to an Oracle "Hands On" so I know 11g is VERY different from 10g/ALBPM.
My main problem is that I cannot find anywhere where are Roles and Users managed in the server. From where do I administer Roles, Users, Groups, Organizational Units. All that used to be in the Process Administrator. How is that done now? I swear I've gone through all the documentation at http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E14571_01/soa.htm and still found nothing :(
Also, is now using an LDAP mandatory? Or can something like ALBPM Directory still be used??
    Thanks in advance.

User/Role management is now done through the workspace itself. You must login as an administrative user (like weblogic) and you will see an Admin link in the upper right of the workspace.
Authentication and user lookup is now handled directly by Weblogic - so you setup authentication Providers in the WLS security realm through the admin console.
By default Weblogic is configured to use an internal LDAP that stores local users (this is where the "weblogic" user itself is defined).
    General steps are provided here:

  • Where are the pictures found in the Adobe Photoshop 10 organizer?

Nov. 29, I had my computer repaired from a trojan, & I figured out that everything i've done since Sept. 13th was gone because when the computer guy was fixing it, he tried to put in the new MicroSD card reader, but he had to put an old one back in (from Sept.) as the new one had wrong connections.
Then, when he started the PC he only had the C drive (& my documents and pictures are on the A drive). He turned it off and realized he accidentally disconnected one of the mirror hard drives for Drive A. He had to turn it off and open it again and reconnect the cable that was disconnected.
During that moment perhaps a line in the drive had become corrupted. So, I restored through Carbonite, hoping I'd get back almost everything (or at least whatever was done being backed up). However, I lost quite a few pictures.
Tuesday, however, I noticed that the pictures I lost were imported into the organizer for Adobe Photoshop 10, which is on the C drive, so I'm hoping the pictures are still there, even if they are thumbnails (I assume they would be)! But where are the pictures found in the Adobe Photoshop 10 organizer? I assume in a folder somewhere? Am I able to copy them? (A low quality image, is better than no image!)

The thumbnail cache is separate and lives in the system files.
You could try a new catalog - it doesn’t involve any duplication.
    Click: File >> Catalog
    Click the New button
Give your catalog a name e.g. My Catalog2 (or whatever you prefer)
Check the box Import Free Music - that will bring in the Adobe MP3 tracks used in slideshows
    Then click OK
When the new blank catalog opens click: File >> Get Photos and Videos >> From Files & Folders
Navigate to your root folder (normally Pictures or My Pictures or wherever you put your photos) then press Ctrl+A to select all sub folders or make sure the checkbox is marked.
    Click Open or Get Media
Wait for Elements to complete the import, accept all keyword suggestions (select all) and then wait for thumbnails to finish generating.
N.B. You may not get all the metadata (keywords etc) but in view of the problems you have had it may be your best hope.
