If you download a rented movie on your computer: You can transfer it to a device such as your Apple TV (1st generation), iPhone, iPad, or iPod if it’s a standard-definition film (movies in HD can only be watched on your computer, iPad, iPhone 4 or later, iPod touch (4th generation or later), or Apple TV). Once you move the movie from your computer to a device, the movie will disappear from your computer's iTunes library. You can move the movie between devices as many times as you wish during the rental period, but the movie can only exist on one device at a time.
If you download a rented movie on your iPhone 4 or later, iPad, iPod touch (4th generation or later), or Apple TV: It is not transferable to any other device or computer.

If you update to iOS 4.3.3 you should then see it in the App Store app. If you have iTunes 10.3 on your computer you can also do it there. Otherwise I think that you'll have to go through your purchase history on your account in iTunes on your computer.

When you rent a movie from iTunes on your computer, then you can play it on your computer or sync it to your iPhone or iPad. For your Apple TV, you will need to find it by using Home Sharing and not looking for it in the Movies section. If you go to the Computers section on the Home Screen and follow the onscreen instructions to set it up, then you should be able to find the rental and watch it on your Apple TV. Your downloaded and synced films and tv shows should in Videos, and music, audiobooks and audio podcasts in the Musisc app

Movies rented on Apple TV aren't transferable to another device. If its taking awhile to load then its an issue with your network.
What is your speed via speedtest.net
1080p requires 8mbps
720p needs 6mbps
You can change to SD in settings
Interference can cause issues, verify via istumbler or netstumbler
Should be using ISPs DNS (settings - network - DNS should be automatic)

I can't find the movies I rented yesterday. Are you allowed to watch them more than once? I was under the assumption that you can watch as many times as you want in the 48 hours time period.

It all depends on where you rented the movie. If you rented the movie in iTunes and wanted to see it on your Apple TV, make sure that you have Home Sharing turned on and then you would need to navigate Computers and select your iTunes library and then navigate to your rental for playback.
